Disturbing Trend -- and Worse to Come Eileen F. Toplansky As the economy continues to worsen under Obama's "recovery" plan, more disturbing news emerges. A record number of workers made hardship withdrawals from their 401(k) retirement plans. In fact, "the number of workers borrowing from their accounts reached a 10-year high" and reflects "the financial stress many workers" are experiencing according to Beth McHugh, Fidelity's vice president of marketing insight. The report was made by Fidelity Investments which administers 17,000 plans and represents 11 million participants. The number of people initiating the hardship distributions has risen from ...

The Dept. of Homeland Insecurity, which KNOWS he voted illegally, is HELPING him try and purge his felonious record in order to smooth his path to citizenship.

Leaked White House Memo Advises Democrats on How to Spin Obamacare [Full Thread] Post Date: 2010-08-21 16:09:23 by WhiteSands

Politico has released a piece that begins as follows: "Key White House allies are dramatically shifting their attempts to defend health care legislation, abandoning claims that it will reduce costs and deficit, and instead stressing a promise to 'improve it.'" This is a truly remarkable sentence. Legislation that the Congressional Budget Office says would cost about $2.5 trillion in its real first decade (2014 to 2023) wouldn't do the one thing that Americans most want out of health-care legislation: cut health care costs. It wouldn't, despite the administration's repeated claims to the contrary, cut deficits. But, on the bright side, it can (allegedly) be ...
American Indian Tribe Miffed by Bloomberg Remark Sues to Block N.Y. Cigarette Tax Post Date: 2010-08-21 15:37:13 by WhiteSands

A Native American tribe that got into an unusual war of words with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the entire state government last week has asked a federal judge to step in and settle a dispute over cigarette taxes. The Seneca Nation of Indians, one of six tribes in the state, on Friday filed a motion in U.S. District Court urging the judge to block the state from collecting millions in taxes on normally tax-free cigarettes sold by the tribes. The court action came after efforts to reach a truce with Gov. David Paterson fell through. "We had hoped to come to an understanding where the parties would have an orderly and agreed upon processing of the merits of our claims. ...
That Was The Week That Was #3. Post Date: 2010-08-21 14:18:07 by Skip MacLure

The week started with the Drudge Report headline Mosque Mess Monday. It was to get more messy as the week progressed, especially for the fragmenting Democrats. The previous Friday, Barack Obama had openly declared, at the White House iftar, that it was a constitutional right to be able to build a mosque. Naturally, this greatly pleased the mostly Muslim dinner guests. When challenged on his statement the following day, during a family visit to Florida, Obama explained that he had not been commenting on the wisdom of the decision to place a mosque there. Wisdom was far from the minds of the perpetrators of this odious scheme. Its a shame that Obama did not use some of the ...
What Warren Harding Could Teach Obama About Jobs, Jobs, Jobs Post Date: 2010-08-21 09:35:40 by no gnu taxes

Glenn Beck, bless him, has opened the gate for American conservatives to finally appreciate and learn from a man who should have been one of their greatest heroes; President Obama needs to learn from that great man too. I am of course referring not to the vastly overrated Theodore Roosevelt (If hed been President in 1914, at least 2 million American boys would have been sent to useless deaths in World War I - but more on that another time.), but to the sainted Warren G. Harding. American conservatives revere Calvin Coolidge, but are embarrassed by his predecessor. Yet Coolidge literally Did Nothing nothing good at all. He inherited a booming economy from his far greater ...
Catholic church in middle of immigration reform issue Post Date: 2010-08-20 21:51:34 by WhiteSands

HAMILTON Nowhere was it more apparent than at St. Julie Billiart Parish Saturday, June 19, how much the Catholic church has placed itself in the center of the immigration debate. Inside the churchs bingo hall, hundreds of Mexicans lined up for passports or Mexican IDs at the Mobile Mexican Consulates Office. In front of the cathedral on Dayton Street, dozens of activists marched along the street with picket signs, some reading Immigrants welcome. Illegals go home. The Rev. Manuel Viera said the church for years has agreed to host the consular office as a way to serve the community here, very much in line with the teaching of the Catholic church. ...
US Catholic Church tarred with new child sex abuse scandal Post Date: 2010-08-20 18:50:47 by WhiteSands

LOS ANGELES The Roman Catholic Church in the United States has become embroiled in a new pedophilia scandal with six women and one man alleging sexual abuse by a priest over three decades. The lawsuit filed Wednesday in Oakland, California accused Father Stephen Kiesle of acts of sexual abuse between 1972 and 2001, and alleged that Catholic Church officials knew of the crimes but did not stop them. Pedophile priest scandals and allegations of high-level cover-ups that swept Australia and the United States in 2004 have surged again since last year and rocked the Catholic Church in Europe and the United States. "The Catholic bishops in the United States of America and the Holy ...

Bugsy Williamsburg Animal Control (Wayne Perkins) Kills Dog It Was Called To Help Reporter: Gabriel Roxas, Email Address: Gabriel.Roxas@wkyt.com When a stray dog befriended workers at some Williamsburg businesses, the animal lovers thought they were doing the dog a favor by calling animal control. They never thought their new friend would be gunned down with a shotgun by the man they called to help, but they say that's exactly what happened. Bugsy needed a home. For days workers at the Whitley Pharmacy and surrounding businesses gave him food, but they decided the county's animal control officer could get Bugsy the help he needed. World markets dropped further Friday as concerns about the U.S. economy continued to weigh on sentiment after yet another batch of disappointing data. Those fears had knock-on effects elsewhere, with the euro sliding below $1.27 for the first time in five weeks and oil prices falling to a six-week low. In Europe, the FTSE 100 index of leading British shares was down 20.07 points, or 0.4 percent, at 5,191.22 while Germany's DAX fell 51.07 points, or 0.8 percent, to 6,024.06. The CAC-40 in France was 37.74 points, or 1.1 percent, lower at 3,534.66. On Wall Street, stocks took a hammering at the open before recovering around half their losses -- soon after the open, the Dow Jones ...
Palin In February: We'd Be 'Appalled' If Public Figure Used "N-Word" Post Date: 2010-08-20 11:40:29 by go65

Sarah Palin continues to defend Dr. Laura Schlessinger's use of the word "n****r" and blame liberals for forcing the controversial conservative radio show off the air. But just a few months ago Palin was adamant that using the "N-word," and other offensive terms, should be a firing offense...if you're a Democrat. "I would ask the president to show decency in this process by eliminating one member of [his] inner circle, Mr. Rahm Emanuel," Palin wrote in February. "The Obama Administration's Chief of Staff scolded [liberal critics] calling them, 'F---ing retarded,' according to several participants, as reported in the Wall Street ...

Just a few minor things to catch up on for the weekend now that the Fundraiser-in-Chief has gone on another vacation (Don't worry though. White House chef Sam Kass went along, so the first family need not eat ordinary human food.) -- The Congressional Budget Office says the 2010 federal deficit will be in excess of $1.3 trillion, as in $1,000,000,000,000+. (BTW, the next level we'll be talking about out of Washington is quadrillion, which has fifteen 0's.) -- Despite Vice President Joe Biden's April boast that administration stimulus spending would spur the economy to add a half-million jobs a month by now, initial unemployment claims jumped a half-million last week, the ...

Arnold Schwarzenegger has privately proposed borrowing $2 billion from the state's giant pension fund to help bridge California's $19 billion budget deficit. The plan would take the money as an advance against future savings from pension cuts, according to sources close to the negotiations who would not be identified because of the sensitive nature of the talks. The Republican governor is demanding that lawmakers reduce pension benefits for newly hired state workers back to ...
Bolton was Contradicted by Bush on Iran’s Bushehr Reactor Post Date: 2010-08-20 10:42:00 by go65

Former US ambassador and perennial angry old crank John Bolton is so upset about the possibility that Irans Bushehr nuclear reactor will soon go live that he says Israel has a window of only 8 days to attack it and destroy it. (After a reactor is already working, bombing it would turn it into a dirty bomb and harm large numbers of civilians, which even Bolton isnt yet in favor of). But Boltons former boss, George W. Bush, endorsed the Russian reactor deal with Iran in 2007: Bush noted Russias announcement that it would ship nuclear fuel to Irans first atomic power station, the unfinished Bushehr plant, and said such deliveries further reduced Tehrans ...
Questions Mount About White House's Overly Rosy Report On Oil Spill Post Date: 2010-08-20 10:27:12 by Fred Mertz

Two congressmen on Thursday questioned why the Obama administration made a major announcement about what happened to the oil in the Gulf of Mexico earlier this month without the science to back it up . Massachusetts Democratic Rep. Ed Markey demanded that NOAA surrender the data and algorithms behind its increasingly controversial estimate, so that independent scientists could assess the credibility of its conclusion that the vast majority of the oil BP spilled in the Gulf is gone, At a subcommittee hearing he chaired, Markey said the report was premature, has led to false confidence, and could be flat wrong. See my story on the hearing. And California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa ...
The Obama Failure Post Date: 2010-08-20 09:01:31 by no gnu taxes

Why? Heres why:
To be blunt, Obama suffers from a lifetime of others excessively praising his intellect. It insulates him from ideas and facts that conflict with his pre-existing liberal rubric (so every economist believed his stimulus would work). It leaves him unprepared to engage in real debate with informed opponents (e.g. the health-care summit). It skews his understanding of how geopolitics works, as he imagines that his own wonderfulness can sway adversaries and override nations fundamental interests (the Middle East). Is he as well read as George W. Bush? As intellectually creative as Bill Clinton? As grounded in history as Harry Truman? Lets ...
Arizona Law Gains Favor. Post Date: 2010-08-20 06:55:46 by Skip MacLure

It looks like Arizona has a lot of serious company out there just now. No fewer than twenty two states are in the process of drafting, or seeking to pass, legislation such as was passed by Arizona. Others are looking at the Arizona law with renewed interest. The cash strapped municipalities, counties and states can ill afford the lavish largesse, once routinely offered to illegals by liberal governments. The gravy train is petering out for one reason
there is no money. Federal programs and make-work grants are fizzling out. The stimulus simply didnt work. That money is running out. The sectors favored most by the infusion of these federal dollars are of course the people to ...
Wal-Mart Quietly Raises Prices Post Date: 2010-08-19 21:10:47 by A K A Stone

Wal-Mart Stores (WMT), which for years has touted its prowess at lowering prices, has been doing the opposite as it tries to bolster its bottom line amid stagnating sales. A JPMorgan Chase (JPM) study of a Walmart Supercenter in Virginia found that the world's largest retailer has raised prices by nearly 6% on average over the past six weeks, according to the New York Post. Reuters says it was the biggest sequential increase since JPMorgan started the study in January 2009. Some Prices Hiked Over 60% Some of the price hikes were considerably larger. For instance, the price of a 32-ounce bottle of Windex household cleaner jumped 50%, a 12-ounce box of Quaker Oats instant grits ...
'Ground Zero' Imam: 'I Am a Jew, I Have Always Been One' Post Date: 2010-08-19 20:07:04 by WhiteSands

The right-wing campaign against the so-called "Ground Zero mosque" includes vicious personal attacks on the Muslim cleric who leads the Cordoba Initiative, the organization behind the plan. I know Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf, and I know him to be a moderate, forward-leaning Muslim -- yes, it is true he has said things with which I disagree, but I have never expected him to function as a member of the Zionist Organization of America. In 2003, Imam Rauf was invited to speak at a memorial service for Daniel Pearl, the journalist murdered by Islamist terrorists in Pakistan. The service was held at B'nai Jeshurun, a prominent synagogue in Manhattan, and in the audience was Judea Pearl, ...
Bypassing Senate, Vacationing President Obama Makes 4 Recess Appointments Post Date: 2010-08-19 19:44:57 by Brian S

VINEYARD HAVEN, Mass. (AP) -- Once again bypassing a gridlocked Senate, President Barack Obama acted Thursday to install three agency officials and a diplomat whose nominations had stalled amid election-year squabbling. In a statement released shortly after he arrived here for vacation, Obama said the partisanship left him no choice but to resort to what's called a "recess appointment". He said Americans deserve better. "At a time when our nation faces so many pressing challenges, I urge members of the Senate to stop playing politics with our highly qualified nominees, and fulfill their responsibilities of advice and consent," Obama said. "Until they do, I ...
Nearly Half of United States Considering Arizona-Style Immigration Legislation Post Date: 2010-08-19 19:26:03 by WhiteSands

Twenty-two states are now in the process of drafting or seeking to pass legislation similar to Arizonas law against illegal immigration. This is occurring despite the fact that the Obama administration has filed a lawsuit against the Arizona law and a federal judge has ruled against portions of that law a ruling that is now being appealed. Next month, two Rhode Island state lawmakers, a Democrat and a Republican, will travel to Arizona to speak with Republican Gov. Jan Brewer, local sheriffs, and other officials about how to better craft their own bipartisan immigration bill for Rhode Island, which already has been enforcing some federal immigration laws. Meanwhile, 11 ...
Baseball Star Clemens Charged With Perjury In Steroid Testimony Post Date: 2010-08-19 19:19:46 by Brian S

(CNN) -- Retired baseball star Roger Clemens says he's looking forward to fighting perjury and other charges brought against him Thursday and again denied he ever used performance-enhancing drugs. A federal grand jury in Washington has charged the seven-time Cy Young winner with perjury, obstruction of Congress and making false statements over his insistence to a House committee that he never used steroids or human growth hormone. "I never took HGH or steroids. And I did not lie to Congress," Clemens said in a statement posted on the website Twitter. "I look forward to challenging the government's accusations, and hope people will keep an open mind until trial. I ...
