'Ground Zero Mosque' Imam Helped FBI With Counterterrorism Post Date: 2010-08-17 21:28:42 by go65

In March 2003, federal officials were being criticized for disrespecting the rights of Arab-Americans in their efforts to crack down on domestic security threats in the post-9/11 environment. Hoping to calm the growing tempers, FBI officials in New York hosted a forum on ways to deal with Muslim and Arab- Americans without exacerbating social tensions. The bureau wanted to provide agents with "a clear picture," said Kevin Donovan, director of the FBI's New York office. Brought in to speak that morning -- at the office building located just blocks from Ground Zero -- was one of the city's most respected Muslim voices: Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf. The imam offered what was for ...
Will Republicans Save Us? Post Date: 2010-08-17 17:18:15 by Capitalist Eric

Democrat control of the White House, House of Representatives and the Senate has produced an unprecedented level of political brazenness and contempt for the limitations placed on the federal government by the U.S. Constitution. As such, it has raised a level of constitutional interest and anger against Washington's interference in our lives that has been dormant for far too long. Part of this heightened interest and anger is seen in the strength of the tea party movement around the nation. Another is the angry reception that many congressmen receive when they return to their districts and at town hall meetings. According to the most recent Gallup poll, only 20 percent of Americans ...

S.C. Mom Confessed to Killing Children Before Sinking Car in River, Authorities Say Post Date: 2010-08-17 14:28:00 by WhiteSands

The mother of two dead toddlers confessed to suffocating the children before strapping them into her car and driving her vehicle into a river, South Carolina authorities say. Orangeburg County Sheriff Larry Williams told reporters Tuesday that 29-year-old Shaquan Duley has been charged with two counts of murder after her sons' bodies were pulled from the Edisto River on Monday. Williams said Duley told police she was distraught after a dispute with her own mother and killed her children by putting her hand over their mouths. "The children were dead when they were placed into the water," Williams said, adding that there were many inconsistencies in the mother's initial ...
GOP Takes Historic Lead in Generic Ballot (Dems on suicide watch) Post Date: 2010-08-17 13:15:22 by Nebuchadnezzar

The latest Gallup generic ballot test shows the Republicans leading the Democrats by the largest spread in the history of the generic ballot. Republicans lead by seven points -- 50 percent to 43 percent. This also appears to be the first time Republicans have ever hit 50 percent in the history of the Gallup generic ballot. If you take into consideration that Republicans' leads expand (or deficits shrink) by four or five points once pollsters apply a likely voter screen, then the Gallup result is consistent with the latest Rasmussen poll, which shows a twelve-point Republican lead. In Rasmussen's balloting, Republicans lead 48 percent to 36 percent. To put things into perspective, ...

Washington -- The CIA has tapes of 9/11 plotter Ramzi Binalshibh being interrogated in a secret overseas prison. Discovered under a desk, the recordings could provide an unparalleled look at how foreign governments aided the U.S. in holding and questioning suspected terrorists. The two videotapes and one audiotape are believed to be the only remaining recordings made within the clandestine prison system. The tapes depict Binalshibh's interrogation sessions at a Moroccan-run facility the CIA used near Rabat in 2002, several current and former U.S. officials told The Associated Press. They spoke on the condition of anonymity because the recordings remain a closely guarded secret. When ...

Two weeks ago, as federal officials prepared to declare that some three-quarters of the estimated 5 million barrels of oil released into the Gulf over three months had disappeared, Mark Williams, a fishing boat captain hired by BP to help with the spill cleanup, encountered tar balls as large as three inches wide floating off the Florida coast. Reporting his findings to his supervisor, a private consulting company hired by BP, the reply, according to his logbook came back: "Toldno reporting of oil or tar balls anymore. Don't put on report. We're here for boom removal only," referring to the miles of yellow and orange containment barriers placed throughout the Gulf. ...

10 Signs The U.S. is Becoming a Third World Country The United States by every measure is hanging on by a thread to its First World status. Saddled by debt, engaged in wars on multiple fronts with a rising police state at home, declining economic productivity, and wild currency fluctuations all threaten Americas future. The general designations of the ranking system for world status date back to the 1950s, and have included countries at various stages of economic development. Since the Cold War, the definition has come to be synonymous with repressive countries where a wealthy class of ruling elites segment society into the haves and have-nots, many times capitalizing on the ...

Carl Levin in the face with an apple pie during the Armed Services Committee chairman's meeting with constituents in northern Michigan, authorities said Monday. The senator took a question near the end of the Monday morning meeting in Big Rapids from a man who said he was a student, Levin's office said in a news release. The man read a long statement, then a woman came up and hit Levin with a pie. Big Rapids police arrested Ahlam M. Mohsen, 22, of Coldwater, on assault and disorderly conduct charges. Fifteen men allegedly looking to have sex with underage girls were arrested in an undercover sting in Florida over the weekend, law enforcement authorities said. The suspects were arrested between Thursday and Sunday and charged with traveling to meet a minor for sex or related crimes, during an extensive undercover operation conducted by the Polk County Sheriffs Office, along with state and federal officials. Police said 12 of the 15 suspects responded to ads authorities posted on Craigslist that shared the common theme mom or dad seeking guidance for my daughter for girls between 10 and 14 years old. The other three used chat rooms. After the suspects answered the ...

Two gun rights advocacy groups the Second Amendment Foundation, the Illinois State Rifle Association filed the lawsuit, along with shooting range equipment maker Action Target Inc. and three individual plaintiffs. Barack Obama is abandoned by the Left as his approval ratings collapse Post Date: 2010-08-16 21:17:47 by WhiteSands

When your own tribe turns on you, youre in serious trouble. Barack Obama was never going to convert Republican irreconcilables. Many US conservatives had convinced themselves before the election that Obama would be an interfering socialist. Fair enough: he was never really after their support. Far more worrying for the forty-fourth president is the way in which he has been abandoned by his own. Here is Maureen Dowd in the New York Times: Weve known that the Left was mad at Obama, but now we know Obama is mad at the Left. Obama and Gibbs [the White House press secretary] are upset that the Lefties wont recognize the necessity of compromise. The Left is snapping back: What ...
Court halts Calif. FAGGOT "marriages" pending appeal Post Date: 2010-08-16 19:35:15 by A K A Stone

SAN FRANCISCO A federal appeals court put same-sex weddings in California on hold indefinitely Monday while it considers the constitutionality of the state's gay marriage ban. The decision, issued by a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, trumps a lower court judge's order that would have allowed county clerks to begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples on Wednesday. Lawyers for the two gay couples that challenged the ban said Monday they would not appeal the panel's decision on the stay to the Supreme Court. In its two-page order granting the stay, the 9th Circuit agreed to expedite its consideration of the Proposition 8 case. The ...
Homebuilder confidence sinks for 3rd month Post Date: 2010-08-16 18:17:03 by WhiteSands

Alan Zibel, AP Real Estate Writer, On Monday August 16, 2010, 11:30 am EDT WASHINGTON (AP) -- Homebuilder confidence dropped for the third straight month in August as the struggling economy and a flood of cheap foreclosed properties kept people from buying new homes. The National Association of Home Builders said its monthly index of builders' sentiment about the housing market fell to 13, the lowest reading since March 2009. The index is adjusted for seasonal factors. Readings below 50 indicate negative sentiment about the market. The last time the index was above 50 was in April 2006. Fewer people are buying new homes, even though prices have stabilized in the past year and those ...

As John Williams (shadowstats.com) has made clear on many occasions, an appearance of recovery was created by over-counting employment and undercounting inflation. Warnings by Williams, Gerald Celente, and myself have gone unheeded, but our warnings recently had echoes from Boston University professor Laurence Kotlikoff and from David Stockman, who excoriated the Republican Party for becoming big-spending Democrats. It is encouraging to see some realization that, this time, Washington cannot spend the economy out of recession. The deficits are already too large for the dollar to survive as reserve currency, and deficit spending cannot put Americans back to work in jobs that have been moved ...

Louisiana's first shrimping season since the BP oil disaster spewed millions of gallons of crude into the Gulf of Mexico got underway Monday, but few boats took to the water and the ones that did found oil, a major shrimp wholesaler said. "We got four boats that went out -- out of 1,400 -- and I'm hearing they're finding oil," Dean Blanchard, the largest shrimp wholesaler in the United States told AFP by phone from Grand Isle, Louisiana. "They drag, they find oil, they throw the stuff back in, and they're looking for cleaner waters," he said. The Louisiana commission of wildlife and fisheries announced that the August shrimp season would open on ...

Tea Partiers Say Net Neutrality Hurts Freedom Post Date: 2010-08-16 12:52:52 by go65

The tea party, a movement whose success on the grassroots level is in many ways attributable to the power of free and open Internet communications, is joining the growing conservative crusade against the FCC's plan to enforce net neutrality on internet service providers. According to one tea partier involved in the effort, the movement is opposing net neutrality because "it's an affront to free speech and free markets." The push toward an Internet regulated by corporations rather than government seems to be a new part of the tea party agenda, with fears mounting that the Obama administration's push for net neutrality is, essentially, the next cap-and-trade, government ...
Obama An Embarrassment. Post Date: 2010-08-16 12:36:03 by Skip MacLure

I dont think the weak and indecisive Jimmy Carters presidency was as far down the road to self destruction as is Obamas. After all, by his second year, all Jimmy could lay claim to is giving the Panama Canal to the Chinese, among some of his other global peace initiatives. Carter is, however, a classic example of the liberal mindset. One of the most obvious failings that Barack Hussein Obama has in common with Jimmy, is the absolute tone-deafness they have with regard to the American people. It was over for Carter when he went in front of national television, to piously proclaim that Americans had to make do with less. That we should turn down our heaters and ...
Justices Won't Stay $20,000-Fine on "Birther" Attorney Orly Taitz Post Date: 2010-08-16 12:00:27 by Brian S

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to stay $20,000 in sanctions against attorney-dentist Orly Taitz, a leading figure in the so-called birther movement. Taitz was fined by U.S. District Judge Clay Land of Columbus, Ga., last year in connection with her motion for a restraining order to prevent the deployment to Iraq of her client, Capt. Connie Rhodes, a U.S. Army physician. Taitz argued the deployment order was illegal because President Barack Obama was serving illegally as president. Land rejected the motion as frivolous. Taitz subsequently publicly declared his decision an act of treason and filed a motion for a rehearing. Land rejected the second motion and ...

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one. - Charles Mackay- Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds The American public thinks they are rugged individualists, who come to conclusions based upon sound reason and a rational thought process. The truth is that the vast majority of Americans act like a herd of cattle or a horde of lemmings. Throughout history there have been many instances of mass delusion. They include the South Sea Company bubble, Mississippi Company bubble, Dutch Tulip bubble, and Salem witch trials. It appears that mass delusion ...
