Let’s start by getting all of the caveats out of the way about misinterpreting the results of the special House election that Democrat Kathy Hochul just won in Western New York. There were local issues at work that mean nothing outside of the Buffalo area. There was a third candidate in the race -- a one-time Democrat who ran under the Tea Party banner -- whose presence probably hurt the Republican candidate, Jane Corwin, more than it hurt Hochul (although the disparity is probably not nearly as severe as Republicans will claim). Scott Walker’s budget proposals is not dead, three months after he unveiled his plan to curtail collective bargaining rights for public workers. On a chilly and drizzly May day, a crowd gathered on the Capitol lawn and pooled out into State Street, listening to speakers urge them to keep up the fight against Walker’s policies. (AP) — Wisconsin officials say the protests at the Capitol over public workers' collective bargaining rights cost more than $7.8 million for police, but that damage to the Capitol will only cost about $270,000. Department of Administration officials say the police cost is based on claims from more than 200 police departments and other state agencies. Thirty-two police agencies have not yet submitted claims. Madison — Loans secured with auto titles would again be legal in Wisconsin under a proposal adopted Thursday by the Legislature's budget committee that also rolls back other restrictions on payday loans. The Joint Finance Committee voted without debate 11-5 to add the proposal to the state budget, with all Republicans except Sen. For the first time in Gallup history, more Republicans than Democrats support a new third major political party, according to a new Gallup survey. Fifty-two percent of Republicans say they support a third party because the two major parties do such "a poor job" of representing the people.
