The Public Has Seen the Abominable Kenyan and is Beginning to Realize Bush Was a Great President

Earlier this week, I was in Dallas to participate in events surrounding the groundbreaking of the George W. Bush Presidential Center, which will include his library and policy institute. I found the people there to be, almost to a person, in very good spirits, the mood upbeat, relaxed, and celebratory. Part of the reason for this has to do with being reunited with colleagues with whom you stood shoulder-to-shoulder during dramatic and even historic times. Sharing moments of great achievement and hardship can forge deep and lasting bonds of affection. But there was something else at play — the sense that for America’s 43rd president, certain qualities and achievements are coming ...

Olbermann Loses Almost 500,000 Viewers Since Triumphant Return By Noel Sheppard | November 17, 2010 | 09:08 Keith Olbermann's ratings have plummeted since his post-suspension return to MSNBC. As NewsBusters previously reported, MSNBC's "Countdown" saw a 35 percent rise in viewers last Tuesday when the host came back after his brief suspension over his campaign contributions. By Monday, he had given up all of this bounce and then some: •Tuesday November 9's total viewers were 1,499,000 •Monday November 15's total viewers were 1,039,000 •Thursday November 4's total viewers were 1,114,000 Nice little 460,000 drop in just four days. With so ...

Efforts to Extend Bush-Era Tax Cuts Falter as Talks Are Delayed

Nov. 17 (Bloomberg) -- A deal to extend soon-to-expire Bush-era tax cuts won’t be completed until December, and some Democrats in Congress said an accord may not be reached this year. President Barack Obama and congressional leaders postponed until Nov. 30 a White House meeting, previously scheduled for tomorrow, to negotiate whether to extend lower tax rates for all taxpayers or just those with incomes of $250,000 or less. Separately, Democrats, who control the Senate, said they haven’t agreed on a plan. “I don’t even know what the options are at this moment,” Senator Maria Cantwell, a Democrat from Washington state who serves on the tax-writing Finance ...

Since the TSA molested my family, why doesn’t Obama volunteer to subject his family to the same security procedures?

Two weeks ago, my wife flew alone out to Colorado with our two young children. Unaware that the TSA had instituted new and incredibly invasive new security procedures, my wife called me distressed after getting frisked by the TSA. Or as my wife put it, “in some cultures I would be married to my screener by now.” She was joking, but make no mistake — my wife was incredibly disturbed by how intimate a security pat down she received. So here’s my not-so-modest proposal: If the President’s Homeland Security department is so adamant that this is the absolute best way to prevent terrorism, I think the President and his family should voluntarily submit to one of the new ...

Libtards in Denial: Urge Obama to “Crush Republicans to Teach Them a Lesson”…

Bring it, bitches… (The Hill)- Liberals furious with a White House they view as constantly telegraphing compromise with Republicans are pressuring President Obama to get tougher, arguing that is the only way he will win both progressives and independents in 2012. Adam Green, co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) and an outspoken critic of the White House, said liberal anger has less to do with fears of a Clintonian move to the middle by Obama and more with a misreading of the election results by the administration. “It’s less ‘Oh no, they’re triangulating,’ and more ‘Boy, their political instincts are really stupid,’ ” ...

Target, The Dog Who Survived Afghan War And Melted Hearts On Oprah, Mistakenly Put Down At Arizona Animal Shelter

As a stray on the war-ravaged streets of Afghanistan, she had been shot by the Taliban and blasted by explosives. In fact, the plucky German Shepherd cheated death so often that U.S. soldiers named her Target. She had even become a life-saving hero by sniffing out a suicide bomber on a military base. But, sadly, these dangers paled against the threat from a clerical error at a U.S. dog pound. An employee at the Pinal County facility was today on administrative leave after euthanizing the shepherd mix by mistake.'When it comes to euthanizing an animal, there are some clear-cut procedures to follow,' said Ruth Stalter, director of the Animal Care And Control centre.'Based on my ...

Wow. Tea Party Candidate With no RNC Support Wins GOP Congressional Seat in Illinois

Republican Joe Walsh, pictured on the right while speaking at a Morton Grove Tea Party, still leads incumbent Democrat Melissa Bean in Illinois' 8th Congressional District. All of the votes have been counted, and the Daily Herald reports that Walsh leads Bean by 291 votes--out of nearly 200,000 cast. Bean, who calls her self a fiscal conservative, voted for the stimulus bill, cap and trade, and ObamaCare. I suppose it's possible Bean will call for a recount, but let's call this a sweet win for the Illinois GOP: four House pick ups. Walsh received no Republican National Committee financial help in his effort. Bean should do the honorable thing and concede now. She was ...

Thirteen demonstrators organized by the GetEQUAL campaign for gay rights -- including nine veterans, a Catholic priest and other advocates -- were arrested after shouting they were "proud to serve" and vowing: "We will not disappear." "Today, we have sent a loud and clear message to the US Senate and President Obama that we expect them to make good on their promises to end this inhumane law this year, during ...

Former Bush Hater Now Supports Bush After Reading the Truth in "Decision Points"

Changed my opinion of the man I have never been a fan of Bush. In fact I really thought he was the worst president in history. I could not put this book down. He had an extraordinarily hard job, and when he tells of his mindset when making the decisions he made I have to admire him. I truly think that he did what he thought was the rite thing to do on each and every one of his decisions. I can honestly say that I now think that he did a good job.

Dejected Democrats wiped away tears on the House floor Monday night while Republicans congratulated themselves on winning back control of the lower chamber. House members returned to the nation's capital for the first time since Republicans captured the House two weeks ago. Freshman Rep. Debbie Halvorson (D-Ill.), who lost her reelection bid, wiped away tears as she hugged fellow members of the class of 2008, many of whom lost on Nov. 2. Less than three feet away, ousted Nevada freshman Rep. Dina Titus (D) appeared to brush away some tears in a less obvious manner. The mood was much different on the other side of the aisle. Joyful House GOP lawmakers, who will take control of the ...

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) -- Sen. Lisa Murkowski is holding a lead in Alaska's still-undecided Senate race as election workers prepare to count more write-in ballots. About 8,800 ballots were to be tallied Tuesday. On Monday, election officials said Murkowski had emerged from several days of counting with a 1,706-vote lead over GOP nominee Joe Miller. Murkowski waged a write-in campaign after losing the Republican nomination to Miller in August. She has 92,164 votes, but that total includes 7,601 write-in votes that have been challenged by the Miller campaign. Miller has 90,458 votes. Besides the ballots being counted, as many as 600 more ballots from overseas and military addresses ...

U.S. travel during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend will rise 11 percent from last year on improved economic conditions, AAA said today. About 42.2 million people will journey 50 miles or more from home this year, up from 37.9 million last year, AAA, the nation’s biggest motoring organization, said in a statement. “While Americans remain cautious with household budgets and discretionary spending amidst high levels of unemployment, many are in a better financial position this Thanksgiving than a year ago,” AAA President and CEO Robert Darbelnet, said in a statement. Automobile transportation will account for 39.7 million of the holiday travelers, a 12 percent increase from ...

Ethics Panel Finds Rangel Guilty on 11 Violations of House Rules

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Charles Rangel, once one of the most influential House members, was convicted Tuesday on 11 counts of breaking ethics rules and now faces punishment. An ethics panel of eight House peers deliberated over two days before delivering a jarring blow to the 20-term New York Democrat's career. The 80-year-old Rangel was charged with 13 counts of financial and fundraising misconduct. Only last spring, Rangel held the exalted post of Ways and Means chairman, a position that made him the House's main writer of tax legislation. The Harlem congressman was not present when the verdict was announced. The full ethics committee will now conduct a hearing on the appropriate ...

A House ethics panel has found Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel of New York guilty on 11 counts of breaking House rules. The full ethics committee will next conduct a hearing on the appropriate punishment for the former chairman of the Ways and Means Committee. The committee will then make a recommendation to the House. Possible punishments include a House vote deploring Rangel's conduct, a fine and denial of privileges. The eight-member ethics panel had sat as a jury to judge Rangel's conduct. The 80-year-old congressman from Harlem was charged with 13 counts of financial and fundraising wrongdoing.

George Soros -- hedge fund billionaire, major funder of so-called 527 groups, early supporter of Barack Obama, and sugar daddy of the Democratic Party -- is one of America's most powerful political players. He had a bad November 2 when Republicans took control of the House. But he is not down for the count. He has already begun focusing on states as his next political playground -- where he wants to be the biggest bully on the block.George Soros has seen his game plan work quite well for years in Washington. He has created a phalanx of powerful think-tanks (The Center for American Progress -- Obama's Idea Factory, being just the best-known, but there are many more), he has ...

THIS IS A NATIONAL BOYCOTT CALL. Specifically: * We will not consent to be sexually assaulted as a condition of getting on an airplane. A virtual strip-search is no different than a physical strip-search, and a "grope" is a sexual assault. Period. Such a "Custody Search" is only permissible under US law when one has been arrested with probable cause to believe one has committed a crime and is being taken into custody. We refuse to accept being treated as literal Federal Prisoners as a condition of boarding an aircraft. * We assert that virtual strip-search machines do not in fact, and cannot in fact, detect things such as an explosive device inserted into the anus, ...

Three In Four Americans Support Extension Of Federal Unemployment Benefits

A majority of Americans believe Congress should extend federal unemployment insurance benefits, a new poll by Hart Research Associates finds, and they reject the idea that deficit concerns should lead to cuts in support for the jobless when the unemployment rate remains so high. The post-election survey, in which nearly three in four Americans say it is too early to cut jobless benefits, comes just days before the Nov. 30 expiration of the federal unemployment benefits program. "There is deep public support for continuing the federal unemployment programs at a time when unemployment is at 9.6 percent and millions are still out of work,” said Christine Owens, Executive Director ...

Internet Traffic from U.S. Government Websites Was Reportedly Routed Via Chinese Servers

Nearly 15 percent of the world's Internet traffic -- including data from the Pentagon, the office of Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and other U.S. government websites -- was briefly redirected through computer servers in China last April, according to a congressional commission report obtained by the Washington Times. It was immediately unclear whether the incident was deliberate, but the April 18 redirection could have enabled malicious activities and potentially caused an unintended "diversion of data" from many U.S. government, military and commercial websites, the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission states in a report to Congress. A draft copy of the ...

Amid airport anger, GOP takes aim at screening

Did you know that the nation's airports are not required to have Transportation Security Administration screeners checking passengers at security checkpoints? The 2001 law creating the TSA gave airports the right to opt out of the TSA program in favor of private screeners after a two-year period. Now, with the TSA engulfed in controversy and hated by millions of weary and sometimes humiliated travelers, Rep. John Mica, the Republican who will soon be chairman of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, is reminding airports that they have a choice. Mica, one of the authors of the original TSA bill, has recently written to the heads of more than 150 airports nationwide ...

The big disconnect: D.C. elites think Obama will be reelected, but the public doubts it

According to the new POLITICO Power and the People poll, only 26 percent of the public believes he will be reelected as president in 2012.This difference in expectations could mislead the president if he is listening to the Beltway chatter — right here in D.C. he may just find a lot of comfort in this assessment by insiders , and that may lead to actions that don’t fully adjust for the sea change that has occurred among the general public. (See also: Poll: D.C. sees midterms differently) This big difference can partially be explained by the different ways that the two ...

Obama Caves on Civilian Trial for KSM -- It turns out indefinite detention isn’t so bad after all

It turns out indefinite detention isn’t so bad after all. Let’s review the state of play, shall we? Throughout the 2008 presidential campaign, candidate Barack Obama blasted the Bush administration’s decision to treat al-Qaeda terrorists as enemy combatants and detain them without trial at Guantanamo Bay. Now, two years into his presidency, Obama has decided to treat al-Qaeda terrorists as enemy combatants and detain them without trial at Guantanamo Bay. The media is reporting that the administration will hold Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and the other 9/11 plotter indefinitely, granting them neither a civilian nor a military trial. This determination, leaked over the weekend, ...
