Oil Flow Is Stemmed, but Could Resume, Official Says Post Date: 2010-05-28 09:14:50 by war

HOUSTON By injecting solid objects as well as heavy drilling fluid into the stricken well leaking oil into the Gulf of Mexico overnight, engineers appeared to have stemmed the flow of oil, Adm. Thad W. Allen of the Coast Guard, the leader of the government effort, said on Friday morning. But he stressed that the next 12 to 18 hours will be very critical in permanently stanching what is already the worst oil spill in United States history. Admiral Allen, who spoke on ABCs Good Morning America show, said the biggest challenge will be to sustain the top kill effort, which involves pumping material into the well to counteract the upward pressure of the ...

The Department of Homeland Security is trying to deport the son of a Hamas founder who told of his conversion to Christianity and decade of spying for Israel in a New York Times best-seller. "Son of Hamas" author Mosab Hassan Yousef revealed on a blog hosted by his publisher he is scheduled to appear June 30 before Immigration Judge Rico J. Bartolomei at the DHS Immigration Court in San Diego. Yousef said the DHS informed him Feb. 23, 2009, he was barred from asylum in the U.S. because there were reasonable grounds for believing he was "a danger to the security of the United States" and "engaged in terrorist activity." An incredulous Yousef said the U.S. ...
Pentagon: Let Us Secure Your Network or Face the ‘Wild Wild West’ Internet Alone Post Date: 2010-05-27 22:09:23 by A K A Stone

Companies that operate critical infrastructures and do not voluntarily allow the federal government to install monitoring software on their networks to detect possible cyberattacks would face the “wild” internet on their own and place us all at risk, a top Pentagon official seemed to say Wednesday.
Defense Deputy Secretary William Lynn III, speaking at the Strategic Command Cyber Symposium in Nebraska, said we need to think imaginatively about how to use the National Security Agency’s Einstein monitoring systems on critical private-sector networks — such as those in the financial, utility and communication industries — in order to protect us.
“Operators of critical infrastructure ...

The TPFDL is updated biennially through U.S./ROK agreements. CINCUNC/CFC OPLAN 5027 is distributed with a SECRET-U.S./ROK classification. Inexplicably, the deployment of bureaucrats and lawyers failed to contain the massive off shore oil spill. By all accounts, BPs top kill strategy has been a success. Though to hear Obama tell it, he donned his frogman gear and plugged the leak single handedly. Next up: Obama learns people have been killed in a car accident, prompting him to sign an executive order outlawing motorized vehicles. With, of course, exemptions for his staff, congress and SEIU thugs. Why do we need cars or oil anyway? Its not as if Americans have jobs to drive to anymore.

Professor Tim Congdon of International Monetary Research says, Its frightening! In an interview with the UK Telegraph, Congdon reacted to the latest estimates that the M3 money supply of the Federal Reserve has dropped from $14.2 Trillion to $13.9 Trillion dollars in just three months. The plunge in M3 has no precedent since the Great Depression. Despite the happy-slappy statistics emanating regularly from the Obama administration, the Federal Reserve stopped publicizing their M3 numbers years ago. But by tracking various other components, including the assets and debts of major banks, a crude estimate can be derived. The bottom-line is simple, Obamas ...

KENNER, La.More details emerged Wednesday about a disagreement between employees of rig operator Transocean Ltd. and oil giant BP PLC over how to begin shutting down the well just hours before it exploded in the Gulf of Mexico last month. Testimony on Wednesday about the disagreement, in a hearing held by the U.S. Coast Guard and the Minerals Management Service, which jointly regulate offshore drilling, was likely to bring increased scrutiny to the decisions BP made aboard the rig the day of the explosion, April 20. There was also likely to be more focus on whether Transocean should have done more to ensure proper procedures were carried out. Douglas H. Brown, Transocean's ...
Army Corps Eng: Barrier Plan Could Push Oil Onto MISS Post Date: 2010-05-27 13:22:39 by war

A wall of sand that Louisiana officials have requested to block the Gulf of Mexico slick could instead funnel oil into more unprotected areas and into neighboring Mississippi, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said in documents released Wednesday. Gov. Bobby Jindal and leaders from several coastal parishes want to ring the state's southeastern coastline with a $350 million, 86-mile network of sand berms. However, the corps says the barrier could inadvertently alter tides and end up driving oil east - into Mississippi Sound, the Biloxi Marshes and Lake Borgne. A top Louisiana official said that scenario was unlikely and criticized the corps for coming up with excuses to delay the plan. ...
The Worst Money Supply Plunge Since The Depression Means A Double Dip Is Now A ‘Virtual Certainty’ Post Date: 2010-05-27 12:14:53 by no gnu taxes

The stock of U.S. money as measured by M382; money supply fell to $13.9 trillion from $14.2 trillion during the three months ending in April. This 9.6% annualized contraction is unprecedented in the post-Depression era, and shows how, in this sense, America isnt printing more money. There are actually less dollars in the system since U.S. money supply is crashing, even well into the recent economic recovery. The positive take on this is that we dont have to worry about either inflation or the Fed tightening significantly any time soon. The negative take is that this crashing money supply will lead to both deflation and a double dip recession: Telegraph: ...

When Sarah Palin called into Glenn Beck's radio show yesterday, the conversation turned to her new neighbor, unauthorized biographer Joe McGinniss. So how's Palin dealing with the journalist next door? "Todd and his buddies started a fence yesterday and it's looking good," Palin said. "It's about 14 feet high. That's what we're going to have to do this summer, I guess." It looks like her husband Todd and his friends work quickly. Fox News host Greta Van Susteren has posted a photo of the finished fence on her blog, noting that it's there "to protect against the 'Wasilla Stalker.'" Beck, who blasted McGinniss and his ...

Earlier this week, I watched Ken Salazar during a press conference from Louisiana promise that we would not rest until ALL the oil was cleaned up. We obviously does not include his boss, Obama. Who is taking his second vacation since the Deep Water Horizon exploded, killing 11 crew members. Hell, even his fans in the Liberal blogosphere are starting to doubt Obamas response to the spill: I dont know if its about money, or if its still about trying to play nice with Republicans and business interests who are already abandoning the Democratic Party in favor of the Republicans, but Barack Obamas tin ear about making even symbolic ...

It began last November in statewide races in Virginia and New Jersey. Then it swept through Massachusetts in a stunning U.S. Senate special election this January. Most recently, it has spilled over into primary battles in Utah, Kentucky and Pennsylvania growing more potent as the calendar year advances toward a climactic November 2010 showdown. It is the ongoing, unequivocal public repudiation of the agenda of President Barack Obama a seismic shift in the thinking of the American electorate regarding the sort of change they want for their country. In several races it is also a direct rejection of Obama himself as evidenced by the ...

HOUSTON The latest effort to plug a gushing underwater oil well in the Gulf of Mexico appeared to be working, officials and engineers said on Thursday morning, though definitive word on its success was still hours away. At the same time, government experts said that the flow of oil from the well, which has been gushing since an explosion and fire wrecked a drilling rig in late April, was several times worse than the preliminary estimate by BP, the oil company responsible for the rig and the well. And The Associated Press reported on Thursday that the head of the agency responsible for regulating offshore oil drilling had been dismissed. BP began the well-plugging maneuver, known ...

OKLAHOMA CITY Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry late Wednesday vetoed an abortion bill that would put strict limits on when private health insurers can cover the procedure. The bill includes exceptions for cases of rape, incest or to prevent the death of the mother. Coverage for abortions could be obtained through a separate supplemental policy. The bill is meant to prevent state insurance exchanges, created under the new federal health care law, from covering most abortions, said state Rep. Skye McNiel, R-Bristow. But it also extends the ban to health insurance plans outside state exchanges that operate within Oklahoma. Henry, a Democrat, said the legislation would punish victims of rape ...

BP Used Riskier Method to Seal Oil Well Before Blast Post Date: 2010-05-27 08:04:22 by war

WASHINGTON Several days before the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig, BP officials chose, partly for financial reasons, to use a type of casing for the well that the company knew was the riskier of two options, according to a BP document. The concern with the method BP chose, the document said, was that if the cement around the casing pipe did not seal properly, gases could leak all the way to the wellhead, where only a single seal would serve as a barrier. Using a different type of casing would have provided two barriers, according to the document, which was provided to The New York Times by a Congressional investigator. Workers from the rig and company officials have ...
BP Exec: We'll Know We're Successful if the Drilling Mud Stops Flowing Post Date: 2010-05-27 01:26:20 by Brian S

As of late Wednesday night the success of BP's latest attempt to staunch the flow of oil pouring into the Gulf of Mexico remains unknown, but a top BP executive observing the live oil spill camera feed is saying tonight that what we're seeing leaking out now is mostly drilling mud. According to BP Chief Operating Officer, David Suttles, if we see that drilling mud stop flowing out the leak the operation will have been a success. Coined "Operation Top Kill" by BP, the plan is to pump oil drilling mud into the broken pipe to reverse the flow oil back into the well and then cap it. Here's the live feed, cross your fingers that by tomorrow night there is nothing ...

The Republican Party has created a web site where Americans can express themselves on various topics. Let's see what they have to say about "American Prosperity". We could save a lot of money through product standardization. For example, it should be illegal for stores to sell hot dogs in packs of 10 and buns in packs of 8. This site should only be open to Americans. Otherwise subversive outsiders may come in and post insidious ideas. I think it's high time that some of our most promising leaders like the brilliant Michele Bachman should have the guts stand up and loudly proclaim that we are One Nation under GOD, not under allah or socialism. It should be called RULE ...
