Because human affairs are complex, we may be inclined to think that such a rudimentary investigative principle is of limited practical utility, but in recent years I have found it infallible. The world is full of would be activists—people who are fervently interested in promoting a program. Many of these programs are eccentric at best, and as long as no money is available to fund them, they will remain in obscurity. Back in December, a county treasurer buddy of mine informed me of a “dead period” when campaign donors cannot give to state legislators since they’re about to go into session. It’d therefore be more likely that they could give to candidates for local office. If the donors have business before the legislature (or a local body) though, how proper is it that they give at all? Sam Bankman-Fried, infamous for his role in the collapse of FTX that caused huge losses for cryptocurrency investors, already faced numerous fraud and conspiracy charges for stealing from customers. Now federal prosecutors in New York have indicted Bankman-Fried for making unlawful political donations. The alleged scheme involved “siphon[ing] off FTX’s customer funds and deploy[ing] them for political causes” using shell donors. The FBI discovered an additional classified document at former Vice President Mike Pence's Indiana home Friday during a voluntary five-hour search of the house, a Pence adviser said in a statement. The adviser, Devin O'Malley, said "the Department of Justice completed a thorough and unrestricted search of five hours and removed one document with classified markings and six additional pages without such markings that were not discovered in the initial review by the vice president’s counsel.”

Lawyers for former President Donald Trump have in recent months voluntarily turned over to federal investigators additional papers marked as classified as well as a laptop belonging to a Trump aide, a person familiar with the situation said Friday night. The legal team also provided an empty folder with classified markings, according to the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press to discuss an ongoing investigation. Vera Liddell, former director of food services at Harvey School District 152 in Illinois, has been charged with financial crimes and theft. The Cook County State's Attorney's office said Liddell embezzled some $1.5 million in chicken wings from the school system. Liddell placed orders for the food from July 2020 to February 2022 through the school's food vendor. And she picked it up in a school van. But the orders weren't authorized.
