Sealevelgate (ANOTHER IPCC ERROR!) Post Date: 2010-03-11 11:42:38 by go65

Imagine this. In its latest report, the IPCC has predicted up to 3 meters of sea level rise by the end of this century. But climate sceptics websites were quick to reveal a few problems (or tricks, as they called it). First, although the temperature scenarios of IPCC project a maximum warming of 6.4 ºC (Table SPM3), the upper limit of sea level rise has been computed assuming a warming of 7.6 ºC. Second, the IPCC chose to compute sea level rise up to the year 2105 rather than 2100 just to add that extra bit of alarmism. Worse, the IPCC report shows that over the past 40 years, sea level has in fact risen 50% less than predicted by its models ...

He says doctors and nurses should make medical decisions, not insurance executives. I agree!, except his plan would replace government bureaucrats for insurance execs. If you do not believe me, read the 2400 page Senate health bill. It is chock full of examples of what treatments and protocols must and must not be offered in health plans. It gives the Secretary of Health and Human Services, the Presidents political appointee, unprecedented authority to decide treatment protocols, not just for plans offered within the insurance exchanges, but for ALL insurance plans offered throughout the United States. If you do not believe me, read the bill! Sarah Palin was ridiculed for claiming the ...
Rep. Ryan’s Tax Roadmap Falls Short of His Revenue Goals Post Date: 2010-03-11 10:20:35 by go65

In his provocative Roadmap for Americas Future, Representative Paul Ryan (R-WI) figures that his broad tax code overhaul would eventually generate about 19 percent of Gross Domestic Product in revenues. But the Ryan plan would produce hundreds of billions of dollars-a-year less than thatabout 16.8 percent of GDPa decade from now, according to new Tax Policy Center estimates. Moreover, the plan would give a huge tax cut to the wealthy, while cutting taxes by little or nothing (and in some cases even raising taxes) for low- and middle-income people. As a result, Ryan would likely fall far short of meeting his goal of balancing the budget and paying off the national debt by ...
It's not getting any easier for Florida's jobless (The Obama Depression) Post Date: 2010-03-11 09:35:41 by dont eat that

Florida's unemployment rate rose to 11.9 percent in January, tying the highest rate ever recorded in the state, and the number of out-of-work Floridians stood at 1.1 million, the state labor department announced Wednesday. Sean Snaith, a University of Central Florida economist, said unemployed people can expect to face even tougher conditions -- and more company -- in coming months as the state slashes more jobs before beginning a slow recovery.

The case of "Jihad Jane" the middle-aged woman from suburban Philadelphia linked to an alleged plot to kill a Swedish cartoonist held to have insulted the prophet Mohamed represents the worst nightmare of US security authorities: a white, female, all-American terrorist. Yesterday more details became available of 46-year-old Colleen LaRose, accused by federal prosecutors in Pennsylvania of conspiring on the internet with overseas-based militants to murder the cartoonist Lars Vilks, proclaiming herself ready to help Muslims and if necessary to become a martyr for the cause of radical Islam. The picture that emerges is of a woman who spent much of her time alone at ...

On October 23, 1983 the Marine Corps Battalion Landing Team (BLT) building located at the Beirut International Airport was blown up. Two hundred twenty Marines, 18 Sailors and 3 Soldiers were killed in a split second by a suicide bomber. I wasn't there at the time. I was participating in Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada. I was a squadron CH-46E helicopter co-pilot in Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 261 (HMM-261) and also the squadron classified materials officer. Being the one who set up the squadron classified messages, I read about it before most others. It was an unbelievable gut punch and breathtaking in a bad way. I did arrive in Lebanon with the rest of HMM-261 about two weeks ...
Bush Among ‘Consequential Presidents’ Post Date: 2010-03-10 18:16:01 by dont eat that

ABC News Aaron Katersky reports: The architect of George W. Bushs presidency today compared his former boss to Harry Truman, whose tenure in office was appreciated far more by the public with the passage of decades. Thats what happens to consequential presidents. In the heat of the moment we make judgments about them, and over time peoples judgments soften and grow, Rove told ABC News Radio. People are starting to revise and revisit their positions on George W. Bush, he said.
American credibility is down under Barack Obama Post Date: 2010-03-10 18:13:23 by dont eat that

The problem now, is ironically for all those people who thought George W. Bush is hurting us in the wider world, American credibility is down since the ascendancy of Barack Obama. The President [Obama] gives speeches overseas, but very little respect. George Bush, a lot of people did not like him, but they knew he meant what he said and he was probably going to follow up with it.

Did you hear about the Iraqi Parliamentary Election? How President Obama, Vice President Biden or any Democrat wants to take any credit for Iraq is galling to say the least. Don't they remember the protests against the last Administration? The Democrats used to believe in Wilsonianianism, under President Bush's father and the Clinton Administration. But when President Bush posited the theory of a Democracy in the Middle East to defeat terrorism, the left turned their back. Some lefty Bloggers will never accept Wilsonianism. I say three cheers for the Iraqis! Democracy is a good thing to spread in this world. President Bush was right.

Senate Passes Jobless Aid, Tax Breaks ($130 Billion Extra Debt) CBS News ^ | March.10, 2010 Posted on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 3:04:26 PM by Reagan Man The U.S. Senate voted Wednesday to extend a host of soon-to-expire elements of last year's economic stimulus measure, including help for the jobless and money to help financially strapped states pay for health care for the poor. The 62-36 vote came over protests from conservatives who say the bill adds too much to the $12.5 trillion national debt. Six Republicans joined all but one Democrat in voting for the bill. The plight of the jobless and the political power of an annual package of tax breaks powered the measure through the ...

If Americans could have a former living U.S. president run the country and deal with the problems facing the nation today, they would pick Bill Clinton by a wide margin, a Newsmax/Zogby poll reveals. Former President Jimmy Carter came in last, garnering just 5 percent of support for his taking charge. The exclusive Newsmax/Zogby poll also found that, if an election took place today between Barack Obama and George W. Bush or Hillary Clinton, Obama would beat both handily. The Newsmax/Zogby poll asked respondents: Of the current living former presidents, which do you think is best equipped to deal with the problems the country faces today? Bill Clinton got 41 percent of the ...

(03-10) 10:44 PST WASHINGTON, (AP) -- Americans have come to detest Congress ever more deeply as it nears the end of a nasty fight over health care. But more than half still back President Barack Obama, a bright spot for a Democratic Party counting on its leader to help stave off expected losses in elections this fall. The latest Associated Press-GfK poll found that fewer people approve of Congress than at any point in Obama's presidency. Support has dropped significantly since January to a dismal 22 percent as the health care debate has roiled Capitol Hill. Neither Republicans nor Democrats are safe; half of all people say they want to fire their congressman. Conversely, Obama's ...

March 10 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. posted its largest budget deficit on record in February as the government boosted spending to help revive the economy. The excess of spending over revenue increased to $221 billion last month, compared with a deficit of $194 billion in February 2009, according to Treasury Department figures released today in Washington. In fiscal 2009 that ended in September, the shortfall reached a record $1.4 trillion. A deficit that will probably exceed $1 trillion for a second year underscores the challenges facing the Obama administration and Congress as they seek to preserve the recovery, spur job growth and pass health care reform. The loss of 8.4 million jobs the ...

I know youre not supposed to, but I just love to say I told you so. What I told you back on Sept. 28, 2008, was that within a year of the day he left office George W. Bush would come to be regarded with affection and a little nostalgia. The responses (over 300 before the comments were closed) to that prediction were overwhelmingly negative; even the very few who agreed with me attributed what they took to be a sad fact to the stupidity of the American people. The other 290 or so said things like No way; Are you kidding?; Are you mad?;What a ridiculous and insulting premise!; Ill miss him like a rash; This must be ...

Thomas Friedman says Bush was right about Iraq Post Date: 2010-03-10 10:43:31 by dont eat that

We havent had the Real Revo Flying Pig out for a while but Thomas Friedmans op ed in the New York Times is flying pig worthy. This from a man who brutally attacked Bush policy throughout the war and called it the babysitting of a civil war. Former President George W. Bushs gut instinct that this region craved and needed democracy was always right. It should have and could have been pursued with much better planning and execution. This war has been extraordinarily painful and costly. But democracy was never going to have a virgin birth in a place like Iraq, which has never known any such thing. I wonder if Dubya reads the Times.

RONALD REAGAN liked to say that there was no limit to what a man could accomplish if he didnt mind who got the credit. The transformation of Iraq from a hellish tyranny into a functioning democracy will be recorded as a signal accomplishment of George W. Bushs presidency, and he probably doesnt mind in the least that the Obama administration would like to take the credit. This weeks parliamentary elections in Iraq brought 12 million voters to the polls - a remarkable 62 percent turnout, notwithstanding a wave of Election Day bombings that killed 38 people. Iraqis are not afraid of bombs anymore, a middle-aged voter named Maliq Bedawi told a New ...

A federal judge in Chicago ruled on Friday that a lawsuit against former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, brought by two Americans who had worked for an Iraqi contractor, can be allowed to proceed. In his ruling (PDF), US District Judge Wayne R. Andersen said the plaintiffs had provided enough concrete evidence of torture to allow the suit to go forward. The judge dismissed Rumsfeld's arguments that his position near the top of the executive branch immunized him from lawsuits involving the authorization of torture, the Associated Press reported.According to court documents, Nathan Ertel and Donald Vance went to Iraq in 2005 to work for an Iraqi contractor, Shield Group Security.
