BULLETIN: DEMS DON'T HAVE THE VOTES [Full Thread]

From a top level source in the House comes the news that the Democrats are still short of the 216 votes they need to pass Obamacare. They have decided, however, to go for broke on Sunday and attempt to pass it whether or not they have enough support. They feel that only by forcing a vote can the force members off the fence. They hope that by employing all means at their disposal, they can round up enough votes for passage. But, if they don't have the votes, they will allow the measure to be defeated. One source called it a "suicide run." The League of American Voters is strengthening its efforts. GO HERE NOW to donate. ...

CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (AP) -- A teachers' union is condeming the actions of a teacher who hung an effigy of President Barack Obama in his classroom. It happened in Rhode Island, at a failing high school where all of the teachers -- including the one who hung the effigy -- had been fired as of the end of the school year. The firings were praised by Obama as an example of holding schools accountable. The school superintendent who found the effigyy tells CNN that it was a foot-tall Obama doll, hanging by its feet, and holding a sign that said, "Fire Central Falls teachers." The president of the Central Falls Teachers Union says the teacher hung the doll "as part of what he ...

Dems Defeat GOP Effort To Force Separate Vote On Senate Health Bill

By Michael O'Brien - 03/18/10 02:28 PM ET Democrats shot down a Republican effort to force an up-or-down vote on the Senate healthcare bill on Thursday afternoon. In a 222-203 vote, Democrats beat back a GOP resolution offered by Democrat-turned-Republican Rep. Parker Griffith (Ala.) that would have forced lawmakers to vote on the Senate healthcare bill separately from the series of fixes they hope to make to that legislation. All Republican lawmakers who voted opposed the measure, which had the effect of ending the GOP's effort to force a vote. They were joined by 28 Democrats, who broke with party members on the vote. 222 Democrats supported the measure, though, meaning ...

Cartoon Network Rates Higher Than CNN, MSNBC Posted by Duane Lester on Mar 18th, 2010 • Clicks Glenn Reynolds says it’s because they have more believable characters. Don Surber says it’s the credibility gap: USA is No. 1, Fox News No. 2, TBS No. 3, TNT No. 4 and the History Channel No. 5. At No. 26 is MSNBC and CNN is No. 32. Over at 13th place, the Cartoon Network is beating both of them. I could see Bugs Bunny working for MSNBC. Now hold on. Before you get yourself all worked up, consider this. When I was a big time D&D nut, I used to argue that Bugs was Chaotic Evil. Yeah, I’m that kind of geek. But think about it: when does Bugs ever help anyone? He ...

WASHINGTON — A federal grand jury reportedly has issued subpoenas in a probe of Sen. John Ensign of Nevada, who has been under scrutiny for his efforts to find lobbying work for the husband of his former mistress. According to one subpoena obtained by a Las Vegas television station, recipients were ordered to testify March 31 in Washington, D.C., and to turn over documents relating to the Republican senator. TV station KLAS reported Thursday that the subpoenas went to six unnamed Las Vegas businesses. One of the subpoenas posted on the station's Web site blacks out the recipient's identity. The FBI and Senate Ethics Committee are investigating whether Ensign tried to limit ...

President Obama Signs Jobs Bill, Says More Must Be Done

(03-18) 08:48 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama has signed into law a package of tax breaks and spending designed to give the nation a jobs boost. In a sunny Rose Garden ceremony, Obama said the legislation will help the private sector start hiring again. It is the first of several jobs measures promised by Democrats this year. Obama called it essential but "but by no means enough." The legislation includes about $18 billion in tax breaks and $20 billion into highway and transit programs. There's plenty of skepticism that the new law will do much to actually create jobs. Optimistic estimates predict the tax break could generate perhaps 250,000 jobs through the ...

CBO: Health-care reform bill cuts deficit by $1.3 trillion over 20 years, covers 95%

Washington has spent the past week or so waiting for the Congressional Budget Office to release its preliminary estimate of the Senate bill with the reconciliation fixes. Not only are those numbers important for the debate, but Democratic leaders refuse to release the actual text of their changes until CBO releases the specifics of its analysis. According to a Democratic source, CBO has finished its work and will release the official preliminary score later today. But here are the basic numbers: The bill will cost $940 billion over the first 10 years and reduce the deficit by $130 billion during that period. In the second 10 years -- so, 2020 to 2029 -- it will reduce the deficit by $1.2 ...

Republicans Have Used "Slaughter Solution" Many Times

Republicans have been railing against the proposed move by House Democrats to combine a vote on the Senate version of the health care bill with a vote on a bill to make changes to that bill under budget reconciliation -- a tactic they are calling the "Slaughter Solution," after House Rules Chairman Rep. Louise Slaughter. "The 'Slaughter Solution' is the ultimate in Washington power grabs, a legislative ploy that lets Democrats defy the will of the American people while attempting to eliminate any trace of actually doing so," House Republican Leader John Boehner (pictured) said. But it's worth noting that this "Washington power grab" was used 36 ...

Democrats' new health care reform bill is estimated to cost $940 billion over the next decade without adding to the deficit, sources told Fox News. Sources said the estimates show the updated bill would save $130 billion over the first 10 years and save $1.2 trillion over the second decade. ORIGINAL STORY ... The fate of the Democrats' health care reform effort hinges on a report expected Thursday morning from the congressional budget scorekeepers -- an estimate of what a follow-up bill could cost that already is running into trouble. The Congressional Budget Office is set to release its estimate of the price tag for a so-called "side-car" package of changes to the ...

If liberals were intellectually honest we would be hooting it up over the latest Obama gaffes. Never mind Joe Biden's, they're too predictable and regular and, well, easy. The late night hosts like Letterman and Leno would be having a field day with Obama if they could only face the fact that their man is a dunce. In Strongsville, Ohio yesterday the President said during his health care rah rah speech: "Your employer, it's estimated, would see premiums fall by as much as 3000% which means they could give you a raise." I am no math wizard but I did spend 20 years in the investment business managing billions of dollars and if I am not mistaken the most an asset or ...

In a rare interview with Fox News on Wednesday, President Obama predicted to host Bret Baier that Congress will soon pass the health care reform proposal that his administration has been working on for months. OBAMA: I'm confident it will pass. And the reason I'm confident that it's going to pass is because it's the right thing to do. Look, on a whole host of these measures, whether it's health care, whether it was fixing the financial system, whether it's making sure that we passed the Recovery Act, I knew these things might not be popular, but I was absolutely positive that they were the right thing to do and that, over time, we would be vindicated in having made ...

CRIME HISTORY - Mobsters Convicted of Extorting Action Movie Star By: Scott McCabe, Examiner Staff Writer March 18, 2010 On this day, March 18, in 2003, seven mobsters were convicted of trying to muscle $3 million from action film star Steven Seagal. Seagal, a seventh-degree black belt, decided to stop making violent films on the advice of his spiritual guru. But the Gambino crime family wanted Seagal to keep making the ticket-selling movies and to pay the family $150,000 for each project. Mafia members kept showing up uninvited at Seagal's home or his film set. To help get their point across, they brought along 300-plus-pound enforcer Richard "the Lump" Bondi. On FBI ...

Witnesses say customers and store employees looked stunned. Management later apologized. Company spokeswoman Ashley Hardie says the incident was "unacceptable." First of all, let’s see what Democrat Senator and liberal Dick Durbin just said: “Anyone who would stand before you and say well, if you pass health care reform, next year’s health care premiums are going down, I don’t think is telling the truth.” Okay, to say that health care premiums is going down is not telling the truth. Which, of course, is a lie. Now let’s see what Obama claimed of his ObamaCare boondoggle just the other day in Strongsville, Ohio: “How many people are getting insurance throught their jobs right now, raise your hands, alot of those folk , your employer, it’s estimated would see premiums fall by as much as 3000 percent so ...

Obama Reverses Bush On Pentagon Succession

Posted: 03/17/2010 01:00:00 AM MDT WASHINGTON — The Obama administration has quietly reviewed, and revised, the sequence in which Pentagon civilian officials would take command should Defense Secretary Robert Gates die unexpectedly, say in a surprise attack. An executive order published without fanfare this month does away with a system for succession instituted by President George W. Bush that played down the service secretaries and elevated positions held by trusted aides to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, as he wanted. Obama's executive order, published March 1, re-establishes the Army secretary in the No. 3 slot, behind the deputy defense secretary.

If you were wondering if he was going to do it again, he has. Like nearly every red-blooded sports fan in America, Obama loves him some March Madness. Plus, he's a basketball fan; why should he pretend like he doesn't care by not even giving a simple 20 minutes out of his day to take a big PR boost? I think that's also what this is about. Senators, congressman and congresswoman are all now getting in on these picks because it gives them another way identify with the common man/woman. Who did ________ take in the Final Four this year? Obama will unveil his entire "Baracket" (the most perfect name in the history of ever for this kind of thing? Of course!) on ...

Kucinich Says He'll Vote for Health Care Bill

Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, announced Wednesday that he would vote for the Senate health care bill, becoming the most prominent House Democrat to reverse his opposition. Kucinich voted against the House bill in November and has opposed the Senate bill because it doesn't include a government-run insurance plan. Kucinich has been under enormous pressure in recent weeks to lend his support to the bill, especially from Obama, who visited the Kucinich's district on Monday.
