WASHINGTON (AP) - The Bush administration has decided to extend special temporary U.S. residency for Central Americans for another 12 months, a spokeswoman for Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen said Wednesday. The decision means hundreds of thousands of Central Americans would not have to return home when their Temporary Protected Status ends next month. Alex Cruz, a press aide to Ros-Lehtinen, said the administration plans to officially announce the decision Friday, but Ros-Lehtinen announced it in a news release on Wednesday after she was informed of the decision by the White House. A written report from Secret Service agents guarding Vice President Dick Cheney when he shot Texas lawyer Harry Whittington on a hunting outing two weeks ago says Cheney was "clearly inebriated" at the time of the shooting. Agents observed several members of the hunting party, including the Vice President, consuming alcohol before and during the hunting expedition, the report notes, and Cheney exhibited "visible signs" of impairment, including slurred speech and erratic actions, the report said. ROSAMOND, Calif. (AP) - A teacher who castrated a live pig in front of her high school class is the target of protests by animal rights activists throughout the country. The protests began after People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals posted information about the incident at Rosamond High School on its Web site last month.
