TARP Oversight Panel Say Obama Mortgage Program Ineffective
Post Date: 2010-04-14 09:18:35 by no gnu taxes

The Congressional Oversight Panel that keeps track of the TARP has a message for the Administration: The home loan modification program is moving so slowly that it cannot come close to matching the rate at which mortgages fall into default. In its April report, the body said that Home Affordable Modification Program was not working. “Treasury’s response continues to lag well behind the pace of the crisis.” The report added “As of February 2010, only 168,708 homeowners have received final, five-year loan modifications – a small fraction of the 6 million borrowers who are presently 60+ days delinquent on their loans.” What the report did not address entirely is ...

The Obama Job Failures

Here is a recent summary from the "Morning Bell" on the failure of the Obama team to create jobs. He could have stimulated the economy more by simply handing each of the umemployed one large check rather than the unwieldy stimulus program that was an overall failure. The last paragraph of this article sums it up very nicely. The government has no money of its own. They only get money by taking ours. -- On February 11th, President Barack Obama stood on a windy hilltop in front of a dusty construction site in Fairfax County, Virginia, and promised the American people: “Here in Virginia, my plan will create or save almost 100,000 jobs, doing work at sites just like this ...

(April 13) -- Without the video, this might have been a classic case of "he said, she said." But there is a video. And so the case against two University of Maryland students accused of attacking police after a basketball game last month was dropped after the footage showed county police beating one of those students repeatedly with a baton. Now a new kind of accusation is being leveled, this one against the officers: police brutality. "The video shows the charging documents were nothing more than a cover, a fairy tale they made up to cover for the officers' misconduct," Christopher Griffiths, one of the students' lawyers, told The Washington Post. "The ...

Mass. Priest calls for Pope Benedict to resign

(NECN: Scot Yount, East Longmeadow, Mass.) - A Massachusetts Priest says Pope Benedict should admit church mistakes in the abuse crisis or resign. The Reverend James Scahill has been a longtime critic of the church's handling of the abuse crisis. That was made clear during his homily on Sunday. Father James Scahill: "A systemic cover-up of the abuse of children and minors for decades if not longer." Father James Scahill is an outspoken critic of the Catholic Church's handling of the sexual abuse crisis. Sunday in his sermon he called on the Pope and other church leaders whom he believes have known about sexual abuse for decades to admit what they knew and when, or step ...

AP Can't Find Evidence of N-Word Use; Blames Tea Partiers for Posting 'Mislabeled' Video

Aha! ...Aha! Aha! Aha! Associated Press writer Jesse Washington has investigated the March 20 incident in Washington, D.C. at which members of the Tea Party supposedly hurled the N-word at black Congressmen. Well, no recording of that word being used could be found but that hasn't stopped Washington from blaming the Tea Partiers...for posting the "wrong" video of that incident on YouTube. I kid you not: Three Democratic congressmen — all black — say they heard racial slurs as they walked through thousands of angry protesters outside the U.S. Capitol. A white lawmaker says he heard the epithets too. Conservative activists say the lawmakers are lying. What does the ...

Your Tax Dollars at War: More Than 53% of Your Tax Payment Goes to the Military

If you're like me, now that we're in the week that federal income taxes are due, you are finally starting to collect your records and prepare for the ordeal. Either way, whether you are a procrastinator like me, or have already finished and know how much you have paid to the government, it is a good time to stop and consider how much of your money goes to pay for our bloated and largely useless and pointless military. The budget for the 2011 fiscal year, which has to be voted by Congress by this Oct. 1, looks to be about $3 trillion, not counting the funds collected for Social Security (since the Vietnam War, the government has included the Social Security Trust Fund in the budget ...

AP Analysis: Economic Pain Eases in Hard-Hit Areas

Economic stress declined in the nation's most troubled areas in February as unemployment stabilized and the pace of foreclosures eased, according to The Associated Press' monthly analysis of conditions in more than 3,100 U.S. counties. After peaking in January, economic stress dipped in February in half the states and half the 3,141 counties. "We are not out of the woods yet, and there are still a lot of things that could go wrong, but things are improving," said David Wyss, chief economist at Standard & Poor's in New York. The AP's Economic Stress Index found the average county's score in February was 11.8. That was down slightly from January's ...

Survey: Troops Shift Political Parties Abandoning Republican Party
Post Date: 2010-04-13 11:54:29 by Brian S

Political party affiliation has fallen sharply among those wearing the uniform today, a new Military Times survey shows. An exclusive survey of some 1,800 active-duty troops shows the percentage of self-identified Republicans has decreased by one-third since 2004, from 60 percent to 41 percent, while the percentage of self-identified independents has nearly doubled to 32 percent during the same period. These career-oriented officers and mid-grade and senior enlisted members are still far more conservative than liberal, but they are less likely today to identify with the GOP, the survey shows. Much of the shift appears to have occurred only very recently, with the percentage of troops ...

Income falls 3.2% during Obama's term (It increased 12.7% under Bush)

Real personal income for Americans - excluding government payouts such as Social Security - has fallen by 3.2 percent since President Obama took office in January 2009, according to the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis. For comparison, real personal income during the first 15 months in office for President George W. Bush, who inherited a milder recession from his predecessor, dropped 0.4 percent. Income excluding government payouts increased 12.7 percent during Mr. Bush's eight years in office. "This is hardly surprising," said Douglas Holtz-Eakin, an economist and former director of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. "Under President ...

Federal deficit slashed by 8 percent, say officials

The federal deficit is running significantly lower than it did last year, with the budget gap for the first half of fiscal 2010 down 8 percent over the same period a year ago, senior Obama administration officials said Monday. The officials attributed the results to higher tax revenue and to lower spending than projected on bailing out the financial system. If the trend continues for the rest of the year, it would mean the annual deficit would be $1.3 trillion -- about $300 billion less than the administration's projection two months ago for 2010. But by suggesting the deficit may have peaked, administration officials are taking a political gamble. If the favorable number does not ...

Connecticut bishops fight sex abuse bill

Hartford, Connecticut (CNN) -- A bill in Connecticut's legislature that would remove the statute of limitations on child sexual abuse cases has sparked a fervent response from the state's Roman Catholic bishops, who released a letter to parishioners Saturday imploring them to oppose the measure. Under current Connecticut law, sexual abuse victims have 30 years past their 18th birthday to file a lawsuit. The proposed change to the law would rescind that statute of limitations. The proposed change to the law would put "all Church institutions, including your parish, at risk," says the letter, which was signed by Connecticut's three Roman Catholic bishops. The letter is ...

Well, you really could knock me over with a feather… and a red colored one at that. This coffee party thingie was much more successful than I imagined. You may have heard of this coffee party idea that an Obama operative in Virginia tried to start? It’s called Coffee Party CCCP… sorry, I always get that wrong, it’s Coffee Party USA and it was started by one Ann Park, an Obama operative and employee of the New York Times. The diminutive Mz Park has deep ties to the Obama campaign and her coffee party effort is classic astroturf and that is why I assumed it would fail miserably. After all, the only reason the tea party movement is so wildly successful is because there is ...

Liberal Monnbat Admits That the Obama Economy Sucks

The U.S. economy added 162,000 jobs in March. That sounds impressive until you look more closely. At least a third of them were temporary government hires to take the census—better than no job but hardly worth writing home about. The 112,000 real new jobs were fewer than the 150,000 needed to keep up with the growth of the U.S. population. It's far better than it was—we're not hemorrhaging jobs as we did in 2008 and 2009—but the bleeding hasn't stopped. Since the start of the Great Recession in December 2007, the economy has shed 8.4 million jobs and failed to create another 2.7 million required by an ever-larger pool of potential workers. That leaves us more ...

With U.S. unemployment now at depression levels, we simply can no longer tolerate not only illegal immigration, but any immigration which allows foreign nationals to take much-needed jobs from American citizens. Obama and Napolitano will bring about a depression The Department of Homeland Security has just reported that during 2009, they issued 1,130,818 new Green Cards to foreign nationals, allowing them to work legally in this country. That number represents the fourth highest number of cards issued in one year. 750,000 of the new Green Cards were given to the families of U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents. The top four recipient nations are as follows: -Mexico…164,920 ...

State Farm asks Toyota to repay acceleration claims

DETROIT — Armed with reports of accidents for which they've already paid claims, State Farm insurance has asked Toyota to repay them for any crashes related to unintended acceleration by its vehicles. Other companies are expected to follow and demands for repayment of claims — called "subrogation" in the insurance business — could end up costing Toyota from $20 million to $30 million, says Mark Bunim, an attorney with Closed Case, a mediation firm. Customers could see a bonus from any repayment: Insurance deductibles they paid could be refunded. "If we didn't incur any risk, we get our part back and you get your part back," says Dick Luedke, a ...

Orrin Hatch Names Hillary Clinton as Possible Supreme Court Nominee

Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch, one of the top Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Monday morning that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been mentioned as a possible nominee to the Supreme Court. "I even heard the name Hillary Clinton today, and that would be an interesting person in the mix," Hatch said on NBC's "Today Show." The senator said he would not pre-judge whether any potential nominee would be an appropriate candidate to replace retiring Justice John Paul Stevens, but he had general praise for the secretary of state. "I happen to like Hillary Clinton, I think she's done agood job for the Democrats -- Secretary of State's ...

President Barack Obama checked the box on his census form "Black, African Am., or Negro" and only that box. The Census Bureau is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce which Obama oversees as president. Here is how the reference book created by the Census Bureau says the census race question should be addressed: The race question must be answered for each member of the household. Mark all boxes for the appropriate races. Mark the “White” box if this person has origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa. This includes people who indicate their race as “White” or report entries such as Irish, German, Italian, Lebanese, ...

During debate over the draft of a new Kenyan constitution, James Orengo, the country’s minister of lands and a member of parliament for the Ugenya constituency, cited America’s election of a Kenyan-born president as an example of what can be accomplished when diverse peoples unite: The Kenyan lawmaker told the nation’s parliament last month that Barack Obama was born in Africa and is therefore “not even a native American.” The full quote; “If America was living in a situation where they feared ethnicity and did not see itself as a multiparty state or nation, how could a young man born here in Kenya, who is not even a native American, become the President of ...

Ex-Colt HB Tom Matte Asked to Run for 2nd Cong. Dist Rep from MD

Ex-Baltimore Colt Tom Matte has been asked to run as a Republican in the 2nd Congressional District against first term incumbent Dutch Ruppersberger-D, a Pelosi puppy. This story just broke on the 8AM newscast this morning. Dutch was ok and conservative and actually a nice guy as Baltimore County Executive but he is left of Lenin in Congress and I don't know how many times people have said Pelosi says "jump" and Dutch asks "how high". I consider Dutch to be very vulnerable since this district is actually more conservative than the state as a whole. Once you get away from Baltimore City, Prince Georges County (DC burb) and Montgomery County (another DC burb, full of ...

The fundamentals say Republicans on track to retake the House

The cut and run stunt by Bart Stupak Friday underscored the fact that things are getting worse for the Democrats. Seeing an 18 year veteran who drew 65% in 2008 and was a sure thing, leave suddenly is a symptom of deep problems for the Democrats. There are several fundamental reasons for conservative optimism as we look toward the November elections. Historically mid term elections produce losses for the presidents party. In Clinton’s first mid term election ( 1994) Democrats lost 52 seat and control of the House. Reagan lost 26 Republicans in 1982 which was exactly on the historic average. Senate losses average 3.4 seats in these elections. While Clinton had a 48% and Reagan a 42% ...

You know, in the Bush/Cheney years, there was a lot of talk about the abuses of the executive branch, particularly in relation to the Constitution. So in that light, I read this article with interest: U.S. Approves Targeted Killing Of American Cleric In short, President Obama has ordered the assassination of an U.S. citizen, Anwar al-Awlaki. To the best of anyone’s knowledge, not even Bush, Cheney, and his fellow neo-cons did that. Congratulations Mr. Obama, you have found yourself on the right of even some of the most right-wing of the conservative movement. And the folks on the right that you are not to the right to and are pleased to hear this? They are kind of crazy. This action ...

Ron Paul chastises at GOP conference: Conservatives ‘like the empire’

Texas Rep. Ron Paul proved once again Saturday that his politics continue to divide the Republican Party. He was met with both disapproval and applause during the Southern Republican Leadership Conference for describing conservatives as hypocritical when they call for a return to Constitutional values while supporting foreign wars. The conservatives and the liberals, they both like to spend. Conservatives spend money on different things. They like embassies, and they like occupation. They like the empire. They like to be in 135 countries and 700 bases. Don’t you think it’s rather conservative to say, ‘Oh it’s good to follow the Constitution. Oh, except for war. Let ...

A recent analysis by Roger Simon of PJTV Media maintains that Obama is showing signs of mental illness. A wide variety of commentators have observed that Obama displays severe narcissism. Obama is conceited, and he is demonstrating a serious disassociation from reality. A recent case in point was Obama's bizarre and meandering 17-minute, 2,500-word answer to the simple question about how he could justify raising taxes for ObamaCare during a recession when citizens are already overtaxed. Obama's wildly inappropriate answer left the audience stunned and led commentator Charles Krauthammer to mockingly say, "I don't know why you are so surprised. It’s only nine times the ...
