S.C. Gubernatorial Candidate Denies Claim of Second Affair Published June 03, 2010 COLUMBIA, S.C. -- A South Carolina lobbyist resigned from a rival political campaign on Wednesday and then became the second man to claim he had a tryst with a Republican lawmaker trying to become the state's first female governor. Lobbyist Larry Marchant admitted he had no proof to back up his allegation of a one-night stand with state Rep. Nikki Haley in 2008 and her campaign vehemently denied the allegation. The claim became the latest political drama for a state that was roiled when Gov. Mark Sanford made a tearful confession last summer to sneaking out of the country to rendezvous with an ...

Just after his big Republican Primary win last month, Rand Paul led his Democratic opponent Jack Conway by 25 points in Kentuckys U.S. Senate race. Now Pauls lead is down to just eight points. Now, however, Paul holds a much smaller advantage. The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey finds the GOP nominee with support from 49% of the states voters while Conway earns 41% of the vote. Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided. Almost all candidates receive a bounce following a big victory and Paul clearly lost his post-primary bounce. But he added to the decline by quickly stumbling out of the gate in an interview on ...
Obama: Impeachment or Resignation Post Date: 2010-06-03 08:48:27 by no gnu taxes

Barack Obama will either resign the Presidency or be removed from office through impeachment, possibly before the end of the year, but definitely before the end of his term." I wrote the above on April 29. Now with the story coming out about former Colorado Speaker of the House Andrew Romanoff, this scandal may start to snowball. What we are seeing now may be just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. I remember Watergate. The Sestak/Romanoff affair has the same feel as it is starting to roll out. President Nixon truly believed that because he was President he was above the law. Mr. Obama displays the same arrogant attitude: "There are some areas where my authority is ...

WASHINGTON The Obama administration dangled the possibility of a government job for former Colorado House Speaker Andrew Romanoff last year in hopes he would forgo a challenge to Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet, officials said Wednesday, just days after the White House admitted orchestrating a job offer in the Pennsylvania Senate race. These officials declined to specify the job that was floated or the name of the administration official who approached Romanoff, and said no formal offer was ever made. They spoke on condition of anonymity, saying they were not cleared to discuss private conversations. "Mr. Romanoff was recommended to the White House from Democrats in Colorado ...
U.S. Says No, but Nuclear Option for Spill Gains Support Post Date: 2010-06-02 21:42:22 by Brian S

The chatter began weeks ago as armchair engineers brainstormed for ways to stop the torrent of oil spilling into the Gulf of Mexico: What about nuking the well? Decades ago, the Soviet Union reportedly used nuclear blasts to successfully seal off runaway gas wells, inserting a bomb deep underground and letting its fiery heat melt the surrounding rock to shut off the flow. Why not try it here? The idea has gained fans with each failed attempt to stem the leak and each new setback on Wednesday, the latest rescue effort stalled when a wire saw being used to slice through the riser pipe got stuck. Probably the only thing we can do is create a weapon system and send it down 18,000 ...

The blast killed 11 workers. Since then, oil has been pouring into the Gulf from a blown-out undersea well. OVERVIEW As the crude crept closer to Florida, the risky effort to contain the nation's worst oil spill hit a snag Wednesday. Military chiefs split with Mullen on gays - DEAL RUSHES REPEAL ON BAN Post Date: 2010-06-02 20:03:05 by HAPPY2BME-ONLF

Military chiefs split with Mullen on gays The debate over gays in the military has driven an extraordinary public wedge between the nation's highest-ranking military officer and the four service chiefs who collectively make up the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Adm. Mike Mullen, Joint Chiefs chairman, in February first broke with the chiefs of the Navy, Air Force, Army and Marine Corps by endorsing President Obama's campaign pledge to end the military's ban on open homosexuals. The gap widened last week. Adm. Mullen approved a White House deal for Congress to go ahead with a vote on repeal of the law barring openly gay members from the military, rather than waiting for completion in ...

When Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal admitted last month to making misstatements about his military service, it took at least a week for the Democratic Senate candidate to move past the story. Rep. Mark Kirk, R-Illinois, who admitted over the weekend to falsely claiming he won the Navy Intelligence Officer of the Year Award, is now facing the same scrutiny. Kirk is the GOP nominee for the Senate seat held by President Barack Obama. Kirk's acknowledgment about claiming he won the award for his service during the Kosovo conflict 10 years ago came after his Democratic opponent, Alexi Giannoulias, raised questions about it with The Washington Post. Kirk highlighted the ...

Ever since polls have been taken there have been presidents who encountered disapproval during their terms in office. Usually history exonerates them to some degree. This is not likely to happen with Barack Obama. As this is written, a Politico.com polls puts Obamas job disapproval rating at 46.4% and Congress has a disapproval rate of 72%, a figure matched by Rasmussen Reports. Obamas disapproval rate according to Rasmussen was 44%. Polls, we are always told, are snapshots of public opinion at a given time, but the polls consistently tell us that the vast majority of Americans disapprove of the President and Congress, and believe the nation is headed in the wrong ...
BP Disaster Is Cheney’s Katrina; Bush Administration Actions Created Unsafe Circumstances Post Date: 2010-06-02 16:59:19 by Brian S

BPs oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico is without a doubt former Vice President Dick Cheneys Katrina. President George W. Bush and Cheney consistently catered to Big Oil and other special interests to undercut renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives that would set the United States on a more secure clean energy path. Oil companies raked in record profits while benefitting from policies they wrote for themselves. These energy policies did nothing for our national security and left consumers to pay the price at the pump and on their energy bills, which rose more than $1,100 during the Bush administration. The following timeline outlines the administrations ...

GOP's Lindsey Graham Out of Favor with Republicans Back Home South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham has often occupied the Washington spotlight because of a reputation of being a Republican willing to cross the aisle in hyper-partisan times, and staking out a place on key issues like closing the detainee prison at Guantanamo, climate change and immigration. But what may earn Graham the attention he gets in Washington is not doing much for him back home. Last October, the Republican county committee in Charlestown voted to censure Graham for some of his policy positions and two other county committees had come close to doing so. Plus, Graham's vote to confirm Supreme Court Justice ...

Palin Endorses Tea Partier Miller Over Murkowski [Daniel Foster] In a Facebook statement in which she lauds contested primaries as "good for America's political process" Sarah Palin has endorsed GOP challenger Joe Miller in his effort to unseat Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R.): Unfortunately, Lisa Murkowski and much of the political establishment have recently evolved into being a bigger part of the big government problem in Washington, and theyve strayed from the principles upon which they had espoused. They ushered in the largest increase in federal domestic spending since Lyndon Johnsons Great Society; its an increase in government that political machines may ...

Beating victim's father outraged by suspects' release Photo shows Shane McClellan after the brutal assault. SEATTLE -- The father of the teen who was brutally beaten in West Seattle last week is outraged by the investigators' release two men suspected in the case. Detectives said they collected DNA samples from two men they found roaming the streets in the minutes after the beating of 16-year-old Shane McClellan. They swabbed blood that had dried on the men's hands to compare with DNA samples found at the crime scene, detectives said. With DNA test results pending, police released the two unidentified men due to a lack of a full physical description. But the ...

Israel has attempted to deliver humanitarian aid from an international flotilla to Gaza, but Hamas -- which controls the territory -- has refused to accept the cargo, the Israel Defense Forces said Wednesday. Palestinian sources said trucks that arrived from Israel at the Rafah terminal at the Israel-Gaza border were barred from delivering the aid over protests that members of the flotilla were not delivering the materials. Israel had 20 trucks of aid found on the ships, such as expired medications, clothing, blankets, some medical equipment and toys. Nine people died on Monday when Israel intercepted an aid vessel bound for Gaza. Under Israeli policy, humanitarian aid must come through ...

June 2 (Bloomberg) -- BP Plcs failure since April to plug a Gulf of Mexico oil leak has prompted forecasts the crude may continue gushing into December in what President Barack Obama has called the greatest environmental disaster in U.S. history. BPs attempts so far to cap the well and plug the leak on the seabed a mile below the surface havent worked, while the start of the Atlantic hurricane season this week indicates storms in the Gulf may disrupt other efforts. The worst-case scenario is Christmas time, Dan Pickering, the head of research at energy investor Tudor Pickering Holt & Co. in Houston, said. This process is teaching us to be ...

Discontent with incumbents and anti-Washington anger are boosting the numbers. More than 2,300 people are running for the House and Senate in the midterms, the highest number in at least 35 years. That's according to data provided to The Associated Press from the Federal Election Commission, which began tracking candidates in 1975.
