Democrat Chris Coons holds a double-digit lead over Republican hopeful Christine O’Donnell in the first Rasmussen Reports post-primary survey of the U.S. Senate race in Delaware. Coons earns 53% of the vote to O’Donnell’s 42%, with leaners included. One percent (1%) prefer some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided. The Delaware race is now viewed as Solid Democrat in the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Senate Balance of Power rankings. This marks a remarkable turnaround in a race that at the beginning of the month was rated Solid Republican and was on track to be a GOP pickup. At that time, Congressman Mike Castle led Coons as he had been leading all year. ...

How To Truly Take Back America (A Conservative perspective)

How To Truly Take Back America Here's what the mainstream media isn't talking about, but the Republicans better be paying attention to. Notice how some Tea Party candidates are knocking off Republicans in primaries? That's mostly because the "big spend, big bailout, no matter how you do it" crap has worn out its welcome with the American people. Oh sure, you "saved the banks." Or did you? But you didn't do a damn thing for the American people, and worse, you didn't really save anything - you just let people lie. The people have figured it out, and they're ****ed. So here's a winning agenda. Run on it, you win. Don't, you might get ...

Dallas police file charges against 3 officers and fire 1 after dashboard cams record beating Three Dallas police officers, including one who was fired, will face criminal charges for their alleged roles in the beating of a suspect, which was caught on video by dashboard cameras, the police chief said Wednesday. Andrew Collins, 28, suffered bruising and blood clots earlier this month after being struck by officers, who hit him about seven times with their fists and batons. The alleged beating lasted about 14 seconds following a chase. The video, which the department distributed to reporters, shows one of the officers moving the dashboard camera so that it does not film the incident. ...

The Dumb Rush

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Anyone listening to Rush Limbaugh’s radio show Tuesday could be forgiven for thinking that Judge Roger Vinson has the federal government dead in his sights. Mr. Limbaugh spent some time profiling Judge Vinson, a senior judge on the Federal District Court in Pensacola, who had just announced he would allow a legal challenge to the new health care law to advance to a full hearing. The conservative radio host informed his listeners that the judge was an avid hunter and amateur taxidermist who once killed three brown bears and mounted their heads over his courtroom door to “instill the fear of God into the accused.” “This,” Mr. Limbaugh said, ...

Paladino, Cuomo Rival, Set to Spend at Will

He is explosive, he does not play by the usual rules, and his throw-the-bums-out message has clearly connected with voters. He is also rich, and threatens to drive his populist crusade with millions of dollars in advertisements. That combination makes Carl P. Paladino, the newly minted Republican nominee for governor, a potentially tricky opponent for Andrew M. Cuomo, who many believed would face a more placid candidate this fall, Rick A. Lazio, a former congressman. On Wednesday, top Democrats and strategists for Mr. Cuomo, acknowledging that Mr. Paladino has tapped into genuine anger at Albany, said they would move to turn the focus away from that message and onto the man, who they say ...

Obama Is Borrrring! -- Reveals himself to be less articulate than George Bush

Obama’s public persona is so predictable and his image so overexposed that even the left is over him. He’s gone from fascinating and cool to a crashing bore in less than two years. Greg Sargent: “Seems the consensus is that Obama’s presser [Friday] was way too boring, substantive and unemotional to produce an abrupt and massive enough turnaround in the polls to guarantee in advance that Dems hold their majority.” Ditto, hisses Maureen Dowd: “How did the first president of color become so colorless?” Well, he ran out of catchphrases and revealed himself to be less articulate than George Bush. Dowd admits he sounds downright loopy at times: “How have ...

A new logo. Hah! With the disastrous results over the past year they had to do something… Obama is the worst jobs president since the Great Depression. The Obama-Pelosi economic plan resulted in a cumulative 7.5 million jobs deficit. By every objective measure the democrat’s Trillion dollar stimulus bomb was a complete disaster. Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi tripled the national deficit last year by nearly a trillion dollars – something unheard of in our nation’s history. After an unheard of record deficit last year of $1.4 Trillion the economy is on track to experience a $1.3 Trillion deficit this year. But, instead of focusing on the economy the past two years ...

Doheny holds slim lead over Hoffman in NY-23

Syracuse -- Political newcomer Matt Doheny clung to a narrow lead this morning of more than 600 votes over Doug Hoffman in a tightly-contested Republican primary for the 23rd Congressional District seat. With more than 95 percent of the vote in, the primary was likely to be decided by absentee ballots. The Associated Press called the race before midnight in favor of Doheny. By 2:15 a.m, today, Doheny had not declared victory and Hoffman had not conceded the election. “We’re very pleased with the trend that we have seen tonight,” said Alison Power, speaking for Doheny. “The one thing that is certain is that we will be pulling together and beating Bill Owens in ...

Questions Surround Del. Senate Hopeful O'Donnell

In the latest and perhaps most surprising win for the anti-establishment Tea Party, Delaware's Christine O'Donnell beat long-term Rep. Mike Castle, a moderate, for the Republican Party’s Senate nomination. The outcome rocked the GOP and led many to ask: Who is Christine O'Donnell? By all accounts, she is sharp, charming and energetic. With her Sarah Palin looks — and endorsement — plus the backing of Tea Party groups, she motivated many Republicans to reject the establishment guy. The questions come when you start delving into O'Donnell's background. She is 41 and this is her third run for the Senate. Delaware's biggest daily newspaper, The News ...

Establishment GOP Reverses – What’s With Karl Rove?

So, there must have been some beltway reality checks. Or the instantaneous nature of internet communication made the country’s mood glaringly important in helping them along with their ponderous decision rendering process. i.e. The RNC, the NRSC, and every Republican leader they could reach got goosed in the butt by a lot of very angry people. In any case, the Conservative Patriots went nuts when they heard that Christine O’Donnell wasn’t just being ignored by the self-appointed elites, she was being actively opposed and attacked by some of the establishment types. Ok, so we have our own party actively working to ensure that the elected candidate, the choice of the people, ...

Democrats Seize On McConnell's Plan To Add $4 Trillion To The Deficit With Tax Cuts
Post Date: 2010-09-16 01:17:23 by Brian S

While they're figuring out how to proceed themselves, Democrats are giddy about a damning new report: The tax cut plan proposed by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (and backed by the vast majority of the GOP) to make all of the Bush tax cuts permanent will add about $4 trillion to the deficit over 10 years. That's more than four times the cost of the deficit-financed stimulus bill, which Republicans cite as evidence of Democrats' fiscal recklessness. This is nothing new, per se. As TPM reported last month, both the Democratic and the Republican plans for addressing the Bush tax cuts will add trillions to deficits relative to current law -- i.e., letting all the tax cuts ...

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell terminated a contract with an Israeli-American agency that tracked peaceful protests and reported them as potential terrorist threats. Rendell said Tuesday that he was "deeply embarrassed" by revelations of a $125,000 contract with the Philadelphia-based Institute of Terrorism Research and Response. The state's Office of Homeland Security contracted the institute to track threats, and then relayed its reports to a large number of law enforcement and private groups. Its "alerts" included an animal rights protest, a natural gas drilling protest, a gay and lesbian festival and a rally to support a Rendell-backed ...

New push for bill to aid sick 9/11 responders

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Backers of a bill to provide up to $7.4 billion in aid to people sickened by World Trade Center dust are renewing their push for the measure as a second House vote nears. First responders, survivors of the Sept. 11 attacks and New York lawmakers gathered Wednesday on Capitol Hill to press their case. They are urging passage of the bill to provide free health care and compensation to 9/11 rescue and recovery workers who fell ill after working in the trade center ruins. A vote is expected next week. In July, the bill failed to win the two-thirds majority needed under the procedure that Democratic leaders used to bring up the bill to block potential amendments. The bill ...

Large fire heavily damages landmark Cheyenne hotel

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) -- A large fire burned through the historic Hitching Post hotel Wednesday in Wyoming's capital of Cheyenne. Fire division chief John Fox says flames up to 20 feet high burned through the roof of the building. He says the whole front part of the sprawling hotel and conference center was scorched. The Hitching Post has been closed for a year amid financial trouble but was being remodeled and was due to reopen within weeks. For decades, the hotel was a second home for much of the Wyoming Legislature during the annual legislative session. No injuries were reported. Fox says the cause wasn't immediately apparent but will be investigated.

Colo. fire forecast better; residents may go home

LOVELAND, Colo. (AP) -- Residents forced out of their homes by a northern Colorado wildfire were allowed to return on Wednesday after high winds failed to materialize and ground crews made more progress against the blaze. About 100 people who were evacuated on Sunday were allowed to go home shortly after 2 p.m. "Threats to homes have been mitigated," said Terry Krasko, a spokesman for the fire management team. Firefighters had been told to expect winds of 20 to 25 mph Wednesday, but a revised forecast predicted only occasional gusts of that strength, with weaker winds overall. If the winds do kick up, firefighters have "a small air force" of tankers and helicopters ...

NEW YORK (AP) -- Edwin Newman, who brought literacy, wit and energy to NBC newscasts for more than three decades, and battled linguistic pretense and clutter in his best sellers "Strictly Speaking" and "A Civil Tongue," has died. He was 91. Newman died on Aug. 13 of pneumonia in Oxford, England. He had moved there with his wife in 2007 to live closer to their daughter, said his lawyer Rupert Mead. He said the family delayed announcing Newman's death so they could spend some time privately grieving. At NBC from 1952 until his retirement in 1984, Newman did political reporting, foreign reporting, anchoring of news specials, "Meet the Press," ...

After blast, DOT seeks tougher pipeline oversight

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Obama administration wants Congress to tighten oversight of the nation's pipelines and more than double penalties for some safety violations in response to a deadly gas explosion in California and a major oil spill in Michigan. Legislation sent to Congress Wednesday would increase from $1 million to $2.5 million the maximum fine for the most serious pipeline violations involving deaths, injuries or major environmental harm, the Department of Transportation said. It also would pay for an additional 40 inspectors and safety regulators over the next four years. The proposal follows several accidents, including last week's huge gas explosion in suburban San ...

Appeals court reverses Wash. ecoterror conviction

SEATTLE (AP) -- A federal appeals court has ordered a new trial for a woman convicted of helping to carry out a 2001 ecoterror attack that destroyed the University of Washington's Center for Urban Horticulture in Seattle. Briana Waters was found guilty of arson for serving as a lookout during Earth Liberation Front attack and sentenced to six years in prison. A unanimous three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Wednesday that U.S. District Judge Franklin Burgess made several errors that raised questions about the fairness of her trial. Prosecutors argued that Waters was connected to a cell of radical environmentalists that carried out attacks throughout the ...

Fort Hood suspect's attorney seeks closed hearing

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- The media and others should not be allowed to hear testimony next month from about three dozen survivors of last year's Fort Hood shooting rampage because the suspect, an Army psychiatrist, will be unable to get a fair trial, his attorney said Wednesday. Defense attorney John Galligan said he has requested that the Oct. 12 Article 32 hearing, similar to a civilian grand jury proceeding, be closed "to all spectators." The issue is to be addressed at a Thursday hearing in Fort Hood where attorneys also were to discuss what documents they still need in the case. Maj. Nidal Hasan is charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of ...

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Two people were buried in the wrong graves at Arlington National Cemetery, the Army said Wednesday, as it followed up an investigation into bookkeeping problems and burial mix-ups at one of the nation's most hallowed sites. After a report issued in June found that the problems could potentially affect thousands of graves, defense officials received about 1,100 calls from worried families. One of those calls, from the widow of an Army staff sergeant, led to the exhumation of her husband's casket late last month. The remains in it belonged to someone else, so officials opened a nearby grave and found the woman's husband, said Gary Tallman, an Army spokesman. ...

NEW YORK (AP) -- President Obama is still a hit with the nation's book buyers. Obama's tribute to 13 American ground breakers, "Of Thee I Sing," was in the top 25 on Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com as of Wednesday morning, less than two days after the children's book was announced and two months before its scheduled release. Random House Children's Books plans a first printing of 500,000 copies. Both of Obama's previous works, the memoir "Dreams From My Father" and the policy book "The Audacity of Hope," are million sellers. Obama, who finished "Of Thee I Sing" before his administration began, is the rare president to have ...
