Corporate entanglement of the web,The FCC's net neutrality rule is a weak compromise that will not stop industry control of content delivery at consumers' expense Post Date: 2010-12-23 17:04:54 by WhiteSands

I wasn't surprised to learn, on 21 December, that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) had passed its rule governing net neutrality 3-2 along party lines. The topic has been a source of partisan wrangling for years. Advocates of net neutrality argue users should control content viewed and applications used that a level playing-field promotes democratic participation and free speech. Broadband providers and telephone companies, though, want freedom to boost profits by deciding which content gets to whom first and fastest. Both sides argue theirs is the course encouraging economic innovation. My take: the new rule is another example of the Democrats' "half a ...

Dec. 14 (KGO) -- A lawsuit was filed Wednesday that aims to change the way the state of California charges out of state students to attend college. It claims that illegal immigrants pay less for a state education than out-of-state citizens. U.C. Davis student Chaning Jang has had it. The Hawaiian native is tired of paying $20,000 dollars more in out-of-state tuition than undocumented immigrant students pay. Those immigrants pay the same as Californians. Chaning Jang, UC Davis student: "It's pretty ridiculous how much more we pay, considering they're giving these kinds of tuition kickbacks to illegal immigrants that aren't even going to get to work here after they're ...
Napolitano Scolds Reporter for Airing Complaints of Dead Border Agent's Family Post Date: 2010-12-23 16:12:26 by WhiteSands

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, leaving the funeral of a murdered Border Patrol agent Wednesday, scolded a reporter for asking her to address the victim's family's concerns that not enough is being done to secure the southern border. The family of agent Brian Terry had complained that Napolitano had offered them "empty words" when she called to express her condolences. Terry's father, Kent Terry, in an interview with ABC affiliate KGUN, said he told Napolitano to "wake your man up in the White House," to which she replied that he's done more in two years than any president. Napolitano attended the Detroit funeral Wednesday where she vowed ...

It has been seven whole weeks now since the midterms, and like you, perhaps weve enjoyed watching football and "Glee" uninterrupted by campaign ads. But that doesnt mean theres no campaigning going on. Potential Republican presidential aspirants are off and running, jockeying for exposure on the airwaves and before audiences in key primary states. We have been keeping track, and have noticed some twisting of the truth already! (We know, youre shocked.) Sarah Palin revisits her earlier claim of "death panels" in the health care law, attributing the term to a different board than she did before the law was passed. But the claim ...
Senate Dems Unanimous: Time For Filibuster Reform Post Date: 2010-12-23 12:05:11 by Brian S

All Senate Democrats returning to Congress next year have signed a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid asking him to take up filibuster reform first thing in the new year. It's a sign that the Republicans' use of the filibuster at historically high rates to block Democratic legislation may have backfired, and coalesced the political capital needed to change Senate rules. The letter, delivered this week, "expresses general frustration with what Democrats consider unprecedented obstruction and asks Reid to take steps to end those abuses," the National Journal reports. Among the chief revisions that Democrats say will likely be offered: Senators could not initiate a ...
Hollywood & the Jewish War on Christmas Post Date: 2010-12-23 10:47:05 by continental op

Earlier this week, in Part One of this column about the War on Christmas, I wrote that the Jewish dominance of Hollywood is so obvious and undeniable that Los Angeles Times columnist Joel Stein recently made it official. What else can you say when all eight major film studios are run by Jews. Ive written on this theme extensively in The Occidental Quarterly (here, here, and here). Or you could read Jewtopia: The Chosen Book for the Chosen People, based on the surprise hit play by Bryan Fogel and Sam Wolfson. Or you could listen to David Mamet: For those who have not been paying attention, this group [Ashkenazi Jews] constitutes, and has constituted since its earliest ...
What do you think about Ron Paul voting NAY on H.R. 847 Healthcare for 9/11 responders? Post Date: 2010-12-22 21:29:20 by WhiteSands

I have always admired RP's loyalty to the Constitution. His NAY vote on Rosa Parks, and Arnold Palmer getting a medal, was the right thing to do. This particular situation of the 9/11 first responders getting their medical needs met, should be an exception IMO. The EPA lied to them and told them that the air was safe to breathe, and they are dying because of their exposure to it. I for one, don't mind paying for this. Hell, we've already bailed everyone else out, why not the guys who jumped in to help their fellow man. I'd much rather give money to these guys than those ******** at Goldman Sachs. I feel that this was an opportunity for RP to break from his usual stance ...
Alaska Supreme Court Rules Against Senate Hopeful Joe Miller Post Date: 2010-12-22 18:57:28 by Brian S

The Alaska Supreme Court on Wednesday denied Senate candidate Joe Miller's claims that the state conducted the midterm election improperly, effectively affirming incumbent Lisa Murkowski's 10,328-vote lead over Mr. Miller and paving the way for her to begin her term in January. Ms. Murkowski, who like Mr. Miller is Republican, had launched a write-in campaign for the Senate seat in August after Mr. Miller beat her in the Republican primary. The Associated Press declared her victorious in mid-November. But Mr. Miller had hoped that a court decision in his favor could pull him ahead of his rival. The decision culminates a weeks-long battle that wended its way through federal and ...
After Early Administration Denials, Director of National Intelligence Admits He Hadn’t Been Briefed on Alleged Terrorist Arrests in London Post Date: 2010-12-22 16:42:52 by WhiteSands

After initially suggesting that Director of National Intelligence James Clappers inability to answer a question from ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer about the arrests of 12 suspected terrorists in London was because her question was too ambiguous, the Obama administration acknowledged Wednesday morning that retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Clapper had not been briefed about the arrests at the time of the interview. Director Clapper had not yet been briefed on the arrests in the United Kingdom at the time of this interview taping, said ODNI spokeswoman Jamie Smith in a statement. Clapper, she explained, had been working throughout the day on important ...

However history judges the 535 men and women in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate the past two years, one thing is certain: The 111th Congress made more law affecting more Americans since the Great Society legislation of the 1960s. For the first time since President Theodore Roosevelt began the quest for a national health-care system more than 100 years ago, the Democrat-led House and Senate took the biggest step toward achieving that goal by giving 32 million Americans access to insurance. Congress rewrote the rules for Wall Street in the most comprehensive way since the Great Depression. It spent more than $1.67 trillion to revive an economy on the verge of a ...

The U.S. Senate approved legislation to help those who responded to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York City. The path for approval on a voice vote was secured earlier today when Senate Republicans agreed to drop their opposition to the legislation. The Christmas miracle weve been looking for has arrived, Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, New York Democrats, in a statement. The bill provides for $4.3 billion in additional aid over five years, with $1.5 billion for health benefits and $2.7 billion for compensation, said Senator Tom Coburn, an Oklaahoma Republican who had been opposing the bill because of cost concerns. The House initially ...

Jets coach Rex Ryan calls foot-fetish videos a 'personal matter' A day after a series of bizarre foot-fetish videos were made widely available of a woman who looks like the wife of Rex Ryan, the Jets coach dodged questions on the matter today, saying the issue is a "personal matter." Asked by reporters during a media conference call this morning, Ryan said, "I know you need to ask, it's a personal matter. The four videos posted yesterday afternoon on the sports gossip site Deadspin.com show the woman displaying her feet for a cameraman who sounds like he could be Ryan. Known for putting his foot in his mouth in the past, Ryan will likely be asked about ...

The Marxists in the administration and the Obazoids over at the FCC have decided that you are far to dangerous to be allowed free and uncensored access to the internet. Obamas bud Hugo did it, so why cant he? Aside from the fact that a federal judge has ruled that the FCC et al had vastly overreached in its previous attempt at control of cable TV channels, the FCC has no federal mandate to regulate the internet or any portion thereof. Its plainly an assault on the First Amendment. This cannot stand. We need to throw our support behind SC Republican Senator Jim DeMint in battling this outrage and getting it repealed. Another huge thorn are the RINOs who sold us down the ...
Judge Finds ‘Increasing’ Difficulty In Seating Marijuana Juries Post Date: 2010-12-22 11:26:23 by Brian S

It's becoming more and more difficult to find juries that will produce a guilty verdict in marijuana cases, according to a judge in Missoula County, Montana. "I think it's going to become increasingly difficult to seat a jury in marijuana cases, at least the ones involving a small amount," District Judge Dusty Deschamps said Friday after potential jurors refused to convict a Montana man for having a 1/16 of an ounce of Marijuana. An April 23 search of Touray Cornell's home found several used marijuana joints, a pipe, and some residue. He's is also charged with the criminal distribution of dangerous drugs. Cornell's neighbors had called the police because they ...
California Records Rain and Snow Measured in Feet Post Date: 2010-12-22 11:24:06 by go65

An estimated 17 feet (5.2 meters) of snow has fallen at a monitor near the Kern River in Californias Sierra Nevada mountains in less than a week, according to the U.S. Hydrometeorological Prediction Center. Central and southern California have borne the brunt of a Pacific storm that has dropped rain by the foot in some places, as well as heavy snow in the mountains, forcing officials to call for the evacuation of 2,000 people earlier this week. This is definitely a rare occasion for southern California, Noel Isla, a National Weather Service meteorologist in San Diego, said late yesterday. The totals in the end will probably be some of the highest in history. ...

Bush vs Gore 10 years later [Full Thread] Post Date: 2010-12-22 10:13:10 by no gnu taxes

Ten years ago, Al Gore tried to steal the presidency of George W. Bush. That is how the story should be written for all of history, but the left will try to spin it otherwise. Rehashing every single moment in the 36 day 2000 Election drama would be more boring than an Al Gore speech. A decade later, some things that were true in 2000 remain true in 2010. Richard Nixon could have sued to challenge the election of John Kennedy in 1960. There was real election fraud, with dead people in Chicago and other dirty tricks in LBJs home state of Texas providing the difference. Nixon refused to challenge the results because he did not want to plunge America into a constitutional crisis. ...

Obama Has Everything Covered Except Our Future Christmas has arrived with tax cuts for the rich and more handouts for the unemployed. That is President Barack Obamas economic plan, and it is not a new one. Ive been writing about Washington for more than 25 years and the Federal government reminds me of an alcoholic friend who used to say: Dont worry; I am going to quit drinking
tomorrow. Obama, like so many Presidents before him, pledges he wont mortgage our childrens future. Yet he and the rest of Washington do exactly that, month after month, year after year. Federal debt could reach $20 trillion in five years. It is hard to know where the ...

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The U.S. economy grew at a slightly faster pace during the third quarter than previously estimated, driven by stronger consumer spending, the government said Wednesday. Gross domestic product, the broadest measure of the nation's economic activity, grew at an annual rate of 2.6% in the three months ended in September, according to the Commerce Department, up from the previous reading of a 2.5% rise. Economists expected the third and final reading of third quarter GDP, which is a measure of goods and services produced in the United States, to tick up to 2.7%, according to a consensus of economist opinion from Briefing.com. The government calculates GDP as ...
Obama Administration Drafting Order on Indefinite Detention for Guantanamo Detainees Post Date: 2010-12-22 00:43:09 by WhiteSands

The Obama administration is drafting an executive order that would call for a regular review process for detainees currently under indefinite detention at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. A White House official tells Fox News the draft order "would set up periodic review of the detention status of those detainees who cannot be tried in Article III or military commissions." They also point to the fact that the President has promised this in the past. "We must have clear, defensible and lawful standards for those who fall in this category," said Obama during a speech in May, 2009. "We must have fair procedures so that we don't make mistakes. We ...

Less than an hour after the Federal Communications Commission approved net neutrality rules, Republican lawmakers began staking their claim in the next potential leg of the debate: repeal. The first calls to roll back the FCC's new net neutrality order came Tuesday from the House's most senior Republicans: House GOP Leader John Boehner of Ohio and Whip Eric Cantor of Virginia, as well as the incoming leaders of the chamber's top tech and telecom committees. The members each threatened to limit the agency's funds or restrict its jurisdiction in the aftermath of the FCCs vote, with Boehner proclaiming the "new House majority will work to reverse this unnecessary ...

WASHINGTON - Metro Police started randomly inspecting bags at the Braddock Road and College Park Metro stations Tuesday. The searches, which are designed to be non-intrusive, came in the wake of recent terror plots and the same morning that an explosive device was found under a subway car seat in Rome. The searches started at 7:30 a.m. and lasted about an hour at the Braddock Metro station. During the searches, police randomly selected bags or packages and checked for hazardous materials using special technology. Screeners swabbed some bags and inspected them in a process that look less than a minute each. Some common items, such as household chemicals, can prompt a positive test. ...

Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour has issued a statement about his remarks in The Weekly Standard about race and white Citizens Councils. The Republican lawmaker said he accurately depicted the role of the Yazoo City, Miss. leadership at that time. "My point was my town rejected the Ku Klux Klan, but nobody should construe that to mean I think the town leadership were saints, either. Their vehicle, called the 'Citizens Council,' is totally indefensible, as is segregation. It was a difficult and painful era for Mississippi, the rest of the country, and especially African Americans who were persecuted at that time," Barbour said. It would be one thing if the Creator of heaven and earth were real and He said those words but we all know God is not real, ask any liberal. In my last post I wrote about how the liberals in Government hated having all these right wingers dominate our military makeup, you think this might make em feel better to put a culture of San Francisco decadence in the only facet ...

NEW YORK (AP) A right-wing New Jersey blogger has been sentenced to 33 months in prison for making death threats against three federal judges in Illinois. Hal Turner was sentenced Tuesday in New York City federal court. The case stemmed from the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling in 2009 by three judges that upheld a district court decision dismissing lawsuits that challenged handgun bans in Chicago and Oak Park, Ill. Turner protested the decision with inflammatory remarks posted online. Prosecutors say he crossed the line by declaring, "These judges must die." Turner had claimed his tirades were protected by the constitutional right to free speech. The case was ...
