High Court: Online shoppers can be forced to pay sales tax WASHINGTON (AP) -- States will be able to force more people to pay sales tax when they make online purchases under a Supreme Court decision Thursday that will leave shoppers with lighter wallets but is a big financial win for states.Consumers can expect to see sales tax charged on more online purchases likely over the next year and potentially before the Christmas shopping season as states and retailers react to the court's decision, said one attorney involved in the case. The Supreme Court's 5-4 opinion Thursday overruled a pair of decades-old decisions that states said cost them billions of dollars in lost ...

Cindy McCain Set to Succeed Husband in Senate
Post Date: 2018-05-29 16:28:22 by hondo68
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and his wife Cindy (AP) As Arizonans prepare for their final salute to Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., Republicans and political pundits in the state privately tell Newsmax they expect the appointment of his wife, Cindy, to succeed him in the Senate. Of course, no one in the Grand Canyon State who spoke to us wants to go on record discussing what will happen when the ailing McCain no longer holds his seat. But those who did, agree almost unanimously, Cindy McCain following John in the Senate through appointment by Gov. Doug Ducey, R-Ariz., is a near certainty. "I've always assumed that was the arrangement," said a friend of the McCain family since ...
Texas, California, and the Tale of the Coyote
Post Date: 2018-04-04 23:20:06 by Dead Culture Watch
Texas, California, and the Tale of the Coyote Ive already had a couple of blog posts commenting on how Texas is kicking Californias you-know- what. Being a fiscal policy person, I always point to Californias punitive state income tax as an example of bad policy and highlight the absence of any income tax in Texas to explain the success of that state. But sometimes its just culture and attitude. Heres a joke comparing the two states, but its based on something that actually happened in Texas. CALIFORNIA: The Governor of California is jogging with his dog along a nature trail. A coyote jumps out, bites the Governor and attacks his dog. 1. The Governor ...

Libertarian Think Tank Let Boss Sexually Harass Workers
Post Date: 2018-03-10 13:36:08 by Gatlin
Libertarians hate coercion. To the extent that the anarcho-capitalist right justifies its worldview in moral terms, it is through an appeal to the obscenity of brute force. The problem with the welfare state, according to many libertarians, is not that it redistributes resources from rich to poor but that it accomplishes this by threatening wealthy tax dodgers with imprisonment. Individual liberty is sacrosanct, and just social policies are those that do not violate a persons will through a threat of state aggression. The logical flaws of this nonaggression principle are myriad. But most spring from the libertarians insistence on applying it arbitrarily, to suit ...

University of Oxford project finds Trump supporters consume largest volume of junk news on Facebook and Twitter Low-quality, extremist, sensationalist and conspiratorial news published in the US was overwhelmingly consumed and shared by rightwing social network users, according to a new study from the University of Oxford. The study, from the universitys computational propaganda project, looked at the most significant sources of junk news shared in the three months leading up to Donald Trumps first State of the Union address this January, and tried to find out who was sharing them and why. On Twitter, a network of Trump supporters ...
Dumbed-Down Security Briefings Still Too Difficult for Trump to Read
Post Date: 2018-02-09 11:36:04 by Willie Green
When Donald Trump was elected president, it quickly became obvious that the traditional national-security briefing a person in his position receives daily would be well beyond his zone of proximal development. The briefings were slimmed down in length, chopped up into easy-to-digest bullet points, and decorated with lots of graphs and pictures. Alas, the Washington Post reports, even the kiddie version of the presidential brief has proven too challenging. Now, Trump gets his briefing verbally. Trump, the Post reports, has opted to rely on an oral briefing of select intelligence issues because reading the brief which every president has been able to do since its existence ...
Bitcoin could fall below $5,000 if this report on a mysterious cryptotoken is right
Post Date: 2018-02-05 14:11:42 by Gatlin
Some people think bitcoins spectacular price rise last year was manipulated by a cryptotoken called Tether thats supposed to be pegged to the US dollar. Now, an anonymous report answers the question: What would bitcoin be worth without Tether? The answer: around $4,500, based on the current bitcoin price of about $7,600. Tether is a crypto token, or coin, thats supposed to be pegged to the dollar and backed by real dollar reserves in a bank account somewhere. Tethers coins are often used for dollars on cryptocurrency exchanges because of the reserve claim. Traders use Tethers coins to cash in and out of bitcoin quickly, avoiding the lengthy process of ...

Adam Weishaupt, founder of the Illuminati THE ILLUMINATI AIMED TO CREATE A STATE OF LIBERTY AND MORAL EQUALITY. How did a Bavarian professor end up creating a group that would be at the center of two centuries of conspiracy theories? The 18th-century German thinker Adam Weishaupt would have been stunned if he had known his ideas would one day fuel global conspiracy theories, and inspire best- selling novels and blockbuster films. Until he was 36, the vast majority of his compatriots would have been equally stunned to discover that this outwardly respectable professor was a dangerous enemy of the state, whose secret society, the Illuminati, was seen to threaten the very ...
"This Is Serious": Facebook Begins Its Downward Spiral [Full Thread]

Years ago, long before Mark Zuckerberg became Mark Zuckerberg, the young founder reached out to a friend of mine who had also started a company, albeit a considerably smaller one, in the social-media space, and suggested they get together. As Facebook has grown into a global colossus that connects about a third of the globe, Zuckerberg has subsequently assumed a reputation as an aloof megalomaniac deeply out of touch with the people who use his product. But back then, when he only had 100 million users on his platform, he wasnt perceived that way. When he reached out to my friend, Zuckerberg was solicitous. He made overtures that suggested a possible acquisitionand once ...
Documentary on the alt-right sheds light on the movement's roots
Post Date: 2018-01-18 08:57:30 by Willie Green
You might think you know the full story of the so-called alt-right, known for their venomous racism and virulent anti-feminism. But a new documentary is shedding light on what it says is one of the most surprising roots of the movement: Sexual frustration. Author Angela Nagle spent more than a year exploring the online origins of the current alt-right movement, which she says included communities of single men looking for advice on picking up women. She said many of these so-called pick-up artists argued that feminism was part of what made attracting women so difficult. Nagles report can be found in the new Fusion documentary, Trumpland: Kill All Normies. ...

The Picture-Lickers are Back!
Post Date: 2018-01-12 19:26:54 by Hank Rearden
I had no idea until I stumbled upon it. Remember when they used to slurp Bush Jr. and Laura with the Daily Worship photobombs? That's when I invented the term "picture licker" and that no doubt contributed to my banning. I like Trump fairly well, goofiness and all, but this shit is just demeaning and shameful to the idea of a theoretically-free people with an accountable government - these are worshippers, not citizens. Same as the Bush picture-lickers. Click for Full Text!
James Damore just filed a class action lawsuit against Google, saying it discriminates against white male conservatives
Post Date: 2018-01-08 23:10:27 by hondo68
James Damore, a former Google engineer who was fired in August after posting a memo to an internal Google message board arguing that women may not be equally represented in tech because they are biologically less capable of engineering, has filed a class action lawsuit against the company in Santa Clara Superior Court in Northern California. His claims: that Google unfairly discriminates against white men whose political views are unpopular with its executives. Damore is joined in the 161-page suit by another former Google engineer named David Gudeman, who spent three years with Google working on a query engine. According to Gudemans LinkedIn profile, he left the company in December 20 ...
Cops Killing Kids Has Got to Stop!

Photo by Matty Ring | CC BY 2.0 Kameron Prescott is dead the latest in a horrific string of children killed by Americas fearful and quick-to-shoot law enforcement professionals. Six-year-old Kameron, who was shot in Bexar County outside San Antonio, Texas, wasnt killed like Tamir Rice in Cleveland, who was mowed down by a police officer within seconds of his arrival on the scene as the boy sat peacefully on a bench in a park pavilion holding a toy gun. Kameron wasnt deliberately shot. He was just collateral damage in Americas militarized police war on the public killed inadvertently by a deputys bullet which had missed its intended ...

But my efforts are starting to seem like ...
Steve Bannon calls George H.W. Bush a "pervert"
Post Date: 2017-12-22 08:38:23 by Willie Green
Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon unloaded on the Bush presidents in an interview with Vanity Fair's Gabriel Sherman, calling George H.W. Bush "a pervert.""The Bush presidency is the most destructive presidency in history. James Buchanan included. It's not even close ... And by the way, I haven't even gotten to 9/11. I mean, 9/11! Think about if 9/11 had happened on Trump's watch. We would have gotten 100 percent of the blame by the Bush guys. And they said, 'Well, we just got here.' What do you mean you just got here? That's what gets me about them coming after Trump. I really detest them. I mean, the old man is a pervert. He's ...
Conspiracy Theorists Really Do See The World Differently, New Study Shows
Post Date: 2017-12-22 04:05:55 by Gatlin
To a conspiracy theorist, the world is not what it seems. Invisible threads link seemingly unrelated concepts, and there's no such thing as a random coincidence. Researchers have been scratching their heads for years over what makes some people more conspiratorially inclined. Now a recent study has finally tracked down one of the faulty thinking patterns. As it turns out, we all use it - but these people use it too much. A team of psychologists from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in the Netherlands and the University of Kent in the UK has determined that conspiracy theorists are hooked on something called 'illusory pattern perception'. "People often hold irrational ...

New Film “Graven Image” Shows How Georgia Racists Created a Confederate Myth

Three hundred and fifty million years ago, tens of thousands of feet underground, an earth-shattering magma event took place. Nearly the entire event was invisible to any living creature. Beneath the surface, as the molten hot liquid cooled, miles and miles of underground granite were formed stretching as far as 50,000 feet in any single direction. In one place, though, the molten liquid erupted above ground to form a most peculiar mountain in the middle of a relatively barren flatland. That mountainous dome structure is today called Stone Mountain. To give that some perspective, Stone Mountain was 343 million years old before anything remotely resembling the first human beings ...

The FBI has asked the U.S. Senate for redacted documents obtained from abortion providers pertaining to their involvement in fetal harvesting, signaling a possible investigation into Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers for the illegal sales of fetal tissue and body parts, The Hill reports. The move comes nearly one year after Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) referred Planned Parenthood to the FBI at the conclusion of a Senate investigation into the matter. The Senate probe into Planned Parenthood and its affiliates was prompted by the release of undercover videos from the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) involving the sale of fetal tissue. The videos included secretly ...
