On yesterday, President Obama simply did not give President George W. Bush, who against great unpopularity, maintained a commitment to staying the course in Iraq. He also championed the surge strategy that ultimately led to significant success in Iraq. Now, whether you like President Bush or not, you have to admit that he did start the Iraq War; therefore, he should have been given more credit by President Obama for the success in Iraq and for helping to provide the troops with the support they needed to come home with the honor that they have earned. To say that President Obama’s speech, marking the retirement of our last combat units from Iraq, was uninspiring… well, it was uninspiring. As usual, he’s taking credit for something that was planned back in the Bush administration. He did acknowledge former President Bush in an offhand sort of way, making it almost an insult. Housing Numbers - Are They Being Cooked? I have a very disturbing email that came in this evening. It alleges out-and-out fraudulent reporting of home sales in one of the regional MLS systems. That is, prices paid that are in fact much lower than the "sold" prices reported in the MLS. The person in question claims to have seen over 100 of these in his area. I have copies of two, and it appears, from the evidence that I have, that at least for those two the claim is accurate. One in particular I was able to pull the auction data on. It "sold" under reserve, is listed as sold in the MLS at ~25% higher than the "sold" bid, and the premium is disclosed as 5%. ...

The trajectory of Hurricane Earl has created hurricane warnings around North Carolina, and watches up and down the eastern US Seaboard.
