BAGHDAD, Iraq (Reuters) - Gunmen in Iraq dragged 24 people, mostly students, from vehicles and shot them dead, police said, as violence raged across the country on Sunday. Iraqi leaders appeared deadlocked on naming new interior and defense ministers seen as critical to restoring stability in a country bloodied by relentless insurgent and sectarian killings. "(They) dragged them one by one from their cars and executed them," said a police official. The victims included students on their way to write end of term exams, children and elderly men, said another senior police official in Diyala province, scene of frequent attacks by insurgents waging a campaign of bombings and ...

Man of La Mancha, Wisconsin by Bill Walker My last dose of The Virtue Of Selfishness having worn off (they only provide immunity for 20 years; don?t forget your booster), I agreed to review a documentary video. Without any payola. What the heck was in that Dove Bar? Oh yeah, theobromine. A Remarkable Man is the $16.95 story (ouch! I thought the web was going to make obscure video cheap?) of Ed Thompson, Tommy Thompson?s more honest younger brother. Having spent his youth in Toughman contests, you would think that the concussions would have properly prepared Ed for a political career. Unfortunately for him, he seems to have retained plenty of IQ, and he went into business instead. He ...

BALTIMORE -- Baltimore City police arrested a Virginia couple over the weekend after they asked an officer for directions. WBAL-TV 11 News I-Team reporter David Collins said Joshua Kelly and Llara Brook, of Chantilly, Va., got lost leaving an Orioles game on Saturday. Collins reported a city officer arrested them for trespassing on a public street while they were asking for directions . "In jail for eight hours -- sleeping on a concrete floor next to a toilet," Kelly said. "It was a nightmare," Brook said. "I was in there thinking I was just dreaming and waiting to wake up." Collins reported it was a nightmare ending to a nearly perfect day. He said the couple went to a company ...

The 72-year-old mayor of Waldron has been charged with patronizing a prostitute and abusing the public trust for allegedly using his official position to obtain sex. Assistant Prosecuting Attorney John Riedel said Mayor Troy Anderson was charged Monday in Scott County Circuit Court with four counts of patronizing a prostitute, a misdemeanor, and two counts of abuse of the public trust, a felony. The allegations involve two women. A state police affidavit says that in one case, Anderson gave a woman with whom he was having sex special treatment on her city water bill and also paid her for sex. The state police affidavit says that in another case, Anderson tried to solicit sex from a woman ...

Phone Firms Questioned

WASHINGTON — While Capitol Hill debated the issue Friday, many lawyers voiced surprise that three major telephone companies had agreed to make available to the National Security Agency the phone records of tens of millions of Americans. That's because Congress made it illegal 20 years ago for telephone companies and computer service providers to turn over to the government records showing who their customers had dialed or e-mailed. ADVERTISEMENT "I would not want to be the general counsel of one of these phone companies," said Orin S. Kerr, a law professor at George Washington University and a former Justice Department lawyer who has worked on electronic surveillance. Kerr ...

Garland Simmons was excited when the Cowboy Church began meeting at his place on Horseshoe Bend Road in late March. It appears, however, that somebody did not share his enthusiasm. Simmons was notified by Bedford County officials that the Cowboy Church meetings violate county zoning regulations. "I got the notice certified through the mail, Monday morning," Simmons said. The notice consisted of two letters. One was from Gary McIver, the county's building official. McIver wrote that, by hosting the Cowboy Church on his property, Simmons is using it in a manner contrary to its agricultural (AR) zoning. He also wrote that the building in which the Cowboy Church is being held, is ...

Within the last week, Karl Rove told President Bush and Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten, as well as a few other high level administration officials, that he will be indicted in the CIA leak case and will immediately resign his White House job when the special counsel publicly announces the charges against him, according to sources. Details of Rove's discussions with the president and Bolten have spread through the corridors of the White House where low-level staffers and senior officials were trying to determine how the indictment would impact an administration that has been mired in a number of high-profile political scandals for nearly a year, said a half-dozen White House aides and two ...

NEW YORK At a press briefing this afternoon aboard Air Force On en route to Mississippi, a White House spokeswoman refused to confirm or deny that the president had tried to halt today's USA Today bombshell report on the National Security Agency collecting records of tens of millions of ordinary Americans' phone calls. The spokeswoman, Dana Perino, said she would not comment when a reporter posed that question, and declined again on a followup. A USA Today spokesman told E&P he would check to see if the White House approached the newspaper before publication. President Bush this morning did not take issue with the USA Today story, but did not deny it either. Earlier, the White House ...

Congress wants to change the Internet. This is news to most people because the major news media have not actively pursued the story. Yet both the House and Senate commerce committees are promoting new rules governing the manner by which most Americans receive the Web. Congressional passage of new rules is widely anticipated, as is President Bush's signature. Once this happens, the Internet will change before your eyes. Advertisement The proposed House legislation, the Communications Opportunity, Promotion and Enhancement Act (COPE), offers no protections for "network neutrality." Currently, your Internet provider does not voluntarily censor the Web as it enters your home. This ...

Permission to Speak Freely Back in February 2003, The American Conservative ran an editorial under the heading “Free Taki.” Mind you, it was a shot across the bow of Scotland Yard’s “Diversity Division,” which was investigating me for an article I had written in the Spectator of London about British drug gangs. “The freedom of political speech is one of the bedrock institutions of the West,” we thundered, but it would be stretching it if I now wrote that Scotland Yard got our message and let me go. First of all, I was never arrested, just investigated. I had written that most of the drug gangsters were Afro-Caribbean, just like their fathers and ...

GOP/White House Appointee Sex Perversion 'Wink And Nod' Cabal By Wayne Madsen Wayne Madsen http://Report.com 4-6-6 The GOP's family values. While the mainstream media has ignored the sex perverts who dominate the Bush administration, from senior White House officials to lower level political appointees in various federal agencies, WMR has repeatedly reported on what amounts to a "wink and nod" cabal of individuals who represent anything but the much-ballyhooed GOP "family values." It helps to explain how a male prostitute managed to gain access to White House press conferences. Bush administration appointees have been keeping Maryland police particularly busy. A ...

Jeb's Taliban Hard At Work In Florida Covering-Up Murder, Pushing Drugs And Spreading Climate Of Terror, Says Sarasota Man Who Claims Father's Murder Being Hidden By Gov. Jeb Bush By Greg Szymanski 4-6-6 According to Steve Esdale of Florida, 'Jeb's Taliban' is hard at work in his state covering-up murders, pushing drugs and spreading a general climate of fear and terror, claiming Gov. Jeb Bush is "real the kingpin of crime" and Florida's No. 1 "undercover crime boss." Esdale has stepped-out on a dangerous limb with these accusations not because he has a political bone to pick with the Bush family or because he is a whacked-out liberal on an anti-Republican campaign. ...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A former top White House aide testified that President George W. Bush authorized leaking classified intelligence in 2003 in the face of criticism of his Iraq policy from a former ambassador, according to court papers made public on Thursday. Democrats seized on the news, accusing Bush of hypocrisy. The president has often denounced leaks from his administration and vowed to punish the leakers. This was the first time Bush was directly linked to this incident. "If the disclosure is true, it's breathtaking. The president is revealed as the leaker-in-chief," said Rep. Jane Harman of California, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee. The papers ...

IRS plans to allow preparers to sell data

The IRS is quietly moving to loosen the once-inviolable privacy of federal income-tax returns. If it succeeds, accountants and other tax-return preparers will be able to sell information from individual returns - or even entire returns - to marketers and data brokers. The change is raising alarm among consumer and privacy-rights advocates. It was included in a set of proposed rules that the Treasury Department and the IRS published in the Dec. 8 Federal Register, where the official notice labeled them "not a significant regulatory action." IRS officials portray the changes as housecleaning to update outmoded regulations adopted before it began accepting returns electronically. ...

President John F.Kennedy, The Federal Reserve And Executive Order 11110

On June 4, 1963, a little known attempt was made to strip the Federal Reserve Bank of its power to loan money to the government at interest. On that day President John F. Kennedy signed Executive Order No. 11110 that returned to the U.S. government the power to issue currency, without going through the Federal Reserve. Mr. Kennedy's order gave the Treasury the power "to issue silver certificates against any silver bullion, silver, or standard silver dollars in the Treasury." This meant that for every ounce of silver in the U.S. Treasury's vault, the government could introduce new money into circulation. In all, Kennedy brought nearly $4.3 billion in U.S. notes into circulation. ...
