Ethics panel clears 7 on earmarks (Corruption Rules DC)

Ethics panel clears 7 on earmarks In a 305-page report, the ethics committee declared that lawmakers are free to raise campaign money from the very companies they are benefiting so long as the deciding factors in granting those "earmarks" are "criteria independent" of the contributions. The report served as a blunt rejection of ethics watchdogs and a different group of congressional investigators, who have contended that in some instances the connection between donations and earmarks was so close that it had to be inappropriate. "Simply because a member sponsors an earmark for an entity that also happens to be a campaign contributor does not, on these two facts ...

Officials puzzle over millions of dollars leaving Afghanistan by plane for Dubai KABUL -- A blizzard of bank notes is flying out of Afghanistan -- often in full view of customs officers at the Kabul airport -- as part of a cash exodus that is confounding U.S. officials and raising concerns about the money's origin. The cash, estimated to total well over $1 billion a year, flows mostly to the Persian Gulf emirate of Dubai, where many wealthy Afghans now park their families and funds, according to U.S. and Afghan officials. So long as departing cash is declared at the airport here, its transfer is legal. But at a time when the United States and its allies are spending billions of ...

John McCain´s Daughter: Tea Party Movement is Racist On ABC´s "The View," John McCain´s daughter Meghan criticized Tom Tancredo´s speech to the Tea Party convention (SN reported), in which the former Republican representative called for a "civics literacy test" as a qualification to vote. Tancredo said people "who could not spell the word vote or say it in English" elected President Obama, a "committed socialist ideologue." McCain said Tancredo´s statements were evidence of "innate racism" in the Tea Party movement. "It´s innate racism, and I think it´s why young people are turned off by ...

Ex-NYPD Top Cop Bernard Kerik Sentenced To Four Years In Federal Prison

Disgraced ex-Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik, the first top cop in city history to plead guilty to a crime, was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison. The stiff sentence for the former 9/11 hero - above the federal guidelines for his crimes - was handed down in White Plains by Federal Judge Stephen Robinson. The judge ripped Kerik, the head of the NYPD when the World Trade Center was attacked by terrorists, for abusing his national notoriety. "The fact that Mr. Kerik would use that event (9/11) for personal gain and aggrandizement is a dark place in the soul for me," Robinson said. The suggested range for Kerik was 27 to 33 months, although Robinson had warned him that ...

Obama Making Plans to Use Executive Power By PETER BAKER WASHINGTON — With much of his legislative agenda stalled in Congress, President Obama and his team are preparing an array of actions using his executive power to advance energy, environmental, fiscal and other domestic policy priorities. Mr. Obama has not given up hope of progress on Capitol Hill, aides said, and has scheduled a session with Republican leaders on health care later this month. But in the aftermath of a special election in Massachusetts that cost Democrats unilateral control of the Senate, the White House is getting ready to act on its own in the face of partisan gridlock heading into the midterm campaign. ...

A WARNING TO THE TEA PARTY NATION (Chuck Baldwin) By Chuck Baldwin, February 12, 2010 NewsWithViews.com As far as grassroots activism goes, the surge in Tea Parties across America is one of the more encouraging developments to recently take place. It reminds me of the "Conservative Revolution" of 1994, when the GOP reclaimed both the US Senate and House of Representatives. At that time, it had been over 40 years since the Republican Party controlled both the US House and Senate. And, between the two, the House victories were the most significant. Spurred mostly by the election of Bill Clinton in 1992, a host of young, energetic freshman Republicans marched into Washington, ...

Americans Reject Keynesian Economics

Richard Nixon once said, “We’re all Keynesians now.” But that was a long time ago, and it’s certainly not the case anymore (if it ever was). While influential 20th Century economist John Maynard Keynes would say it’s best to increase deficit spending in tough economic times, only 11% of American adults agree and think the nation needs to increase its deficit spending at this time. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 70% disagree and say it would be better to cut the deficit. In fact, 59% think Keynes had it backwards and that increasing the deficit at this time would hurt the economy rather than help. To help the economy, most Americans ...

American Grand Jury has archived extensive records over the past year which we used in our jury hearings. We now believe beyond a reasonable doubt that Obama is not a “natural born” citizen and it is even possible that he may be an illegal alien. We also have records showing the Democratic National Convention fraudulently declared Obama constitutionally eligible while never vetting the “natural born” requirement with the electorate. Now, new evidence has come to light whereby Dr. James Manning has declared that Obama never attended Columbia University [New York]. Dr. Manning has hired a team of investigators to comb over every bit of available evidence to validate his ...

It’s time to call it what it is and blame the real crooks that are responsible for the deepening recession and rising unemployment rate. “Almost two-thirds of all bad mortgages in our financial system were bought by government agencies or required by government regulations. When the crisis first arose, the left's explanation was that it was caused by corporate greed, primarily on Wall Street, and by deregulation of the financial system during the Bush administration. The implicit charge was that the financial system was flawed and required broader regulation to keep it out of trouble. As it became clear that there was no financial deregulation during the Bush administration ...

PHOENIX (AP) — A federal judge will decide whether to impose sanctions against the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office for its acknowledged destruction of police records in a lawsuit that accuses deputies of racially profiled countless Hispanics in immigration sweeps. U.S. District Judge Murray Snow heard arguments Thursday over whether the law enforcement agency should be punished for throwing away and shredding officers' records of traffic stops and for not handing over all its e-mails about the sweeps. Since early 2008, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has run 13 immigration and crimes sweeps consisting of deputies and posse volunteers who flood an area of a city — in ...

Jake Tapper is a little confused, and so am I. The White House supposedly abandoned the “saved or created” jobs metric because of its fantasy elements and prefers now to count jobs “funded” through Porkulus, an order that came from one of the chief economists in the White House, Peter Orszag. So why did Obama claim to a Nashua, New Hampshire audience on Tuesday that he had “saved or created” two million jobs? “Now, if you hear some of the critics, they’ll say, well, the Recovery Act, I don’t know if that’s really worked, because we still have high unemployment,” the president said. “But what they fail to understand is that every ...

The Great Tea Party Rip-Off Even given the low bar set by America’s bogus conversations about race, the short-lived Harry Reid fracas was a most peculiar nonevent. For all the hyperventilation in cable news land, this supposed racial brawl didn’t seem to generate any controversy whatsoever in what is known as the real world. Eugene Robinson, the liberal black columnist at The Washington Post, wrote that he was “neither shocked nor outraged” at Reid’s less-than-articulate observation that Barack Obama benefited politically from being “light-skinned” and for lacking a “Negro dialect unless he wanted to have one.” Besides, Robinson said, ...

WASHINGTON -- President Obama is to unveil tomorrow a $3.8 trillion budget proposal -- a 6 percent increase over last year, according to a published report. The proposal will include $25 billion for struggling states and provide funding increases for programs at the Department of Energy, the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation and the Census Bureau. It will also provide more funds for the military, but spending at NASA, the Army Corps of Engineers and certain other agencies will be kept at $447 billion annually through 2013. That will lead to a savings of $10 billion in the coming fiscal year.

The WH's defense of Obama's remarks on a recent Supreme Court ruling doesn't cut it for a president, let alone someone who professes to be a Constitutional scholar. It amounts to his saying, well, 80% of the law was bad, but since one element of it was good it should have withstood the Court's test. Rubbish. Good law gets made over time, especially with the legislative bunch we have today. The Court's ruling upheld the First Amendment and nothing they ruled prevents Congress from going back to fix any loophole. By demagoging the issue, Obama failed to pass any relevant test for his statesmanship, presidential behavior, and alleged Constitutional scholarship. I say ...

Dems pin CBO numbers on Bush and GOP By Michael O'Brien - 01/26/10 01:09 PM ET Democrats pinned a new budget report Tuesday showing high deficits and a "muted" economic recovery on GOP control of the White House and Congress over the past decade. House Democratic leaders said a report by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) showing a $1.35 trillion deficit in 2010 was the result of policies put in place by President George W. She even stands by if for a second when she’s called on it. Maybe Sox fans don’t vote. Hey, Schilling didn’t help John McCain much.
