A shotgun-wielding owner of a Harlem restaurant-supply company blasted two robbers to death and wounded two others on Thursday when he caught them pistol-whipping his employee, police said.
Turning the tables on the brutish bandits, 72-year-old Charles (Gus) Augusto opened fire with a 12-gauge shotgun he kept handy for such occasions, cops and witnesses said.
"He's been robbed before, so I'm not totally amazed," said Stefany Blyn, who rents a space above the store from Augusto.
"They ran into some tough stuff today," witness Vernon McKenzie, 48, said of the stickup men, including one whose bloody corpse was splayed on the sidewalk in front of Augusto's store on W. 125th St. near ...

Political handicapper Charlie Cook said that it was "very hard to come up with a scenario where Democrats don't lose the House" in an interview with National Journal late last week. Cook, who, in the interest of full disclosure, gave the Fix our first job in political Washington, went on to note that while House Republicans have their fair share of problems but "you could triple the Republican Party's problems and I'd still rather have their problems than the problems facing Democrats." Cook has, of late, been extremely down on Democrats' chances -- an attitude born, he argued in the interview, of "fundamental, total miscalculations from the very, ...

In findings that appear to paint a darker employment picture than official U.S. data, Gallup estimated that about 30 million Americans are underemployed, meaning either jobless or able to find only part-time work. Underemployed people spent 36 percent less on household purchases than their fully employed neighbors in January, while six out of 10 were not hopeful about their chances of finding adequate work in the coming month, the poll said. Gallup surveyed more than 20,000 U.S. adults ...

Rush has stepped into the foray of conservative voices attacking Becks speech. He is criticizing Beck for beating down Republicans, and of course he doesnt call him out by name, but we know. I really think Beck is misunderstood by Rush, Levin, Bennett, and the like. Hes not criticizing the Marco Rubios of the party. Instead hes criticizing the establishment and the leadership. Ive already countered this idea here this morning and dont need to do it again. Take a listen:
