All You Need To Know About Bank Balance-Sheet Fraud

All You Need To Know About Bank Balance-Sheet Fraud I am constantly amused by those people who claim there is some vast "conspiracy" in this country when it comes to banks, balance sheets, and fraudulent lending and accounting. There is no conspiracy. It is, in fact, "in your face" fraud. The FDIC does us the courtesy of explaining it virtually every Friday night, right on their web page. I am simply going to take last night's bank closures, which numbered four. One of them has no "deposit insurance fund" estimated loss available, because they didn't find someone to take the assets - they're just mailing checks. But the other three do. ...

'Peak Oil Demand,' Yes... But Not the Nice Kind Why There Will Be No Recovery By Chris Nelder Friday, March 5th, 2010 When oil crossed $120 a barrel for the first time in May 2008, oil cornucopians knew they were in trouble... Prices had quadrupled in just five years, yet had failed to bring new production online. Regular crude had flatlined around 74 million barrels per day (mbpd). The case for peak oil was looking stronger with every new uptick in crude futures. The following month, prominent peak oil critic and cornucopian Daniel Yergin of IHS-CERA changed his stance: The peak oil threat would be neutralized by peak demand. Gasoline consumption had peaked in the U.S. and ...

Oh, that's $1.4 trillion more than their last guess, mostly on lower tax collections (no really?) Here's the problem with this new CBO number - it more than doubles the public Treasury debt float over the next nine years. It also "predicts" that China and other investors will increase their holdings of US Government debt from their current $7.5 trillion (the current marketable paper) to $20.3 ...

Nevertheless, Obama's numbers are down from 58 percent in June.

The cumulative deficits would total $9.76 trillion, and debt held by the public would amount to 90 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product by 2020, the CBO said. By Rebecca Christie March 5 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. economy remains under strain even though the labor market is showing signs of improvement, said Alan Krueger, assistant Treasury secretary for economic policy. The Labor Department report that U.S. employers cut 36,000 jobs last month was “better than expected” given the snowstorms that kept a million workers at home in mid-February, Krueger said today in a briefing with reporters in Washington. “The labor market is still facing stresses, though these stresses are easing,” Krueger said. The unemployment rate held steady at 9.7 percent in February. The drop in payrolls was smaller than the 68,000-job fall expected by ...

March 5 (Bloomberg) -- Borrowing by U.S. consumers unexpectedly rose in January for the first time in a year, led by auto loans and indicating Americans are gaining confidence in the economy. Consumer credit increased $5 billion, or 2.4 percent at an annual rate, the Federal Reserve said today in Washington. Borrowing dropped $4.6 billion in December, more than first estimated. The figures track credit card debt and non-revolving loans, including those for automobile purchases. The worst recession since World War II probably ended last year as factories boosted production and government spending programs took hold. The recovery may get a bigger lift from consumer purchases that account ...

Dodge sheriff’s investigators say the girl’s parents made her do “sexual favors” for the manager of Shorty’s Used Cars in Eastman so they wouldn’t have to make the $281 payment on the 1998 Dodge Caravan they bought two years ago. The allegations surfaced after a months-long investigation into the girl’s welfare that began last summer. “It makes me personally sick to my stomach,” Dodge sheriff’s Capt. Tony Winborn ...
