The number of people who joined the unemployment lines went up again last week, and that's terrible news for housing. People filed initial unemployment claims at a seasonally-adjusted rate of 460,000 in the week ending April 3. That's an increase of 18,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 442,000. Even the 4-week moving average, which smooths out volatility, was up 2,250, to 450,250 a week, from the previous week's revised average of 448,000, according to the Department of Labor. Economists and experts have their apologies and excuses ready to explain this latest report: The initial unemployment claims data often has its ups and downs, especially in the week ...

Stanley Greenberg and James Carville claim that the Republican Party has peaked too soon. Incredibly, Greenberg says that when we look back on this, were going to say Massachusetts is when 1994 happened. Stans only claim to expertise in the 1994 elections, of course, is that hes the guy who blew it for the Democrats. Right after that, President Clinton fired both of the flawed consultants and never brought them back again. article-1135603-034A1057000005DC-377_468x286 Their latest pitch is that the highpoint of the GOP advance was the Scott Brown election and that, from here on, things will improve slightly for the Democrats. Once again, Carville ...
Returning the Census is Our Constitutional Duty Post Date: 2010-04-08 15:01:19 by go65

Im worried about this years census. Im not worried about ACORN rigging the count we already succeeded in kicking them out of the census. Im not worried about the Presidents attempt to run the census out of the White House we beat that power grab back last year. Im not even worried about privacy this years 10-question census form is the shortest in memory. No, what worries me is blatant misinformation coming from otherwise well-meaning conservatives. They are trying to do the right thing, but instead they are helping big government liberals by discouraging fellow conservatives from filling out their census forms. Early census ...

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Gregory Giusti's 83-year-old mother had not heard that her son had been arrested, but she told ABC7 he has a history of mental problems. She does not think he would be capable of carrying out the threat; he has never owned a gun, and she blames Fox News for getting her son worked up. Giusti was arrested Wednesday afternoon for threatening Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi over recent healthcare legislation. "Greg frequently gets in with a group of people that have really radical ideas and that are not consistent with myself or the rest of the family, which gets him into problems," Eleanor Giusti said. "I say Fox News, or all of those that are ...
Internal Grumbling Over Republican Healthcare Message Intensifies Post Date: 2010-04-08 13:27:27 by Brian S

Republican leaders on Capitol Hill are facing a mini-rebellion against their message on healthcare reform. Every GOP lawmaker rejected the Democrats bill last month, but the party is now split on whether to call for a full repeal of the new law. Dozens of Republican lawmakers have signed on to bills that would repeal 100 percent of the health overhaul. The repeal effort on Capitol Hill is led in part by conservative Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) on the House side and Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) in the upper chamber. With Congress back in session next week, King and Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) riled up supporters of an "ObamaCare" repeal at a campaign rally Wednesday ...

Sarah Palin: Michael Steele 'doing a great job' Former Alaska GOP Gov. Sarah Palin said Wednesday night that she fully supports Michael Steele, despite his rocky tenure as chairman of the Republican National Committee. I think hes doing a great job, Palin told Fox Newss Sean Hannity, more than a week after it was first reported that the RNC approved a nearly $2,000 expense to visit a bondage-themed nightclub in West Hollywood. I'm glad he is the leader of the party, she said. I support Michael Steele. Palin did not directly address the nightclub expense and declared that the Republican Party machine is to blame for ...

President Obama signed an arms-reduction treaty with Russia's Dmitry Medvedev in Prague Thursday morning. While Reagans self-appointed defenders on the right are decrying Obamas new nuclear plan, his former secretary of State, George Shultz, tells John Avlon he sees a continuity of vision between the two presidents. I believe weve come to the point that we must go at the matter of realistically reducing
if not totally eliminating, nuclear weaponsthe threat to the world. That wasnt some son-of-a-hippie Obama talking. That was Ronald Wilson Reagan speaking to the New York Post editorial board on March 28, 1982. It was the first of 150 ...

Although President Barack Obamas policies on the production and use of nuclear weapons has been called reckless, dangerous, irresponsible, ill-advised, very risky, catastrophic, dangerous, fantasy, unrealistic, absurd, moronic, and just plain stupidity, I just prefer to call it FRIGHTENING while I wait for an imminent attack upon the United States from one or more of our enemies. How’s that Obama economy working out for you? -- Fed’s Bernanke Says Joblessness, Foreclosures Pose Hurdles Post Date: 2010-04-08 08:40:30 by no gnu taxes

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke said joblessness, home foreclosures and weak lending to small businesses pose challenges to the economy as it recovers from the worst recession since the 1930s. We are far from being out of the woods, Bernanke said today in a speech in Dallas. While the financial crisis has abated and economic growth will probably reduce unemployment over the next year, the U.S. faces hurdles including the lack of a sustained rebound in housing, a troubled commercial real estate market and very weak hiring, he said. We have yet to see evidence of a sustained recovery in the housing market, Bernanke said. ...
Obama blind to Islamic terrorism Post Date: 2010-04-07 20:03:48 by no gnu taxes

Barack Obama's administration has removed religious terms such as "Islamic extremism" and "jihad" from the central document outlining the U.S. national security strategy, but given that we have Islamic terrorist training camps right here in America's back yard, one might question why such willful blindness: At the same time these communities are left to flourish in the US, our troops are fighting Islamic jihadists from all over the world in Afghanistan. All while the man in charge of protecting the country turns a blind eye to the reality that ISLAMIC TERRORISTS and ISLAMIC JIHADISTS exist at all. So let's be clear. Islamic terrorists and jihadists are ...
Under Obama, A Diminished Sense Of Opportunity Post Date: 2010-04-07 19:59:18 by no gnu taxes

Last summer, I wrote a column framed as a letter to a young Obama voter. It concluded: "You want policies that will enable you to choose your future. Obama backs policies that would let centralized authorities choose much of your future for you. Is this the hope and change you want?" It seems that some young Obama voters have decided it isn't. The Pew Research Center's poll of the millennial generation, which voted 66 percent to 32 percent for Obama in 2008, found that they identify with Democrats over Republicans by only a 54 to 40 percent margin this year. Perhaps they are coming to realize that the burdens the Obama policies are placing on the private sector economy ...

President Barack Obama's approval rating in Wisconsin dipped to 44 percent in a new poll. That's the lowest of his presidency so far. The St. Norbert College Survey Center found the president's approval rating is down from 50 percent last fall and 60 percent a year ago, shortly after his term began. St. Norbert political science professor Wendy Scattergood says history shows Mr. Obama's falling approval rating shouldn't come as a big surprise. "It's kind of a normal pattern that presidents start out during their first year in their honeymoon period fairly high and then they dip down, so really, considering his been through the big health care battle, he ...

Since taking office on January 20, 2009, President Obama has engaged in one form of incremental surrender and betrayal after another, letting our allies know the United States is not to be trusted to protect them and our enemies know they need only wait for our troops to depart. The latest tiny surrender was Obamas pledge that the United States will not use nuclear weapons against none-nuclear countries no matter what weapons they choose to use against us. In plain terms, our nuclear weapons may well be the only thing restraining the bad intentions of any number of despots worldwide. It should be noted that Obamas new policy leaves our strategic nuclear weapons in place, but ...

theyll be twice as expensive, hold half as much music and wear out in a year or two
but well subsidize them so that everyone can afford one. plust they can be pre-loaded with obamas speeches, a copy of his e-book and photos of the first family. or maybe a czar and government agency can take over our professional sports leagues
theyll implement affirmative action (so that the talent level goes down but its more PC) and all games will end in tie scores so that everyones self-esteem is kept high. ...

How can we learn to say no? The federal government is now starting to build the institutions that will try to reduce the soaring growth of health care costs. There will be a group to compare the effectiveness of different treatments, a so-called Medicare innovation center and a Medicare oversight board that can set payment rates. But all these groups will face the same basic problem. Deep down, Americans tend to believe that more care is better care. We recoil from efforts to restrict care. Managed care became loathed in the 1990s. The recent recommendation to reduce breast cancer screening set off a firestorm. On a personal level, anyone who has made a decision about his or her own care ...

President Barack Obama's advisers will remove religious terms such as "Islamic extremism" from the central document outlining the U.S. national security strategy and will use the rewritten document to emphasize that the United States does not view Muslim nations through the lens of terror, counterterrorism officials said. The change is a significant shift in the National Security Strategy, a document that previously outlined the Bush Doctrine of preventative war and currently states: The struggle against militant Islamic radicalism is the great ideological conflict of the early years of the 21st century. The officials described the changes on condition of anonymity because ...
