House Republican leaders won’t say whether they will scrap an ethics office if they regain the majority this fall. The Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE), established by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in 2008, has attracted criticism from Republicans and Democrats during the last couple of years. A federal appeals court said Tuesday the government may obtain cell-site information that mobile phone carriers retain on their customers without a probable-cause warrant under the Fourth Amendment.
The decision by the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals (.pdf) was not, however, an outright Obama administration victory. Lower courts, the three-judge panel wrote, could demand the government show probable cause — the warrant standard — before requiring carriers to release such data to the feds.

More Republicans voted in this year's statewide primary elections than Democrats, according to a new study, marking the first time GOP turnout has exceeded Democratic turnout in midterm primaries since 1930. LOS ANGELES The Los Angeles sheriffs deputy who arrested Mel Gibson for drunken driving in 2006 has sued his department, claiming he has been ostracized by the department since the incident. Deputy James Mee sued the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department on Monday. The lawsuit claims the department discriminated against Mee, who is Jewish, on numerous occasions since Gibsons arrest. When Mike Tyson looks back on his friendship with Tupac Shakur, he thinks about the rapper's big heart, explosive anger - and the one regret he has about their relationship.
"He always wanted me to smoke weed with him, and I never did it, and I wish I did," Tyson said in a recent phone interview.
Tyson said he declined because he was a closet smoker and didn't want it to get out that he smoked the drug. Now, when he looks back on the lost opportunity, he says: "That's my biggest regret."
