Proposed Bill Would Require IDs for Prepaid Cell Phones Post Date: 2010-05-30 21:41:23 by A K A Stone

Senator Chuck Schumer (D-New York) and Senator John Coryn (R-Texas) have proposed a piece of legislation that would require consumers to present an ID before purchasing a prepaid cell phone, and would force direct providers to keep those customers information on file for 18 months after deactivation. The bill comes on the heels of the failed Times Square bombing by Faisal Shahzad, who purportedly used a prepaid phone to arrange the purchase of the Nissan Pathfinder used in the plot. This proposal is overdue because for years, terrorists, drug kingpins and gang members have stayed one step ahead of the law by using prepaid phones that are hard to trace, Schumer told the ...

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- White House energy czar Carol Browner says BP's next effort to contain the oil spewing from a damaged well in the Gulf could result in a temporary 20 percent increase in the flow. BP's latest attempt to stem the leak involves cutting and removing a damaged pipe. Browner said in a news release Sunday that government scientists believe the oil gusher would increase as much as 20 percent from the time the pipe is cut to when a containment valve is in place. BP spokesman John Curry did not know how much time would pass between the procedures. The operation began Saturday and is expected to take four to seven days. BP PLC Chief Operating Office Doug Suttles said ...
What Our Media Taught Me (Blame Obama!) Post Date: 2010-05-30 15:56:22 by no gnu taxes

Ive been over here in Europe for about ten days, getting a different perspective on our illustrious media and how it is handling the various Obama troubles. Perspective and distance are sometime valuable. I used to think, given the enormous size of the bureaucracy and the tragic nature of the human condition, that from time to time disasters would overwhelm us and there would be not much the president of the United States could do about them. But after Katrina, the media taught me that neither the mayor nor the governor nor the Army Corps of Engineers nor the people of New Orleans were at fault for either the vulnerability to the chance of a catastrophic Katrina or ...
Peggy Noonan Mugged by Reality: The Kenyan Really is Incompetent Post Date: 2010-05-30 13:03:02 by no gnu taxes

During the Campaign and the first days of Spamalot, Peggy spoke so glowingly and eloquently about the Boy from Hope and Change. He had charisma, he was a leader, a prophet, a sage, a guru, a new form of energy, a messenger, a new hope, a fiscal conservative, a political moderate, he could recite the Koran from memory and he knew all the words to the latest rap songs, he inspired the young, he gave strength to the elderly, made us look good to a jaded world; he was the Ossiah, the ONE! All the time, I was wondering what the fuck was the matter with Peggy Noonan? Finally, reality and Peggy had a head on collision and it's not pretty. Yes, Peggy, Obama really is an Ideologue and a total ...

ROBERT, La. (AP) -- BP admitted defeat Saturday in its attempt to plug the Gulf of Mexico oil leak by pumping mud into a busted well, but said it's preparing yet another method to fight the spill after a series of failures. BP PLC Chief Operating Officer Doug Suttles said the company determined the "top kill" method had failed after after it spent three days pumping heavy drilling mud into the crippled well 5,000 feet underwater. "This scares everybody, the fact that we can't make this well stop flowing, the fact that we haven't succeeded so far," Suttles said. "Many of the things we're trying have been done on the surface before, but have never ...

In the dead of night, a Senate surpriseHow the tide turned on illegal immigrantsBy Noah Bierman, Globe Staff | May 29, 2010 It was late Wednesday night, hour 11 of a grueling state budget debate, and senators were arguing over another contentious amendment on illegal immigration. Republicans were hammering Democrats for going too soft. Leading Democrats were quietly pushing to make a deal to quell the criticism. Thats when Senate President Therese Murray banged her gavel temporarily freezing action on the floor and effectively changing the course of the immigration debate in Massachusetts. Murray, who had shown little appetite for a headline-grabbing crackdown on ...

(May 29) -- Conservative talk show host Glenn Beck has apologized for a segment on his radio program in which he made fun of President Barack Obama's 11-year-old daughter, imitating her in a childish high-pitched voice and criticizing her intelligence. Beck issued an apology on his website Friday after bloggers and parents objected to the tirade from Beck, who in the past has argued that the media should "leave families alone." In his radio show, "The Glenn Program" on Premiere Radio Networks, Beck mocked Malia Obama for asking her father if he'd managed to stop oil from continuing to spill out into the Gulf of Mexico. late thirties, he rhythmically moves along a worn dirt path that parallels the Boulevard, a teal shadow gliding beside him in the matted grass. He turns in, heading towards Great Kills Beach, loose clothing perspiration darkened, neck and face flushed. His ...

White House Admits To Sestak Offer! (These guys can't even spin competently) Post Date: 2010-05-28 13:29:32 by no gnu taxes

Here is the complete memo, with all its admissions and attempts to every thing we offered Sestak was of no value so why make the offer??? The offer and the desired result are clearly delineated in this passage: The White House Chief of Staff enlisted the support of former President Bill Clinton who agreed to raise with Congressman Sestak options of service on a Presidential or other Senior Executive Branch Advisory Board. Congressman Sestak declined the suggested alternatives, remaining committed to his Senate candidacy. It doesnt get any more damning than this. There was an offer to have him not run. The value of the offer is immaterial. The WH admits THEIR ...

Bankruptcy talk spreads among Calif. muni officials Jim Christie SAN FRANCISCO Thu May 27, 2010 4:51pm EDT Mon, May 24 2010SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Two years after Vallejo, California, filed for bankruptcy protection, officials in nearby Antioch are also tossing around the 'B' word. U.S. Antioch's leaders earlier this month said bankruptcy could be an option for the cash-strapped city of roughly 100,000 on the eastern fringe of the San Francisco Bay area. Antioch's fiscal woes are standard issue for local governments in California: weak revenue from retail sales and property taxes is forcing spending cuts, layoffs and furloughs. But cost-cutting measures may not be ...

Paul, who a week ago won the GOP primary, told a Russian TV station in a clip circulating on political Web sites Friday that he wants to block citizenship to those children. The remark was made in the interview done with RT, which has an English-language broadcast, shortly after his Kentucky primary victory over GOP establishment candidate Trey Grayson. Susan Collins (R-M.E.) are demanding answers following the Investigative Project on Terrorisms discovery that taxpayer money is going to the radical Dar al-Hijrah mosque of Falls Church, Virginia. The revelation is an unsettling reminder of how jihadists are using Americas freedoms and ineptitude of the government to their advantage. The Investigative Project on Terrorism has found that the Census Bureau has been paying Dar al-Hijrah about $23,000 per month since November 2008 to rent space in one of its buildings. The State Department has used the mosque ...

The hint of a White House bribe helped U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak in the Democratic primary for the Pennsylvania US Senate seat. But it will be a liability in the general election. In an environment of massive anti-incumbent sentiment, it was advantageous to Sestak to differentiate himself from the self-serving Arlen Specter, who had switched parties to gain Obamas sponsorship in hopes of saving his place in the Senate. One does not reach a high level in the military without being socially and politically prudent, and Sestak rose to the rank of three-star Admiral. He was also street-savvy enough to win two terms in Congress after that. Yet one can understand how he was tempted to let the ...

(CNN) BP's top official, who had previously said the environmental impact on the Gulf of Mexico would be modest, upgraded his assessment Friday to an "environmental catastrophe" during an interview with American Morning's John Roberts. Also Friday, engineers in the Gulf tried the "junk shot" method in an attempt to stop a massive oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico, BP's chief executive Tony Hayward said. The procedure involved shooting debris such as shredded rubber tires, golf balls and similar objects into the blowout preventer in an attempt to clog it and stop the leak. The goal of the junk shot is to force-feed the preventer, the device that failed ...

Heterophobic Hate rears its ugly head!End of Army Gay Ban Is an Attack on HeterosexualsAttack on Heterosexuals is an Attack on AmericaFrom Richard Evans Military culture has impacted American society all along, because war is generational - and now, permanent. I predict the suicide rate will go up due to gay officers and sergeants singling out new recruits to intimidate into sodomy. There will be homosexual gang rapes, which will unreported, since it will be worse for the victim than if they say nothing, or commit suicide - just like prisons. C/o's can punish or coerce through threat or reassignment of straight soldiers to queer outfits. Only a predominantly gay Congress ...

Black politicians show an unshakable support for each other regardless of incompetence, bungling or even criminal behavior. Unfortunately Blacks seem to have little understanding of our Bill of Rights, and some Black politicians want to criminalize dissent. An article on Boston.com reports that [Massachusetts] Governor Deval Patrick, even as he decried partisanship in Washington, said today that Republican opposition to President Obamas agenda has become so obstinate that it is almost at the level of sedition. The Democratic governor, who is close to the president, made the comments at a forum at Suffolk Law Schools Rappaport Center, where he was asked by an ...

The provision would allow military commanders to repeal the ban. The repeal would permit gay men and lesbians to serve openly in the military for the first time. It was adopted as an amendment to the annual Pentagon policy bill, which the House is expected to vote on Friday. The repeal would be allowed 60 days after a Pentagon report is completed on the ramifications of allowing openly gay service members, and military leaders certify ...
Estimates Suggest Spill Is Biggest in U.S. History Post Date: 2010-05-28 09:16:13 by war

Federal officials said Thursday that far more oil than they originally estimated was probably pouring into the Gulf of Mexico on a daily basis since the collapse of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig. The new estimate 12,000 to 19,000 barrels a day is two to five times higher than the 5,000 barrels a day figure given by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on April 28, and establishes the oil spill as the largest in American history. The government has been harshly criticized by scientists for underestimating the rate of the flow and for what appears to be its reluctance to force BP, the oil giant that owned the lease on the well, to more precisely measure the ...
