Sea Creatures Flee Oil Spill, Gather Near Shore Post Date: 2010-06-16 20:40:04 by Brian S

GULF SHORES, Ala. (AP) -- Dolphins and sharks are showing up in surprisingly shallow water just off the Florida coast. Mullets, crabs, rays and small fish congregate by the thousands off an Alabama pier. Birds covered in oil are crawling deep into marshes, never to be seen again. Marine scientists studying the effects of the BP disaster are seeing some strange phenomena. Fish and other wildlife seem to be fleeing the oil out in the Gulf and clustering in cleaner waters along the coast in a trend that some researchers see as a potentially troubling sign. The animals' presence close to shore means their usual habitat is badly polluted, and the crowding could result in mass die-offs as ...
The President's Oil Reserves Lie Post Date: 2010-06-16 18:04:26 by reaganisright

Tuesday night, following a tour of the Gulf Coast area, the President of the United States addressed the nation regarding the state of the BP oil spill. In his speech from the Oval Office, President Obama spoke regarding our nation's dependence upon oil and how we need to break that dependence. During his speech, the President made a statement that was blatantly false. The President noted, "We consume more than 20% of the world's oil, but have less than 2% of the world's oil reserve. And that's part of the reason oil companies are drilling a mile beneath the surface of the ocean -- because we're running out of places to drill on land and in shallow water." We ...
Obama Is Kicking Louisiana's Ass Post Date: 2010-06-16 16:26:09 by no gnu taxes

Last week, President Obama announced on national television that he was looking for an ass to kick. Well, it seems he found one, the State of Louisiana. During his address to the nation last night, the President made clear that he will not offer real help to the struggling people of Louisiana and the Gulf Coast. In his speech, he presented no specific action plans and instead relied on lame platitudes. In contrast, he made clear his support for a destructive national energy tax and a horrible cap and trade energy bill, which will devastate Louisianas economy. Obama is using the tragedy of the oil spill to further his political agenda, all at the expense of Louisiana jobs. To make ...

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The chairman of BP's board said Wednesday that the oil company will suspend its quarterly dividend as part of its commitments to compensate victims of the Gulf oil spill. BP Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg made the announcement Wednesday after emerging from the White House where he and other BP executives met for four hours with President Barack Obama. BP shares jumped as Svanberg spoke and were up 3.6 to $32.53 in afternoon trading in New York. BP said in a statement that it has canceled a dividend payment - totaling about $2.6 billion - scheduled for June 21 and that it won't declare a dividend for the second and third quarters. Svanberg also confirmed that ...
Louisiana Gives Bush Much Higher Marks on Katrina Than They Give Obama on the Oil Spill Post Date: 2010-06-16 14:49:38 by no gnu taxes

Our new Louisiana poll has a lot of data points to show how unhappy voters in the state are with Barack Obama's handling of the oil spill but one perhaps sums it up better than anything else- a majority of voters there think George W. Bush did a better job with Katrina than Obama's done dealing with the spill. 50% of voters in the state, even including 31% of Democrats, give Bush higher marks on that question compared to 35% who pick Obama. Overall only 32% of Louisianans approve of how Obama has handled the spill to 62% who disapprove. 34% of those polled say they approved of how Bush dealt with Katrina to 58% who disapproved.

Barack Obama had a close encounter of the eligibility kind today as his motorcade drove past an electronic billboard on Highway 98 here asking the question, "Where's the birth certificate?" The trip was part of Obama's tour of areas hit by the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, and the billboard was courtesy of WND's 13-month continuing campaign to raise the issue of the president's constitutional eligibility for office. "We were able to get this billboard up in a hurry because it is electronic," explained Joseph Farah, chief executive officer of WND and the mastermind of the advertising campaign that has visited more than 50 cities in the past year. ...
US Mulls Less Jail-Like Immigrant Facilities Post Date: 2010-06-16 13:31:40 by Brian S

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- In an agreement U.S. immigration officials hope will begin to reshape the entire 30,000-bed detention system, some asylum-seekers and immigrants awaiting deportation proceedings could soon be held in facilities where they can wear their own clothes, participate in movie and bingo nights, eat continental breakfasts, and celebrate holidays with visiting family members. It could end confinement in prison-like facilities - complete with razor wire, jail-style uniforms, armed guards and partitions that prevent physical contact with loved ones - for those who have never been convicted of a crime and are not considered a threat. Ron Paul: Get Off Obama's Back, This BP Spill Is Not All His Fault Post Date: 2010-06-16 12:47:51 by Brian S

Congressman Ron Paul spoke to CNBC today about how he feels President Obama is taking too much of the blame for the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill. 0:30 Its unfair to blame Obama for an oil company accident, similar to blaming Bush for everything in terms of Katrina; this creates a culture where government is responsible for everything.2:05 If you had proper property rights instead of government control, this situation would have been improved. 2:50 There shouldn't be any limits on the legal liabilities for BP.4:10 Don't end deepwater drilling, but make it more costly, make the conditions much different. BP Agrees to Set Aside About $20 Billion for Spill Claims Post Date: 2010-06-16 12:23:12 by Brian S

WASHINGTON The White House and BP tentatively agreed that the oil giant will create a $20 billion fund to pay claims for the worst oil spill in American history, to be independently run by the mediator who oversaw the 9/11 victims compensation fund, Kenneth Feinberg, according to two people familiar with the deliberations. The agreement was not final and was still being negotiated when President Obama and his top advisers met this morning with BPs top executives and lawyers. Its preliminary terms would give BP several years to deposit the full amount into the fund so it could better manage cash flow, maintain its financial viability and not scare off investors. The talks ...
AP-GfK Poll Bolsters Democrats' Hopes For Retaining Control Of Congress Post Date: 2010-06-16 12:18:07 by Brian S

There's encouraging news for Democrats battling to retain control of Congress in this fall's elections, with the party holding a slender edge in public trust for shepherding the economy and small gains in those saying their finances are healthy, according to a new poll. The reeling economy remains people's top concern, according to an Associated Press-GfK Poll conducted earlier this month, making public attitudes about it crucial for both parties' hopes in November. The good news for Democrats: By a margin of 47 percent to 42 percent, people trust them more than Republicans to guide the economy, and slightly more _ 64 percent _ say their household budgets are in good ...
Senator Hatch Aims To Force Unemployed To Take Drug Tests Post Date: 2010-06-16 11:54:31 by Brian S

Though the Clinton Administration passed a law years ago allowing states to test welfare recipients for drug abuse, one Republican senator wants to go farther: require drug tests of anyone who applies for government assistance.Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) offered an amendment Tuesday that would require drug tests for those who seek welfare and unemployment benefits. States have the authority to enact drug testing requirements for their welfare programs under the 1996 Welfare Reform Act, signed into law by President Bill Clinton, but they are not mandated to conduct tests under current law."This amendment is a way to help people get off of drugs to become productive and healthy members of ...
Afghan War Becoming a Bloody Farce (Another Obama FUBAR) Post Date: 2010-06-16 11:10:16 by no gnu taxes

Since last summer, President Obama has publicly doubted whether Afghan President Hamid Karzai's corruption and incompetence make him a fit partner for our policy goals in Afghanistan. Now, according to Saturday's New York Times: "Mr. Karzai (has) lost faith in the Americans and NATO to prevail in Afghanistan." Regretfully, both presidents are correct. Neither of them has a national partner in whom he can place any reasonable confidence. The two governments cannot agree on a common fighting strategy. Nor can those facts be materially changed in time to make a difference, given President Obama's firm commitment to start withdrawing troops no later than the middle of ...

Two vacations, a half dozen parties, and several rounds of golf later, Barack Obama finally addresses the nation on the BP oil spill. Lie #1: Were drilling in deepwater because were running out of places to drill. Not True. For decades, Democrats have blocked efforts to responsibly develop this nations energy resources, transforming vast areas of opportunity into The No Zone. Over the past 30 years: Democrats have blocked the development of new sources of petroleum. Democrats have blocked drilling in ANWR. Democrats have blocked drilling off the coast of Florida. Democrats have blocked drilling off of the east coast. Democrats have blocked drilling ...

host a radio show on WEUS 810 AM in Orlando, Fla., on Sundays 1-4 p.m. EST. On last week's show, I had firebrand Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) as a guest. "Is President Obama better or worse than Jimmy Carter?" I asked her. "Worse. Easily worse," she replied. She went on to say that without question, Obama was the worst president in U.S. history. Is it true? There are only two other true contenders for the title of "worst president in U.S. history": Jimmy Carter and James Buchanan. Warren G. Harding's tenure was corrupt but not disastrous, and Andrew Johnson's presidency failed because of his Southern roots and wrongful adherence to ...

I'm getting sick and tired of the increasingly amount of articles written by liberal bloggists and journalists who argue that Barack Obama can't do anything at all to help the situation with the Gulf Oil Crisis. There is article after article, blog post after blog post, all arguing the same thing- this was a natural disaster, the responsibility for the containment and cleanup is entirely on BP, Obama had nothing to do with it, Obama has nothing to do with it, and Obama and the Democrats in Congress who are running our nation right now are not to be blamed for it. They are wrong though- Democrat President Barack Obama and the Democratic Congress running our nation can and should be ...

MONROE, Ohio A six-story statue of Jesus Christ was struck by lightning and burned to the ground, leaving only a blackened steel skeleton and pieces of foam that were scooped up by curious onlookers Tuesday. The "King of Kings" statue, one of southwest Ohio's most familiar landmarks, had stood since 2004 at the evangelical Solid Rock Church along Interstate 75 in Monroe, just north of Cincinnati. The lightning strike set the statue ablaze around 11:15 p.m. Monday, Monroe police dispatchers said. The sculpture, about 62 feet tall and 40 feet wide at the base, showed Jesus from the torso up and was nicknamed Touchdown Jesus because of the way the arms were raised, ...

I don't want to look at or listen to that dumbass.

GRAND ISLE, La. -- The Coast Guard says it found a Florida-based shrimper working in an area closed because of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, confiscated 19,000 pounds of white shrimp and dumped it all back in the water. Petty Officer Casey Ranel says 500 pounds of the shrimp were live, 500 pounds had just recently been de-headed, and 18,000 were frozen when returned to the water 13 miles south of Belle Pass. A Tuesday news release says a Coast Guard crew from Grand Isle inspected the trawler Little Andrew on Sunday after getting a report that it was working in a restricted area. Ranel says the boat's master, whom she identified as Dung Nguyen, was given a written warning. She says ...
