The GOP-led House voted today to block funding to implement the nation's health care law. The action came on several amendments to a must-pass spending bill that would pay for government operations from March through September. Specifically, the House voted to prohibit any funds be used by the Internal Revenue Service to carry out the law's mandate that Americans buy health insurance. The individual mandate, one of the law's key tenets, has been struck down by federal courts. The House also adopted an amendment by Rep. Denny Rehberg, R-Mont., to bar the Labor and Health and Human Services Departments from spending any money for the rest of fiscal year 2011 on the health care ...

There used to be a saying: No one makes a name for himself without giving something up As a youngster, I was awed by people who made it to the top by creating and innovating corporations, technologies, or simply establishing themselves through sports, music, entertainment, etc. thus becoming millionaires. Now as I have grown older, I realize how illusory this paradigm really is. I came to the conclusion that if you want to reach the top, you have to give up your soul. Take Mark Zuckerberg for example. He is one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the last decade. Having made a fortune through his Facebook empire, he reaches more ...
FBI Pushes for Surveillance Backdoors in Web 2.0 Tools Post Date: 2011-02-18 07:16:54 by A K A Stone

The FBI pushed Thursday for more built-in backdoors for online communication, but beat a hasty retreat from its earlier proposal to require providers of encrypted communications services to include a backdoor for law enforcement wiretaps. FBI general counsel Valerie Caproni told Congress that new ways of communicating online could cause problems for law enforcement officials, but categorically stated that the bureau is no longer pushing to force companies like RIM, which offers encrypted e-mail for business and government customers, to engineer holes in their systems so the FBI can see the plaintext of a communication upon court order. Addressing the Going Dark problem does not ...
Union Fascism on Full Display Post Date: 2011-02-18 06:33:40 by Happy Quanzaa

The hypocrisy of the American left is on full display in the heart of America, as the teachers union in Wisconsin continues to show how it will use any tactic, no matter how reprehensible, to try and get its way. Threats, intimidation, violent imagery and inflammatory rhetoric all of the sorts of tactics that the left and the mainstream media routinely accuse conservatives of using are on full display in Madison. But, rather than condemning such behavior, left wing champions from Barack Obama to Michael Moore are falling over themselves to show solidarity with the teachers union. Protesters carried signs likening Wisconsin governor Scott Walker to Adolf Hitler ...
Black Murderer at Heart Democrat – “Abortion Better Than a Life Eating Ramen Noodles” Post Date: 2011-02-18 00:33:58 by A K A Stone

Most macabre abortion defense of the night so far: Just a little while ago on the floor, Wisconsin Democrat Rep. Gwen Moore argued that abortion was better for unplanned babies than a life eating Ramen noodles or mayonnaise sandwiches. Wow
..just wow. What a perfect illustration of the liberal mindset, and it comes from one of the most ignorant Democrats in the house. I mean Im pretty sure many of us had to eat Ramen in our younger days due to finances. Guess its a good thing our mothers didnt abort us worrying about that fact eh? Geez
.. It gets better: Jill Stanek notes another jaw-dropper from Democrat Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee: This ...

A health-care crime sweep Thursday morning netted 111 defendants on charges related to Medicare fraud, in what Attorney General Eric Holder called the largest such takedown in U.S. history. The defendantscharged in nine metropolitan areas including Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Chicago and Miamiwere allegedly involved in more than 40 schemes, almost all of which were unrelated to one another, officials said. Altogether, the schemes attempted to defraud the government of more than $225 million, according to Mr. Holder. Several of the cases appear to involve doctors or other health-care practitioners acting alone or with very few alleged co-conspirators. One of these, Brooklyn physical ...
Tea Party insurgents clash with RINO establishment over defense Post Date: 2011-02-17 15:39:07 by Happy Quanzaa

The tension between the Republican establishment and the Tea Party insurgents erupted on the House floor for the first time Wednesday when 110 GOP representatives -- mostly freshmen and some longtime conservative gadflies -- broke from their leadership and most of their caucus in order to kill a defense contract. The vote highlighted an establishment-versus-Tea Party split that was glaring during the campaign season, and brought to the fore the uncomfortable question of defense spending. The amendment, killing the contract for a backup engine for the F-35 fighter, passed 233-198 Wednesday, but 130 of the 240 voting Republicans opposed the cut, including House Speaker John Boehner and ...

Hank Morris sentenced to 1 1/3 to 4 years for role in pension fund scandal, family causes scene inside Manhattan courtroom As his family openly wept inside a Manhattan courtroom, disgraced Democratic political consultant Hank Morris was sentenced this morning to 1 1/3 to four years behind bars for his role in an influence-peddling scandal involving the state's pension fund. "I love you. I love everybody. I'll see you soon," Morris shouted to his wife and family before he was hauled off in handcuffs. Morris, 57, had pleaded guilty last year, but that didn't stop his lawyer William Schwartz from asking the judge if the one-time Alan Hevesi consultant could start his ...

In the fine book I.O.U.S.A. former Comptroller General David Walker said, [The] fourth and most serious of all is a leadership deficit. The material I reviewed underscores Walkers observation. Im a huge Paul Ryan fan. Im impressed with his handle on our budget. I give him a tremendous amount of credit for addressing our dismal fiscal situation head on. I commend him for making it the center of his work. This is something most politicians refuse to even mention, let alone address in public. Congressman Ryan is working to solve it. As much as I like, admire and respect Representative Ryan - I have to state: He epitomizes Walkers illustration of ...
Obama's Economists Won’t Testify on Stimulus Post Date: 2011-02-16 16:13:47 by Happy Quanzaa

The Obama White House wont be sending a witness to defend the economic-stimulus package before a House Oversight Committee panel Wednesday. The committee is holding a hearing on the impact of the stimulus package, which President Barack Obama signed almost two years ago. Testimony will come from a lineup of conservative economists, plus Josh Bivens of the left-leaning Economic Policy Institute, who was picked by committee Democrats. Rep. Jim Jordan (R., Ohio), who is running the hearing, had asked Jared Bernstein and Christina Romer, who played major roles in preparing the package to testify or suggest another witness to represent the White House. Both declined. Officials ...

One of the agents is dead, the other is clinging to life in a hospital in Mexico City, the source says. They [the two agents] were targeted, the law enforcer adds. They [the assailants] knew they were agents. The law enforcement source who spoke with Narco News says one of the ...

Supreme Leader wants 5100 more Jackbooted Tax Thugs Post Date: 2011-02-16 07:43:30 by Happy Quanzaa

5,100 More IRS AgentsThe White House plan to close the mythical "tax gap." President Obama's fiscal 2012 budget doesn't cut much of anything (see above), and certainly not the Internal Revenue Service. The White House is requesting that the most beloved of all government agencies get an additional 5,100 agents next year, no doubt to wring further tax revenue from Americans. The White House wants to give the IRS a 9.4% raise in fiscal 2012, to $13.28 billion. Reuters reports this would allow for a roughly 5% increase in agency manpower to 100,537, including $460 million more for tax enforcement than in 2010. We doubt this is the kind of fiscal discipline that voters had ...
Obama Budget Doubles National Debt to $26.3 Trillion in 10 Years Post Date: 2011-02-15 16:40:25 by Happy Quanzaa

(CNSNews.com) If the federal budget released by President Barack Obama today is implemented, it will double the national debt over the next 10 years. The current national debt is $13.56 trillion (end of FY 2010). By the end of 2021, that debt would rise to $26.3 trillion under the White House budget. The figures reflect the effects of Obamas fiscal year 2012 budget priorities, particularly a federal deficit that never falls below $500 billion in any year between 2010 and 2021. The national debt both debt held by the public and debt held by government accounts (the Social Security trust fund chief among them) was $13.56 trillion on Sept. 30. 2010, the ...
Obama's Homeland Security TSA Government Thugs Stealing From Passengers During Pat-Downs Post Date: 2011-02-15 16:34:55 by Happy Quanzaa

Remember, they are there to make you safer. A report: A TSA supervisor stole money from passengers who went through his security checkpoint and accepted bribes and kickbacks from a colleague. Michael Arato, a supervisor at Newark Liberty Airport, admitted on Monday that he regularly took money from passengers during security screenings and deliberately targeted foreigners who could not speak much English. The 41-year-old, from Ewing, admitted in federal court that he permitted a worker he supervised to steal $10,000 to $30,000 in cash from travellers bags over a 13-month period

Barack Obama’s Budget For 2012: A Complete And Total Joke Post Date: 2011-02-15 16:15:16 by Capitalist Eric

Is Barack Obama trying to play a joke on all of us? The budget that the Obama administration has submitted for fiscal 2012 is so out of touch with reality that it may as well be a budget for "Narnia", "Fantasy Island", "Atlantis" or some other mythical land. You can view the hard numbers for Barack Obama's 2012 budget right here. Obama's budget assumes that the U.S. will experience economic growth of over 5 percent for most of the coming decade. That is so far-fetched that "optimistic" is not the right word for it. It also assumes that U.S. government income (primarily made up of taxes on all of us) will more than double over the next ten ...

And the little screaming fact that sounds through all history: repression works only to strengthen and knit the repressed. - John Steinbeck - Grapes of Wrath John Steinbeck wrote his masterpiece The Grapes of Wrath at the age of 37 in 1939, at the tail end of the Great Depression. U.S. homeland security budget gets small budget boost (+800M to 43.8 Billion) Post Date: 2011-02-14 15:21:22 by Hondo68

WASHINGTON Feb 14 (Reuters) - The Obama administration on Monday proposed a nearly 2 percent increase in spending on U.S. homeland security for 2012, one the few areas of the budget that will likely see a boost as the White House battles a ballooning deficit. Its 2012 budget proposal requests $43.8 billion for homeland security across the entire federal government, excluding the Defense Department, up $800 million from 2011. The request for the increase comes as militant groups like the al Qaeda wing based in Yemen have increased their efforts to strike the United States, including plots to blow up bombs on airplanes or in major city centers. The Department of Homeland Security alone would ...

WASHINGTONThe White House projected Monday that the federal deficit would spike to $1.65 trillion in the current fiscal year, the largest dollar amount ever, adding pressure on Democrats and Republicans to tackle growing levels of debt. The projected deficit for 2011 is fueled in part by a tax-cut extension that President Barack Obama and Republican lawmakers brokered in December, two senior administration officials said. It would equal 10.9% of gross domestic product, the largest deficit as a share of the economy since World War II. The new estimate is part of Mr. Obama's proposed budget for fiscal year 2012, which becomes public Monday morning. Mr. Obama is proposing $3.73 ...

Our immense economic machinery was the envy of the rest of the globe and it provided the foundation for the largest and most vibrant middle class in the history of the world. But now the once great U.S. economic machine is being dismantled piece by piece. The U.S. economy is being gutted, neutered, defanged, declawed and deindustrialized and very few of our leaders even seem to care. It was the United States that once showed the rest of the world how to mass produce televisions and automobiles and airplanes and computers, but now our industrial base is being ripped to shreds. Ever since the TSA started putting back-scatter devices into use at selected airports last fall, Ive been waiting to have the chance to opt out and register a one-woman protest against the machines. (Jeff Goldberg doesnt get to have all the fun.) However, most of my recent air travel has been with a tiny traveling companion, and Ive been pleasantly surprised that at six different airports, TSA agents have directed us away from the back-scatter devices and through metal detectors, simply because I had a three-month-old baby in my arms. (I also learned that the Irish-Catholic TSA ...

We want to be positive about all this spending, monetary expansion and economic malaise - we really do. But when we read expert analysis from the likes of David Galland of Casey Research, we really cant help but be pessimistic and alarmed about the survivability of the world as we know it: Via The Daily Crux If the government had kept its role limited and its finances in good shape, people might not love it, but theyd respect it â and, more to the point, they wouldnt hate it. However, by expanding as it has, the government has drained its treasury. Then, politically unable and unwilling to stop its spending, it kept going â racking up ...
