Most New Jersey voters still approve of the job that Governor Chris Christie is doing, and he earns solid support for his handling of the states contentious budget situation. A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely New Jersey Voters shows that 51% approve of how the new Republican governor is doing his job, while 45% disapprove. This includes 33% who Strongly Approve and 31% who Strongly Disapprove. These findings mark little, if any, change from mid-April. Forty-six percent (46%) of Garden State voters give Christie good or excellent marks for his handling of the budget crisis. Thirty-six percent (36%) rate his performance in this area as poor. Christie has been ...

Democrats Surrender to Christie in N.J. Budget Battle by Mark Impomeni 06/17/2010 What looked to be an impending showdown between the Democratic-controlled New Jersey legislature and Republican Gov. Chris Christie over the state budget for fiscal 2011 may be over before it ever began. Democrats in the state assembly publicly conceded this week that Christies $29 billion budget would pass largely intact with Democratic support. The move comes on the heels of last weeks collision between Christie and State Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-Camden). Sweeney delivered two bills reinstating New Jerseys expired millionaires tax to the governors office ...

AP Bias: Name That Party Blasts Repubs, Leaves Dems Unnamed in Stories By Warner Todd Huston Jun 17th 2010 at 8:18 am One of the many ways in which the Associated Press lends its support to Democrats and leftists in its political reporting is often evident in its stories about political scandals. The most common assist the AP gives to Democrats is to somehow forget to mention that a politician in the news because of criminal activity or other scandals is a Democrat. Yet when any pol in the news for scandal is a Republican, his party affiliation often leads the story, if it isnt in the headline, even. Oh, its all accidental Im sure, but it happens so often as ...

Liberals Hate Palin Because She’s Beautiful [Full Thread] Post Date: 2010-06-17 12:31:50 by no gnu taxes

Liberals have never liked former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. They dont like that she didnt go to an Ivy League school, that she doesnt follow the usual protocol of not speaking until a liberal says its okay to do so, and that she chose to carry her Down Syndrome baby to term instead of aborting it. (That last one really drives them crazy.) They dislike her political support for smaller government, tax cuts, and a strong military. They are outraged by her ongoing push for drilling in ANWR, her participation in hunting sports, and the fact that shes a card-carrying, Life Member of the NRA. But all these reasons are trumped by the fact that they despise her beauty. ...

Tea party groups are reacting strongly and negatively to MSNBC's documentary "The Rise of the New Right," hosted by Chris Matthews. Yesterday, FreedomWorks chairman Dick Armey expressed personal disgust with Matthews for lending his name to the project, which has enraged tea partyers by repeating charges that they "taunted" black members of Congress during the March 2010 health care vote, and that the militia movement is part of the broader tea party wave. "He's a better person than that," Armey said. "What's he doing? He's given himself over to something. I like him, personally, but it was sort of like -- I had the feeling like my ...

Battles brews over who will get Helen Thomas's White House seat; Bloomberg and Fox trade letters Helen Thomas in 2006. (Brendan Smialowski/Getty Images) Who'll take Helen Thomas's front-row seat in the White House briefing room? The lobbying is in full swing, with Fox News and Bloomberg News trading passive-aggressive gibes. In a letter last week to the White House Correspondents' Association board, Fox's Bill Sammon wrote that his network was promised in 2007 it would get the spot when Thomas retired, having come in second to CNN in the seat-jockeying that occurred when the front row was widened. He called Bloomberg "a financial niche news outlet, not a general ...

Thursday, June 17, 2010 BP Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg attempted an earnest apology Wednesday for the worst environmental accident ever to befall America, but it will be remembered for only two words: "Small people." Svanberg came with other BP executives to the White House, where he said President Obama made clear that he is "frustrated because he cares about the small people." "And we care about the small people," added Svanberg, who is Swedish. "I hear comments sometimes that large oil companies are greedy companies or don't care. But that is not the case indeed. We care about the small people." Just like that, a new slogan was born. It ...

(found halfway down page at link) Its Too Early for Christie, but Americans Are Yearning for His Style By Jim Geraghty Posted on June 16, 2010 10:39 AM It seems like every week or so, you see blogs and Twitter comments in the vein of, Hey, did you see this great speech by Chris Christie? And theyre not actually great speeches, at least not the way weve been conditioned to expect in the Age of Obama not much flowery language, not much rhetoric that soars but just him and a group of New Jerseyans, and him laying out the states enormous problems in blunt honesty, and a raw, unvarnished pep talk that the path ahead is going to be hard, but ...

According to Paul J.J. Payack, president of Global Language Monitor, Americans are just not intelligent enough to understand what Obama was trying to say in his speech Tuesday evening. He says that Obama speech was written to a 9.8 grade level of understanding. I guess us hicks in the hinterland just don't git wat Obama were trying to tell us unejacated folk out here. Despite using slightly less than four sentences per paragraph, Payack says that because Obama used 19.8 words per sentence, that our ability to go comprehend what he was saying went right over our heads. Payack especially had a problem with the following sentence because he states that the phraseology used made him come ...

The number of people filing new claims for jobless benefits jumped last week after three straight declines, another sign that hiring remains weak, while consumer prices fell. Unemployment line The Labor Department says initial claims for jobless benefits rose by 12,000 to a seasonally adjusted 472,000, the highest level in a month. Economists had expected claims would fall to a seasonally adjusted 450,000, according to Thomson Reuters. First-time claims have hovered near 450,000 since the beginning of the year after falling steadily in the second half of 2009. That has raised concerns that hiring is lackluster and could slow the recovery. The number of people continuing to claim ...

When his approval rating was north of 70 percent and we conservatives were told that resistance is futile in the face of the most powerful political figure since, well, ever? Then came that unavoidable force known as reality. The stimulus . . . didnt. Unemployment is stubbornly high. Iran keeps ignoring us. A majority of Americans still hate Obamacare, and Obamas endorsed candidates have performed about as well as a BP well cap. Lieberman Defends Plan Giving President Emergency Internet Authority (Know Your Enemies) Post Date: 2010-06-17 01:25:16 by Brian S

Sen. Joseph Lieberman on Tuesday defended his proposal to grant the president far-reaching emergency powers to seize control of or shut down portions of the Internet. It's vital that the president can "say to an electric company or to say to Verizon, in the national interest, 'There's an attack about to come, and I hereby order you to put a patch on this, or put your network down on this part, or stop accepting any incoming from country A,'" said Lieberman, an independent from Connecticut who caucuses with Democrats. Lieberman's bill, introduced last week, could force companies such as broadband providers, search engines, or software firms that the ...

Oil shale retort A number of observers have been pointing to oil shale as the solution to all our energy problems. If oil shale does turn out to be the resource of the future, then our problems are only beginning. Instapundit sees a "plan to put Middle East oil producers out of business" in this story from the Rocky Mountain News: [W]ith crude oil above $66 a barrel at the close of trading [on Sept. 20], oil shale is a promising alternative to crude. The Green River shale deposits in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming are estimated to contain 1.5 trillion to 1.8 trillion barrels of oil, and while not all of it can be recovered, half that amount is nearly triple the proven oil reserves ...
