FLASH BACK : U.S. Loan to Brazilian Oil Company Riles Conservatives in Favor of Offshore Drilling Post Date: 2010-06-14 16:06:24 by WhiteSands

President Obama has opposed any expanded oil drilling off American shores largely on environmental grounds, turning a deaf ear to conservative cries of "Drill, Baby, Drill." But now Obama may start hearing cries of "foul" after the U.S. Export-Import Bank promised Petrobras, Brazil's state-owned oil company, $2 billion in loan guarantees to help finance lucrative drilling off the shores of Rio De Janeiro. Some see a contradiction in an executive branch agency, independent but with board members appointed by the president, facilitating abroad the very kind of energy exploration Obama opposes domestically. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Thursday he ...

President Barack Obama will tomorrow night make his first address to the American people from the Oval Office, underlining the scale of the catastrophe now unfolding in the Gulf of Mexico and vowing to hold BP to account for the environmental damage wrought by its eight-week-old oil spill. His prime-time broadcast comes at the start of a crucial week in the response to the crisis. Senior politicians from the Obama administration and the Democratic hierarchy in Congress are lining up to step up the pressure on BP amid accusations that the disaster is spinning out of control. Obama is expected to use his Oval Office speech to outline plans to force the oil giant to set up an independently ...
Crisis Vampires Swoop In As Oil Continues To Spread In Gulf Post Date: 2010-06-14 15:22:46 by Brian S

In the land of oil and opportunity, BPs spill has brought a boon to some who least deserve it. Thats the sentiment held by charter and commercial fishermen from Louisiana marinas, the first hit by cascades of black destruction, to the Florida docks just getting their first bitter taste. These crisis vampires suck the money local boatmen claim as their own. For Ed Wall, a third-generation commercial fisherman based out of Pensacola, Fla., those vampires come in the form of doctors, lawyers and other rich folk with pleasure boats, swiping BP contracts right out from under him. Eds livelihood is on the water, but those who pay their way working in offices are reaping ...

Dems defend Etheridge, attack Breitbart Ben Smith June 14, 2010 Bob Etheridge's abject apology for roughing up an anonymous conservative videographer is being accompanied by a defense of the congressman from national Democrats. "Motives matter, and I think you can see who was behind this," said DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse just now. "This was a Republican party tracking operation. If it wasn't a party tracker or intern, why is the face blurred and why is the source hidden? You know if it had been a right wing blog, they'd identify themselves and they'd be booking this person on TV all day. Republicans know if they admit their involvement in this game of ...

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Six days before the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, a BP drilling engineer called the rig a "nightmare well" that had caused the company problems in the past. The comment by BP engineer Brian Morel came in an e-mail April 14. On April 20, the Deepwater Horizon rig explosion killed 11 people and sent tens of millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf in the nation's worst environmental disaster. The e-mail was among dozens of internal documents released Monday in Washington by the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which is investigating the explosion and its aftermath. Committee leaders said BP made a series of questionable ...

NEW YORK (AP) -- A Republican operative was indicted Monday on charges he exploited his political reputation to swindle $1.1 million from Mayor Michael Bloomberg, claiming he'd use funds to help guard against fraud during last fall's election but instead buying a house, prosecutors said. John Haggerty duped Bloomberg and his political advisers into giving the money to the state Independence Party to help with ballot security during the mayor's campaign for a third term, according to District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. Haggerty then laundered the money and used it for personal expenses in the months after the election, Vance said. Haggerty, who now works for Carl Paladino, ...

Reid Runs as Consummate Insider With 'No One Can Do More' Message Published June 14, 2010 | FOXNews.com As members of Congress across the country try to distance themselves from Washington by burnishing their "outsider" credentials, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is doing just the opposite -- he's embracing his incumbency as he seeks re-election in Nevada. After Republicans selected Tea Party favorite Sharron Angle last week to run against Reid, the Senate's No. 1 Democrat is trying to make the case back home that experience is good, and that his clout in the nation's capital is what brings jobs and funding to Nevada. BP Official Admits to Damage BENEATH THE SEA FLOOR Post Date: 2010-06-14 13:25:08 by Brian S

As I noted Tuesday, there is growing evidence that BP's oil well - technically called the "well casing" or "well bore" - has suffered damage beneath the level of the sea floor. The evidence is growing stronger and stronger that there is substantial damage beneath the sea floor. Indeed, it appears that BP officials themselves have admitted to such damage. This has enormous impacts on both the amount of oil leaking into the Gulf, and the prospects for quickly stopping the leak this summer. On May 31st, the Washington Post noted: Sources at two companies involved with the well said that BP also discovered new damage inside the well below the seafloor and that, as a ...

BP has hired Dick Cheney's former press flack, Anne Womack Kolton, to serve as the new "head of U.S. media relations" as the company deals with the PR disaster of the ongoing oil spill in the Gulf. Kolton was Cheney's press secretary during the 2004 campaign, and then moved to a job in public affairs at the Department of Energy. One of her tasks in her previous job was defending the administration's secret meetings with energy officials, even as courts were telling the White House to turn over documents about the task force: "We are ready to defend our principles in court. This goes to the heart of the presidency and to the ability of the president and vice ...

A Sunday school teacher who pleaded guilty to kidnapping and murdering a neighbor girl in Northern California is headed to prison for the rest of her life. A judge sentenced 29-year-old Melissa Huckaby to life without parole Monday as part of a plea deal that took the death penalty off the table. Huckaby entered her surprise plea last month to first-degree murder with the special circumstance of kidnapping in the death of Sandra Cantu of Tracy, whose body was found in a suitcase pulled from an irrigation pond. All other charges, including allegations that she sexually abused the 8-year-old girl, were dropped. Authorities have not released a possible motive for Huckaby.

(06-14) 09:58 PDT Langley, Ark. (AP) -- Crews on Monday found a 20th victim of a flash flood that swept through a popular campground, but they continued searching because authorities don't know if the body belonged to the last person thought to be missing. State police declined to identify the victim, who was found floating in the Little Missouri River. But Capt. Mike Fletcher said searchers weren't sure if the body matched the description of the last person they were looking for. Dozens of people were feared missing after the pre-dawn Friday flood, but authorities on Sunday narrowed their search to just one person known to have been camping at the Albert Pike Recreation Area. ...

The Hill newspaper reports that Obama spent Sunday afternoon golfing in sweltering heat. Meanwhile, the oil continues to gush from the sea floor and the spill is now spreading farther and farther. A massive plume of oil is now only a short distance offshore from Floridas Gulf beaches. Whats Obama doing about it? Has he issued a waiver for the Jones Act which would allow a number of foreign countries which have offered to send advanced ships to help capture the oil before it hits the beach? No. There is still no explanation from the White House as to why these offers have not been accepted. Coastguard Sent BP a Strongly Worded Letter Instead of taking any new action that ...

Obama compares the Gulf oil crisis to 911. ARE YOU SERIOUS
and the LEFT called GWB stupid? Welcome to Dumb and Dumber, the Obama edition. This President just cannot differentiate between Gulf and Golf. Yesterday, President Barack Hussein Obama told the POLITICO that the Gulf Coast BP oil spill disaster was like 911. You heard that correct, Obama compared a oil spill, ecological accident to a premeditated terrorist act like September 11, 2001. I wonder how the families who lost loved ones on 9-11 feel about the Presidents ridiculous comparison? Is it any wonder why Obamas ratings are falling in the polls, he can get nothing ...

He said the press corps saw her as an eccentric aunt, but he claimed most of the country never saw her as cranky and ideological: But that's not how she was seen by much of the country, which still viewed her as the groundbreaking correspondent she once was, not the cranky columnist she had become. So when Aunt ...

Last night, the most famous graduate of Cornell Cow College, Keith Olbermann, interviewed the newly minted Democrat candidate for the U.S. Senate, Alvin Greene, an international man of mystery so mysterious that the only possible explanation for his improbable win in the open South Carolina primary is that
hes a Republican plant! See for yourself: You cant make this stuff up, but of course the left can and does, routinely. Note that its Bill Press, another leftist journo-op, who introduces the notion that Greene is a Republican plant to Rep. Jim Clyburn (D, S.C.), who dutifully parrots it back, thus allowing Olbermann to put the idea to Greene as if ...
