Obama and the Democrats Just Raised the Price and Lowered the Quality of Your Health Insurance. Give Them the Proper Thanks. Post Date: 2010-03-22 13:11:53 by dont eat that

While the subsidies don't start until 2014, many of the new taxes and insurance mandates will take effect within six months. The first result will be turmoil in the insurance industry, as small insurers in particular find it impossible to make money under the new rules. A wave of consolidation is likely, and so are higher premiums as insurers absorb the cost of new benefits and the mandate to take all comers. Liberals will try to blame insurers once again, but the public shouldn't be fooled. WellPoint, Aetna and the rest are from now on going to be public utilities, essentially creatures of Congress and the Health and Human Services Department. When prices rise and quality and ...
Senate GOP Skeptical Of Chances To Take Down Healthcare Reform Post Date: 2010-03-22 12:29:32 by Brian S

03/22/10 06:00 AM ET Senior Senate Republicans are skeptical of their chances to block major elements of a Democratic reconciliation package of healthcare reforms this week, avoiding the bold predictions of victory that have marked their statements for months. A weeklong series of fits and starts is likely for the 153-page package that Democratic leaders will try to push through the upper chamber using reconciliation rules that will allow its passage with a simple majority of 51 votes. Republicans have threatened for months to make the process as grueling as possible, challenging the bill on virtually a line-by-line basis. Were going to go sentence-by-sentence through however ...
Gallup: 20% Underemployment Is Here And Rising (The Obama Depresion) Post Date: 2010-03-22 11:26:40 by dont eat that

According to a recent Gallup survey of underemployment (the "true" unemployment number) via Zerohedge, we are now at 20% underemployment and heading higher if this chart is indicative of anything. Apparently Gallup surveyed 20,000 people over 30 days and this is what they came up with. Regardless if it's not consistent with the Department of Labor's official numbers, it's nonetheless quite frightening.
In praise of Obama's health care plan (I wish I were a woman so I could have his baby) Post Date: 2010-03-22 09:21:15 by .war

When you wake up today, you will have woken up in a country that has finally passed hugely significant, though incremental, health care reform. Hundreds of millions of your fellow Americans (fellow human beings) will benefit concretely from these changes, and we will all be several big steps closer to living in a nation that meets infirmity with compassion and care. Though there have been times in the past year where I looked backed in uncertainty on my zeal for Obama's election, that has been washed away by this historic accomplishment. I weep with joy when I think of all the people, real people, who will no longer be denied coverage due to a pre-existing condition, and for all the ...

Rosenberg: Raw Data Show Retail Sales Are Really Falling Friday, 19 Mar 2010 02:09 PM Article Font Size By: Julie Crawshaw Gluskin Sheff analyst David Rosenberg sales all the talk about retail sales improving is wrong: According to raw data, sales actually fell 1.6 percent month-over-month in February, and seasonality just isn't to blame. Its always best to look at what consumers do rather than what they think or say, Rosenberg wrote in a note to investors. Weak spending last month would be meaningful if February was usually a weak month for sales compared to January, Rosenberg notes. But in fact, retail sales rise over half the time in February," he ...

The new news is that according to CNN the 216 Democratic votes to pass the Obama health care bill have been secured and that's in no small measure to this impassioned speech The President gave to the House Democrats Saturday: Obama's health care reform speech was a great one because it was from the heart, emotive, unscripted, and timely. President Obama's candidacy was a reminder of what it meant to be a Democrat. And while some may feel President Obama lost his Democratic way, no one who's listened to his speech can argue that he's found his path. Heath Care Reform is an idea who's time came long ago. Today, something can be done about it. What's sad are ...

Two black Congress members and a gay member were verbally abused by anti-health care reform protesters Saturday. Rep. John Lewis (D-Georgia), said protesters Saturday repeatedly yelled "nigger" at him as he left a heath care meeting and walked to the Capitol. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) said he too was called "nigger" as he walked to the Capitol for a vote and was spat on by a protester who was arrested by Capitol Police. Protesters also yelled "faggot" at Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), who is openly gay, as he left the same meeting that Lewis attended. Obama's problem is that he's brown; I have said it all along. Republican opposition has hardened, going from 74 percent in February to 80 percent in the most recent poll, taken March 10. Federal Appellate Court Denies Former Attorney General's Request for Full Court Review SEATTLE - March 18 - The American Civil Liberties Union lawsuit charging that former Attorney General John Ashcroft is personally responsible for the wrongful detention of an innocent American, Abdullah al-Kidd, can go forward, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled today. The ruling denies Ashcroft's request that his appeal be heard by the entire court and upheld the court's September 2009 decision that the federal material witness law cannot be used to detain or investigate suspects where no probable cause exists for criminal charges. The ruling also held that Ashcroft ...

Another Paul nettles GOP Senior Republicans in Kentucky and Washington D.C. are deeply concerned about Senate candidate Trey Graysons campaign as he struggles to narrow the gap against GOP primary rival Rand Paul. Two months before the election, the libertarian-leaning Paul, son of the Texas congressman and quixotic presidential contender, has tapped into anti-Washington grass-roots fervor on the right and staked out an advantage over Grayson, Kentuckys secretary of state and establishment favorite. There have been few polls in the race, but an automated survey earlier this month showed Paul leading by double digits. Even Grayson backers acknowledge that their candidate is ...

March 19 (Bloomberg) -- The Federal Reserve Board must disclose documents identifying financial firms that might have collapsed without the largest ever U.S. government bailout, a federal appeals court said. The U.S. Court of Appeals in Manhattan ruled today that the Fed must release records of the unprecedented $2 trillion U.S. loan program launched primarily after the 2008 collapse of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. The ruling upholds a decision of a lower-court judge, who in August ordered that the information be released. The Fed had argued that it could withhold the information under an exemption that allows federal agencies to refuse disclosure of trade secrets and commercial or ...
