Changing Stance, Administration Now Defends Insurance Mandate as a Tax By ROBERT PEAR Published: July 16, 2010
WASHINGTON — When Congress required most Americans to obtain health insurance or pay a penalty, Democrats denied that they were creating a new tax. But in court, the Obama administration and its allies now defend the requirement as an exercise of the government’s “power to lay and collect taxes.”
And that power, they say, is even more sweeping than the federal power to ...
Evidence for a young world Post Date: 2010-07-18 15:15:23 by no gnu taxes

Here are nearly a dozen natural phenomena which conflict with the evolutionary idea that the universe is billions of years old. The numbers I list below in bold print (often millions of years) are maximum possible ages set by each process, not the actual ages. The numbers in italics are the ages required by evolutionary theory for each item. The point is that the maximum possible ages are always much less that the required evolutionary ages, while the biblical age (6,000-10,000 years) always fits comfortably within the maximum possible ages. Thus the following items are evidence against the evolutionary time-scale and for the biblical time-scale. Much more young-world evidence exists, but ...
Evidences of a Young Earth Post Date: 2010-07-18 12:15:55 by no gnu taxes

Geology: Radiocarbon in Diamonds Far from proving evolution, carbon-14 dating actually provides some of the strongest evidence for creation and a young earth. Radiocarbon (carbon-14) cannot remain naturally in substances for millions of years because it decays relatively rapidly. For this reason, it can only be used to obtain ages in the range of tens of thousands of years. Scientists from the RATE (Radioisotopes and the Age of the Earth) project examined diamonds that evolutionists consider to be 12 billion years old and related to the earths early history. Diamonds are the hardest known substance and extremely resistant to contamination through chemical exchange. ...
Eighteen Million Unemployed: Obama Blames Republicans. Post Date: 2010-07-18 06:32:49 by Skip MacLure

Well, we saw this one coming. I, and other writers, have been warning the Republicrats in the Senate that their foot dragging on authorizing the sorely needed unemployment extension funds was going to come back around to bite them and, gee, what a surprise! Barack Obama made it the thrust of his entire radio broadcast to the nation today. I warned that Republican stonewalling on this would position the DeMarxists to be able to control the message, portraying Republicans once again as heartless and uncaring about the plight of millions of their fellow Americans. Indeed, that is exactly what has occurred. Hey! Guys! Were on your side, but youre not making it any easier for us ...
New Poll Shows McInnis Losing Support (CO-Gov) Post Date: 2010-07-18 00:18:37 by go65

DENVER -- There's growing fallout from the Scott McInnis plagiarism scandal. A day after three staffers resigned, a new poll shows McInnis is losing voter support, as well. In the latest Rasmussen survey, Mayor John Hickenlooper came out ahead of Scott McInnis among likely voters. It's the first time since February that has happened. Analysts say McInnis has dug himself and his party into a hole. "Scott McInnis has faced some bumps in the road earlier on with some other issues. But this isn't really a bump. This is a sinkhole. He has to try to avoid being swallowed by it," said Dr. Norman Provizer, a political science professor at Metro State University. In the ...

Onalaska police were aware a Catholic priest now charged with having child pornography repeatedly followed several young boys into a Wisconsin Dells water park bathroom almost a year ago, according to police reports and court records. A family and two Noahs Ark Water Park employees saw the Rev. Patrick Umberger, 59, trail the boys into the bathroom by a childrens pool area July 22, 2009, according to a Lake Delton Police Department report. Umberger, priest at St. Patricks Catholic Parish in Onalaska since 2005, was found standing next to a 10-year-old using a urinal, the report stated. He told an officer he was near the restrooms because he had prostate problems and had ...

First. In yesterdays article I cited West Virginia as being a part of the Mason-Dixon line. West Virginia did not exist until after the Civil War, so the article should have stated Virginia, as was pointed out to me by a reader. One hundred and nine days until the reckoning. Conservative Patriot numbers (thats Tea Party to you liberally challenged types out there), are running on the north side of twenty million, and thats not counting the millions of independents and Democrats whose gag reflex just wont handle the MaoBama DeMarxist goose-step towards national third-world socialist redistribution, abject poverty and eternal mediocrity. Fed's volte face sends the dollar tumbling (Fed admits Economy won't recover for 5 or 6 years!!!!0 Post Date: 2010-07-17 00:08:55 by Nebuchadnezzar

The euro rocketed to a two-month high of $1.29 and sterling jumped two cents to almost $1.54 after the Fed confessed that the US economy may not recover for five or six years. Far from winding down emergency stimulus, the bank may need a fresh blast of bond purchases or quantitative easing. Usually the dollar serves as a safe haven whenever the world takes fright, and there was plenty of sobering news from China and other quarters on Thursday. Not this time. The US itself has become the problem. "The worm is turning," said David Bloom, currency chief at HSBC. "We're in a world of rotating sovereign crises. The market seems to become obsessed with one idea at a time, ...
'Super Skimmer' A Giant Bust In Gulf Cleanup Post Date: 2010-07-16 23:51:39 by Brian S

HOUSTON A Taiwanese-owned "super skimmer" sent to help clean up the Gulf of Mexico oil spill has been a bust, the U.S. Coast Guard said after tests on the ship. "While its stature is impressive, 'A Whale' is not ideally suited to the needs of this response," Coast Guard Rear Adm. Paul Zunkunft, a federal on-scene coordinator, said in a statement late on Friday. The vessel will not be deployed as a part of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill response. The tanker collected virtually no oil in two weeks of tests, Zunkunft said at a news briefing earlier on Friday. "All we found in the tanks was water, so it was very ineffective," he said at the ...

For years, weve maintained a list of arguments creationists should avoid. There are enough good arguments for biblical accuracy and a young earth that dubious claims can safely be discarded. Now we want to address a similar topic: arguments evolutionists should avoid. These worn-out tropes have not only passed their expiration date, but they never should have been made to begin with. Argument1 Evolution is a fact When our core beliefs are attacked, its often easy for humans to retreat to statements such as this: My belief is a fact, and yours is wrong. Thats exactly why we cannot trust mere human understanding to explain the unobservable pastemotion and ...
Feds: Test Still On, But Results From Cap On Gulf Well Not As Good As Hoped Post Date: 2010-07-16 17:01:49 by Brian S

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The federal pointman for the BP oil spill says results are short of ideal in the new cap but the oil will stay shut in for another 6 hours at least. Retired Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen said on a Friday afternoon conference pressure readings from the cap have not reached the level that would show there are no other leaks in the well. He said the test will go ahead for another 6-hour period before being reassessed to see if BP needs to reopen the cap and let oil spill out again.

GE: Turn The Light Off Eh, what's to like here? General Electric Co.'s second-quarter earnings rose 16%, buoyed by a stronger performance at its GE Capital financial unit and what the company described as an economic environment that "continues to improve." Yeah, right. "Continues to improve" eh? Then what's this? Still, revenue slipped 4.3% to $37.44 billion and came in short of analysts' consensus $38.37 billion view. GE blamed the trend on downsizing at GE Capital as well as lower equipment sales and dispositions of some industrial assets. But but but but but..... you said the economy was "continuing to improve"! How can it be improving ...

Billy Roper is a write-in candidate for governor of Arkansas and an unapologetic white nationalist. "I don't want non-whites in my country in any form or fashion or any status," he says. Roper also is a tea party member who says he has been gathering support for his cause by attending tea party rallies. "We go to these tea parties all over the country," Roper said. "We're looking for the younger, potentially more radical people." Accusations about racism within the tea party have rumbled for a year, but they suddenly exploded this week with a resolution at the NAACP convention in Kansas City saying the party is attracting people and groups hostile ...

Last months combined global land and ocean surface temperature made it the warmest June on record and the warmest on record averaged for any April-June and January-June periods, according to NOAA. Worldwide average land surface temperature was the warmest on record for June and the April-June period, and the second warmest on record for the year-to-date (January-June) period, behind 2007. The monthly analysis from NOAAs National Climatic Data Center, which is based on records going back to 1880, is part of the suite of climate services NOAA provides government, business and community leaders so they can make informed decisions. The combined global land and ocean average ...

Jerry Stacy, spokesperson for U.S. Senatorial candidate Sharron Angle, said today that the latest polling numbers are simply a reflection of U.S. Senator Harry Reids pillbox-style of assault campaigning which has done little to improve Reids favorable ratings among Nevada citizens. For numerous years Harry Reid has built this war chest and has spent the last several weeks running false TV ads distorting Sharron's record while hiding from his own, and these numbers will turn quickly again now that Sharron has had some time to raise money and is able to begin running campaign ads that will refute Reids false attacks and introduce the real Sharron Angle to the ...
10 reasons why George W. Bush was a smarter world leader than Barack Obama Post Date: 2010-07-16 14:44:29 by no gnu taxes

When it took office a year ago, the Obama administration boasted of a new strategy of smart power, designed to restore Americas standing in the world. In essence this new approach to foreign policy was designed to distance the new US government in every way possible from the Bush administration, supposedly hated in every corner of the earth, from Berlin to Buenos Aires. Hence, the hallmarks of Obamas foreign policy have been the naive engagement of an array of odious dictatorial regimes, grovelling apologies before foreign audiences, lamb-like timidity in the face of intimidation, the ending of the War on Terror, and the trashing of traditional ...
Tea Party Billboard Sign Comparing Obama To Hitler Creates Criticism From Its Own Members Post Date: 2010-07-16 14:09:16 by Brian S

Thursday, a billboard in Iowa that was paid for by the Tea Party has created nationwide controversy, and drew criticism from Tea Party members. The sign includes a photo of President Obama next to Adolf Hitler and Vladimir Lenin, and under each photo is the word Change" and then the phrase "Radical leaders prey on the fearful & naive." The North Iowa Tea Party paid for the sign, and they have stated that they do not believe the sign is disrespectful, but other Iowa tea party members disagree and are speaking out about their opinions. I think it really does an injustice to the people who suffered and died under Stalin and Adolf Hitler, said Ryan Rhodes, ...

(07-16) 10:07 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) -- Far-reaching legislation aimed at reining in Wall Street marks the latest and likely the last major achievement by President Barack Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress, an 18-month partnership that strove simultaneously to fix a battered economy and enact sweeping changes to health care, education and more. Whatever the longer term impact the most far-reaching changes in the health care legislation won't start until 2014 the immediate aftermath is unemployment that scrapes double digits and deficits far deeper than Obama and his allies inherited in January 2009. The Republicans who worked ceaselessly to thwart the ...
Reid leads, or Mason Dixon understating Angle again? Post Date: 2010-07-16 13:48:17 by no gnu taxes

In the runup to the Nevada GOP primary, Mason-Dixon and the Las Vegas Review-Journal understated Sharron Angles support by 8 points, and cut her 14 point win almost in half to 8. Now the pair releases their first post-primary poll. Are they gauging Angles support accurately this time? I have to question whether they are. This poll only shows Angle getting 70% of Republicans versus Harry Reids 80% of Democrats. That plus Reids slim 37-35 (MoE 4) lead among Independents, gives Reid an overall 44-37 advantage in the poll. The 44 for Reid is slightly higher than his trend in recent months, but is not unreasonable. The 37 for Angle, though, is abnormal. If we look back ...
Utah Identifies 2 Allegedly Behind Immigrant List Post Date: 2010-07-16 13:45:29 by Brian S

(07-16) 10:19 PDT Salt Lake City (AP) -- Utah officials have identified at least two state workers who apparently breached a state database to create a list of 1,300 purported illegal immigrants. Gov. Gary Herbert's office said Friday that the employees work for the Department of Workforce Services, which administers food stamp programs and other public benefits. News media, law enforcement and other government officials started receiving the list of names and personal information this week, creating widespread fear in the Hispanic community. The anonymous mailing demands that those on the list be deported, although some named have said they are in the country legally. The list ...
BP Faces Scrutiny In Lockerbie Case Post Date: 2010-07-16 13:40:35 by go65

NDON The oil giant BP faced a new furor on Thursday as it confirmed that it had lobbied the British government to conclude a prisoner-transfer agreement that the Libyan government wanted to secure the release of the only person ever convicted for the 1988 Lockerbie airliner bombing over Scotland, which killed 270 people, 189 of them Americans. The acknowledgment came after American legislators, grappling with the controversy over the companys disastrous Gulf of Mexico oil spill, called for an investigation into BPs actions in the case of the freed man, Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi. After an initial demand for an investigation on Wednesday by four senators from New York ...

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) holds a seven-point lead over Republican challenger Sharron Angle in a poll released Friday. The Las Vegas Review-Journal/Mason-Dixon poll shows that, if the election were held today, Reid would defeat Angle 44-37 percent. Ten percent of respondents were undecided and five percent did not choose a candidate. Reid's lead comes after a week in which he slammed the Tea Party-backed Angle in a new television ad. The ad alleges that Angle would have opted to kill jobs in Las Vegas by killing a large construction project, and says she is too extreme.
Boxer Leads Fiorina By $10M In Money Race Post Date: 2010-07-16 13:39:27 by Brian S

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) has almost $10 million more cash on hand than her Republican challenger, Carly Fiorina. Boxer has $11.3 million in the bank after raising slightly less than $2.6 million since May 20. She raised a total of $4.6 million during the second quarter, but more than $1 million of that came in the form of transfers from other campaign committees. Boxer also benefited from two second quarter fundraisers that featured President Obama. Fiorina, meanwhile, reported raising nearly $1.4 million from May 20 to June 30. But she has only $953,000 left in the bank, despite having lent her primary campaign $5.5 million. During a campaign stop Thursday, Fiorina called her ...
Financial Regulatory Reform… stupidity of EPIC proportions Post Date: 2010-07-16 13:18:24 by no gnu taxes

I am completely mesmerized by the revisionist history before my eyes today. Earlier I was planning to write an open letter to the president about how he might deal with the national debt
an issue he took up all the way back last week at a Wisconsin town hall meeting. But today I had to put that thought on hold when the Senate passed the financial reform bill. I reloaded my link to review the page only to find
The NY Times had completely rewritten the article. (Without a cache link! Weasels.) Thank God for PDFs
Let me go back to the original article because it contains stupidity of EPIC proportions. The story leads talking about the Senate voting pretty much along ...
