And Then There Were Two: 2010 Midterms Almost Over
Post Date: 2010-11-23 20:43:41 by go65
12 Comments
The 2010 midterms are almost, almost over. With five House races and one Senate race yet to be decided this morning, two concessions and an executive decision by the Associated Press have narrowed things down. Democratic Rep. Jim Costa has held onto his seat in Fresno, California, the Associated Press declared Tuesday evening, fending off a challenge from Republican Andy Vidak. Costa led by over 3,000 votes after Election Day. That leaves Republicans' total 2010 House gains at 63, with only two House races still undecided. Democrats are poised to hold onto their seats in those races. After trailing by 383 votes, Democratic Rep. Tim Bishop now leads Republican Randy Altschuler by ...

TEA Party Whiner Joe Miller Sues Over Election Results

Juneau, AK (Nov 22) – Unhappy with the fact that mainstream Americans living in Alaska opted for a write-in candidate Lisa Murkowski, over the right-wing supported candidate Joe Miller has filed a suit challenging the results of the mid-term 2010 Senate race in Alaska. Joe Miller backed by former Alaskan Governor and quitter, Sarah Palin along with his TEA Party followers are crying foul as their enlarged egos took another huge hit in the 2010 mid-term elections with common mainstream Alaskan turning out in droves to ensure that this group of right-wing whackos was kept from representing the states constituents in the Congress. It is obvious that with the amount of violence, hatred, ...

Ratings for Sarah Palin’s Alaska Stay Strong: 3 Million Viewers

Sunday’s episode of Sarah Palin’s Alaska attracted 3 million viewers – that’s more viewer’s more than the 2.4 million viewers who tuned in for the best performing season finale of AMC’s hit series, Mad Men. Since another recent highly anticipated series, Conan had a 41% drop from week 1 to week 2 , this week’s ratings dip from last week’s record-setting ratings of 4.96 million viewers. It’s of course difficult to determine everything that affects ratings, but some are speculating that Sunday Night Football and the American Music Awards may have had an impact on the numbers. Find more information about these ratings with this pessimistic slant or ...

House Dem Dares GOP On Healthcare Repeal
Post Date: 2010-11-23 15:38:51 by Brian S

Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-N.Y.) is daring Republicans to make good on one of their top legislative priorities: repealing the healthcare law. Using a somewhat unusual tactic, Ackerman, a strong advocate for the healthcare reform law, vowed Tuesday to introduce a series of bills next week that would roll back some of the most popular provisions of the law. The congressman said the legislation — all titled the HIPA-CRIT (Health Insurance Protects America—Can't Repeal IT) — will give Republicans a chance to "put up, or sit down" on their campaign promise to repeal the eight-month-old law. "This will be the big chance for Republicans to do what they've vowed ...

We should follow Israel’s example in airline security. Back in January, the Obama administration announced a new policy for airline safety: country-based profiling. Travelers from 14 countries known to harbor terrorists would automatically receive extra scrutiny, including additional pat-downs or full-body scans. The named states were: Afghanistan, Algeria, Cuba, Lebanon, Libya, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. My reaction at the time was: You mean you weren’t already doing that? Apparently not. When underwear bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab traveled from Nigeria to Detroit without baggage (it was reported at the time that he had ...

A TSA employee based at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport tried to kill himself after allegedly abducting a young woman, sexually assaulting her then giving her a suicide note to deliver. The LaGrange Daily News reports that Randall Scott King, whose age was not released, grabbed the woman Wednesday night from a MARTA parking lot then took her to his house in Hogansville, about 50 miles south of Atlanta. After the alleged sexual assault, King released the woman along with his note. The alleged victim and assailant were not strangers. "They left the airport together voluntarily," Hartsfield-Jackson spokeswoman Katena Carvajales told the AJC. According to ...

Automaker ready for renovations, new machinery, 900 more workers The unanimous approval by the Sterling Heights City Council of a tax abatement for Chrysler Corp. at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant has given a breath of fresh air to the once-troubled automobile manufacturer. Chrysler will invest $850 million in the plant on Van Dyke and Metropolitan Parkway for renovations, machinery, special tooling and new equipment. It will bring in 900 new jobs on top of the 3,000 existing jobs at both SHAP and the Sterling Heights Stamping Plant on Van Dyke Avenue and 15 Mile Road. The stamping plant provides 25 percent of the assembly panels used at SHAP. The council last week also unanimously ...

Feds Bust Alleged Sharia Ponzi Scheme In Chicago

Three men have been indicted for allegedly running a Ponzi scheme and stealing $43 million from investors who thought they were putting their money in a Sharia-compliant investment strategy. According to federal officials, the men ran a firm called Sunrise Equities and told Pakistani-American investors and banks in Chicago that their money would go exclusively into real estate development. Earning interest is prohibited under Sharia, or Islamic law, and observant Muslims cannot invest in financial products that earn interest. Instead, the money allegedly went to finance the men's other businesses, including a motorcycle parts company in Pakistan and a gas station outside Chicago. They ...

Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas have received death threats and "Dancing with the Stars" has measurably heightened security ... sources connected with the show tell TMZ. We're told the threats began to come in last week, after Bristol and Mark made the finals. Execs on the show told Mark to stop tweeting because it was inciting people. Mark complied. Sources connected with the show tell us extra security will be on hand tonight for the show. And, if Bristol and Mark head to New York, execs are talking about breaking format and not doing their interview outside in Times Square -- but rather in the studio, where it's more secure. A meme is developing around President Obama that could threaten his political future. That meme, fueled by critics on the right and the left, suggests that Obama is a weakling, a spineless empty suit who is too willing to compromise, a wimp with no principles he would rather fight than defend. It was that narrative that James Carville played into last week when he declared, “”If Hillary [Clinton] gave up one of her balls and gave it to Obama, he’d have two.” Bill Clinton, who knows the heart and soul of the American electorate, once famously declared, “When people are insecure, they’d rather have somebody who is strong and wrong than someone who’s weak ...

A treatment that's being billed as a big breakthrough in AIDS is prompting a very uncomfortable question: How much are we willing to pay to prevent people from becoming infected with HIV? Scientists at San Francisco's Gladstone Institutes announced that gay men and some transgendered women who took a daily pill called Truvada were 73 percent less likely to become infected with the virus. The study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine today. "This is a very exciting, dynamic time in HIV prevention research," Alan Bernstein, head of the Global HIV Vaccine Enterprise, a non-profit, tells USA Today. "It couldn't come at a better time. Worldview on Obama: He’s a failure

Barack Obama’s plummeting job performance ratings at home are nothing compared to the worldview of the American President — especially in the troubled Mideast where candidate Obama promised a different approach. Both sides of the Mideast debate agree on one thing: Obama the President is a failure and both the Israelis and Palestinians blame him for the current state of affairs in that troubled region. “Instead of becoming a heady triumph of his diplomatic skill and special insight, Obama’s peace process is viewed almost universally in Israel as a mistake-riddled fantasy,” writes Ben Smith on Politico. “Even those who still believe in the process that Obama ...

President Obama has passed the Big 4-0 -- going the wrong way. Turns out voters were not simply satisfied to spank the Democrat and his party in the Nov. 2 midterm elections with historic losses in the House of Representatives. Obama's job approval rating as calculated by the Zogby Poll has now sunk to 39%, a new low for his 22-month presidency that began with so much hope and excitement and poll numbers up around 70. As recently as Sept. 20, his job approval was 49%. A whopping 60% now disapprove of his job, up from 51% disapproval Sept. 20. Obama now trails in hypothetical 2012 matchups against Republicans Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and the next Bush, Jeb. And, oh, my! Lookee ...

Regional airports and some local officials are joining the swelling protest against more intrusive "pat-down" screening measures at airport security checkpoints, eyeing new laws against so-called "naked X-ray" machines and perhaps even opting out of the Transportation Security Administration screening altogether. "Our Constitution encourages local governments to stand up when the federal government goes too far," New York City Council member David G. Greenfield, who is exploring a move to ban the X-ray machines from the city, told The Washington Times, "These naked X-ray machines … constitute an unreasonable search," which violates the Fourth ...

Bush-era officials salute TSA moves

Former Transportation Security Administration officials who worked under President George W. Bush say the new body scanners and pat-downs that have prompted privacy concerns at airports are necessary to keep the flying public safe. Airplane passengers have complained that they feel uncomfortable having their body parts being analyzed through a scanner, and that aggressive screenings by TSA workers are too physical. The Obama administration has argued that the methods are the least invasive way to ensure explosive materials aren’t being snuck in the way a terrorist did last Christmas in a failed attempt to blow up a plane. “If lawmaker X says, ‘Hey, this is too invasive, the ...

WASHINGTON — Just about as many Americans want Tea Party-backed members of Congress to take the lead in setting policy during the next year as choose President Obama, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds. In a survey taken Friday through Sunday, 28% say Obama should have the most influence on government policy next year while 27% say the Tea Party standard-bearers should. GOP congressional leaders are chosen by 23%, Democratic congressional leaders by 16%. The results reflect the strength of the Tea Party movement as the GOP prepares to take control of the House of Representatives in January. The survey also underscores Obama's weakened standing. His overall job approval rating, at ...

Glenn Beck is under fire from the left again. Now they are insisting that he is an anti-semite. What prompted this latest accusation? A verbal attack on Israel, perhaps? Maybe he forgot to get a coffee for Rabbi Lapin after his Fox News program last week? Uh… no. The liberals’ latest desperate attempt at discrediting a conservative celebrity is one of the most ludicrous to date. Glenn’s frequent reports on the history and activities of George Soros has the socialists scraping the smear barrel. While it is true that Soros was born into a Jewish family, by his own admission he is a committed atheist. Furthermore, he has said he has no time for Israel or religion (unless he ...

Time to allow states to go bankrupt

Currently, states are not allowed by federal law to go bankrupt, a situation David Skeel seeks to change, in an important article in the Weekly Standard. He argues that this is far preferable to the inevitable federal bailouts for spendthrift states like California, New York, and Illinois, which have been so generous to their employees in pay, benefits, and pensions that they are unable to raise enough revenue to meet their obligations. The idea that taxpayers in more sensible states like Indiana and Texas should have to bail out wealthy Democratic strongholds unable to operate responsibly is explosive. Mark Steyn has even warned that secession talk could get serious in the face of such ...

Delta 4 Rocket Blasts Off With U.S. Spy Agency's "Largest Satellite in the World" - Believed to be 328 Feet Wide. A powerful Delta 4 rocket roared to life and climbed away from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station Sunday evening on a high-priority mission to boost a National Reconnaissance Office spy satellite into orbit. Under a cloudy sky, the hydrogen-fueled engines in the three common core boosters of the United Launch Alliance Delta 4 ignited with a rush of orange fire at 5:58 p.m. EST and quickly throttled up to nearly 2 million pounds of thrust. Hold-down clamps then released and the huge rocket majestically climbed away from launch complex 37 atop a torrent of fiery ...

Secretary of Transportation LaHood: We’re Looking Into Technology To Disable Cell Phones In Vehicles

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said using a cell phone while driving is so dangerous that devices may soon be installed in cars to forcibly stop drivers — and potentially anyone else in the vehicle — from using them. “There’s a lot of technology out there now that can disable phones and we’re looking at that,” said LaHood on MSNBC. LaHood said the cellphone scramblers were one way, and also stressed the importance of “personal responsibility.” The hosts of Morning Joe pushed the secretary about the possibility of requiring scrambling technology installed in vehicles. “I think it will be done,” said LaHood. “I think the ...

This was good to see. - Huge cheer when George said he doesn’t think a former president should comment on his successor, which, in itself is a comment. It’s a huge STFU to Carter and Clinton. - Getting genuine laughs with his great sense of humor. They showed the clip of him trying to leave through the locked door in China. He said, “that’s the very definition of a man without an exit strategy.” - Very sincere self-deprecating humor. He said he wanted to sing lullabies to his twin daughters. The problem was he didn’t know any. So he sang the Yale fight song. Go Bulldog Go. He said people were shocked that he sang…. and went to Yale. - Bush tells a ...

Just when you think Obama can't be more disappointing, he lets you down again. Yes, he can. The midterm elections have come and gone as blip-quick as the adult mayfly -- which gets to live, fly, mate and die in 24 hours (there's some consolation: the males fly around with two penises, the females with two vaginas). Obama campaigned and campaigned but the pitiful Democrats got thumped and shellacked and shat upon from a dizzy height like a gaggle of virgins sodomized in a fancy castle by the Marquis de Sade's massively endowed manservant Latour. They gave up 64 seats in the House: a GOP takeover. Had it not been for the good fortune of some idiot candidates nominated by the ...

Are GOP Leaders Quietly Trying to Axe Office of Congressional Ethics?

The ethics of House members are frequently used as a punchline. Or a headline. This week, it was Rep. Charlie Rangel, D-NY, on trial. In coming weeks, it will be Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif. Their alleged wrongdoings were among many investigated and uncovered by the Office of Congressional Ethics. But the future of that office is in question. Despite publicly promising more transparency and disclosure of the inner workings of Congress, behind closed doors, the GOP leadership has made moves indicating the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) may be targeted for cuts or extinction. According to an email seen by ABC News, Rep. David Dreier, R-Calif., called the OCE on Friday, Nov. 5, just ...

The next big GOP intra-party war: Ethanol subsidies?

Is there a new intra-GOP war brewing -- a sequel to the Tea Party's big victory in the battle over earmarks? Fresh off a big victory over the GOP establishment on earmarks, conservative GOP senators are opening up a new front in the battle on government spending that could be similar to the earmarks standoff: They are calling on Congress to let billions in ethanol subsidies expire. Senators Jim DeMint and Tom Coburn, two leading conservative Senators who have pushed the GOP to be serious about its anti-spending rhetoric, told me they are calling on fellow Republicans to urge Congress to allow ethanol subsidies to expire -- something that could put other leading GOP Senators in an ...
