Joseph Sobran, RIP Post Date: 2010-10-01 12:50:18 by jwpegler

The great American writer Joe Sobran died today in Arlington, Virginia, from complications of diabetes. He was just 64. There is much more to say about this extraordinary man, but for now I just want to mention his sacrificing his lucrative career at National Review on the altar of truth. When Joe opposed the first US war on Iraq, ex-CIA agent Bill Buckley first ordered him to submit to the warfare state, and when he wouldnt, fired him, even calling Joe an anti-Semite. But unlike Buckley and the other neocons who attacked him, Joe was no hater. He simply loved the Prince of Peace. Requiescat in pace.

and didnt like what it found. Conservative writers, myself included, are enamored with the emerging Conservative majority in the country. We observe closely, in awe of seeing a free people exercising their fundamental right to remove from office those they have strongly come to oppose. We are truly witnessing a shift in the fabric of American politics. Rick Santelli of CNBC financial news is the one who is credited with the term Tea Party, but if you check on the net youll find about ten pages of folks who claim to have invented it. Thats part of the mystique of the Conservative Patriot Movement. The Patriot groups have literally sprung up all over the country. ...
A Conservative Plan to Fix the Economy (Exposing GO65's Big Lie) Post Date: 2010-09-30 17:56:13 by Nebuchadnezzar

GO65, as you all know, is a liar. His tag-line is "Where is the conservative plan for growth (or the economy)?" I've posted this before and he ignores it. So I decided to post it for all to see that GO65 is, like all Liberals, a liar. This agenda is from Karl Mellinger. It's conservative to the core and unlike the "Spend, spend, spend" morons who infect DC, it would fix most of our economic problems. Here is THE CONSERVATIVE AGENDA: Ok, let's look at an actual path forward. Do this, we win. Don't do this, you need to come up with a path that does as much as this one will. Shut down the Chinese abuse engine. Right now. Either they revalue up 20 ...

U.S. stocks fell, trimming the biggest September rally since 1939, as investors sold some of the months best-performing shares amid speculation that improving economic data will reduce the need for the Federal Reserve to stimulate growth. Caterpillar Inc., which has rallied 21 percent in September for the top gain in the Dow Jones Industrial Average, fell 1.6 percent to lead the 30-stock gauge lower today along with biggest decliner American Express Co., which fell 2.4 percent. Apple Inc., up 17 percent this month, slumped 1.3 percent. Occidental Petroleum Corp. gained 2.2 percent, leading a measure of energy stocks to the only rise among 10 groups in the Standard & Poors 50 ...

American International Group Inc. agreed to wind down its $182.3 billion bailout by converting the Treasury Department stake into common shares for sale, a step toward independence for the insurer whose near collapse two years ago threatened the global economy. The company gained 3.4 percent in New York trading. Treasury will swap its preferred stake of $49.1 billion for 1.66 billion shares of common stock and then sell the holdings in the open market, AIG said today in a statement. The Treasury investment will break even if shares are sold at about $29 each. The sales will happen in phases over 18 months to two years, said a person with direct knowledge of the plan who declined to be ...

Before Republicans start pushing NJ Gov Chris Christie for President, as many did with "Republican" Colin Powell, we might want to find out what Christie actually stands for on more than one issue. I was hopeful he was more than just a conservative on certain fiscal issues. Government School Unions are as evil an institution as America ever tolerated. I'm glad he supports School Vouchers and I wish him luck with that in NJ; I wish more governors would follow suit. Unfortunately, however, someone who slams G-School Unions isn't necessarily your pal. Articles attached. (Note: The Unions spent nearly $20 million in cash to kill California's 1993 voucher initiative, ...

Jim DeMint rightly sounded off, calling out Congressional Democrats for leaving Washington without addressing the Bush tax cut extensions, despite the fact that more than thirty Democrats also voted to remain and take up the issue. It should be noted that at least some of these good folks are probably in real hot water in their districts and are desperate to be seen as fighting for the middle class, whom most of them despise. For all their care in infiltrating and disguising their intent the Marxists simply couldnt restrain themselves and the wave of progressive policy, starting with the Democrat majority of 2006 and culminating with George Bush, caving in to the ...

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The economy grew at a slightly faster pace in the second quarter than previously expected, but the pace of growth is still painfully slow. The nation's gross domestic product, the broadest measure of economic activity, was upwardly revised to an annual growth rate of 1.7% in the three months ending in June, the Commerce Department said Thursday. 11 EmailPrintComment Thursday's number is the government's third estimate for second-quarter GDP. The initial reading had been for a 2.4% growth rate during the period, but the government revised that number sharply lower to 1.6% in August, shocking Wall Street and heightening fears of a double-dip ...
Jobless Claims in U.S. Decreased 16,000 to 453,000 Last Week Post Date: 2010-09-30 09:58:31 by go65

Applications for U.S. unemployment benefits decreased last week, a sign companies are cutting back on firings even as economic growth slows. Initial jobless claims decreased by 16,000 to 453,000 in the week ended Sept. 25, lower than the median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg News, Labor Department figures showed today in Washington. The total number of people receiving unemployment insurance and those getting extended payments fell. As dismissals abate, employers also arent adding enough workers to reduce an unemployment rate thats hovering near a 26-year high. A lack of job growth suggests consumer spending, the biggest part of the economy, will be slow to pick ...
Economy loses speed in spring; more weakness ahead (The Obama Depression) Post Date: 2010-09-30 09:33:46 by no gnu taxes

The nation's economic growth tailed off sharply in the spring and probably isn't faring any better now. The Commerce Department reported Thursday that gross domestic product the broadest measure of the economy's health expanded at a feeble 1.7 percent annual rate in the April-to-June quarter. The new reading is a notch higher than the 1.6 percent growth rate the government estimated a month ago. But it marks a sharp slowdown from a 3.7 percent growth rate logged in the first quarter. And, the new figure doesn't change the big picture: The economy has been losing momentum since the end of last year. Many think the economy grew at around the same anemic pace, ...

(09-29) 16:52 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker, who struck down California's ban on same-sex marriage last month, will retire at the end of this year, his court said today. Walker, 66, a former business lawyer in San Francisco, was appointed to the court by President George H.W. Bush in 1990 and began a seven-year term as chief judge of the Northern District of California in September 2004. He will perhaps be best remembered for his Aug. 4 ruling overturning Proposition 8, the initiative passed by California voters in 2008 that defined marriage as the union of a man and a woman. The measure repealed a California Supreme Court ruling earlier that year that ...
Army's largest base reeling from four apparent suicides in one weekend Post Date: 2010-09-29 20:12:01 by Skip Intro

(CNN) -- Four soldiers from Fort Hood, Texas died over the week. In all four cases, it appears the soldiers, all decorated veterans from the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan, took their own lives, according to Christopher Haug, a Fort Hood spokesman. If confirmed as suicides, it would be on top of 14 other suicides on the base this year. Base officials called a news conference for Wednesday afternoon to discuss the problem of suicides at the huge base in central Texas. "Every one of these is tragic," said Maj. Gen. William Grimsley, the post commander. "It's personally and professionally frustrating as a leader." Grimsley did not announce any major action or response ...
Bastrop Man Convicted for Unwittingly Selling to illegal Post Date: 2010-09-29 16:23:35 by sneakypete

In Federal District Court the ATF won a conviction from an Austin jury that defies logic and reason. In a trial before Federal Judge Sam Sparks, government lawyers conceded Texas resident Paul Copeland did not know his buyer was an illegal alien, but the jury they should convict him anyway because he "had reasonable cause to believe" he was selling to an illegal alien because the two men and a boy who were present at his table at the time of the sale: 1) were Hispanic, 2) spoke Spanish, and 3) wore cowboy clothing. And the jury did as asked. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Freel acted as lead prosecutor in the case. The firearm transaction at issue occurred on January 16, 2010, ...

In one of the most closely watched U.S. House races in the nation, Republican Daniel Webster now holds a 7-point lead over Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson in Central Florida's 8th Congressional District, according to a new Sunshine State News Poll.
Webster, a former state senator, leads the freshman congressman 43-36 in the survey of 559 likely voters conducted Sept. 25-27. TEA ("Taxed Enough Already") Party candidate Peg Dunmire drew 6 percent and NPA hopeful George Metcalfe garnered 3 percent, while 9 percent remained undecided (2 percent cited "other" and 1 percent refused to state).
Digging deeper, the numbers look even worse for Grayson as 51 percent of respondents said they had an ...
The Insipid Mr Obama. Post Date: 2010-09-29 13:43:34 by Skip MacLure

What has happened to Barack Hussein Obama will go down as the most spectacular rise and fall in US political history. Barack Obama hasnt a clue what goes on in the minds and hearts of Americans. I saw a clip of Ann Coulter, where she states that Obama is not a Muslim
hes an atheist. Ann, Im not so sure. I dont believe hes a Christian either. Twenty years in the front row of a Black Liberation Theology church, run by a crackpot American-hating anti-semite, with strong ties to The Nation of Islam and through them the Muslim Brotherhood, is not exactly mainstream Christianity. Lets see
if Obama only attended about half the year, thats ...

ANOTHER College Denies Christine O'Donnell Attended Despite Her Claim Another university is bringing Christine O'Donnell's self-professed education history into question Wednesday, as Claremont Graduate University, a school that the Delaware Senate candidate claims she attended, has told Talking Points Memo that they have no record of her being there. "Claremont Graduate University has no student or education record for an individual named Christine O'Donnell," Rod Leveque, a spokesman for Claremont told TPM Tuesday, despite O'Donnell's inclusion of the school on her LinkedIn education history. A similar response had been given earlier to blogger ...

Prince George B.C.- Get out the snowshovels and the scarves, B.C. can expect a colder than normal winter says Environment Canadas Jim Steele. Speaking on the Meisner program this morning on CFISFM, Steele says it is all because of La Nina, the system developing in the Pacific. He says with colder than normal temperatures, it is quite likely there will be more snow .With the colder than normal temperatures, much of what would have been rain, will likely be snowfall says Steele. Steele says the jet stream will be dropping to the Washington state area and that means lots of cold air aloft. Already, Prince George has set a new record low for today. The old ...
Record cold, wet month in central Australia Post Date: 2010-09-29 08:16:45 by no gnu taxes

MUCH of central Australia, including Uluru, is in the midst of its coldest and wettest Septembers on record. This week has been particularly cold and wet. Rain on Wednesday brought 20 millimetres to Uluru and kept the temperature below 13 degrees all day, making it the coldest September day on record. It's more than four degrees colder than the previous record, set a little over a week ago. Uluru is averaging a maximum of only 23 degrees so far this month, more than six degrees below the long-term September average. With several more cold days to come this will almost certainly turn out to be the coldest September on record, colder than the previous coldest in 1984 when the maximum ...

New U.S. legislation will impact every user of the Internet. The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act would empower the U.S. Department of Justice to shut down, or block access to, websites found to be dedicated to infringing activities. The bill also contains provisions to block sites with domain names and Top-Level Domains (TLDs) that are maintained by overseas companies, which exist outside the U.S. legal jurisdiction and enforcement mechanism. The Justice Department would obtain court orders directing United States-based Internet Service Providers to stop resolving the IP addresses that allow customers in the United States to access the infringing websites. As ...
The Incredible Vanishing Congress. Post Date: 2010-09-28 14:39:45 by Skip MacLure

Congress might have been able to clear Washington faster in the face of something like the bubonic plague, but not by much. Washington is political poison for Democrats. They chose to leave town without addressing the extension of the Bush tax cuts. Not that their reception will be that much better out in their districts. People, many people who have never before participated in the political process, are energized
not in the sense of Obamas vacant-eyed, vacuous-expressioned, mind-numbed robots, parroting glitzy slogans without meaning to other mind-numbed robots. These people are not just energized. They have seen the threat to this country and have taken up the challenge. ...

The temperature was 58 degrees at LAX, tying a record set in 1951, the National Weather Service said. Oceanside dropped to 66 degrees, tying a record that has stood since 1914. Warm weather is expected across Southern California on Thursday and Friday as a high-pressure system builds over the region, the weather service said.
Banksters Inflate Speculative Food Bubble, U.N. Offers Global Governance Solution Post Date: 2010-09-28 13:35:41 by A K A Stone

Never let a good crisis go to waste. The international bankers are taking advantage of the "food crisis" by driving up food prices in what is shaping up to be a classic case of a manufactured bubble. It is also looking like a clear model of Problem-Reaction-Solution methodology. Create the food inflation problem (of course profiting all the way up), force an enraged reaction among the public, and take more sovereignty away with the solution of global food regulation. On July 1st, I wrote an article titled USDA Reports Food Shortages: Wall Street 'Caught Off Guard' by Severity, quoting a USDA report titled "Commodity professionals were caught off guard Wednesday by a ...

BERLIN A German firm that installs and manages gold vending machines aims to introduce them into the United States this year as it expands rapidly to take advantage of demand for bullion in times of economic uncertainty. Thomas Geissler, creator of the Gold to Go brand and chief executive of Ex Oriente Lux, told Reuters on the sidelines of the London Bullion Market Association conference that the company aims to issue a "couple of hundred" machines next year. Gold to Go launched its first ATM in Abu Dhabi's Emirates Palace hotel in May. They are now operating in luxury hotels in Abu Dhabi, Bergamo and Madrid as well as around Germany.
