The Libertarian Party of Kentucky today reiterated that they are the party of acceptance. Liberty, freedom, and true economic prosperity cannot exist in a system which institutionalizes racism, bigotry, or other kinds of unfounded hatred, said Ken Moellman, Chairman and Northern Kentucky native. Theres been a lot of talk, trying to associate Libertarians with racism in the past month. Its important to remind people that liberty and racism are incompatible. A political race leading to a taxpayer-funded primary within another political party has seen one candidate accuse another of being both a Libertarian and a racist. As head of the membership ...

An al Qaeda bomber stashing explosives in his underwear cakewalked onto a US-bound airliner after averting scans on two continents -- but the federal Homeland Security chief incredibly claimed yesterday that "everything happened that should have." "This was one individual literally of thousands that fly and thousands of flights every year," said Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, who called flying "very, very safe." "And he was stopped before any damage could be done . . . Once this incident occurred, everything happened that should have." Napolitano's all-is-well assessment ran counter to that of her boss, President Obama, who ...

At the same time, some of the most secretive Special Operations commandos have begun training Yemeni security forces in counterterrorism tactics, senior military officers said. The Pentagon is spending more than $70 million over the next 18 months, and using teams of Special Forces, to train and equip Yemeni military, Interior Ministry and coast guard forces, more than doubling ...

WASHINGTON (AP) - The explosive device used by the would-be Detroit bomber contained a widely available - and easily detected - chemical explosive that has a long history of terrorist use, according to government officials and explosive experts. The chemical - PETN - is small, powerful and appealing to terrorists. The Saudi government said it was used in an assassination attempt on the country's counterterrorism operations chief in August. It was also a component of the explosive that Richard Reid, the convicted "shoe bomber," used in his 2001 attempt to down an airliner. PETN was widely used in the plastic explosives terrorists used to blow up airplanes in the 1970s and ...

The area has received more than a foot of snow. Just two of the sheriff's department's vehicles have four-wheel drive, so rescuers used their own pickups and the heavy five-ton brush trucks that are normally used to fight fires. Many of the motorists who had to be rescued had run out of gas while they were stuck in traffic that was stalled by the storm. Even residents of the Dallas-Fort Worth area saw a white ...

Black pack attacks 13 year old, breaks the bones of his face, threaten his eyesight (Note 12-23 11:30 a.m. A reader has just told me that all the readers' comments at the CBS page have been removed. Fortunately I had copied most of them here yesterday. This is a further lesson that when we see something on the Web of an unusual nature, we should save or copy it.) The crime is reported by CBS News. Notice, with the exception of the headline, the low key manner of the story. This extreme attack took place, but there is zero description of it, except that they "beat up the eighth-grader leaving him severely injured, and he may even lose his sight," and they "jumped ...

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) An Anchorage judge will likely wait until 2010 before deciding whether state public records law governs the e-mail messages that former Gov. Sarah Palin and her top administration officials sent to one another outside of the state's computer network. Andree McLeod of Anchorage has been seeking copies of the messages. She says in a lawsuit that Palin and her officials violated the public records law by using off-the-record networks to discuss matters of public concern. Assistant Attorney General Michael Mitchell on Tuesday asked state Superior Court Judge Patrick McKay to dismiss the case. McKay took the motion under advisement and said he will probably make ...

Norton wins over Tea Partiers with call to eliminate Department of Education Post Date: 2009-12-23 22:45:26 by A K A Stone

Former Lt. Governor Jane Norton said she was spurred to try to win Colorado Democrat Michael Bennets U.S. Senate seat by what she sees as the dramatic expansion of government in the Obama era. In stump speeches, emails and interviews, she has vowed to work to cut federal spending as a way to end the government takeover of the private sector. One of the ways Norton proposes to trim spending is to eliminate the federal Department of Education. That dramatic proposal has predictably shocked members of the left-leaning Colorado politics-blogosphere, but it also surprised at least one conservative member of the small crowd gathered two weeks ago at the Lamplighter restaurant in ...

Guantanamo prison may have to stay open until 2011 By LARRY MARGASAK (AP) 1 hour ago WASHINGTON The Guantanamo Bay prison may not close until 2011 because it will take months for the federal government to buy an Illinois prison and upgrade it to hold suspected terrorists. Congress must first appropriate money for the takeover of the Thomson Correctional Center and the necessary construction. Lawmakers wary of moving detainees from the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, military base into the United States could balk at approving the funds. In the Senate, there's always the chance of delaying tactics that could hold up the money for months. Congress also needs to change a law ...

Families struggling in the midst of a deep recession who earn a combined total greater than $88,200 and dont have their health care covered by their employer will be hit with a mandatory annual fee of about $15,000 according to the Congressional Budget Offices analysis of the final Senate Obamacare bill. As we highlighted yesterday, the health care bill would introduce a raft of new taxes that would inevitably lead to higher costs that would be passed on to the public. A Boston Globe analysis revealed that there were at least 19 new taxes contained in the legislation which is set to be passed on Christmas Eve. On top of this, a CBO analysis identifies five facts about the bill ...
