Darquan R. LeeA handgun was found in a Bridgeton man's "anal cavity" during a strip search at the Cumberland County Jail on Friday, police said in a news release. When officers arrested 21-year-old Darquan R. Lee, of Pamphylia Avenue, on a contempt of court warrant Friday afternoon, they searched him and brought him to the Bridgeton police station, according to Lt. Thomas Speranza, of the Bridgeton Police Department, in the release. But at the station, suspicion that Lee might be hiding something arose when he asked police to use the bathroom, but then "refused" after officers told him that they would pat him down and search the bathroom "before and after he ...
Justice for Melissa Anne Bingham. Ten shot in Baltimore Thursday night Post Date: 2015-05-09 10:51:16 by Tooconservative

Thursday night turned out to be a seriously tragic episode in Baltimore, where the city is already in the grips of major unrest over the case of Freddy Gray. Ten people were shot, with three of them winding up dead and the remainder being treated for wounds of varying severity. Hearing something like that, youre to be forgiven if you are once again expressing dismay over the relations between the police and the community. How, you might be wondering, could this happen? Are the looters out of control? Have the cops just started mowing people down at random? Well, as it turns out you would be wrong. This had nothing to do with the protests or the police or the Mayor or the City ...

Baltimore’s Problem, and America’s: The criminal-justice system is a disaster. Post Date: 2015-05-08 08:55:34 by Tooconservative

It would be ungracious of me not to acknowledge with gratitude the column on Sunday of my old friend Fareed Zakaria, citing several sources, including me, as he recounts the almost unmitigated moral bankruptcy of the U.S. criminal-justice system. As the Freddie Gray riots and indictments in Baltimore continue the fortnightly spectacles of fatal police excess that, with the eager amplification of the media, are creating the world-wide and not entirely false impression that American law enforcement is conducting a sea-to-sea shooting gallery, it is timely to review these problems, which are now decried from right (e.g., George Will) to left (e.g., Katrina vanden Heuvel). They extend from ...
NYPD Cop Tries to ‘Cop a Feel’ on a Woman, Her Friend Tries to Film it, So they Assault and Kidnap Him Post Date: 2015-05-07 07:56:29 by Deckard

A video released last week has once again caught the police in a lie. Two NYPD officers were caught assaulting a man for filming an officer who was inappropriately touching his female friend during a stop and frisk. Jason Disisto and his friends were hanging out on a sidewalk on March 12, 2014, when Officer Jonathan Munoz walked up to Disistos female friend, grabbed her wrist, and began to put his hands inside her sweater. Concerned about what he is seeing, Disisto borrows a cellphone and attempts to begin filming the interaction. This is something that we are all well within our rights- and frankly morally obligated- to do. Seeing that he is about to film, ...

How Private DNA Data Led Idaho Cops on a Wild Goose Chase and Linked an Innocent Man to a 20-year-old Murder Case Post Date: 2015-05-06 07:41:24 by Willie Green

The New Orleans Advocate recently published a shocking story that details the very real threats to privacy and civil liberties posed by law enforcement access to private genetic databases and familial DNA searching. In 1996, a young woman named Angie Dodge was murdered in her apartment in a small town in Idaho. Although the police collected DNA from semen left at the crime scene, they havent been able to match the DNA to existing profiles in any criminal database, and the murder has never been solved. Fast forward to 2014. The Idaho police sent the semen sample to a private lab to extract a DNA profile that included YSTR and mtDNAthe two genetic markers used to determine ...

Strapped with an assault rifle, a Los Angeles sheriffs deputy stormed up to a woman recording from a residential sidewalk, snatching the camera from her hands and sending it smashing to the pavement before kicking it towards her in a shocking display of rage. The deputy then walked off with a group of other deputies who appeared to be part of the SWAT team. The story is new, but it appears this was an operation of at least two agencies to include the LA sheriff and US marshals. My favorite part was when one of the 'good cops' stepped in and stopped the miscreant from violating the civil rights of a law-abiding citizen. My second favorite part will be watching my liberty-minded ...

The volunteer Oklahoma deputy charged in the shooting death of an unarmed black man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to second-degree manslaughter and won approval for a controversial family vacation. The vacation drew an angry response from the family of Eric Harris, who was fatally shot by Bates on April 2. The FBI cleared an Oklahoma sheriffs deputy of violating a suspects civil rights in the case of a Tulsa County reserve deputy fatally shooting an unarmed man after the volunteer grabbed his revolver instead of his stun gun, the sheriff said Monday. But it remains unclear if 73-year-old Robert Bates was qualified to use the gun he fired April 2, killing 44-year-old Eric Harris, said Sheriff Stanley Glanz. Bates, a wealthy insurance executive who has known Glanz for 25 years on both a professional and personal level, faces a second-degree manslaughter charge for accidentally killing Harris during a gun-and-drug buy sting.
