A Secret Detroit Warehouse is Home to the Rarest American Cars Ever Made
Post Date: 2016-03-20 12:12:41 by Justified
Getting to the Detroit Historical Society’s reserve collection almost sounds like the beginning of a sci-fi conspiracy novel. I am given directions to a remote storage facility that I’m asked to keep secret. Their nondescript front office hides a door to a vast warehouse where footsteps echo past visible light. It’s filled with rows of machines sealed away in their own plastic pods, each with a layer of dust that makes it feel like a forgotten secrets. Scared? Nope. I’m too excited about being let into the world of these treasures. Occasionally stories about this place come out because it’s home to a few priceless prototypes, but it turns out there are a lot more ...

The Lone Ranger's Creed

The Lone Ranger's Creed "I believe that to have a friend, a man must be one. That all men are created equal and that everyone has within himself the power to make this a better world. That God put the firewood there but that every man must gather and light it himself. In being prepared physically, mentally, and morally to fight when necessary for that which is right. That a man should make the most of what equipment he has. That 'This government, of the people, by the people and for the people' shall live always. That men should live by the rule of what is best for the greatest number. That sooner or later... somewhere...somehow... we must settle with the world and ...

Adolf Hitler's Views and Opinions of Democracy Adolf HitlerAdolf Hitler was born in Austria in 1889 and, as a teen, lived a poor life in Vienna. He served as a lance corporal for the Bavarian military during the first World War, and received two Iron Crosses for bravery. After the war Hitler breathed life into the German Worker's Party, renamed it the National Socialist German Worker's Party, and in 1920 released the 25-Point program, a list of Party demands. In 1923 Hitler and the Nazi Party attempted to take over the Bavarian government by force. Hitler was arrested and imprisoned; he served only nine months of a five-year sentence and spent his free time writing Mein ...

Why The Left Doesn’t Want You To Know About The Tripolitan Pirate Wars
Post Date: 2016-02-26 13:06:55 by nativist nationalist
The great historian George Santayana is often quoted as saying, Progress, far from consisting in change, depends on retentiveness. When change is absolute there remains no being to improve and no direction is set for possible improvement: and when experience is not retained, as among savages, infancy is perpetual. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. One of the greatest weapons in the arsenal of the social justice warriors is the revision of history. This is nothing new: every totalitarian or tyrannical regime has used the revision of history as a means to control its population. Like the confiscation of arms, tyranny is always preceded by a rewriting of history. ...

Son of Hercules vs. Hydra: Altar Showing Mythical Battle Discovered
Post Date: 2015-12-28 22:02:26 by cranky
This marble altar, dating to the second century A.D., was discovered near the Akçay River in Turkey. It shows a nude warrior battling a serpent monster. An inscription written in Greek is at top.An ancient marble altar showing a nude warrior battling a serpent monster has been discovered by villagers near the Akçay River in Turkey. Archaeologists said the altar likely dates to the second century A.D., a time when the Roman Empire controlled the area.  The carved scene on the altar is difficult to interpret, archaeologists said. They think it may show a son of Hercules, named Bargasos, fighting a monster in a battle that would bring forth a beneficial river god named ...

Mel Gibson, braveheart, and today.
Post Date: 2015-12-08 22:53:13 by rlk
I recently watched Mel Gibson in Braveheart for the upteenth time. Gibson has reformed his career into producing, directing, and acting in historical decumentaries. Braveheart won five academy awards. For those who are unfamilier with the film, it concerns the period when Longshanks was king of England and was oppressing the Scots. Gibson plays the part of William Wallace who led a successful rebellian against Longshanks and the British but eventually paid with his life. I've purchased two loaners of the movie to distribute among receptive friends. I believe what this country desperatewly needs at the present time is a william Wallace to confront the elitists and the politicians.

Chain email about the Barbary pirates and Islam

Chain email about the Barbary pirates and Islam This is the full text of the chain email received by PolitiFact about the Barbary pirates and Islam. *** Most Americans are unaware of the fact that over two hundred years ago, the United States had declared war on Islam, and Thomas Jefferson led the charge! At the height of the eighteenth century, Muslim pirates were the terror of the Mediterranean and a large area of the North Atlantic. They attacked every ship in sight, and held the crews for exorbitant ransoms. Those taken hostage were subjected to barbaric treatment and wrote heart breaking letters home, begging their government and family members to pay whatever their Mohammedan ...

The Statue of Liberty Was Originally a Muslim Woman
Post Date: 2015-11-27 10:16:11 by Willie Green
"The New Colossus" was actually born in Egypt The United States has debated immigration since the country's founding, and the Statue of Liberty—a potent symbol for immigrants—is often invoked as an argument for why we should usher in those who seek safety and opportunity with open arms. A little-known fact about Lady Liberty adds an intriguing twist to today's debate about refugees from the Muslim world: As pointed out by The Daily Beast’s Michael Daly in a recent op-ed, the statue itself was originally intended to represent a female Egyptian peasant as a Colossus of Rhodes for the Industrial Age.  ...

Japanese-American Internment {Is history about to repeat itself?}
Post Date: 2015-11-19 15:59:20 by SOSO
Japanese-American Internment Many Americans worried that citizens of Japanese ancestry would act as spies or saboteurs for the Japanese government. Fear — not evidence — drove the U.S. to place over 127,000 Japanese-Americans in concentration camps for the duration of WWII.Over 127,000 United States citizens were imprisoned during World War II. Their crime? Being of Japanese ancestry. Despite the lack of any concrete evidence, Japanese Americans were suspected of remaining loyal to their ancestral land. Anti-Japanese paranoia increased because of a large Japanese presence on the West Coast. In the event of a Japanese invasion of the American mainland, Japanese Americans were ...

Russia’s Pacific Paradise (The period Czarist Russia ruled Hawaii)
Post Date: 2015-10-15 12:03:32 by Pericles
Russia’s Pacific Paradise In 1815, a German, on behalf of the Russian-American Company, tried to conquer Hawaii in the name of the Tsar. By Casey Michel October 15, 2015 In mid-October 1815, two hundred years ago this month, a German doctor set sail from one of Russia’s fledgling American outposts. Georg Anton Schäffer, an employee of the Russian-American Company (RAC) boarded the Isabella with the ostensible purpose of earning the favor of the Hawaii’s King Kamehameha. But when he landed on Hawaii, Schäffer set the wheels in motion for a chapter of failed Pacific conquest since smothered in archives, forgotten by all but a handful of scholars. The tale of ...

On the Question of Free Trade Preface by Frederick Engels for the 1888 English edition pamphlet TOWARDS the end of 1847, a Free Trade Congress was held at Brussels. It as a strategic move in the Free Trade campaign then carried on by the English manufacturers. Victorious at home, by the repeal of the Corn Laws in 1846, they now invaded the continent in order to demand, in return for the free admission of continental corn into England, the free admission of English manufactured goods to the continental markets. At this Congress, Marx inscribed himself on the list of speakers; but, as might have been expected, things were not so managed that before his turn came on, the Congress was ...

1970s Coca Cola Commercial - "It's the Real Thing!" (sang by 'The Fortunes')
Post Date: 2015-07-27 13:10:38 by Liberator
If you were of age, you've got to remember this: Poster Comment:Time for a 30-second commercial break and nostalgia. I'd searched a long time to find this jingle from Coke, sung by 'The Fortunes (who also sang, 'Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again', 'You've Got Your Troubles, I've Got Mine'.) Always thought their 'It's The Real Thing' was a great, cheery up-tempo catchy jingle. It seemed as though many of the 1960s and early 1970s jingles were indeed cherry and up-tempo, mini-hit singles unto themselves with memorable hooks. Those commercial jingles of old can be just as memory-evoking and sentimental as hit songs. The Fortunes' ...

The Confederate Flag Needs To Be Raised, Not Lowered [Full Thread]
Post Date: 2015-07-10 23:10:37 by Hondo68
In 1864, Confederate General Patrick Cleburne warned his fellow southerners of the historical consequences should the South lose their war for independence. He was truly a prophet. He said if the South lost, “It means that the history of this heroic struggle will be written by the enemy. That our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers; will learn from Northern school books their version of the war; will be impressed by all of the influences of History and Education to regard our gallant dead as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision.” No truer words were ever spoken.History revisionists flooded America’s public schools with Northern ...

Russia outraged by Poland's removal of Soviet war memorial
Post Date: 2015-07-05 13:11:52 by Willie Green
Russia said on Saturday it was outraged by Poland's destruction of a Soviet war monument, warning Warsaw of the "most negative consequences" after what it said was a flagrant violation of an agreement between the two countries on protecting memorial sites.Poland has been one of the most vocal critics of Russia's annexation of Ukraine's Crimea peninsula in 2014. Russia and Poland share a history of conflicts and the disagreement over war memorials is likely to add to tensions."Warsaw must finally understand that the 'war of monuments' unleashed in Poland may have the most negative consequences, for which the responsibility lies squarely with its ...

Generals Sherman and Sheridan: The War Criminals
Post Date: 2015-06-29 09:56:28 by lana
Generals Sherman and Sheridan: The War Criminals During the War Between the States the Union forces were waging war on women and children on two separate fronts, raping, pillaging and murdering in the South as well as in the West. The most notorious of these thugs reported to General William Tecumseh Sherman, famous for his march to the sea. But long before that he had adopted a policy of “total war” against civilians. In 1862 Sherman was having difficulty subduing Confederate sharpshooters who were harassing federal gunboats on the Mississippi River near Memphis. He then implemented the theory of “collective responsibility” to “justify” attacking innocent ...

Captain Atoka: Choctaw Chief and Confederate Defender
Post Date: 2015-06-29 09:28:10 by lana
Captain Atoka: Choctaw Chief and Confederate Defender This simple monument, standing in front of the Atoka County Courthouse, Atoka, Oklahoma, memorializes the man for whom both the city and the county were named: Captain Atoka Oshlatubee. Born about 1782, Atoka was a noted athlete, a respected leader, and Chief of the Pushmataha District in the Choctaw Nation. He signed the treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek in 1830 and led a band of Choctaws from Mississippi on the "Trail of Tears" to settle in the area now known as Oklahoma, in 1834. Atoka died during the War Between the States. Like most Native Americans in the Indian Territory (Oklahoma), Atoka was a strong supporter of the ...

Stand Waitie and the Confederate Indians
Post Date: 2015-06-29 09:21:24 by lana
Have you ever noticed that some participants in America's greatest calamity, its War Between the States, are quite familiar to us? Meanwhile, many others of that eventful age are ignored or likely no longer even known by those academics who are the gatekeepers of our national memory. Among the forgotten are the American Indians of the Five "Civilized" Tribes — Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole — most of whom fought for the Confederacy. Few participants in that war exhibited greater courage, or suffered greater loss, than these long-forgotten patriots, whose blood kin included such distinguished personages as the great Sequoyah (George Gist), who ...

I grew up with a father who spoke English as a second language and a mother who was intelligent, but not especially intellectual, and I went off to study film theory at college armed with an arsenal of words I knew the meaning of, but did not know how to say, because I had never heard them pronounced. It was a revelation when I first heard “paradigm” spoken in a lecture. My mind struggled to match meaning to the word I just heard – “para-DIME” – what the hell is a ‘para-DIME”? Oh, it’s a “para-DIG-uhm”. Paradigm. Assuage. Indict. Coronet. Affidavit. Heinous. Bobbi Brown helped me out with prerogative. ASS—you-wodge. I was pretty ...

In an 1856 letter to his wife Mary Custis Lee, Robert E. Lee called slavery "a moral and political evil." Yet he concluded that black slaves were immeasurably better off here than in Africa, morally, socially and physically. The fact is large numbers of free Negroes owned black slaves; in fact, in numbers disproportionate to their representation in society at large. In 1860 only a small minority of whites owned slaves. According to the U.S. census report for that last year before the Civil War, there were nearly 27 million whites in the country. Some eight million of them lived in the slaveholding states. The census also determined that there were fewer than 385,000 individuals ...
