9.7% unemployment and Democrats are making America safe from “carry on bags” Post Date: 2010-04-15 11:51:04 by no gnu taxes

I have never understood airline pricing and fees and I certainly am not going to defend a crazy system of charges. But its no crazier then the myriad of taxes placed on an airline ticket by government. What I do know is when the government steps in and begins telling business what it can and cannot charge for, it is one more symptom of a government out of control and one more roadblock to profitability and jobs. Enter Senator Chuck Schumer (D,NY) and the populist Democrats. November looms larger and what is the party of the people doing? Why, they continue to propose legislation that paints them as populist, but in reality paints them as out of touch ...

This is up from 10.5 percent in February. Last year, the March rate was 9.0. This makes 30 months in a row that Georgias unemployment has been higher than the national rate which is currently at 9.7 percent.
The Hypocrisy of Congressman Ron Paul Post Date: 2010-04-15 11:00:27 by no gnu taxes

In the past Ron Paul has never been on my radar. Sure there were the anti-black/ anti-Semitic Newsletters which were published under his name (which he claimed he never read). And yes there were those really whacko public statements like; the federal reserve was behind Watergate, that Lincoln was wrong to push us into a Civil War over slavery, or his assertion that condemning the HAMAS terrorist rocket attacks promotes violence. But those items only suggest that the Texas Republican Congressman is a bigot as well as a bit of a lunatic, which not bad by today's congressional standards. Ron Paul is believed to be a "fiscal conservative" and if you ask him he will tell you that ...
We have the Obama Depression, Iranian nukes, and Islamic terrorism and the Democrats are concerned about -- baseball players chewing tobacco. You can't make this shit up. Post Date: 2010-04-15 09:28:16 by no gnu taxes

After hounding Major League Baseball and its players union over steroids, Congress now wants the sport to ban smokeless tobacco. "Good luck," San Francisco Giants reliever Brandon Medders said. "Guys do what they do. We work outside. It's been part of the game for 100 years." At a hearing Wednesday, House Energy and Commerce Committee chairman Henry Waxman, a California Democrat, and Health Subcommittee chairman Frank Pallone, a New Jersey Democrat, called on baseball and its players to agree to bar major leaguers from using chew, dip or similar products during games. MLB executive VP Robert Manfred and MLB Players Association chief labor counsel David Prouty told ...
Obama and Democrats Don’t Understand U.S. Economy, Would Get Answer Wrong on Citizenship Test (The Obama Depression) Post Date: 2010-04-15 08:53:42 by no gnu taxes

President Barack Obama and Democrats in Congress probably could not correctly answer question number 11 on the test required to become a naturalized U.S. citizen, Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) said on Wednesday. Question number 11 on the 100-question citizenship test asks, What is the economic system of the United States? The two correct answers are: Capitalist Economy and Market Economy. Even though there would be some people in the White House that would fail this test, if you look at the naturalization flash cards, if you want to become a naturalized American citizen
[the flashcard] will ask, What is the economic system of the United States? Flip that ...

Anyone watching recent events incorporated by Obama has got to wonder were we, as a nation, are going. As a recent caller indicated on a call-in to the Rush Limbaugh Show the deficit is sky rocketing. Its going ballistic with no downturn. On 4/2, the federal debt was estimated at $12 BILLION by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) They expect a debt of $20 BILLION by 2020. But what most dont seem to realize, is that Obama may want the deficit to get that high. Recent statistics show at this point in time, 50% of Americans dont actually pay any federal income taxes. In other words, the highest wage earners (those making more than $200,000/yr) and corporate entities are ...

A record number of U.S. homes were lost to foreclosure in the first three months of this year, a sign banks are starting to wade through the backlog of troubled home loans at a faster pace, according to a new report. RealtyTrac Inc. said Thursday that the number of U.S. homes taken over by banks jumped 35 percent in the first quarter from a year ago. In addition, households facing foreclosure grew 16 percent in the same period and 7 percent from the last three months of 2009. More homes were taken over by banks and scheduled for a foreclosure sale than in any quarter going back to at least January 2005, when RealtyTrac began reporting the data, the firm said. "We're right now on ...

Tea Party supporters are wealthier and more well-educated than the general public, and are no more or less afraid of falling into a lower socioeconomic class, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll. The 18 percent of Americans who identify themselves as Tea Party supporters tend to be Republican, white, male, married and older than 45. They hold more conservative views on a range of issues than Republicans generally. They are also more likely to describe themselves as very conservative and President Obama as very liberal. And while most Republicans say they are dissatisfied with Washington, Tea Party supporters are more likely to classify ...
Tax Day Rhetoric Aside, Americans' Bills Are Lower Post Date: 2010-04-15 00:26:52 by Brian S

(04-14) 20:36 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) -- You wouldn't know it by the Tax Day rhetoric, but Americans are paying lower taxes this year, even with increases passed by many states to balance their budgets. Don't expect it to last. Congress cut individuals' federal taxes for this year by about $173 billion shortly after President Barack Obama took office, dwarfing the $28.6 billion in increases by states. In the next few years, however, many can expect to pay more. Some future increases were enacted as part of Obama's health care overhaul. And former President George W. Bush's tax cuts expire in January. Obama and the Democrats want to renew only some of them, thus raising ...

Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) on Monday praised embattled Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, saying he's done well in fundraising and has reached out to him. Several Republicans have called on Steele to resign since a high-profile donor scandal rocked the RNC several weeks ago. But the chairman has found several high-profile supporters within the party since he promised to impose greater accountability on the party's reimbursement practices. "He's raised a lot of money. So, in any way, he's winning -- he's the first Republican chairman who has had, you know, at least reached out to me, at least would talk to me," he said in an interview on CNN. ...

"I'm absolutely in the race and I will not pull out for any controversy," Paladino said Tuesday on Talk 1300 AM in Albany. He described himself as a "very determined person" who is "on a mission." And he accused his political enemies from Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, who is expected to run for governor on the Democratic ticket, and state GOP Chairman Ed Cox of ...

Stacy Drake wrote earlier about the obsession the main stream media has with Sarah Palins earnings. Now, it has been reported that Palin has earned an estimated $12 million dollars since leaving office as Governor of Alaska. It is estimated because the MSM sat down and put a pencil to it, carried the 1, practiced their gazintas, and came up with a number. They had to do that because they dont know the actual number. Sarah Palin is a private citizen and doesnt have to tell the press what she earns, you know, like you and me. Once the press came up with number and everyone on the left shouted Harumph, they began writing nasty stories about her earnings. ...
Obama is a Miserable Failure Post Date: 2010-04-14 13:00:16 by no gnu taxes

Barack Obama has a marvelous way of sounding innovative, fresh, and novel while offering stale, predictable bromides. His policies at home are an extension of LBJs old Great Society. Abroad weve been getting a more sonorous version of Jimmy Carters global self-righteous sermonizing. The public wanted a racially transcendent figure and got instead a Chicago ward boss. The problem now for Mr. Obama reflected in growing popular discontent is that on matters of debt, taxes, energy, jobs, and race, he apparently has very little new to offer. He just serves up in new wording the them/us divides of the past. We are at a point where each new proposed federal ...
There Was No Massachusetts Miracle In S. Florida, Democrat Ted Deutch Won The Nation't First Congressional Election Of 2010 Post Date: 2010-04-14 12:07:30 by Brian S

There was no Massachusetts Miracle in South Florida Tuesday. Democrat Ted Deutch won the nation's first congressional election of 2010, allowing his party to retain the overwhelmingly Democratic Palm Beach-Broward District 19 seat that "fire-breathing liberal" Robert Wexler represented for 13 years. Incomplete returns late Tuesday showed Deutch with a sizeable lead over Republican Ed Lynch and no-party candidate Jim McCormick. Lynch conceded the race before 10 p.m. "This is a victory for the community and it's a victory about issues," Deutch told hundreds of supporters who chanted "Ted! Ted! Ted!" at a party in Boca Raton. Estimates put it in the range of 15 cents a gallon. Some oil companies are on board with the plan because it would cost them far less than other proposals to cut greenhouse gas emissions. Leading voices in the Senate are considering a new tax on gasoline as part of an effort to win Republican and oil industry support for the energy and climate bill now idling in Congress. The tax, which according to early estimates would be in the range of 15 cents a gallon, was conceived with the input of several oil companies, including Shell, BP and ConocoPhillips, and is being championed by Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina. It is shaping up as a critical but controversial piece ...

After candidates complain to organizers, Orly Taitz's speaking engagement is withdrawn. Taitz has been a leading voice in the discredited 'birther' movement. Several California Republican political candidates, including Senate hopeful Carly Fiorina, were scheduled to share the stage this week with one of the leaders of the "birther" movement that claims President Obama was not born in this country and is thus ineligible for his elected office. Orly Taitz, an Orange County attorney who has gone to court many times to try to disqualify Obama, was invited to speak Thursday at a Tax Day Tea Party rally in Pleasanton, Calif., that is expected to draw thousands of people. ...

Inquiry of university group widens Alleged document shredding prompts deeper scrutiny of Cal State Stanislaus Foundation. California Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown said Tuesday that he was launching an expanded investigation into the finances and actions of a Cal State Stanislaus foundation that has invited former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to give a speech, after allegations that it may have illegally discarded documents related to the event. Brown already was investigating whether the Cal State Stanislaus Foundation violated the California Public Records Act when it refused the request of state Sen. Leland Yee (D-San Francisco) to hand over documents related to Palin's speaking fee and other ...
Another Obama Foreign Policy Failure. Syria Gave Hezbollah Scuds. Post Date: 2010-04-14 11:19:23 by no gnu taxes

President Obama's strategy of reaching out to despots has suffered another failure. Shortly after he took office in 2009, President Obama sent a high ranking delegation to Damascus as part of the new administration's policy of "engagement." Syria has now responded to that policy change by giving Hezbollah long-range Scud missiles. That is change we could have done without. The WSJ reported: JERUSALEMSyria has transferred long-range Scud missiles to the Lebanese Shiite militant group Hezbollah, Israeli and U.S. officials alleged, in a move that threatens to alter the Middle East's military balance and sets back a major diplomatic outreach effort to Damascus by ...
Obama's Mortgage Aid Program a Dramatic Failure Post Date: 2010-04-14 11:12:00 by no gnu taxes

A watchdog panel overseeing the financial bailouts says the Obama administration's flagship mortgage aid program lags well behind the foreclosure crisis and leaves too many families out. The Congressional Oversight Panel says in a report released Wednesday that the administration projects only one million families will end up with lower monthly payments as a result of the program. The report says six million families are more than two months behind with their payments, and 200,000 more families receive foreclosure notices each month. A year and a half after launching the program, "Treasury is still fighting to get its foreclosure programs off the ground," Elizabeth Warren, ...

One Economy, Two Spins -- Economic Conditions Portrayed as Positive During Clinton Presented as Negative for Bush Post Date: 2010-04-14 10:10:57 by no gnu taxes

The media have hammered President George W. Bush on the employment issue despite 13 straight months of positive job creation and other good economic news. The October 8, 2004 jobs report was the latest evidence that they treat Bush far more critically than they treated President Bill Clinton on the same issue sometimes even for the same results. The data indicated that the economy added 96,000 new jobs in September and nearly a quarter million adjusted to the totals earlier in the year. But media reports spun the new job numbers as a strong negative and stories either totally ignored the quarter-million job adjustment or buried it. This is not primarily a problem of economic ...
Contrast Headlines From 2003 to Those Today: US jobless recovery hurts Bush (unemployment was 6%) Post Date: 2010-04-14 09:36:29 by no gnu taxes

The US economy may be on the mend, but the jobless recovery may not be enough to help President Bush in his election bid. America's recession is over and the recovery has begun. At least that's what the statistics say - but it doesn't necessarily feel like it to the 9 million Americans who are out of work. Last month 44,000 jobs vanished, and the unemployment rate stood at 6.2%. One of those belonged to Scott, an accountant. In their crowded apartment in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Scott and his wife Elizabeth are worried. "It sure feels like a recession," Scott says. "You never know when you are going to be downsized or no longer needed." ...

The Congressional Oversight Panel that keeps track of the TARP has a message for the Administration: The home loan modification program is moving so slowly that it cannot come close to matching the rate at which mortgages fall into default. In its April report, the body said that Home Affordable Modification Program was not working. Treasurys response continues to lag well behind the pace of the crisis. The report added As of February 2010, only 168,708 homeowners have received final, five-year loan modifications a small fraction of the 6 million borrowers who are presently 60+ days delinquent on their loans. What the report did not address entirely is ...

Here is a recent summary from the "Morning Bell" on the failure of the Obama team to create jobs. He could have stimulated the economy more by simply handing each of the umemployed one large check rather than the unwieldy stimulus program that was an overall failure. The last paragraph of this article sums it up very nicely. The government has no money of its own. They only get money by taking ours. -- On February 11th, President Barack Obama stood on a windy hilltop in front of a dusty construction site in Fairfax County, Virginia, and promised the American people: Here in Virginia, my plan will create or save almost 100,000 jobs, doing work at sites just like this ...
