Team Obama's Wacky Priorities on Illegal Immigrants and Jobs By Rep. Dana Rohrabacher Published July 01, 2010 | FoxNews.com Print Email Share Comments (0) Text Size Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis recently released a taxpayer funded bilingual public service announcement advertising a hotline established for workers, documented and undocumented, to call in to if they believe they are not being fairly compensated. At a time when the nation is facing double digit unemployment in many places, including in my home state of California, the Obama administration has once again demonstrated how misplaced its priorities truly are. Using taxpayer dollars to reassure ...

Surprise Rise in Jobless Claims Stokes Recovery Worries July 1, 2010 WASHINGTON (Reuters) - New claims for state unemployment aid unexpectedly rose last week, heightening fears the U.S. economic recovery is stalling. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits increased 13,000 to a seasonally adjusted 472,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday. Analysts polled by Reuters had expected claims to slip to 452,000 from the previously reported 457,000, which was revised slightly up to 459,000 in Thursday's report. While layoffs have slowed sharply from early last year, businesses remain skeptical of the strength of the recovery and are holding back on hiring, keeping claims for ...

Later today: Damning report on oil spill response By: David Freddoso Online Opinion Editor 07/01/10 9:35 AM EDT The Democratic congressional majority has had little stomach for its duty of overseeing the Obama administration. Unfortunately, this has resulted in strictly partisan oversight as Republicans on the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee step into the vacuum. But at least theres someone keeping an eye on this administration, because the press hasnt always been so hot on it. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., the committees ranking member, has announced he will release a report later today on the oil spill response. It appears to bolster criticisms from ...

Islam and the Left - Two Sides of the Same Coin By Daniel Greenfield Thursday, July 1, 2010 On the surface of it they seem to have very little in common. The left claims to be progressive, embraces gay bars, abortions, feminism, workers rights civil rights, multiculturalism and obscene slogans. The Islamists throw acid in womens faces, hang gays on every streetcorner and repress minorities and freedom of expression. This seeming contrast baffles many who demand to know how for example the left can champion Islamic regimes which mandate the death penalty for homosexuality. The answer is very simple. The people asking the question have mistaken the facade for the reality. The ...

Obama the Edsel Focus groups indicate independents are souring on Obama quickly. Earlier this month, Resurgent Republic an independent public-opinion-research group headed by former Republican National Committee chairman Ed Gillespie conducted focus groups in five key House districts, measuring how independent voters and, separately, self-identified tea-party members felt about the direction of the country. Bad news for President Obama and congressional Democrats is common these days, but these results unveiled Tuesday are simply dismal. Asked to compare Obama to a car, one Iowan chose an Edsel: Something that had a lot of hype, but failed to live up to ...

Second, today Roll Call reports (subscription required) that during todays White House meeting called by the president to try and advance his global-warming agenda by using the Gulf spill as the tail to wag that otherwise dead dog Obama accused Tennessee senator Lamar Alexander of raising a talking point by seeking to discuss response measures the ...

Report: Deficit, debt get worse despite health care law Congressional Budget Office director Douglas Elmendorf projects deficits and debt getting much worse in future years. By Chip Somodevilla The men and women charged with figuring out how to reduce federal deficits and debt got some more bad news this morning: the numbers keep getting worse. That was the news from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, which for the first time took into consideration the new health care law, heralded by President Obama and Democrats for reducing deficits in the long run. The new report doesn't contradict that. It simply points out that any long-term savings from the health-care law, such ...

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Senate has unanimously confirmed Gen. David Petraeus as the next commander of the Afghanistan war. The vote was 99-0. Petraeus replaces Gen. Stanley McChrystal, whose three-decade career ended in disgrace because of inflammatory remarks he and his aides made to Rolling Stone magazine. As U.S. Central Command chief, Petraeus was McChrystal's boss and already overseeing operations in Afghanistan. His replacement at Central Command has not been announced.

Racial Gerrymandering Backfires The president's job approval rating among whites is likely only about 39% By JOHN FUND Nothing has done more to rattle Democratic incumbents than a National Public Radio poll earlier this month on the outlook in the 70 most competitive races in the House -- 60 of which involve seats now held by Democrats and 10 by Republicans. The numbers revealed in the poll have eye-popping implications. The NPR poll showed that Republicans lead the generic ballot test in these 70 districts by 49% to 41%, and have a five-point lead in districts with a Democratic incumbent. At the same time, Republicans have a solid 16-point lead in those competitive districts they ...

Why Is Obama Killing American Jobs In the Name of Clean Energy? By Newt Gingrich & Steve Everley Published June 30, 2010 | FOXNews.com Print Email Share Comments (3) Text Size In a 2008 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, then-candidate Barack Obama explained that electricity prices would necessarily skyrocket under his ideal energy policy of capping carbon emissions from coal plants. So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can, Obama said. Its just that it will bankrupt them. Senator Obama could not have been clearer: his administrations policy goal would be to make new coal plant construction in the United ...

"For even as we celebrate tonight," Mr. Obama said that night, "we know the challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime -- two wars, a planet in peril, the worst financial crisis in a century." At the same time, however, the president-elect was also focused on the more provincial matter of who would occupy ...

Dems will 'deem' a budget resolution into existence Rick Moran For the first time since the new budget rules went into effect back in the 1970's, there will be no budget resolution that House members can vote on. And to add insult, to injury, to irresponsible governing, the Democrats will simply "deem" a budget resolution to have passed so they can pork up federal spending even more. You may recall that the Democrats were considering "deeming" the health care reform bill into existence - that is, until the public outcry would have made it too expensive politically to do so. But who cares about a minor detail like a budget resolution? "It is truly ...

The man who has given America a trillion dollar-plus deficit, the man who, with ample help from our Democratically-controlled Congress, literally quadrupled the worst excesses of a spendthrift Bush administration's worst year, is going to call someone else's bluff? WASHINGTON -- Gen. David Petraeus echoed world leaders on Tuesday, saying the U.S. will "need to provide assistance to Afghanistan for a long time to come." Petraeus, who is expected to be confirmed by a Senate panel Tuesday to replace the ousted Gen. Stanley McChrystal as the top commander in Afghanistan, noted at his confirmation hearing that President Obama's reminder in recent days that July 2011 will mark the beginning of a process to withdraw troops -- not the date when the U.S. heads for the exit doors and turn out the lights. At the G-20 summit last weekend, world leaders agreed that it will take a number of years before Afghan forces can assume most security tasks ...

General David Petraeus today said hes concerned the U.S. militarys rules of engagement in Afghanistan are too restrictive and putting American forces at risk. U.S. and allied soldiers in Afghanistan are dying at the fastest pace in the war, now nine years old and the longest in U.S. history.
