Zuccotti cop-cap heist was just 'youthful exuberance,' says lawyer Brandan Watts, covered with blood after stealing a cop's hat. Stealing a cop's cap was just "youthful exuberance," a lawyer said today of the 20-year-old Occupy Wall Street protester whose face was photographed covered in blood after his arrest last week. Brandon Watts remains charged with felony grand larceny for the post-Zuccotti Park eviction confrontation, in which he also allegedly threw a pen and an AA battery -- each time missing -- at cops at 1 Liberty Plaza. He was in court today for the cap-heist -- learning that prosecutors have yet to put the case before a grand jury -- and for two ...

The claims of a dedicated member of the Occupy Buffalo movement that he saw combat in Iraq and Afghanistan are not supported by Army records. Christopher M. Simmance has told several media outlets, including The Buffalo News, that he served as many as three tours of duty in those war zones and that he was severely injured in Afghanistan. Service records obtained from the Army, however, show he was stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash., for three years and he left the active-duty Army in January 2001 -- before the 9/11 terror attacks. Simmance insists his Army records are incomplete. He told The News he stands by his claims of seeing combat. "Everything I've told you is completely ...

Demonstrators Plan to Occupy Retailers on Black Friday Some demonstrators are planning to occupy retailers on Black Friday to protest "the business that are in the pockets of Wall Street." Organizers are encouraging consumers to either occupy or boycott retailers that are publicly traded, according to the Stop Black Friday website. The goal of the movement is to impact the profits of major corporations this holiday season. "The idea is simple, hit the corporations that corrupt and control American politics where it hurts, their profits, " states the Occupy Black Friday Facebook page. A few of the retailers the protesters plan on targeting include Neiman Marcus, ...

Amazing Ride Nears End for 'First Brother' Reggie Love Reggie Love walked into his windowless office late last week and surveyed the confines. It wasn't exactly an ideal place to work, especially for someone standing 6 feet, 5 inches. A burgundy couch, desk and cabinet took up much of the floor, leaving little room to maneuver. "The space is small," Love said. "But the real estate is valuable." Nearly every day, Love takes a right turn out of his office, walks a few steps and opens a door to the most famous office in the world: the Oval Office. Whatever President Obama happens to need once inside, from a copy of a speech to a newspaper, Love gets for him. ...

Occupy Wall Street protesters stay at $700-a-night hotel Hell no, we won’t go — unless we get goose down pillows. A key Occupy Wall Street leader and another protester who leads a double life as a businessman ditched fetid tents and church basements for rooms at a luxurious hotel that promises guests can “unleash [their] inner Gordon Gekko,” The Post has learned. The $700-per-night W Hotel Downtown last week hosted both Peter Dutro, one of a select few OWS members on the powerful finance committee, and Brad Spitzer, a California-based analyst who not only secretly took part in protests during a week-long business trip but offered shelter to protesters in his swanky ...

Stacey Hessler, 38, was lifted off the pavement in the center of Broad Street by three cops who slapped plastic bracelets on her wrists and dragged her away kicking and screaming. “What did I do? Court order allows Occupy Wall Street protesters back Hundreds of police officers in riot gear raided Zuccotti Park early Tuesday, evicting dozens of Occupy Wall Street protesters from what has become the epicenter of the worldwide movement protesting corporate greed and economic inequality. Hours later, the National Lawyers Guild obtained a court order allowing Occupy Wall Street protesters to return with tents to the park. The guild said the injunction prevents the city from enforcing park rules on Occupy Wall Street protesters. At a morning news conference at City Hall, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the city knew about the court order but had not seen it and would go to court to fight ...

Protesters did little to resist as police took down tents in Chapman and Lownsdale Squares, according to The Oregonian. Portland Commissioner Nick Fish said the two parks would likely be fenced off later Sunday and closed to the public for about a week. About 3,000 people gathered in the streets around the parks as the 12:01am Sunday deadline to leave the parks -- demanded by Portland Mayor Sam Adams -- approached. An ...

Obama Fans Threaten Sheriff Joe About Birth Certificate Investigation Last week I told you about Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s investigation into the birth records of Barack Obama. Arpaio has been not only investigating the authenticity of Obama’s birth records, of which three different ones have been released by the White House, but he is also investigating the reports that Obama is using someone else’s Social Security Number. He has told the White House that they need to authorize the Department of Health in Hawaii to open up all of the original paper and ink documents concerning Obama’s birth to an independent court-authorized forensic examination. Then and ...

With wintry weather poised to swoop into the cramped outdoor quarters of Occupy Wall Street protesters, it may not be long before more campers catch what's being called "Zuccotti lung." That's what demonstrators have dubbed the sickness that seems to be spreading among them at an unpleasantly high rate these days: "It's a real thing," Willie Carey, 28, told the New York Times. With little sleep in cold conditions, cigarettes and drinks being passed from mouth to mouth, and few opportunities to wash hands, Zuccotti ...

by Capitol Confidential When Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) was convinced by a retailing giant to enact legislation imposing price controls on credit card transactions he engineered a massive wealth transfer from credit card companies to retailers – a cost that would ultimately be borne by consumers. Opponents of Durbin’s fee warned of the consequences of his actions including increased costs for consumers and elimination of credit card incentive programs. As Milton Friedman said, “there is no free lunch.” After the government imposed their fee cap, the marketplace responded predictably. Banks, including Bank of America, raised fees on consumers in order to cover the cost ...

2 deaths at Occupy protests in Calif. and Vermont OAKLAND, Calif. The Oakland killing is further straining relations between local officials and anti-Wall Street protesters. OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- In Oakland, Occupy protesters gathered Wednesday night and voted to withdraw a resolution calling for future demonstrators to remain peaceful. A small number of the protesters have openly called for the use of violence as a tactic to get their message out. The vote by the group came just hours after Oakland city leaders called for the camp at Frank Ogawa Plaza to shut down immediately. City officials have also cut off streetlights at the camp as well as a faucet protesters had been using to get water. Also Thursday, Oakland City Council President Larry Reid told ABC7 News that the council may take a "no confidence" vote for Mayor Jean Quan.

The Obama administration said Thursday it is delaying a decision on a massive oil pipeline until it can study new potential routes that avoid environmentally sensitive areas of Nebraska, a move that likely puts off final action on the pipeline until after the 2012 election. The announcement by the State Department means Calgary-based TransCanada Corp. will have to figure out a way to move the proposed Keystone XL pipeline around the Nebraska Sandhills region and Ogallala aquifer, which supplies water to eight states. The State Department said it will require an environmental review of the new section, which is expected to be completed in early 2013. President Barack Obama said the 1,700 ...
