Beating a photo-enforced ticket like a boss

sylvar/Flickr This simple trick may save you hundreds (INTELLIHUB) — Don’t incriminate yourself by paying expensive photo-enforced radar, speeding, or red light tickets. Learn the ropes. It may save you hundreds in the long run! Don’t aid their ‘investigation.’ Nate Cox with the popular website Cop Block wrote: Last year I received a letter in the mail from the Washington D.C DMV claiming I was speeding. As you can see it was one of those Photo-Enforced Speeding Tickets and they had multiple pictures of my CAR. I knew better to just submit and pay a fine like the majority of people do in this country, unfortunately. I am in the habit of not taking “plea ...

9 Phrases Smart People Never Use In Conversation

We’ve all said things that people interpreted much differently than we thought they would. These seemingly benign comments lead to the awful feeling that only comes when you’ve planted your foot firmly into your mouth. Verbal slip-ups often occur because we say things without knowledge of the subtle implications they carry. Understanding these implications requires social awareness—the ability to pick up on the emotions and experiences of other people. TalentSmart has tested the emotional intelligence (EQ) of more than a million people and discovered that social awareness is a skill in which many of us are lacking. We lack social awareness because we’re so focused on ...

Jeb Bush Claims That Creating Encryption Harms America

from the wanna-try-that-one-again? dept Sometimes you have to wonder if the various political candidates are trying to lose the knowledgeable techie vote. Chris Christie has been strongly pro-surveillance, and it's not hard to guess where he would come down on the whole "backdooring encryption" debate. However, few of the other candidates have been directly asked about that -- though that may be changing. Jeb Bush has now stated that he's against encryption, because, apparently it harms America. “If you create encryption, it makes it harder for the American government to do its job—while protecting civil liberties—to make sure that evildoers aren’t in ...

Windows 10 doesn’t offer much privacy by default: Here’s how to fix it

Windows 10 shares a lot of personal data with Microsoft, but you can turn most of it off. Windows 10, by default, has permission to report a huge amount of data back to Microsoft. By clicking through "Express Settings" during installation, you allow Windows 10 to gather up your contacts, calendar details, text and touch input, location data, and a whole lot more. The OS then sends it all back to Microsoft so that it can be used for personalisation and targeted ads. This isn't entirely unusual: recent versions of Windows, unless you explicitly say otherwise, have reported some kind of data back to Microsoft. Windows 10 definitely goes one step (well, a few ...

Finnish Politician Openly Opposes Multiculturalism, Gov’t Goes Nuts

The Finns Party, which gained ground in the most recent elections, has thrown the Nordic nation into turmoil after one of its MP’s openly denounced multiculturalism. A Finnish member of parliament has come under fire for a comment he made over the weekend decrying the “nightmare called multiculturalism” and rallying his compatriots to fight for “one true Finnish nation.” The MP, Olli Immonen, is a member of the populist and nationalist Finns Party, which is part of the country’s governing coalition. In a posting on his Facebook page late Friday night, Immonen said he is “dreaming of a strong, brave nation that will defeat this nightmare called ...

Balding Gracefully: Tips and Hairstyles for Balding Men

You’re noticing more hair in your sink and in your shower. But for awhile you ignore it. Then one day you’re staring at your ugly mug in the mirror, and there’s simply no denying it anymore. You’re starting to go bald. No one has ever referred to men’s hair as our “crowning glory,” but hair loss can still be a big psychological blow to men. For many, it’s likely the first sign they’re getting old. Baldness is a subtle reminder that one’s youthful glory days are slowly slipping away. And it can make a man feel less confident and attractive. Feeling blindsided by their traitorous scalp and missing their old hair, some men can get stuck in ...

Who knows about Kindles? [Full Thread]

Okay. My mom (81 years old) has been a very avid reader ever since the sun burst into flames. So about once a week she goes to, yes, the library. She likes mystery, history and romance. Decades ago I bought her every Agatha Christie novel that I thought she had not read. (I missed on a few - she HAD read them.) Nonetheless - I think - for either her birthday or Christmas - I am going to buy her a Kindle. Being an avid reader as she is - she is the perfect candidate for one. Anyone know anything about these cute little beasties? Any help would be appreciated!

McVeigh defense archive shows bomber viewed blast as failure [Full Thread]

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Timothy McVeigh considered the bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building 20 years ago somewhat of a failure, viewed himself as a "Paul Revere-type messenger" and even suggested his defense team should receive $800,000 from the government, according an archive of documents donated by the convicted bomber's lead attorney. The estimated 1 million pages of paper documents from Stephen Jones now fill 550 file cabinet-sized boxes at the Briscoe Center for American History at the University of Texas, where the Enid, Oklahoma, attorney received his undergraduate degree. The trove, delivered to the school in three phases since 1998, only became fully ...

How do you dismantle a nuclear submarine?
Post Date: 2015-03-30 09:35:25 by Willie Green

Nuclear submarines have long been a favourite in popular fiction. From movies such as The Hunt for Red October to long-running TV series like Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, they have always been portrayed as awesome instruments of geopolitical power gliding quietly through the gloomy deep on secret, serious missions. But at the end of their useful lives the subs essentially become floating nuclear hazards, fizzing with lethal, spent nuclear fuel that's extremely hard to get out. Nuclear navies have had to go to extraordinary lengths to cope with their bloated and ageing Cold War fleets of hunter-killer and ballistic missile nuclear subs. As a result, some of the strangest industrial ...

See Inside the Tiny House That Started The Small Space Trend

Tracy Metro visits the tiny house that started the small-space trend. Poster Comment:Lately I've been watching Tiny House Nation on our cable TV. They come up with some very interesting and clever ways to efficiently utilize very small space. Of course you have to be an extremely well organized neat-freak to avoid it quickly becoming a totally disheveled pig-sty. But it's an interesting contrast to the wasteful McMansions that were built during the housing boom of the '90s.

Disaster Prep Wednesday: The Useful Sterno Stove

When the power goes out and it's cold and icy outside, it's nice to have several cans of denatured and jellied alcohol about. These are most readily available under the Sterno brand name. For about 24 dollars, you can buy a six pack of 7 ounce Sterno cans from Amazon. That's about 12 hours worth of cooking time A single burner Sterno stove will set you back about $9. The cans and the folding stove take up very little space in your emergency bin. The shelf life of unopened Sterno is several years, so you can store it and forget it for the most part, though you might want to check out a can every 2 or 3 years. Replacements can be purchased almost every where - Target, WalMart, ...

Texas man arrested after attempt to pay taxes with tightly folded dollar bills

A Texas man was arrested last month after he refused to leave the county tax office while attempting to pay his property tax using tightly folded $1 bills. An arrest affidavit indicates Timothy Andrew Norris, 27, was asked by a tax collector to leave the Wichita County building on Jan. 28 for disrupting the operations of the office. The Wichita Falls Times Record News reported Norris was attempting to pay a $600 property tax using the $1 bills. The paper reported that the bills were so tightly folded, it "required tax office personnel approximately six minutes to unfold each bill." The affidavit says Norris pulled away from a deputy who was attempting to place him in handcuffs. He ...

It was an hour into her shift when Lindsay Jones, a pastry chef at Denver’s Azucar Bakery, turned her attention from the full lobby to the “older, professional-looking” gentleman who’d just walked in. There was nothing strange in his demeanor as he sidled up to the counter to place an order. In fact, he was friendly and his request for a Bible-shaped cake seemed simple enough. Azucar’s owner, Marjorie Silva, tells Out Front that her employees are no strangers to Christian-themed requests and regularly fill them. “We make [Christian-themed] cakes all the time,” she says. “No problem at all.” The gentleman took a seat at one of the tables as the ...

Good Morning everyone my name is Devil Anse and I have been graciously invited by A K A Stone to be a part of this forum. To hopefully help him make this the best forum of its kind around, make it the funnest one around, a place where you enjoy going and having cordial discourse with others. It seems one of the other forums is closing down because of the death of its owner and quite a few of you are looking to make this place your new home. This means most of you already know each other quite well and desire a place to maintain those old friendships; this is what I hope to accomplish. It also means there could be some hard feelings between posters because of things that were said in the ...

Rules For Successful Speeding

We all do it – and that includes the cops who spend their days giving us tickets for doing it. Of course, they enjoy legal impunity to speed as much as they like, as often as they like. “Speed” only “kills,” it seems, when one is not wearing a special costume. At any rate, since we all drive faster than the posted speed limit, at least occasionally – even Clovers – it seems right and proper that we do what we can to avoid being dunned for doing it. And feel no moral guilt about practicing such avoidance. Our ancestors felt no moral guilt about doing their damnedest to ignore the Volstead Act – and avoid the clutches of the “Prohees” ...
