A Toyota Prius accelerated out of control on a busy California freeway on Monday before police intervened to bring the vehicle to a standstill, police said. James Sikes, 61, was driving on the busy Interstate 8 freeway outside San Diego when he noticed his car was starting to accelerate of its own accord, the California Highway Patrol said. The terrified motorist was helpless as the car hurtled out of control along the road at speeds more than 90 miles per hour. However Sikes was able to call police, and officers using a loudspeaker were talked the driver through the process of slowing down by using his emergency brake and then turning off the engine. Police then pulled in front of the ...
Ken Starr: Liz Cheney’s Attack On DOJ Lawyers 'Out Of Bounds’ Post Date: 2010-03-09 12:53:57 by Brian S

Ken Starr has joined a list of prominent conservative attorneys to step up and rebuff Liz Cheney's recent attack campaign against Justice Department lawyers.Cheney's political advocacy group "Keep America Safe" last week launched an ad suggesting that a number of Justice Department officials are terrorist sympathizers for having represented detainees during the Bush administration. The spot labels them the "Al-Qaeda 7" and questions their "values.""This was very unwise, and really an out-of-bounds characterization and challenge to good, honorable lawyers," Starr said in his first-ever appearance on MSNBC's Countdown With Keith Olbermann. ...

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is helping out her former running mate with a high dollar fundraiser at the Arizona Biltmore. Palin will be courting contributions for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) the GOPs 2008 presidential nominee on March 23 as part of her swing through Arizona to aide his re-election campaign. For $2,500, McCain donors can attend an hour-long reception with the former GOP vice presidential nominee and get a chance for a picture with Palin. Those not attending the reception can pay $500 each for a two-hour dinner, or $1,000 for preferred seating. Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), along with Arizona GOP Reps. Jeff Flake, Trent Franks and John Shadegg will also be ...
Moderate Dem Rethinks Position On Health Bill Post Date: 2010-03-09 12:25:58 by Brian S

(03-09) 07:39 PST WASHINGTON, (AP) -- A moderate Democrat who had vowed to oppose any effort by party leaders to push a health care bill through the Senate with a simple majority vote is rethinking her position. Sen. Blanche Lincoln said Tuesday that she wants to see what is in the companion bill before deciding. Democratic leaders are looking at a two-step approach in which the House approves a Senate-passed bill from last year, despite House Democrats' opposition to several of its provisions. Both houses then would follow by approving a companion measure to make changes in that first bill. Weeks ago, Lincoln had said she opposed that approach. One of the more endangered ...

Yesterday almost was the greatest day in the history of Palin Derangement Syndrome. A deep, dark secret was revealed: When Palin was a child in the late 1960s, her family on a few occasions skipped across the border into Canada and ... (wait for it) ... went to the doctor!!! Proof positive that socialized medicine as practiced in Canada is superior to our health care system. Hoorah, Hoorah .... Obamacare, Obamacare!. But wait. As reported by Ben Smith, it is not clear why the Palins went to Canada, and it may have been that they were living in a very remote area of Alaska so the geography of crossing the border worked. Oh. And then, as "updated" by Smith, the medical system in ...
Quick Get Dan Rather's Obama Watermelon Comments Off the News: There is a Racial Crisis at Walmart with Barbie Dolls Post Date: 2010-03-09 10:55:08 by dont eat that

Dan Rather stuck his foot in his mouth over the weekend connect Obama to watermelon. In case you missed it, Rather said Obama couldnt sell watermelons on the side of the road with the highway patrol directing traffic into his stand. I think its quite easy to point out the stereotype Obama used to make his comment about Obamas failure to lead. I find it interesting we have a bigger racial problem in this country than a liberal journalist who stuck his foot in his mouth with a stereotype. Black Barbie is being sold for half the cost of white Barbie at Walmart. ABC is demanding answers from Arkansas. The darker skinned Theresa doll was marked for clearance while the white ...
Sea lions killed for eating too many salmon Post Date: 2010-03-09 10:08:01 by mininggold

Sea lions killed for eating too many salmon PORTLAND, Ore. Wildlife officials have tried everything to keep sea lions from eating endangered salmon, dropping bombs that explode under water and firing rubber bullets and bean bags from shotguns and boats. Now they are resorting to issuing death sentences to the most chronic offenders. A California sea lion last week became the first salmon predator to be euthanized this year under a program that has been denounced by those who say there are far greater dangers to salmon including the series of hydroelectric dams on the Columbia. This is the second year of the program, which is administered by wildlife officials in Oregon and ...
Box-of-Rocks for Brains Barry H. Obama Confuses Decades, Inflates Estimated ObamaCare Savings by $868B Post Date: 2010-03-09 08:53:25 by Happy Quanzaa

Obama boasted Monday that Democrats' health care proposals would cut deficits by $1 trillion "over the next decade," a flub that inflated the actual estimate by $868 billion. President Obama, making his final push for health care reform, pitched his proposal Monday to a crowd in Pennsylvania with a deficit-reduction figure that the White House later admitted missed the mark. "Our cost-cutting measures mirror most of the proposals in the current Senate bill, which reduces most people's premiums and brings down our deficit by up to $1 trillion dollars over the next decade because we're spending our health care dollars more wisely," Obama told an audience at ...
Dan Rather: 'Articulate' Obama Couldn't Even 'Sell Watermelons' Post Date: 2010-03-09 08:29:41 by Happy Quanzaa

HDNet's Dan Rather stepped on one mine after another in the racial minefield that exists when talking about the nation's first black President as the former CBS anchor, on the syndicated Chris Matthews Show over the weekend, uttered the following take on the President's ability to get health care passed and how the GOP and independents would view it. [audio available here] DAN RATHER: Part of the undertow in the coming election is going to be President Obama's leadership. And the Republicans will make a case and a lot of independents will buy this argument. "Listen he just hasn't been, look at the health care bill. It was his number one priority. It took him ...

Lets see how well this one follows the Palin scandal template. Step one: Some provocative yet murky detail emerges about something she said or did. In this case, thatd be her admission that as a kid her family once crossed the border to seek medical care for her brother in Canada. Step two: The media assumes the worst and beams out the shocking allegations. Can it be true? Americas conservative champion bypassing the 45-minute trip to Anchorage so that her brother could indulge in some freebie socialized medicine 15 hours away? Step three: The truth. First, the full quote from her speech: My first five years of life we spent in Skagway, Alaska, right ...
The Successes Of Obama Post Date: 2010-03-08 14:06:15 by dont eat that

One day you're the Savior of the World, the next day even your own party sees you as incompetent. And considering the still-moribund economy, the inept foreign policy (esp. as regards Iran), the massive debt increases, and more, he deserves every bit of that abuse. All the moreso, considering that he lied his way into office, pretending to be a post-partisan centrist while actually planning to turn the US into a European-style welfare-state. (Of course, all contemporary Denocrats running for President play that same game). And yet, even the callow Obama has had his successes. No, it's not a long list, but these are some pretty important items, as Ann Althouse details: 1. By ...

Jackson Health System CEO Eneida Roldan said these layoffs will save Jackson $164 million. But even with these layoffs, Jackson is still $64 million in the hole and only has about 45 days worth of operating cash. These layoffs involve about one third of the hospital's workforce. Also, Jackson plans to close two of its satellite hospitals. Earlier, Roldan had discussed laying off about 900 personnel. But the SEIU agreed to a plan that would reduce or eliminate those ...

Then All At Once By James Howard Kunstler on March 8, 2010 6:58 AM I was plying the interstate highways of New England this weekend -- there is no sane way to get from Albany, New York, to the vicinity of Middletown, Connecticut, by public transit -- marveling at the vistas of normality all around me: the freeway lanes with their orderly streams of happy motorists, the chain stores floating like islands on the gray undulating landscape, the corporate towers of Springfield, Mass, and then Hartford, gleaming in the persistent pre-spring sunshine, as though they physically represented the wished-for dynamism of economies in recovery. "I see dead people..." said the kid in that ...

Barney Frank: The Liar Is (Again) In The House Will this man ever take responsibility for what he does? Many second liens have little value because of the plunge in home prices, Rep. Frank wrote, adding: "Yet because accounting rules allow holders of these seconds to carry the loans at artificially high values, many refuse to acknowledge the losses and write down the loans." How did that happen Mr. Frank? Oh yeah, I remember! Your committee pressured FASB to drop "mark to market" accounting requirements last year! That is, YOU were personally responsible for this crap. Remember the subcommittee hearing chaired by your fool-in-chief Mr. Kanjorski? I remember that ...

Monkeys are getting high for science in North Carolina.
An analyst at the Civitas Institute seized on that image when selecting a cocaine addiction study at Wake Forest University Medical School as No. 1 on a list of the "10 worst federal stimulus projects in North Carolina." Civitas' Brian Balfour takes swipes at projects, writing that they "seem completely unrelated to avoiding an economic 'catastrophe,' but rather an ad hoc satisfaction of countless dubious wish lists."
So, what is the $71,623 federal stimulus grant paying for?
Well, a job, said Mark Wright, a spokesman for the Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
"It's actually the continuation of a job that might not ...

Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay says that Sen. Jim Bunning was "brave" for blocking an extension in unemployment benefits. DeLay subscribes to the notion that people only try to find jobs when their benefits run out. "There is an argument to be made that these extensions, the unemployment benefits, keep people from going and finding jobs," he told CNN's Candy Crowley Sunday. "In fact there are some studies that have been done that show people stay on unemployment compensation and they don't look for a job until two or three weeks before they know the benefits are going to run out," he argued. "People are unemployed because they want to ...
Kansas City Wants To Close Half Its Public Schools Post Date: 2010-03-07 18:02:23 by Brian S

(03-07) 12:54 PST Kansas City, Mo. (AP) -- Kansas City was held up as a national example of bold thinking when it tried to integrate its schools by making them better than the suburban districts where many kids were moving. The result was one school with an Olympic-sized swimming pool and another with recording studios. Now it's on the brink of bankruptcy and considering another bold move: closing nearly half its schools to stay afloat. Schools officials say the cuts are necessary to keep the district from plowing through what little is left of the $2 billion it received as part of a groundbreaking desegregation case. Buffeted for years by declining enrollment, political squabbling ...

Sarah Palin: God wrote on his hand too
At an Ohio Right to Life fundraiser Friday night, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin once again defended the notes she wrote on her hand during last month's Tea Party Convention. She said she didn't have a good answer to media criticism at the time, but now she has one: God did it too.
A supporter sent her the biblical passage Isaiah 49:16: "See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me."
"If what was good enough for God, scribbling on the palm of his hand, it's good enough for me, for us," Palin said. "In that passage he says, I wrote your name on the palm of my hand to remember you. And I'm like ...

ATLANTA A central Georgia couple traded sex with their 14-year-old daughter for payments on their minivan, authorities said. The parents, both 36, are charged with child molestation and pandering, Dodge County sheriffs Capt. Tony Winborn said. The Associated Press does not identify victims of sexual abuse and is not identifying the parents to protect the teen. "Ive seen some terrible crimes committed against children but never to this extent," Winborn said. "Theres no rhyme or reason to it and this girl and this family are forever messed up." The couple bought a minivan from a used car dealership in Eastman, about 140 miles southeast of ...

As Obama tells us daily, he inherited the the crisis of the Great Recession and the War on Terrorism being fought on two fronts in both Iraq and Afghanistan. How does the The Liar in Chief respond? Obamamax CREATES another crisis and ignores the three he inherited, except to constantly blame it on Bush. Instead of seeing himself as the luckiest person in history, BO sees himself as a genius. The cult he has surrounded himself with and the Marxists on MSNBC keep saying it, so he believes it. If Obama had to create a health care crisis, he would have been better served by choosing heath care reform over health care expansion. Cost savings over record deficits is what America wants today. ...
