West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchins bid to use a little firepower to stoke his campaign got a big thumbs-down from the head of his party, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine. Asked about Manchins latest ad, which has the governor using a hunting rifle to blast a mock version of the Democrats cap-and-trade climate bill, Kaine said, Im not wild about it. In the ad, Manchin promises that he will take on Washington and the administration to get the federal government off of our backs and out of our wallets. He also promises to repeal the bad parts of the Democrats health-care overhaul. Speaking at a breakfast gathering of ...
`How Dare You Take My Pension' Becomes Refrain as Voters Consider Cutbacks Post Date: 2010-10-14 12:06:04 by Brian S

Oct. 14 (Bloomberg) -- If anyone fits the profile of a San Francisco Democrat, its Jeff Adachi. In 2004, the elected public defender volunteered to officiate at ceremonies for same- sex couples during the citys short-lived attempt to legalize gay marriage. This year, though Adachi is running unopposed, he is drawing the scorn of fellow Democrats for embracing a new controversy: He spearheaded a November ballot proposition that would force city workers to pay more of their rising pension and health-care costs. How dare you! Leland Yee, a Democratic state senator from San Francisco, thundered into the microphone as about 100 workers rallied Oct. 5 against the measure ...

ANGLE TRIES TO EXPLAIN HER SHARIA LAW COMMENTS.... Picking the single craziest thing extremist Senate candidate Sharron Angle (R) has ever said is surprisingly difficult, but the Sharia law remarks from about two weeks ago have to be right up there. "Dearborn, Michigan, and Frankford, Texas are on American soil, and under Constitutional law. Not Sharia law. And I don't know how that happened in the United States," she said with her trademark incoherence. "It seems to me there is something fundamentally wrong with allowing a foreign system of law to even take hold in any municipality or government situation in our United States." None of this made any sense. ...

On his Fox Business show this week, host Neil Cavuto appeared worried that Republicans may be too confident about their chances of taking control of the House and/or Senate this November. Allay me of that anxiety that Republicans are getting ahead of themselves, Cavuto told climate change denier and former BP oil spill apologist Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX). While Barton agreed that the GOP may be measuring the drapes a bit prematurely, Cavuto wondered what the GOP would actually do if it won control of Congress. However, the Texas Republican admitted his party doesnt have much to offer: CAVUTO: I get a sense from Republicans collectively that theyre just already ...

They Gave Your Mortgage to a Less Qualified Minority by Ann Coulter 09/24/2008 On MSNBC this week, Newsweek's Jonathan Alter tried to connect John McCain to the current financial disaster, saying: "If you remember the Keating Five scandal that (McCain) was a part of. ... He's really getting a free ride on the fact that he was in the middle of the last great financial scandal in our country." McCain was "in the middle of" the Keating Five case in the sense that he was "exonerated." The lawyer for the Senate Ethics Committee wanted McCain removed from the investigation altogether, but, as The New York Times reported: "Sen. McCain was the only ...

CHICAGO (WLS) - The U.S. Justice Department is investigating whether the state of Illinois missed the deadline for mailing absentee ballots to members of the military and other overseas American voters as part of a new federal overseas voting law.
Cris Cray, Director of Legislation at the Illinois State Board of Elections, says not all of Illinois' 110 jurisdictions were compliant with the 2009 Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment Act (MOVE).
The law requires every state to mail their absentee ballots 45 days prior to Election Day to overseas troops, government employees and other Americans who want to vote from abroad.
Cray says she is currently compiling data from each of ...
How Do We Know What We Know? [Government Big Lies, Global Warming Scam, Government Attacks on the Internet] Post Date: 2010-10-13 17:31:14 by Capitalist Eric

This is a talk given at the Mises Institute, on October 9, 2010, at a conference titled "Economic Recovery: Washingtons Big Lie." When I first offered this title for my talk, it was suggested that I add the question "how do we know when the state is lying?" I dont know if this was an effort to limit my presentation to thirty seconds, for I could summarize my answer in the classic words of my favorite stand-up philosopher, George Carlin: "my first rule: I dont believe anything the government tells me." Kurt Vonnegut offered similar advice. While traveling back to America at the end of World War II, Vonnegut asked a friend what he had learned ...

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- A suburban Detroit man whose Rottweiler was given a new leash on life after surviving a botched euthanasia said he has neither the heart nor the money to try the procedure again. Redford Township resident Matt Olivarez, 27, said he's in a tough spot: facing possible home foreclosure while at the same time trying to do right by Mia, an 11-year-old pooch that he feeds by hand, partly because of her spinal problem that makes walking difficult. Olivarez said he took Mia to the Westcott Veterinary Care Center in Detroit on Saturday to alleviate her suffering. He said Westcott officials speculated afterward that the drug dosage wasn't strong enough or had ...

The 10th anniversary of the bombing of the USS Cole on Tuesday conjured up painful memories for the families of the 17 Navy sailors who died in the terrorist attack, but it also revealed simmering anger at the Obama administration over the lack of concrete progress in bringing an alleged perpetrator to justice. In February 2009, less than three weeks after his inauguration, President Barack Obama held an emotional meeting with family members of victims of the Cole bombing and the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Families said the new president promised swift action yet pleaded for their patience so his aides and Congress could overhaul the military commission system which federal courts ...

Not satisfied to have presided over the single greatest threat to our livelihoods, our homes and our freedoms in the history of the country, many a Congress critter is about to ride the Obama express over the falls. The mood of the country is neither forgiving nor is it likely to allow for much compromise with the left as far as most of us are concerned. The DeMarxists are running for their political lives. The Kenyan White House Residen'ts Biggest Lies Post Date: 2010-10-13 13:38:06 by no gnu taxes

President Obama loves to make up things that are patently untrue, like every economist agrees his $800 billion economic stimulus has done its job, the economy is moving in the right direction, and the Bush tax cuts caused the trillion dollar deficits. The facts say otherwise, but he is never challenged by the news media for his repeatedly dishonest myth-making. Here are some of his worst offenses. Myth 1: President George W. Bushs 2001-2003 across-the-board income tax cuts are responsible for the higher deficits and $13 trillion national debt we have today. Fact: The Congressional Budget Office, using static analysis that does not account for growth ...

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- The U.S. Energy Information Administration said Wednesday that many consumers will see their home heating bills rise modestly this winter because of higher fuel prices and colder Northeast weather. Total home heating prices are expected to rise by 2.5%, or $24, to an average of $986 per household, according to the first forecast released for the 2010-11 winter season by the Department of Energy's statistical and analytical arm. "This forecast reflects moderately higher prices for all the fuels, although slightly milder weather than last winter for much of the Nation should contribute to lower consumption in many areas," except in the Northeast, the EIA ...

The White House may view the last 18 months as historic, racking up a legislative scorecard that includes a $787 billion stimulus package and an overhaul of the health care system. A majority of women, however, see it as a failure, according to a new poll conducted by Kellyanne Conway for The Kitchen Cabinet, a conservative womens group. The findings point to the divide this year between Washington and the electorate, which has yet to give President Barack Obama much credit for his string of legislative victories. Fifty-six percent of women consider the health care reform law a failure, while 29 percent view it as a success, according to the poll. The economic stimulus package is ...

The White House Bunker So Soon? Based on the recent appointments of the two most powerful staff positions in the White House, and on various statements, it would appear that the White House is descending deeper into the bunker in anticipation of the expected shift in congressional majorities next year. The selection of Pete Rouse for chief of staff and Tom Donilon for national security adviser are both in-house promotions. Moving deputies up to principal rank is more typically seen in the seventh and eighth years of a White House administration -- when an administration often has lost its instinct for innovation and creative responses to changing events. Moreover, in each case, a senior ...

PPP: Manchin retakes lead (WV Senate: 48-45) Post Date: 2010-10-13 10:26:16 by go65

Joe Manchin has reclaimed the lead in the West Virginia Senate race by a 48-45 margin. He trailed by 3 points in a PPP poll three weeks ago and his improved standing is a clear example of the biggest potential game changer nationwide for this year's election in the final three weeks- if Democratic voters wake up some of their candidates' fates could shift quite a bit. In 2008 56% of the voters who came out for President in West Virginia were registered Democrats while 29% were registered Republicans. The poll we did in mid-September found that the folks planning to vote in this year's election were considerably more GOP leaning- only 51% Democrats and 37% Republicans. But ...

When PPP last polled the Nevada Senate race in July Harry Reid was ahead by 2 points. Fast forward 3 months and nothing has changed. Reid leads Sharron Angle 47-45 with minor candidates and none of the above combining for 7% and only 1% of voters still undecided. Reid continues to be unpopular with 44% of voters approving of him and 52% disapproving. Feelings toward him are pretty much completely polarized along party lines with 83% of Democrats giving him good marks and 88% of Republicans unhappy with the job he's doing. Independents split against him by a 34/61 margin. Although Reid's approval numbers are bad he's come a long way since PPP's first Nevada poll of the ...

However, for Strickland, its his strongest showing since May. Two ...
