I am looking for volunteers to piss on the grave of the former president. He is getting older and will someday die of natural causes. So I want to get a group of 365 people. Each person would be assigned a day to go and piss on the old mans grave. In the future we can add W. to the list of graves that need to be pissed on daily.

WASHINGTON (AP) - A defiant President Bush warned Democrats Tuesday to accept his offer to have top aides testify about the firings of federal prosecutors only privately and not under oath or risk a constitutional showdown from which he would not back down. Democrats' response to his proposal was swift and firm: They said they would start authorizing subpoenas as soon as Wednesday for the White House aides. "Testimony should be on the record and under oath. That's the formula for true accountability," said Patrick Leahy, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Bush, in a late-afternoon statement at the White House, said, "We will not go along with a partisan ...
Watergate plotter may have a last tale Post Date: 2007-03-20 07:56:35 by A K A Stone

EUREKA, CALIF. Howard St. John Hunt remembers the night of the Watergate break-in as a bonding experience with his father. A sweating and disheveled E. Howard Hunt roused his 19-year-old son from a dead sleep to help him wipe fingerprints from the burglars' radios and pack the surveillance equipment into a suitcase. Then, father and son raced to a remote Maryland bridge, where they heaved the evidence into the Potomac River just before dawn on June 17, 1972. ADVERTISEMENT "From that point on I felt relevant in his life, that I was the one he could count on," said Howard St. John Hunt, now 52, who is called St. John. It also was a turning point for St. John's ...

CINCINNATI - The Dukes of Hazzard are getting driven out of town over the Confederate imagery in their good ol' TV show. ADVERTISEMENT The stars of the series, John Schneider and Tom Wopat, have segued into musical careers since the show ended production in 1985. Schneider says the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra canceled a planned "Dukes"-themed appearance after contracts were signed because some in the community found the show racist and offensive. "It's a huge shock to me that in this day and age people could be so narrow-minded, especially professional people," Schneider said Friday. Although he didn't want to start a feud over the decision, "I would ...

Under pressure from state investigators, Best Buy is now confirming my reporting that its stores have a secret intranet site that has been used to block some consumers from getting cheaper prices advertised on http://BestBuy.com. Company spokesman Justin Barber, who in early February denied the existence of the internal website that could be accessed only by employees, says his company is "cooperating fully" with the state attorney general's investigation. Barber insists that the company never intended to mislead customers. State Attorney General Richard Blumenthal ordered the investigation into Best Buy's practices on Feb. 9 after my column disclosed the website and ...

Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), chair of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, announced today the presentation of bills that would reverse "problematic parts of the Military Commissions Act," according to a statement released by Harman's office. U.S. attorney's firing may be connected to CIA corruption probe Post Date: 2007-03-19 07:42:09 by A K A Stone

WASHINGTON - Fired San Diego U.S. attorney Carol Lam notified the Justice Department that she intended to execute search warrants on a high-ranking CIA official as part of a corruption probe the day before a Justice Department official sent an e-mail that said Lam needed to be fired, U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein said Sunday. Feinstein, D-Calif., said the timing of the e-mail suggested that Lam's dismissal may have been connected to the corruption probe. Justice Department spokesman Brian Roehrkasse denied in an e-mail that there was any link. "We have stated numerous times that no U.S. attorney was removed to retaliate against or inappropriately interfere with any public ...
Speech by elder President Bush invites comparison with son Post Date: 2007-03-13 23:12:56 by A K A Stone

Former President George H.W. Bush spent a significant part of his speech in Los Angeles on Monday night talking of his love of family and his pride in the son who currently occupies the White House. Yet as the 82-year-old former chief executive recounted his own years as president, the tale of how he governed stood in marked contrast (no doubt unintentionally) to what critics--a few of whom were in the audience--say are the official ways of his beleaguered son. Enumerating the crises and triumphs of his term--among them the successful coalition-building before the Gulf War, the fall of the Berlin Wall and the passage of the Clean Air Act--Bush extolled the virtues of strength moderated by ...
Spying Too Secret For Your Court: AT&T, Gov Tell Ninth Post Date: 2007-03-13 14:02:04 by A K A Stone

AT&T told an appeals court in a written brief Monday that the case against it for allegedly helping the government spy on its customers should be thrown out, because it cannot defend itself -- even by showing a signed order from the government -- without endangering national security. A government brief filed simultaneously backed AT&T's claims and said a lower court judge had exceeded his authority by not dismissing the suit outright. Because plaintiffs' entire action rests upon alleged secret espionage activities, including an alleged secret espionage relationship between AT&T and the Government concerning the alleged activities, this suit must be dismissed now as a ...

SANTA FE, New Mexico (Reuters) - New Mexico outlawed cockfighting on Monday in a victory for animal welfare groups, leaving Louisiana as the last state in the country where the controversial practice is legal. "I am proud that New Mexico will now move beyond cockfighting and join the 48 states that have already banned this outdated practice," said Gov. Bill Richardson after signing the bill. Cockfighting involves roosters with razors tied to their claws battling often to the death with spectators placing bets on the outcome of each contest. Australian toll road giant Macquarie agreed Wednesday to purchase forty local newspapers, primarily in Texas and Oklahoma, for $80 million. Macquarie Bank is Australia's largest capital raising firm and has invested billions in purchasing roads in the US, Canada and UK. Most recently the company joined with Cintra Concesiones of Spain in a controversial 75-year lease of the 157-mile Indiana Toll Road. Sal Costello, the leading opponent of toll road projects as head of the Texas Toll Party, says the move is directly related to a 4000-mile toll road project known as the Trans-Texas Corridor. It will cost between $145 and $183 billion to construct the road, expected to be up to 1200 feet ...
Judge warns of child-abusing homeschoolers Post Date: 2007-03-10 12:48:48 by A K A Stone

A Superior Court judge in New Jersey says homeschooling is just about the same as deliberate child abuse. In fact, he says, he just might name a school district in his state as a defendant in a current court dispute, citing the district's "shocking" failure to monitor and test all students including homeschoolers. "In today's threatening world, where we seek to protect children from abuse, not just physical, but also educational abuse, how can we not monitor the educational welfare of all our children? A child in New Jersey, who recently was found unfed and locked in a putrid bedroom was allegedly 'homeschooled' and because no one, such as a teacher ...

MIAMI, Fla. (AP) -- The videotape of intelligence agents' final interrogation of al Qaeda suspect Jose Padilla is missing, raising questions about whether federal prosecutors have lost other tapes and evidence as the case finally nears trial. Padilla's defense attorneys have said they believe there is something on the classified tape related to their contention that Padilla does not trust them and thinks they may be government agents themselves. The tape of the March 2, 2004, interrogation at a Navy jail in Charleston, S.C., may contain "information that was conveyed to Mr. Padilla by agents of the government which directly impacts upon his relationship with his ...
The Pentagon’s Power to Arrest, Torture, and Execute Americans Post Date: 2007-03-09 21:05:33 by A K A Stone

The president and the Pentagon now wield the omnipotent power to arrest, torture, and execute any American they label an enemy combatant. It is impossible to overstate the significance of this power. It has totally upended the relationship of the military and civilian in the United States. The assumption of this particular power easily constitutes one of the most monumental revolutions of liberty and power in history. It is a revolution that every American must confront now, not later. If people wait until later to confront the expanded use of this power, it will be too late, because by that time it will be too dangerous to do so. As long as this particular power is permitted ...

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Inmates in South Carolina could soon find that a kidney is worth 180 days. Lawmakers are considering legislation that would let prisoners donate organs or bone marrow in exchange for time off their sentences. A state Senate panel on Thursday endorsed creating an organ-and-tissue donation program for inmates. But legislators postponed debate on a measure to reduce the sentences of participating prisoners, citing concern that federal law may not allow it. "I think it's imperative that we go all out and see what we can do," said the bills' chief sponsor, Democratic Sen. Ralph Anderson. "I would like to see us get enough donors that people are no ...

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A federal appeals court overturned the District of Columbia's long- standing handgun ban Friday, rejecting the city's argument that the Second Amendment right to bear arms applied only to militias. In a 2-1 decision, the judges held that the activities protected by the Second Amendment "are not limited to militia service, nor is an individual's enjoyment of the right contingent upon his or her continued intermittent enrollment in the militia." A lower-court judge in 2004 had told six residents they did not have a constitutional right to own handguns. The plaintiffs include residents of high-crime neighborhoods who wanted the guns for protection. ...

Keith Ellison, a Democrat from Minnesota, was sworn in as the nation57;s first Muslim member of Congress in early January, but he is not the highest-ranking Muslim official in the United States. That honor belongs to Vice President Dick Cheney, who during one of his many trips to Saudi Arabia in the 1990s on behalf of Halliburton secretly converted to Wahabbi Islam, a rigorous fundamentalist version of the faith. In 1997, according to sources in Riyadh, Cheney visited the dusty provincial town of Bakh-Asward, a Wahabbi stronghold, where he realized he had found exactly what he was looking for, a religion that was grim, rancorous, authoritarian, and violent, and yet, on the other hand, ...

I am honored to represent nearly 19 million New Yorkers, a thoughtful democracy of voices and opinions who make themselves heard on the great issues of our day especially this one. Many have contacted my office about this resolution, both in support of and in opposition to it, and I am grateful to all who have expressed an opinion.
I also greatly respect the differing opinions within this body. The debate they engender will aid our search for a wise, effective policy. ...
