Tennessee Republican Floats Secession Threat
Post Date: 2010-07-24 13:44:40 by Brian S

(CNN) – Texas Gov. Rick Perry's suggestion in April 2009 that his state might consider secession drew a round of mockery nationwide, but his blustery populist rhetoric earned him serious traction among GOP primary voters in his re-election fight against Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison. Perry, riding a tide of anti-Washington sentiment, went on to trounce Hutchison and another candidate in the Republican primary earlier this year. Now another gubernatorial hopeful is test-driving a similar message. Rep. Zach Wamp, one of three candidates seeking the GOP gubernatorial nomination in Tennessee, told Hotline OnCall that Perry had the right idea. Wamp argued that mandates forced on the ...

Obama Slams GOP Plan To ‘Add One Trillion Dollars To Our Deficit’

President Barack Obama Saturday praised a Wall Street reform law enacted this week and rejected a Republican plan to jump-start the economy, saying it will take the country backward."Wall Street reform is a key pillar of an overall economic plan we have put in place to dig ourselves out of this recession and build an economy for the long run -- an economy that makes America more competitive and our middle-class more secure," Obama said in his weekly radio address. On Wednesday, the president signed into law the most sweeping reform of the US finance industry since the 1930s, promising US taxpayers would no longer get the bill for Wall Street excess. The legislation, which some ...

Another Week Of Washington Freak Shows.

Ladies and gentlemen, we call your attention to the center ring. The daring young man and his spectacular apologetics, fresh from several world tours, has unveiled his domestic groveling to a ‘sista’ who had been grossly misunderstood by officials of her own Agriculture Department and White House apparatchiks, whose zeal for glossing over reverse-racial incidents against the white majority in the country had finally jumped out and bit them. Not since Barack Obama’s pathetic groveling in front of ‘Old Mexico’s’ third-world president have we seen a performance this lame. The Barack Obama traveling freak show is putting on a strong performance of threatening ...

NEW YORK, July 23 (Reuters) - General Electric delivered a shot of confidence to U.S. investors when it raised its dividend on Friday, pushing the S&P 500 through the key 1,100 level. GE (GE.N) gained nearly 4 percent in high volume after the U.S. conglomerate increased its quarterly dividend by 20 percent. GE's move spurred heavy institutional buying and sparked a decisive move higher, a positive sign of rising investor optimism. The wide-ranging impact GE has on the economy, coupled with another round of strong earnings, bolstered investor confidence. "GE is a company whose tentacles extend throughout large parts of the economy, and (the hike) clearly shows they're ...

THE OBAMA DEPRESSION -- Roubini: Don't Fear Double Dip, It's Already Here

Economist Nouriel Roubini says the much feared double-dip recession has already arrived. "Whatever letter of the alphabet U.S. economic performance ultimately resembles, what is coming will feel like a recession," Roubini writes on project-syndicate,org. "Mediocre job creation and a further rise in unemployment, larger cyclical budget deficits, a fresh fall in home prices, larger losses by banks on mortgages, consumer credit, and other loans, and the risk that Congress will adopt protectionist measures against China will see to that." At best, Roubini says, “we face a protracted period of anemic, below-trend growth in advanced economies as deleveraging by ...

Shirley Sherrod got her phone call from President Obama. I’m not quite sure why she was so eager to speak to him… she did not seem to hold him accountable for her recent predicament and, in an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Sherrod stated that she did not want an apology from him or indeed expect one, given his position as President. Ms Sherrod has learned one thing – Obama only apologizes when overseas. Barack Obama had no part in this affair, although the fallout has come back to sting him in the tail. A good leader is one that takes responsibility for the actions of his team. In that respect, he should have apologized for the hasty decision of his Agriculture ...

WASHINGTON – What, did you think the fight for health care reform was over? Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-CA), co-chair of the progressive caucus, is making good on her promise to continue pushing for a public health insurance option after the enactment of sweeping reform legislation. On Thursday afternoon, the Northern California congresswoman will announce the introduction of a bill offering consumers a choice between private plans and a "robust" public plan in the health insurance exchanges set up by the law. "The robust public option offers lower-cost competition to private insurance companies," Woolsey told Raw Story. "This will make insurance more affordable ...

Wal-Mart Radio Tags to Track Clothing

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. plans to roll out sophisticated electronic ID tags to track individual pairs of jeans and underwear, the first step in a system that advocates say better controls inventory but some critics say raises privacy concerns. Starting next month, the retailer will place removable "smart tags" on individual garments that can be read by a hand-held scanner. Wal-Mart workers will be able to quickly learn, for instance, which size of Wrangler jeans is missing, with the aim of ensuring shelves are optimally stocked and inventory tightly watched. If successful, the radio-frequency ID tags will be rolled out on other products at Wal-Mart's more than 3,750 U.S. stores. ...

26,000 Square Miles Of Gulf Reopened To Fishing

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- The government is allowing commercial and recreational fishing again in roughly one third of the waters it had closed because of the BP oil spill. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said the area that reopened Thursday is 26,388 square miles of federal waters in the Gulf. The administration said that since mid-June, no oil had been found in the area. Additionally, projections of where the oil might go in the future shows a low risk of the area being hit. NOAA also says fish caught in the area and tested have shown no signs of contamination. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke says that the reopening provides important assurance that seafood is safe and ...

Rand Paul Tells Farmers They May Face Cuts

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Republican Senate candidate Rand Paul told an audience of Kentucky farmers Thursday their federal payments may need to be cut in the interest of national debt reduction, a declaration his Democratic rival said posed a threat to tens of thousands of the state's residents. "I'm always going to put Kentucky first. I'm not going to come up with a risky scheme," attorney general Jack Conway said in a feisty joint appearance with his tea party-backed opponent in one of the country's most closely watched races. Appearing before the state Farm Bureau Federation board of directors, Paul denied that he favors elimination of the Department of ...

The cap sealing the Gulf of Mexico oil well will remain on even if the site has to be evacuated because of a looming storm, top US official Admiral Thad Allen said Thursday. Allen said the decision on whether to evacuate the site and pack up drilling vessels and scores of other vessels would be taken later Thursday but the well would stay sealed regardless. "Based on the recommendations of Doctor Stephen Chu, the Secretary of Energy, and the science team we have determined that if we have to evacuate the site we are prepared to leave the well capped," he said. Officials hoped to keep some vessels on the scene in the case of an evacuation so they could continue to run the ...

Checks Are Coming: Obama Signs Unemployment Bill

WASHINGTON – Federal checks could begin flowing again as early as next week to millions of jobless people who lost up to seven weeks of unemployment benefits in a congressional standoff. President Barack Obama on Thursday signed into law a restoration of benefits for people who have been out of work for six months or more. Congress approved the measure earlier in the day. The move ended an interruption that cut off payments averaging about $300 a week to 2 1/2 million people who have been unable to find work in the aftermath of the nation's long and deep recession. At stake are up to 73 weeks of federally financed benefits for people who have exhausted their 26 weeks of state ...

If Sharron Angle fails to defeat Reid this election it is because she wanted to and her team should get out of politics completely. There could not be a bigger idiot and more out-of-touch politician than Harry Reid and he needs to join the ranks of Obama’s unemployed. Yesterday, he opened his cake-hole on the auto bailout and evidently does not recall who and who did not receive government money: Yep, he’s that stupid. Ford didn’t get bailout money genius. And yes, we should have let GM and Chrysler implode. It was their own damn fault, we should not be saving businesses that cannot compete. By the way, Harry, is the war still lost? And have you learned to listen to ...

FRESNO, Calif. — A Greyhound bus traveling to Sacramento from Los Angeles crashed on a highway in California's Central Valley early Thursday, killing six and seriously injuring nine others. The bus, carrying 36 people, struck an SUV that had overturned in front of it, slammed into a concrete center divider and clipped another vehicle shortly after 2 a.m. just outside downtown Fresno, California Highway Patrol Officer Axel Reyes said. The bus went off the right shoulder of the highway and down a 15-foot embankment before hitting a eucalyptus tree and coming to rest on a freeway off-ramp with its front end smashed and tree branches jutting into the vehicle. This would have allowed readers to evaluate the full context and significance of these emails for themselves. Liberal bloggers who have seen snippets of their emails published by the Daily Caller had challenged Carlson to publish full email chains rather than cherry-picked fragments out of context. But the Daily Caller isn't going to, and Carlson tells me he will explain why in an online posting tonight. In case you haven't been following this flap, the Daily Caller has done a ...

Sarah Palin-Endorsed Alaska Senate Candidate Trailing Lisa Murkowski By Wide Margin Just how much is a Sarah Palin endorsement worth in Alaska? At least as far as the state's U.S. Senate GOP primary is concerned, not very much it seems. Incumbent Sen. Lisa Murkowki is leading challenger Joe Miller 62 percent to 30 percent, according to a Ivan Moore Research poll. (More than half of the Alaskans polled said that they had no impression of Miller.) Miller not only has Palin's backing but also the support of the Tea Party Express heading into the Aug. 28 primary. The National Journal reports that "Palin initially said she would back Murkowski and cut the senator's ...

Oil Spill Workers Prepare To Evacuate As Storm Approaches Gulf of Mexico

With weather conditions deteriorating in the eastern Caribbean, crews on dozens of ships around the blown-out oil well in the Gulf of Mexico were preparing to evacuate Thursday, having stopped work on efforts to finally kill the well and installed a plug to protect the relief well they are building from storm-roughened seas. Forecasters said Wednesday that there's a 50 percent chance of a tropical depression or storm in the area within the next 48 hours. BP Senior Vice President Kent Wells said that although boats and crew remain at the Macondo site, work on the relief well was stopped Wednesday to give hundreds of workers time to leave. or those of you unfamiliar with the story, let's take it from the beginning. The NAACP decided to smear the Tea Party as racists. Like many Americans, Andrew Breitbart didn't take kindly to something that has become a daily ritual during the Obama Administration -- conservatives being falsely denounced as racists. However, unlike most other people who are sick and tired of being lied about by the Left, Andrew Breitbart had the information he needed to fight back. So, he put out this video of Shirley Sherrod admitting that she discriminated against a farmer who came to her for help because he was white: Nobody in the crowd at the NAACP seemed to be disturbed about her ...

He could be President Obama's worst nightmare – a business mastermind, a natural problem solver and a black man of "substance" who says he would "take the race card off the table" in a challenge against Obama as the GOP presidential candidate in 2012. Has Obama met his match? "We need a realistic candidate to run on the Republican ticket who can beat Barack Obama – not just beat the Democrats," Herman Cain, an Atlanta radio talk-show host, former CEO of Godfather's Pizza and 2004 Senate seeker, told WND. "We've also got to beat Barack Obama." He added, "Obama is a master of rhetoric. He is a master of deceptive language. ...

There is so much blame to go around in the incredible FUBAR* surrounding the knee-jerk firing of USDA employee Shirley Sherrod that we need a massive manhunt to round up all the suspects. Leading the cast of screwups, of course, is serial liar Andrew Breibart and his co-conspirators at Fox News. Even among the bottom feeders of the right-wing, Breibart tops the scumbag list. He’s a vile creature with no regard for the truth or even basic human decency. When you combine his penchant for character assassination with the trial by innuendo nature of Fox News you have an unfettered propaganda machine. But even worse than than the propagandist feces of Breibart, et. al, was the willingness ...
