Ron Paul: Barack Obama is Not a Socialist

Republicans and tea party activists are fond of accusing President Barack Obama of being a socialist, but today party gadfly Ron Paul said they had it wrong. “In the technical sense, in the economic definition, he is not a socialist,” the Texas Republican said to a smattering of applause at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference. “He’s a corporatist,” Paul quickly added, meaning the president takes “care of corporations and corporations take over and run the country.” Supporters of the Texas lawmaker appear to represent a significant number of the 3,500 attendees here, fueling speculation that Paul is likely to win the straw poll later today. The Campaign for Liberty, Paul’s ...

Union Thug Memo Urges Members To Pray For N.J. Gov's Death

Bergen County Teachers Union's Memo The Latest Salvo In War Of Words With Gov. Christie Reporting Marcia Kramer TEANECK, N.J. (CBS) 53; New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's take-no-prisoners demand for education cuts got him a whole lot more than he bargained for -- a death wish. It was in a controversial e-mail sent by the Bergen County Teachers Union to its members asking that Christie be "taken" by the Lord. In seven years as the Garden State's pugnacious U.S. Attorney, Christie got only two death threats -- from the bloods and the crips. It took only three months as governor for an adversary to wish him six feet under. "To have the leader of the Bergen ...

Sarah Palin Has Obama's Number

I have to admit, this made me laugh out loud...she certainly has Obama's number! In a high profile address before thousands of conservative activists at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference Friday, Sarah Palin attacked the Obama administration for its energy policy, mocked the media and liberals for suggesting she is inciting violence and hit back at the president's criticism of her knowledge on nuclear issues. Mr. Obama said in an interview Friday that he was unconcerned with Palin's attacks on his decision to announce that in most cases the United States will not use nuclear weapons against a non-nuclear country. "Last I checked, Sarah Palin's not much of ...

THAT is bullshit. The civil war was all about MONEY. The South wanted to sell their crops to Foreign Nations and use their own ports. FEDGOV said NO. You have to ship them up North, and let our middlemen sell them to nations WE choose at prices we select. The South was getting HOSED. One of the reasons they had slaves was due to the North imposing these rules on them. They couldn't afford to pay wages. Now, some of them were very greedy, no doubt...and that is evidenced in the grand homes they built. However, many southern farmers were barely breaking even and were sick and tired of it. They wanted to use the ports in SC and GA to ship their products and wanted to sell to France ...

Sarah Palin Rattles President Obama

A fairly easy task when one is a down-to-earth person facing off against a self-absorbed elitist: -- President Barack Obama on Thursday made clear he was not going to take advice from Republican Sarah Palin when it comes to decisions about the U.S. nuclear arsenal. Palin, the former vice presidential candidate, has not been shy about criticizing Obama’s policies and this week weighed in on his revamped nuclear strategy, saying it was like a child in a playground who says ‘punch me in the face, I’m not going to retaliate.’ “I really have no response to that. The last I checked, Sarah Palin is not much of an expert on nuclear issues,” Obama said in an ...

AP EXCLUSIVE: Future pope stalled pedophile case

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The future Pope Benedict XVI resisted pleas to defrock a California priest with a record of sexually molesting children, citing concerns including "the good of the universal church," according to a 1985 letter bearing his signature. The correspondence, obtained by The Associated Press, is the strongest challenge yet to the Vatican's insistence that Benedict played no role in blocking the removal of pedophile priests during his years as head of the Catholic Church's doctrinal watchdog office. The letter, signed by then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, was typed in Latin and is part of years of correspondence between the Diocese of Oakland and the Vatican ...

Leahy: Supreme Court Hearings Should Be In Summer

(04-09) 09:10 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Senate chairman who oversees Supreme Court nominations says midsummer hearings will offer the best chance to avoid partisan fighting over Justice John Paul Stevens' replacement. Vermont Democrat Patrick Leahy tells The Associated Press he will suggest the timing to President Barack Obama, who has not announced a nominee. Confirmation hearings were held in midsummer for the last Democratic nominee, Justice Sonia Sotomayor, and the last Republican nominee, Chief Justice John Roberts. Leahy says nobody can complain if Stevens' replacement is considered by the Judiciary Committee on the same timetable.

(04-09) 09:45 PDT Olympia, Wash. (AP) -- Police arrested 29 people after an anti-police march in Olympia Thursday night turned violent. Cmdr. Tor Bjornstad said Friday that officers were monitoring about three-dozen people dressed in black, wearing masks and calling themselves anarchists. The group started marching downtown about 7 p.m. Thursday, chanting obscenities at the police. By 9 p.m., they had spray-painted the camera of a photographer for The Olympian and tried to take the camera and his cell phone, Bjornstad said. They also spray-painted buildings, broke windows and threw newspaper boxes into the street. Officers surrounded the group and made the arrests. Two officers were ...

WASHINGTON — Senator John Ensign’s political troubles worsened Thursday as more Republican colleagues from his home state of Nevada said that the ethics investigations surrounding him have threatened to damage the party statewide. Two Republican leaders in Las Vegas called Thursday for Mr. Ensign to resign, a day after Representative Dean Heller, a Republican from northern Nevada, said that the ethics inquiries were causing “real problems” for party members around the state. Their comments came on the heels of a front-page article Monday in The Las Vegas Sun that read much like a political obituary. It said Nevada Republicans were upset “that Ensign seems ...

In an interview with Good Morning America, President Barack Obama brushed aside Sarah Palin's recent criticism of his nuclear policy, saying, "Last I checked, Sarah Palin's not much of an expert on nuclear issues." Palin had said on Sean Hannity's Fox News show on Wednesday night that Obama's new nuclear policy was "kinda like getting out there on the playground, a bunch of kids ready to fight, and one of the kids saying, 'Go ahead, punch me in the face and I'm not gonna retaliate.'" Asked for a response, Obama said: I really have no response to that. The last I checked, Sarah Palin's not much of an expert on nuclear issues. Watch:

Wal-Mart Just Killed The Dream Of Pricing Power Joe Weisenthal Apr. 9, 2010, 9:50 AM So much for the idea that the economic rebound would see a return to strong pricing power. Wal-Mart (WMT), perhaps the most deflationary force in the history of our republic (tied with the internet, perhaps), is set to cut prices on over 10,000 items, according to WSJ. The news comes a day after a slew of retail sales that, on the surface, seemed to be showing gangbuster growth (though there were a handful of reasons to temper your enthusiasm). Of course, that won't stop analysts and the street from going insanely gaga for retail right now. Here's Bill Dreher of Deutsche Bank with what we ...

(04-09) 08:31 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) -- Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, the court's oldest member and leader of its liberal bloc, is retiring. President Barack Obama now has his second high court opening to fill. Stevens said Friday he will step down when the court finishes its work for the summer in late June or early July. He said he hopes his successor is confirmed "well in advance of the commencement of the court's next term." Stevens' announcement leaves ample time for the White House to settle on a successor and for Senate Democrats, who control a 59-vote majority, to hold confirmation hearings and a vote before the court's next term begins in ...

Seriously. The man is proving the uselessness of the US-American electoral process with everyday of his presidency. He has fucked-up healthcare. He said that building a "single-payer" public healthcare system would require "starting from scratch" when it would only have meant expanding medicare, medicaid, and veterans' healthccare. He said that it would violate the USA's "free-market" culture, and then he goes on to sign a bill that FORCES people to buy something regardless of whether they want to or not. Here's the thing about mandatory car insurance: If you don't want to be forced to buy it, don't get a car or a license. Home insurance? ...

"Had Stupak sought re-election, he would have faced challengers from both the left and the right backed by interest groups angered by Stupak's health care vote. Stupak negotiated with Democratic leaders down to the eleventh hour for stricter abortion language in the health care bill, but he ultimately voted for it after President Obama agreed to sign an executive order assuring the new laws will keep taxpayer dollars from funding abortions. That prompted the conservative Tea Party Express to launch a $250,000 ad campaign against Stupak this week. The group also scheduled a handful of stops on its bus tour in Stupak's district."

Public opinion of Gov. Chris Christie has taken a dive in the aftermath of his first state budget, according to a poll released today. The Rutgers-Eagleton poll found that Christie's favorability rating sank 12 points since February, when 45 percent of residents had a favorable opinion of the governor and 26 percent unfavorable. Now that stands at 33 percent favorable and 37 percent unfavorable, according to the poll. The survey did not measure Christie's job approval ratings. Another poll, released by Fairleigh Dickinson University last week, found his job approval rating dropped 9 percentage points, to 43 percent, after he introduced his budget in March. The governor's ...

I mean, I thought the most recent report we had was that 162,000 new jobs were created and the recovery was in full steam and we're going to come back to glory, and now this? "The Labor Department said Thursday that first-time claims increased by 18,000 in the week ending April 3, to a seasonally adjusted 460,000. That’s worse than economists’ estimates of a drop to 435,000." Of course, here comes the excuse, there's always an excuse. "Easter can be difficult since ...

A tomato packing and farming company near Firebaugh plans to lay off 262 workers. Garguilo Inc., located just south of the city and employing mostly Firebaugh workers, sent a letter to the city detailing the layoffs. The cuts make up more than 33% of the total work force and are effective June 15. Of the layoffs, 233 are in farm operations and 29 are in the packinghouse, according to the letter. Garguilo executives did not return calls seeking comment. The company is among Firebaugh’s top five employers, according to City Manager José Antonio Ramírez. Ramírez said the layoffs are a “devastating loss” to Firebaugh, which had a 31% unemployment rate ...

Goodbye Obama, Hello Ron Paul Last week was a good week for the so-called “constitutional wing” of the Republican Party, those indomitable Ron Paul people. Okay, sure, the next presidential election is a long way off but a recent snapshot taken by pollsters shows a surprising opening for the Texas congressman, the man who says that the Federal Reserve should be audited. The general public is moving toward Ron Paul, even if most of them don’t even know who he is. According to a recent Gallup Poll 50% of all Americans don’t think Obama deserves re-election. Only 38% think he does. 65% think that most members of Congress don’t deserve re-election. Three of four ...
