The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission and some in the wireless industry have come out against a proposal for the government to build the next generation wireless network. The Trump Administration is reportedly considering such a nationwide initiative, in part to prevent infiltration by China. The Trump national security team is in the early stages of deciding whether or not to build and operate a super-fast nationwide 5G wireless network, said a senior administration official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he wasnt authorized to discuss internal deliberations on a national security issue.A presentation recently made by a senior National ...
Ex-NSA hacker created a tool to identify white supremacists online Post Date: 2018-01-05 10:17:58 by Willie Green

In 2016, researchers found more than 900 hate groups operating in the US, with over 100 of them having a presence on Twitter.Twitter has declared a ban on them and last month the purge began. But Twitter also got heat for doing it wrong when it banned a satire site.Ex-NSA analyst Emily Crose has been single-handedly trying to make this problem easier to solve by developing an AI system that identifies "dog whistle" images. Twitter and Facebook say hate speech is a violation of their policies but they also say it can be hard to identify who is engaged in bona fide hate speech and who isn't. Twitter demonstrated the problem earlier this week when it came under ...
Cybersecurity experts warn, sex robots could be hacked to murder people Post Date: 2018-01-02 06:01:30 by Deckard

Sex pleasure may turn into murder. The debate on the promise and terror in artificial intelligence will likely heat up in 2018, as the technology and application of AI sees more traction and adoption.Tweet One area where promise (sexual promise) for AI has caught the attention of many is in the sex industry
specifically sex robots. As with everything tech, the benefits that sex robots have the potential to provide, are now being weighed against many negatives
and those negatives can be life threatening. Like smartphones, and smart cars
robots will need an operating system that will need to be connected to the Internet, meaning hackers can certainly take control of such ...

Hard. 2017 is no exception. You probably already know the top two choices: Based on more than five million leaked passwords, they are 123456 and password. There are also some new additions this year, including starwars, monkey, iloveyou, whatever, and freedom, to name a few. Most aptly, perhaps, is the new addition letmein, and most ironically includes trustno1. A password is marked as new by SplashData if it ...

Imagine a judge forcing you to be jailed, sorry I meant hospitalized, because a computer program found your comment(s) troubling. You can stop imagining, this is really happening. A recent TechCrunch article warns that Facebooks Proactive Detection artificial intelligence (A.I.) will use pattern recognition to contact first responders. The A.I. will contact first responders, if they deem a persons comment[s] to have troubling suicidal thoughts. Facebook also will use AI to prioritize particularly risky or urgent user ...

Facebook banned them. That didnt stop their mischief. Since 1994, Charles Stamps has organized the MLK Grande Parade, an annual march in Houston. But right now, the January event is getting an unusual signal boost: from BlackMattersUS.com, a website that largely looks like a hub of racial-justice activism but is in fact the creation of Kremlin-funded trolls who attempted to intensify heated American issues during the 2016 election and have continued to do so in the year since. I think its a load of BS. My name is Charlesits not comrade, Stamps told me Monday when I called him, informing him for the first time that BlackMattersUS was promoting his event. ...

Coinhive harnesses the resources of 500 million people with no questions asked. The Internet is awash with covert crypto currency miners that bog down computers and even smartphones with computationally intensive math problems called by hacked or ethically questionable sites. The latest examples came on Monday with the revelation from antivirus provider Trend Micro that at least two Android apps with as many as 50,000 downloads from Google Play were recently caught putting crypto miners inside a hidden browser window. The miners caused phones running the apps to run JavaScript hosted on Coinhive.com, a site that harnesses the CPUs of millions of PCs to mine the Monero crypto currency. In ...

Dan Goodin - 10/20/2016, 3:20 PM Ars Technica A serious vulnerability that has been present for nine years in virtually all versions of the Linux operating system is under active exploit, according to researchers who are advising users to install a patch as soon as possible. While CVE-2016-5195, as the bug is cataloged, amounts to a mere privilege-escalation vulnerability rather than a more serious code-execution vulnerability, there are several reasons many researchers are taking it extremely seriously. ...
The internet belongs to the world, not to Ted Cruz Post Date: 2016-09-21 08:52:40 by Willie Green

Congressional Republicans have recently taken a new hostage in their never-ending stream of threats to shut down the government. This time, their target is the transfer of control of usually unseen clerical functions that keep the internet working. Somehow this arcane transition has become one of the major hurdles to funding the government. So how did we get here? The story actually started two decades ago when the federal government announced that it would step away from running the technical functions of the internet. Since then the Department of Commerce, under the watch of three Presidents, including administrations of both parties, has been living up to this commitment. The ...

Voting is partially a social endeavor, in which people consider the opinions of others when making up their own minds. Increasingly, though, they're being influenced by an inhuman force: software robots specifically designed to deceive them.Lest democracy be undermined, humans need help in distinguishing their brethren from the bots. Two years ago, in a report filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the social networking site Twitter estimated that more than 23 million of its active user accounts were being run by bots -- software agents or bits of code that act on their own to respond to news and world events. They interact with real users, never revealing ...
