Tax Deal Is Shaping 2012 GOP Campaign (Palin/Romney vs. Huck/Newt/Pawlenty) Post Date: 2010-12-14 22:08:34 by go65

WASHINGTONThe tax deal now before Congress has kicked off the first real debate of the 2012 Republican presidential campaign, with several prospective candidates heralding the package as a victory for taxpayers and others criticizing it as a costly stimulus bill in disguise. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney have both come out sharply against the measure, which President Barack Obama hammered out last week with Senate Republican leaders. Both cite the deal's price tag, with Mr. Romney saying it will heap billions more onto the nation's debt load. Supporting the package are former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty ...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Air Force has blocked access for computers on its network to The New York Times, the Guardian, and at least 23 other websites carrying WikiLeaks documents, a spokesman said on Tuesday. Major Toni Tones, a spokesperson at Air Force Space Command in Colorado, said the command blocked at least 25 websites that have posted WikiLeaks documents. The Air Force "routinely blocks Air Force network access to websites hosting inappropriate materials or malware (malicious software) and this includes any website that hosts classified materials and those that are released by WikiLeaks," she said.

Paul Volcker is worried about the future of the dollar and for good reason. The Fed has initiated a program (Quantitative Easing) that presages an end to Bretton Woods 2 and replaces it with different system altogether. Naturally, that's made trading partners pretty nervous. Despite the unfairness of the present system--where export-dependent countries recycle capital to US markets to sustain demand---most nations would rather stick with the "devil they know", then venture into the unknown. But US allies weren't consulted on the matter. The Fed unilaterally decided that the only way to fight deflation and high unemployment in the US, was by weakening the dollar and making ...

History tells a cyclical story of man versus state: man persistently creating new ideas and the state tirelessly laboring to destroy them. Bureaucracy has never been a friend to the ideas that undermine its artificial legitimacy. All too often, history provides us with examples of state-enforced book burnings and other forms of extreme censorship. Many of us today take our so-called freedom of speech for granted, and few realize just how pervasive government censorship remains. It is true that not many of us living today in the industrially advanced world have experienced the worst kinds of censorship[1] few have memories, for example, of the Nazi book burnings that took place ...
Revolt: Republicans Angry About Omnibus Spending Bill Decry 'Total Mess' Post Date: 2010-12-14 15:47:38 by Brian S

Republicans poring over a 1,924-page overarching spending bill proposed by Democrats to cover the rest of the fiscal year are threatening to grind the legislation to a halt, citing hidden earmarks and massive spending that would be enacted into law without a review process. Two sources who spoke to Fox News are describing the legislation as "a total mess." Devolving into pandemonium, a source said "all hell is breaking loose" ahead of a Republican policy lunch in which Sens. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma and Jim DeMint of South Carolina were expected to insist the omnibus bill be read in its entirety by the clerk on the Senate floor before a vote is held. They also were ...

Democratic leader Steny Hoyer: "This discriminatory & harmfulpolicy has weakened America's security by depriving us of the work of tens of thousands of gay & lesbian troops who have served their country honorably. And it has severely compromised our Armed Forces' core value of integrity." Democrats Push Last-Ditch Repeal of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' WASHINGTON In a new showdown on a volatile issue, the House will take up a bill this week that would overturn the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy on gays, Democratic leader Steny Hoyer revealed Tuesday. The move would put pressure on the Senate to delay its holiday ...

Here are some pictures of global warming on Floridas Nature Coast. I woke up to these images this morning. Images which we normally dont see until mid-January (if we do at all.) Images like how many of my plants are now dead like the one shown
. and especially those leaves buried in ice. Not a veneer of ice, either. It got down to 28 last night. Tonight? Around 18-24. Who can blame me for wanting to shove an icicle through the hearts of those global warming morons?
Ron Paul: 50-50 Chance I'll Run for President Post Date: 2010-12-14 13:05:56 by Brian S

Republican Rep. Ron Paul, known for bucking his party in favor of his libertarian principles, says there's a chance he'll make another run for the presidency. "I'd say it's at least 50-50 that I'll run again," Paul told the New York Times in a profile of the 75-year-old congressman. His decision will reportedly hinge in part on how the economy fares. Paul won less than 2 percent of the vote in his 2008 Republican primary presidential bid, but he won a dedicated fan base that supported him strongly online and financially. He is often credited for spawning the Tea Party movement, which swept into office this year more congressmen that hold his stringent ...
AIPAC is a nest of Jewish spies Post Date: 2010-12-14 12:23:15 by continental op

And Jews in America lavish money on suspected traitors. This story came out a couple weeks ago. I intentionally held back on it, waiting to see how many conservatives who are always ranting about national security would write about it. Well, it looks like its going to be a while before any of them mention it, so I might as well bring it up. Heres the short story. Back in 2004, two high level employee of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), Steve Rosen and Keith Weissman, were charged with spying against America; trafficking in national security secrets to benefit Israel. It took AIPAC a while, but in 2005, they fired Rosen and Weissman, ...
Military Court To Hear Case Of 'Birther' Army Doctor Who Wouldn't Deploy Post Date: 2010-12-14 12:18:21 by Brian S

A military court was set to hear the case Tuesday of an Army doctor charged with refusing to deploy to Afghanistan because he says he doubts whether President Barack Obama was born in the U.S. and therefore questions his eligibility to be commander in chief. Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin, an 18-year-Army veteran, disobeyed orders to report earlier this year to Fort Campbell in Kentucky to prepare for deployment, saying he believed the orders were illegal. In videos posted on YouTube, Lakin aligned himself with so-called "birthers" who question whether Obama is a natural-born citizen as the U.S. Constitution requires for presidents. Lakin says in the videos that any reasonable person ...

On his deathbed in Washington, Richard Holbrooke allegedly told his Pakistani surgeon, You ve got to stop this war in Afghanistan. Perhaps the story is true. After all, Holbrooke, though one of the greatest liars in public life, must have told the truth occasionally and his words may even have been delivered accurately by the class of journalists who cannot give us a sports score without making a politically correct comment on race, sex, or sexual orientation. Whatever Holbrooke might have said on the way to his reward, the high points of his career were marked by his ruthless advocacy of war and slaughter. In the Former Yugoslavia he championed the rights of the ...
Webb: Look to Germany, Not China, for the Way to Recovery Post Date: 2010-12-14 11:39:26 by continental op

If the United States wants to claw its way back to economic self-determination, it should look not at China for the route forward, but at Germany. Such was the prescription issued Dec. 10 by U.S. Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.), speaking at the Arlington Chamber of Commerces annual meeting. Webb noted that Germany, while having a population just 8 percent of Chinas, had a higher trade surplus, and is the worlds biggest exporter. They produce quality products that people want, they take care of their workforce - they are doing something right, Webb said of the Germans, during a speech before about 320 Arlington business, political and civic leaders at the Sheraton ...
U.S. Retail Sales Rise Above Forecast as Consumers Recover Post Date: 2010-12-14 11:02:49 by go65

Sales at U.S. retailers rose more than forecast in November as holiday shopping got under way, a sign consumers will play a bigger role in the recovery. Purchases increased 0.8 percent, following a 1.7 percent gain in October that was larger than previously estimated, Commerce Department figures showed today in Washington. The median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg News called for a 0.6 percent rise. Excluding autos, gasoline and building materials, which are the figures used to calculate gross domestic product, sales climbed 0.9 percent, the most since August. Customers snapped up discounts at chains like Target Corp. and Macys Inc. during the Thanksgiving weekend, the ...

MINEOLA, N.Y. Facing a huge budget deficit when he took office in January, Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano did not impose a hiring freeze. He did not stop borrowing to subsidize some of the richest school districts in the country. He did not eliminate the Police Departments beloved mounted unit. Instead, Mr. Mangano, a Republican who won one of the first upsets of the Tea Party era, did what he had promised: He cut taxes, adding $40 million to the countys deficit, which has since reached nearly $350 million. Now, with its bonds suddenly downgraded and a state oversight agency preparing to seize its checkbook and credit cards, Nassau is on the verge of a ...

This is the first entirely "temporary help service" job recovery. Our current "recovery" might be in its seventeenth month, but the few new private sector jobs have come from companies temporarily hiring staff on a contract basis. What were once jobs reserved for people hired to cover seasonal demand or permanent employees on sick leave have become the standard employment for many workers. Companies simply dont want the risk of hiring workers that they might soon have to get rid of. Since the recovery started in June 2009, the total number of private sector jobs has increased by 203,000. But these weren't "regular," permanent jobs. Indeed, permanent ...

Attorney Ira Sorkin said Madoff instead will mourn privately at the North Carolina prison where he's serving a 150-year sentence for his fraud conviction in what authorities have called history's largest Ponzi scheme. Madoff's older son, Mark Madoff, 46, hanged himself early Saturday in his Manhattan apartment two years after his father was arrested on charges that he cheated thousands of people out of tens ...

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Far-reaching legislation to avert a Jan. 1 income-tax increase for millions won overwhelming support in a Senate test vote on Monday, propelled by an uneasy and unusual alliance between the White House and lawmakers in both parties. Eager to trumpet the 83-15 vote, President Barack Obama said even before it was announced it proved "that both parties can in fact work together to grow our economy and look out for the American people." Senate passage of the bill is expected as early as Tuesday, and in a brief appearance at the White House, Obama called on the House to follow suit quickly. He spoke amid indications that a revolt among House Democratic liberals was ...

Reality, and science, is starting to roll in. As Europe is locked in a massive cold snap (oh, sorry, I forgot, cold is now caused by greenhouse gases), and America is seeing lots of early snowfall and cold temperatures, people are looking at the real data, and The Observatory provides this bit of knowledge If the media headlines are to be believed 2010 is heading to be either the warmest or in the top three warmest years since the instrumental global temperature records began 150 years ago, and proof that the world is getting ever warmer. But looking more closely at the data reveals a different picture. 2010 will be remembered for just two warm months, attributable to the El Nino effect, ...

Tax bill gets 60 votes, set to pass first Senate hurdle Post Date: 2010-12-13 16:28:26 by go65

WASHINGTON Legislation to avert a Jan. 1 increase in income tax rates has gained 60 votes in the Senate, the level needed to advance toward a final vote. The roll call is continuing, and the test vote is not final. But the bipartisan show of support is a strong indication the measure will be passed and sent to the House, possibly as early as Tuesday. The bill provide a two-year reprieve in the tax increases that are scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1 at all income levels. It also reduces Social Security taxes for every wage earner in 2011 and extends an expiring program of jobless benefits for the long-term unemployed. The bill would provide a two-year reprieve in the tax ...

CHICAGO (AP) In Illinois, a pharmacist closes his business because of late Medicaid payments. In Arizona, a young father's liver transplant is canceled because Medicaid suddenly won't pay for it. In California, dentists pull teeth that could be saved because Medicaid doesn't pay for root canals. Across the country, state lawmakers have taken harsh actions to try to rein in the budget-busting costs of the health care program that serves 58 million poor and disabled Americans. Some states have cut payments to doctors, paid bills late and trimmed benefits such as insulin pumps, obesity surgery and hospice care. Lawmakers are bracing for more work when they reconvene in ...
Alaska Natives See 'Heartbreak' In Suicide Rate Post Date: 2010-12-13 15:02:03 by Brian S

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - (AP) She's just a regular Alaska Native, she says trying to be cool, even when she's not. Then Natasha Singh issues a blunt announcement to the unsuspecting audience: She suffers from depression. It's a taboo subject in Native communities across a state with a startlingly high rate of suicides, particularly among Alaska Natives. Singh believes many suicides among her peers are the result of this silence of young people denying their pain or numbing it with alcohol and drugs only to take the only way out they know. Singh, who also suffers from anxiety, wants to remove the stigma of seeking help in Alaska Native communities. That's why she ...
Obama Health Care Bill Ruled Unconstitutional Post Date: 2010-12-13 12:21:56 by go65

A Virginia judge has ruled that the Obama health care bill is unconstitutional. It's unconstitutional to force people to buy coverage, which is hurting shares of the insurers like UnitedHealth Group Inc. (NYSE: UNH) and WellPoint, Inc. (NYSE: WLP). The insurance companies initially spiked on the news, but just as fast as the spike happened, shares are coming back down just as fast. This would mean less business for these insurance companies, so potential profits will be hit. Congress has exceeded its power said Judge Hudson, the ruling judge in the case. The judge did not rule about the validity of the entire law, just this section of the law.
