Denver Police Chief Recommends Cop Fired For BeatingTwo Officers Seen On Camera Beating Michael DeHerrera In 2009 DENVER -- Denver Police Chief Gerald Whitman has recommended the firing of an officer accused in a beating caught on video, infuriating members of the police union. The video was first aired by CALL7 Investigator Tony Kovaleski. Independent Monitor Richard Rosenthal recommended that the officers be fired, but Denver's then-Manager of Safety Ron Perea, only disciplined the officers for filing an inaccurate police report about the April 4, 2009, incident. Last year, the Denver Police Department asked that the two officers involved to be suspended, however, according to ...

The Dayton Police Department is lowering its testing standards for recruits. Post Date: 2011-03-12 20:16:33 by CZ82

It's a move required by the U.S. Department of Justice after it says not enough African-Americans passed the exam. Dayton is in desperate need of officers to replace dozens of retirees. The hiring process was postponed for months because the D.O.J. rejected the original scores provided by the Dayton Civil Service Board, which administers the test. Under the previous requirements, candidates had to get a 66% on part one of the exam and a 72% on part two. The D.O.J. approved new scoring policy only requires potential police officers to get a 58% and a 63%. That's the equivalent of an F and a D. It becomes a safety issue for the people of our ...

:49pm ET Democratic Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill billed taxpayers approximately $1,220 for an airplane trip to a Democratic political event, her spokesperson confirmed CBS News. Earlier this week, McCaskill wrote a check for more than $88,000 to the Treasury Department, after reports surfaced that she had, over the course of four years, billed to taxpayers $76,000 for 89 flights on a charter plane she co-owns with her husband and other investors. A spokesperson for the congresswoman, who has throughout her Senate career made a point of pushing for increased government oversight into congressional expenditures of taxpayer dollars, insisted that the flights did not violate any laws or ...

Democrat Thuggery in Its Worst Form Post Date: 2011-03-11 16:43:17 by Happy Quanzaa

After Democratic state senators fled the state to block a fair vote, and after union members took over the capitol building, and after Republican senators received death threats, Wisconsin state Sen. Robert Jauch, D-Poplar, labeled Republican passage of a bill to reduce public employee collective bargaining power "political thuggery in its worst form." And the left wonders why so much of America doesn't take it seriously. At 9:18 Wednesday night, an e-mail was sent to Republican state senators in Wisconsin. Its first paragraph reads: Please put your things in order because you will be killed and your familes [sic] will also be killed due to your actions in the last 8 weeks. ...

When three-fourths of the Boston police department went on strike in 1919, leading to broken shop windows and looting, then-Massachusetts Gov. Calvin Coolidge called out the state militia and broke the strike. Coolidge declared, "There is no right to strike against the public safety by anybody, anywhere, any time." His courage propelled him to the vice presidency and eventually to the presidency. Fast forward to Aug. 3, 1981, when the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization (PATCO) called a strike over better working conditions, better pay and a 32-hour workweek. In doing so, the union violated a law that banned strikes by government unions. President Reagan declared ...

CHARLOTTESVILLE The Virginia Supreme Court has agreed to hear a case involving Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli's attempt to obtain documents related to a climate-change researcher. Cuccinelli is investigating whether former University of Virginia researcher Michael Mann defrauded state taxpayers by using manipulated data to obtain government grants. The university has fought Cuccinelli's demand for the records. Cuccinelli is appealing a judge's ruling last August that said he wasn't specific enough about how Mann might have broken the law. The judge also said Cuccinelli lacks authority to investigate federal grants. Both sides told The Daily Progress that they are ...

On Wednesday night, Obama will continue that tradition while watching the Bulls-Bobcats game at a viewing party at the White House. And this is just the latest event Obama is dedicating to his Chicago teams. At 2 p.m. Friday at the White House, Obama will honor the Blackhawks for their 2009-2010 Stanley Cup victory. The president invited the team to Washington, D.C., for a ceremony and a children's street hockey clinic on the South Lawn. Obama's allegiances seem clear. Remember the 2009 ...

U.S. Economic Death Spiral Into the Second Great Depression Post Date: 2011-03-08 18:36:37 by Capitalist Eric

Wracked up by both parties over many decades our debt has evolved into a yearly deficit that can no longer be serviced with tax revenue and borrowing. To avoid default Ben Bernanke chose to monetize the un-payable portion of our deficit. Each month about 100 billion dollars are created out of thin air to cover our governments bills. This has set forth an unstoppable, self reinforcing, negative-feedback-loop whereby: Debt monetization (printing money out of thin air to cover the portion of governments spending not satisfied by tax revenue and borrowing) reduces the value of the dollar. The debt monetization triggers dollars to flow out of bonds and into commodities. This increases ...

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Virginia Republican, ripped National Public Radio (NPR) on Tuesday after NPR foundations nonprofit president Ron Schiller was caught on video saying the radio network and most of its member stations would survive without federal funding. As we continue to identify ways to cut spending and save valuable resources, this disturbing video makes clear that taxpayer dollars should no longer be appropriated to NPR, Cantor said in an e-mail to TheDC. Not only have top public broadcasting executives finally admitted that they do not need taxpayer dollars to survive, it is also clear that without federal funds, public broadcasting stations ...

Government Motors Folly: By The Numbers~unlikely GM will ever pay back the taxpayers Post Date: 2011-03-07 18:21:19 by Happy Quanzaa

News coverage of Government Motors over the past few weeks has painted an increasingly glowing picture, but heres a dose of reality: GM still has not repaid taxpayers for the bailout and its looking less and less like taxpayers will ever be made whole. Unlike much of the media, we actually spent a considerable amount of time looking behind the press releases to see what GMs numbers really say about the health of a company taxpayers now own. This week, we will be sharing with readers a more realistic picture of the companys health. The bottom line: The picture is far less rosy than GM would like you to believe. 1. Facing America's Shadow State (under the spell of dark propagandists) Post Date: 2011-03-07 15:05:18 by Hondo68

Supporters of President Barack Obama often say that he is a "deep" thinker, but, how deep a thinker is he when he has failed to look into the crimes and human rights violations that occurred under the Bush administration? Normally, deep thinkers look into the dark past of their society, not avoid it, because they know that you can't move forward without facing the past first. Dealing with the shadows can be a healing process if done right. Nations, like individuals, experience trauma and dark days, and covering them up only makes the problems worse.Obama decided to "look forward, not backward," a decision that was more than an error in judgment. It was an act of ...

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) refused Sunday to retreat from her characterization of the Obama administration as a "gangster government." The House Tea Party Caucus founder said, "I don't take back my statement on gangster government," a phrase she used at a tea party gathering in April. "I think that there have been actions that have been taken by this government that I think are corrupt," she said during her appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press." She hammered at the administration Sunday for $105 billion included in last year's health care overhaul law for its implementation, regardless of the questions put to her. Bachmann called on ...
Obama's 'starve America first' energy policy creates a backlash Post Date: 2011-03-06 17:55:20 by Happy Quanzaa

"Energy is the capacity to do work." That simple truth from Physics 101 has everything to do with gas prices spiking at the pump as Moammar Gadhafi's war planes bomb Libya's rebel-held oil district and the whole Middle East seethes in unrest. With shaky foreign energy supplies threatening to deepen the worst recession since World War II, why doesn't America protect its capacity to do work by drilling for more oil and gas here at home? Simple truth from Politics 101: Big Green's extreme anti-energy ideology permeates the Obama administration. Dan Kish, senior vice president for policy at the D.C.-based Institute for Energy Research, told me, "The Obama ...

Homicide case involving Daley nephew closed without charges For the first time, the Chicago Police said Friday they know who hit David Koschman and knocked him to the ground in a drunken confrontation in the Rush Street area, leading to his death from a brain injury 11 days later but theyre not telling. They said they are closing Koschmans 2004 homicide case without asking the Cook County states attorneys office to charge anyone because they concluded the punch was thrown in self-defense. Police reports made public Friday black out the name of the man who detectives concluded threw the lone punch at Koschman. But the descriptions they provided and accounts ...

Economic despair reigns in America, as stagnation and mounting debt make our future look hopeless. Yet America is uniquely positioned to rebound and recover our economic preeminence. All that is necessary is a political decision to reverse our energy policy and stimulate domestic production of hydrocarbons. From that would flow a true economic stimulus that would mend many of our ills. The United States is again, for the second time in less than three years, being reminded of its absurd dependence of foreign sources of energy, most notably, oil. The upheavals in the Middle East have driven up the cost of a barrel of oil into triple digits as it was in 2008. The increasing demands of ...
