Obama is on the campaign trail this week. After a recent swing in California for Barbara Boxer, who later began to slide downward in the polls, he went off to help Robin Carnahan in Missouri who had to cut the top price ticket at the fundraiser Obama headlined from $250 to $99. Carnahan is behind in every recent poll against Roy Blunt. Next, Obama was off to help Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in Las Vegas, a city which hasn't been as welcoming as it might considering how he repeatedly told people not to go there and spend money. The editorial in the Las Vegas Review Journal pointed out that the current unemployment rate in the city is 14% and sent this message to Obama:"Your ...
President Tarball finds resistance in Congress -- from Democrats Post Date: 2010-07-09 13:20:01 by no gnu taxes

Just as he's ramping up his effort to keep Congress in Democratic hands, Lisa Mascaro reports that President Obama is finding new resistance to his policies from his own caucus on Capitol Hill. From her story today: For the last year and a half, on issues including healthcare, financial regulation and climate change, Democrats in Congress have bent for President Obama. Liberals swallowed hard to accept compromises that fell short of their long-sought goals, and moderates cast tough votes that now threaten their reelection prospects as voters revolt against government overreach. Then, last week, the president asked them to bend yet again -- this time to approve more money for his ...

Jimmy Buffet, Gulf Coast native and committed Obama supporter, blames Bush for oil spill (He must want to give Obama a BJ. Post Date: 2010-07-09 11:58:56 by no gnu taxes

Jimmy Buffet is planning a benefit concert on the Alabama Gulf Coast to help raise the spirits of those who are living with the oil that is washing up on shore and destroying their economies and livelihoods. But evidently he's got the welfare of another on this mind. In an interview with the Associated Press, Mr. Buffet blames George W. Bush for the oil spill and not Barack Obama, who is actually the president:
Buffett, a supporter of President Barack Obama, said the roots of the spill lie with the administration of former President George Bush, which was often criticized for being too cozy with the petroleum industry.
"To me it was more about eight years of bad policy before ...

President Barack Obamas moratorium to kill jobs in the gulf by prohibiting drilling, was lifted not too long ago by a federal judge. The U.S. Court of appeals for the 5th circuit agreed with that judge 2-1 to lift Obamas ban. However, Obama is still succeeding in killing jobs and the economy. From Reuters: Analysts said the ongoing battle over the ban had produced gridlock for the oil drilling companies. Effectively the governments getting what they want by default. Its too risky for companies to start up the deepwater drilling process when you know the rug could be pulled out from underneath you, said Dan Pickering, head of research at Tudor, ...

Some residents are outraged that BP has been dumping oily waste in landfills in their areas. After BP crews scoop up the oil off Gulf beaches, the waste is transported to Mississippi's Pecan Grove landfill. Even workers' protective suits, gloves, shovels, rakes and anything else that touches oil is buried there. The Board of Supervisors in Harrison, Mississippi passed a resolution saying they don't want any BP waste in their community but there is little they can do. BP has cut deals with Waste Management, the owners of the landfill. They answer to the state instead of local county ...

Michael Steele is supposed to reflect a consensus of Republican platform and policies, he said. The episode is set to air Sunday morning. If he does that, he certainly could remain. If hes not willing to do that, if he wants to be a political leader on his own, theres plenty of seats open in ...

Judge rules federal same-sex marriage ban unconstitutional Post Date: 2010-07-09 09:22:34 by go65

(CNN) -- A federal judge in Boston, Massachusetts, has ruled that the federal ban on gay marriage is unconstitutional, because it interferes with an individual state's right to define marriage. The ruling gives same-sex married couples in Massachusetts the same right to federal benefits that heterosexual couples enjoy. U.S. District Judge Joseph Tauro ruled that "as irrational prejudice plainly never constitutes a legitimate government interest," the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) violates the protection under the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution. Tauro ruled simultaneously in favor on two separate lawsuits that were filed by the Gay & Lesbian Advocates & ...

Rescue crews stopped searching Thursday evening for two passengers who went missing after a tour boat collided with a barge on the Delaware River, the Coast Guard said. After a 20-hour search covering 14 square miles, Coast Guard Capt. Todd Gatlin said the missing individuals could not have survived the crash. Gatlin said the search was now a "recovery operation." Murky water and fast currents kept divers away from the "Duck" boat earlier Thursday, which was resting on the bottom of the Delaware River. Rescuers saved 35 people who were on the "Duck" boat at the time of the crash. The tour boat had a clean record, said the president of Ride the Ducks, who ...

A white former transit police officer was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter on Thursday in the videotaped shooting death of an unarmed black man that triggered riots in Oakland, California last year. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger joined civic leaders in Oakland and elsewhere in appealing for public restraint as police braced for the possibility of renewed violence sparked by the Los Angeles jury's verdict. The panel of four men and eight women deliberated for about six hours over two days before reaching their decision, which indicated they essentially believed defense arguments that the shooting was a tragic accident rather than the intentional act of a rogue cop. If you had qualms about the federal government's decision to react to the financial crisis by taking billions of your tax dollars and handing them over to the highly compensated people who helped create the financial crisis, perhaps you can find solace in the news that we've actually made money on the deal. A new study reported on by Reuters today says the largest component of the TARP fund has netted the U.S. more than $10 billion in profit so far. The $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program was originally intended to purchase, as the name implied, troubled assets. But it rapidly transformed itself into an all-purpose emergency fund. The largest component, the $205 billion ...

DuPont Co. and McDonalds Corp. climbed more than 2.4 percent to lead the Dow Jones Industrial Average higher. J.C. Penney Co. and Abercrombie & Fitch Co. surged at least 6.7 percent after reporting June sales that beat estimates. Barack Obama is the dumbest president...EVER. That is a reasonable conclusion once you've assessed the first nineteen months of his presidency and compared it to the definition of intelligence put together by researchers in the field. Although the mainstream media have spent the last two years proclaiming Obama "super-smart" or, as Newsweek put it, "sort of God" in stature and brilliance, the 44th president of the United States is poised to surpass our 15th president, James Buchanan. Jr., as the White House occupant who has made the dumbest moves while in office. With two years left, he is on the fast track to last. That takes some doing, for the leadership of the ...

A grim twist in the market's road to health has heightened investors' sense of doom and gloom. We've seen this before; take a look at what happened then. [Related content: stocks, stock market, economy, recession, Anthony Mirhaydari] By Anthony Mirhaydari MSN Money It's been a pretty miserable period to be in the stock market. The past two months represent the worst May-June performance for the S&P 500 Index ($INX) in 48 years. Since the Dubai debt crisis emerged in November, investors have slowly turned their attention from the sugar rush that was the economy's initial stimulus-fueled return to growth in July 2009 to what lies ahead. And they don't like what ...
Ron Paul, Barney Frank call for reigning in military spending ($1 trillion over 10 years) Post Date: 2010-07-08 15:13:56 by go65

Representatives Ron Paul and Barney Frank argued on CNNs Situation Room Wednesday that our military is over-stressed, over-deployed and believe that a significant withdrawal of troops stationed around the world could save the American people over a trillion dollars in 10 years. It seems to me that the argument for us staying in Iraq [is to] solely mediate electoral disputes among the various political parties and religious groups, Frank said. It has no value. We continue to subsidize the budgets of Western Europe, Frank continued. We are committed to defending Americas legitimate strategic interests, he argued, but ...

Sarah Palin is waging a battle inside the "tea party" movement to exempt defense spending from the group's small-government, anti-deficit fervor. There's growing concern among Republicans -- and especially among the pro-defense neoconservative wing of the party -- that national security spending, which is under a level of scrutiny and pressure not seen since the end of the Cold War, could fall victim to the tea party's anti-establishment, anti- spending agenda. The former Alaska governor, as the unofficial leader of the movement and its most prominent celebrity, is moving to carve out such funding from any drives to cut overall government expenditures. "In the ...

Sharron Angle, the Republican nominee for Senate in Nevada against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, explained her opposition to abortion even in cases of rape and incest: "Two wrongs don't make a right," and young girls who sought alternatives to abortion "made what was really a lemon situation into lemonade." As Sam Stein reports, in a radio interview in late June, with conservative talker Alan Stock, Angle explained: Stock: What do you say then to a young girl, I am going to place it as he said it, when a young girl is raped by her father, let's say, and she is pregnant. How do you explain this to her in terms of wanting her to go through the process of ...
