National Debt Up $3 Trillion on Obama's Watch
Post Date: 2010-10-23 15:22:58 by WhiteSands

New numbers posted today on the Treasury Department website show the National Debt has increased by more than $3 trillion since President Obama took office. The National Debt stood at $10.626 trillion the day Mr. Obama was inaugurated. The Bureau of Public Debt reported today that the National Debt had hit an all time high of $13.665 trillion. The Debt increased $4.9 trillion during President Bush's two terms. The Administration has projected the National Debt will soar in Mr. Obama's fourth year in office to nearly $16.5-trillion in 2012. That's more than 100 percent of the value of the nation's economy and $5.9-trillion above what it was his first day on the job. Mr. ...

Same Hill Leaders Could Emerge From Voter Upheaval

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Change at the top? Not necessarily. Whichever party controls the House and Senate after the Nov. 2 election probably will install the same leaders whose policymaking helped bring about the sour economy, nearly double-digit unemployment and deficit spending that has led voters to call for fresh faces. Different lineups could mean different fates for health care, taxation, government spending and regulation, energy and foreign policy, and President Barack Obama's bid for a second term. The newly elected, no matter how a big their freshman class, will have to wait for power. At most, they may get junior leadership seats in each chamber as a symbolic gesture to the ...

President Obama: Republicans Would Put Economic Recovery ‘In Jeopardy’
Post Date: 2010-10-23 14:11:08 by Brian S

President Barack Obama says consumers would lose if Republicans regain power in Congress and try to roll back his hard-won Wall Street overhaul. He says the GOP's promised repeal of the law would mean the return of a financial system whose near-collapse led to the worst recession since the Depression. "Without sound oversight and commonsense protections for consumers, the whole economy is put in jeopardy," Obama said Saturday in his weekly radio and Internet address. "That doesn't serve Main Street. That doesn't serve Wall Street. That doesn't serve anyone." The law passed despite nearly unanimous Republican opposition. It sought to rein in a financial ...

2010 Is Just Deck Chair Politics on the USS Titanic

"Every election is a sort of advance auction sale of stolen goods." ~ H.L. Mencken By Ron Holland The political consensus is following the 2010 election, the Tea Partiers and the GOP establishment will breathe a sigh of relief and celebrate their victory and our two-party monopoly system of government will continue as before. A GOP House majority will checkmate Obama and the Democrats in the Senate and political stalemate will result. Many conservatives and a few Washington pseudo-libertarians will claim stalemate is better than a Democrat landslide but they will be wrong. Like the Titanic, the Washington/Wall Street ship of state hit a Federal Reserve created iceberg under the ...

Eight False Things The Public “Knows” Prior To Election Day
Post Date: 2010-10-22 21:49:33 by go65

There are a number things the public "knows" as we head into the election that are just false. If people elect leaders based on false information, the things those leaders do in office will not be what the public expects or needs. Here are eight of the biggest myths that are out there: 1) President Obama tripled the deficit. Reality: Bush's last budget had a $1.416 trillion deficit. Obama's first reduced that to $1.29 trillion. 2) President Obama raised taxes, which hurt the economy. Reality: Obama cut taxes. 40% of the "stimulus" was wasted on tax cuts which only create debt, which is why it was so much less effective than it could have been. 3) President Obama ...

WASHINGTON, DC: On October 21, 2010, the Center for Security Policy sent urgent alert notices to Juan Williams, news analyst for Fox News and recently fired news analyst for National Public Radio (NPR); Vivian Schiller, President and CEO, NPR; Roger Ailes, President, Fox News Channel; Bill O'Reilly, Fox News Channel; and the Inspector General of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), regarding a possible violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), warning that they may have been the target of an influence operation by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) which resulted in the firing of Williams. On October 18 on the Fox News program "The ...

President Bill Clinton Lost Nuclear Codes While in Office, New Book Claims

When you're President of the United States, you can lose a vote, you can lose popular support, and you can lose a round of golf. But you're never, ever supposed to lose the biscuit. That's what they call the card the president is meant to keep close at hand, bearing the codes that he has to have in order to launch a nuclear attack. And for several months during the Clinton administration, a former top military officer says they lost the biscuit. Watch "World News with Diane Sawyer" for more on this story tonight on ABC. Gen. Hugh Shelton, who served under Clinton as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, tells the story in his just-published memoir, "Without ...

Tea Party Saves GOP from Bush

Two central facts give shape to the historic 2010 election. The first is not understood by Republicans, and the second not admitted by Democrats. The first: the tea party is not a "threat" to the Republican Party, the tea party saved the Republican Party. In a broad sense, the tea party rescued it from being the fat, unhappy, querulous creature it had become, a party that didn't remember anymore why it existed, or what its historical purpose was. The tea party, with its energy and earnestness, restored the GOP to itself. In a practical sense, the tea party saved the Republican Party in this cycle by not going third-party. It could have. The broadly based, locally autonomous ...

SEATTLE -- When Maria Gianni is knocking on voters' doors, she's not bashful about telling people she is in the country illegally. She knows it's a risk to advertise to strangers that she's here illegally -- but one worth taking in what she sees as a crucial election. The 42-year-old is one of dozens of volunteers -- many of them illegal immigrants -- canvassing neighborhoods in the Seattle area trying to get naturalized citizens to cast a ballot for candidates like Democratic Sen. Patty Murray, who is in a neck-to-neck race with Republican Dino Rossi. Pramila Jayapal, head of OneAmerica Votes, says the campaign is about empowering immigrants who may not feel like they can ...

Michigan Woman Faces Civil Rights Complaint for Seeking a Christian Roommate
Post Date: 2010-10-22 15:02:11 by WhiteSands

A civil rights complaint has been filed against a woman in Grand Rapids, Mich., who posted an advertisement at her church last July seeking a Christian roommate. The ad "expresses an illegal preference for a Christian roommate, thus excluding people of other faiths,” according to the complaint filed by the Fair Housing Center of West Michigan. "It's a violation to make, print or publish a discriminatory statement," Executive Director Nancy Haynes told Fox News. "There are no exemptions to that." Haynes said the unnamed 31-year-old woman’s case was turned over to the Michigan Department of Civil Rights. Depending on the outcome of the case, she said, ...

Juan Williams may be gone from National Public Radio's line-up of commentators, but billionaire liberal icon George Soros has donated $1.8 million to hire 100 new reporters for 50 of its member stations. The money will go to launch a project called Impact of Government, which Soros' Open Society Foundation says will "bring greater transparency and accountability to the workings of state capitals across the country." The group, which describes its mission as building "tolerant democracies whose governments are accountable to their citizens," calls it a response to the decline in news coverage of state legislatures. "A strong democracy requires a diverse, ...

Aw. Obama Says He Didn't Market His Vastly Unpopular Legislation Enough

Poor baby. If only he had been able to spend more time talking about how great his mostly outsourced legislation, people would love it. Sniffle President Barack Obama told a friendly backyard gathering on Thursday that he was so focused on getting the policy right on helping the economy recover that he didn't devote enough energy to advertising the benefits. Asked about the negative perception many Americans have about signature legislation of his first two years in office, Obama said opponents of reform fought hard against it and he could have done more to sell it. Right. Because we weren't treated to daily discourse from Obama, Democrats, and their minions, including the ...

FBI Investigates Toxic Powder Sent To Arizona Congressman

(CNN) -- The FBI is investigating a toxic substance found inside a package that was sent to the office of Arizona Rep. Raul Grijalva, a spokesman for the congressman said. Staffers checking mail in the congressman's Tucson, Arizona, office Thursday found a white powdery substance and drawings of two swastikas inside an envelope, Grijalva campaign spokesman Adam Sarvana told CNN. The Tucson Fire Department confirmed the substance inside the envelope was toxic, he said. Almost a dozen people were inside the office at the time, he said. All of them were checked on-scene by local authorities and sent home. Scientists at an FBI laboratory in Phoenix, Arizona, are now conducting a full ...

AP-GfK Poll: Americans split on health care repeal

WASHINGTON (AP) — First it was President Barack Obama's health care overhaul that divided the nation. Now it's the Republican cry for repeal. An Associated Press-GfK poll found likely voters evenly split on whether the law should be scrapped or retooled to make even bigger changes in the way Americans get their health care. Tea party enthusiasm for repeal has failed to catch on with other groups, the poll found, which may be a problem for Republicans vowing to strike down Obama's signature accomplishment if they gain control of Congress in the Nov. 2 elections. Among likely voters, 36 percent said they want to revise the law so it does more to change the health care ...

New Polls Confirm Sestak's Rebound, Leads For Boxer And Brown

Two new statewide polls released overnight confirm Democrat Joe Sestak's rebound in the Pennsylvania Senate race, while a batch of new California surveys shows Democrats Barbara Boxer and Jerry Brown maintaining narrow leads. Meanwhile, new polls show nominal advantages for the Republicans in the deadlocked Senate races in Illinois and West Virginia. In Pennsylvania, a new Quinnipiac University survey released this morning confirms that Democrat Joe Sestak has closed the gap with Republican Pat Toomey, showing Toomey up by a slim two-point margin (48% to 46%) that falls well within the poll's margin of error. Quinnipiac's last Pennsylvania survey showed Toomey leading by seven ...

Boeing Sales Beat `New Normal' Pessimism as Fed May Act

Rising sales at companies from Boeing Co. to chipmaker Intel Corp. and railroad CSX Corp. show U.S. businesses are growing even before a boost investors predict from the next round of Federal Reserve monetary easing. About 85 percent of companies in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index have exceeded analysts’ per-share profit estimates so far in third-quarter reports. The S&P 500 gained 11 percent since Aug. 27, when Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke said the central bank “will do all that it can” to keep the economy’s rebound alive. General Electric Co., Delta Air Lines Inc. and retailers including Kohl’s Corp. are planning to add workers. The earnings and ...

The Big Wall Street Banks Have Found A New Way To Strangle The American People: Predatory Property Tax Collection
Post Date: 2010-10-21 17:27:30 by Capitalist Eric

It turns out that the big Wall Street banks have found a dirty new way to make loads of cash from U.S. homeowners, and they really, really don't want to talk about it. So what is this dirty new business? America's biggest financial institutions have become property tax collectors, and it is extremely lucrative. From coast to coast, the big Wall Street banks are buying up thousands upon thousands of tax liens and are making a killing by socking distressed homeowners with predatory interest, outrageous penalties and almost unbelievable legal fees. In some areas, the big banks are able to foreclose on these homes in as little as six months. The elderly and the poor are the most common ...

GOP House Candidate Keith Rothfus Threatens To Defund Supreme Court
Post Date: 2010-10-21 17:09:13 by go65

Yesterday, Keith Rothfus, the Republican nominee in Pennsylvania’s 4th congressional district, attended a house party in Cranberry Township and discussed his political views for about an hour. At first, he echoed the views of most GOP candidates: if Republicans don’t succeed in repealing the new health care law, they would take the unprecedented step to defund the reforms. Rothfus was categorical in his opposition to supporting any aspect of the law, pledging that he “will not fund one Obamacare office.” However, Rothfus took his defund-mantra a step further. When asked by a constituent whether or not Congress can override the Supreme Court, Rothfus argued that Congress ...

In an experiment, there are one of more hypotheses. When positive predictions are made, there necessarily exists what is called a null hypothesis. The null hypothesis should be stated formally, and constructed before the study is conducted. H0: Two simultaneous mutations are the upper limit for providing any functional advantage by evolutionary processes. H1: Evolutionary processes may result in three or more simultaneous mutations conferring a functional advantage to an organism. In the example above, H0 is the null hypothesis, and H1 is the experimental hypothesis. When an experiment is conducted, a finding of 3 or more simultaneous mutations resulting in a functional advantage would be ...

Vets Stand Guard Over Christian Flag In NC Town

KING, N.C. (AP) -- The Christian flag is everywhere in the small city of King: flying in front of barbecue joints and hair salons, stuck to the bumpers of trucks, hanging in windows and emblazoned on T-shirts. The relatively obscure emblem has become omnipresent because of one place it can't appear: flying above a war memorial in a public park. The city council decided last month to remove the flag from above the monument in Central Park after a resident complained, and after city leaders got letters from the American Civil Liberties Union and Americans United for the Separation of Church and State urging them to remove it. That decision incensed veterans groups, churches and others ...

Netflix Inc., the movie-rental service, surged 12 percent after increasing subscriber projections. State GOP chairman Dick Wadhams is definitely singing a different tune these days when it comes to whether Republican Dan Maes will receive less than 10 percent of the vote in the governor’s race. Wadhams, at Club 20 in Grand Junction Sept. 11: “I think it’s a terribly remote possibility that we would become a minor party.” Wadhams to the AP’s Steve Paulson this week: “It probably will happen. Voters are asking, ‘Why would I waste my vote on Maes? ‘” Wadhams said the dynamics have changed since then. He added he’s been besieged by e-mails from Republicans who admitted voting for Maes in the primary, but now are supporting former ...
