Tucson, Arizona (CNN) -- They described it as "a miracle." Shot in the head less than a week ago, U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords opened her eyes briefly for the first time Wednesday, with her husband, her parents and other members of Congress in the room. "It was extraordinary," said Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-New York, who was holding Giffords' hand at the time. "It was a miracle to witness." The incident occurred shortly after President Barack Obama had visited Giffords in her hospital room. Less than an hour later, given permission to disclose the information by Mark Kelly, Giffords' husband, Obama electrified a memorial-service crowd and a national ...
At Congresswoman's Bedside, Good News Keeps Coming Post Date: 2011-01-13 13:24:49 by Brian S

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- Even Gabrielle Giffords' doctors are starting to call her recovery a miracle. Few people who take a bullet to the brain - just 10 percent - survive such a devastating wound. Yet doctors say the critically injured congresswoman has been making steady progress each day since the assassination attempt on Saturday. Six people were shot and killed. Giffords is moving both legs and both arms, has opened both eyes and is responding to friends and family, doctors said Thursday. They've helped her sit up and dangle her legs from the bed, and she is able to lift her legs. With her closest friends from Congress holding her hand Wednesday evening, Giffords opened her ...
Government union workers dump & whizz in government buses & trains Post Date: 2011-01-13 13:19:50 by Happy Quanzaa

Metro workers use trains, buses, tunnels as lavatories Metro bus and train operators have had to resort to relieving themselves inside their trains and buses, say current and former workers. One operator said she twice found feces under piles of newspapers inside the cab of the trains assigned to her. A bus driver said he found bottles of urine in the bus trash can. One even admitted to heeding the call of nature on the buses and trains. "I have. Oh, everybody has. I even soiled my clothes once," one longtime operator told The Washington Examiner. "That's why the trains smell like urine near where the operators are." The problem, they and their union say, is not ...
SCANDAL! Obama Fibbed About Giffords “Opening Her Eyes for the First Time” Post Date: 2011-01-13 12:17:10 by no gnu taxes

Posted by Jim Hoft on Thursday, January 13, 2011, 5:10 AM In one of the most memorable moments of the memorial last night in Tucson, Barack Obama told the pep audience that Rep. Gabrielle Giffords had opened her eyes for the first time on Wednesday night. But, unfortunately it was not true. The Sonoran Chronicle reported that Rep. Giffords could open her eyes on Sunday. (The Sonoron has since pulled the article.) The bullet traveled the entire length of the brain on the left side, said Dr. Rhee, Chief Trauma Surgeon at the University Medical Center, at a press conference on Sunday. In terms of being shot in the head, this is about as good as its going to ...
Liberals Blame Crowd for Obama’s Terrible Speech Post Date: 2011-01-13 12:12:44 by no gnu taxes

Obama just finished giving a terrible speech in Tucson. Liberals are actually blaming the crowd for his dreadful performance. While its true that the crowd was a complete embarrassment, it wasnt the reason why Obamas speech completely bombed just like his last two books. He stumbled like a community organizer would at an ACORN meeting. He had difficulty pronouncing the word aging. The type of speech that Obama gave is one of the easiest ones to deliver and he still missed the lay-up. I guess hes aging.

Reader Joshua Jones, who lived through the Virginia Tech shooting rampage and attended the campus memorial where President Bush spoke, e-mails his response to the whooping and hollering during President Obamas memorial tribute to the Tucson massacre victims at the University of Arizona tonight: Mrs. Malkin, My background: I was in the audience in Cassel Coliseum on April 17, 2007. I heard President Bush speak after a crazy b@st@rd (Seung-Hui Cho) shot up my college. In a few days I would bury a man whom I had last seen when he came up to me the week earlier to congratulate me on my baptism and entry into the Catholic Church over Easter Weekend. It would be my first military ...
Summing Up The Tucson Obama Rally -- Obama is a classic Malignant Narcissist Post Date: 2011-01-13 11:48:09 by no gnu taxes

Well, the Tucson Tragedy Memorial Obama Rally was, were told, really supposed to be a Pep Unity Rally, so they meant all that cheering and campaign-like atmosphere. Except for Governor Jan Brewer who was booed by the Unified, Peppy crowd. Only certain people get the Unity, you see. The branding commenced, the free t-shirts were handed out, and concessions were no doubt enjoyed. Funny, I dont think Im the only one who remembers Obama BSing and manipulating his way through the 2008 election, and I just saw it happen again tonight. And just like in 2007 and 2008 quite a number of conservatives thought the speech was just fabulous. It certainly is a stark reminder ...
Tucson Tea Party Founder Says Giffords To Blame For Getting Shot Post Date: 2011-01-13 11:43:05 by Brian S

One tea party leader says that Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) has herself to blame for getting shot in the head Saturday. The Arizona congresswoman shouldn't have attended an event "in full view of the public" if she had security concerns, according to Tucson Tea Party co-founder Trent Humphries. Giffords warned MSNBC's Chuck Todd last year that there would be "consequences" to violent rhetoric and imagery after Fox News' Sarah Palin released a graphic which placed crosshairs over the congresswoman's district. "But the thing is that the way that [Palin] has it depicted has the crosshairs of a gunsight over our district," Giffords said. "And ...

The tragic shootings of a Democratic congresswoman and nineteen others Saturday did little to ease the vitriol in the national dialogue, but President Barack Obama's speech saw liberals and conservatives converge with praise. In a televised memorial address Wednesday night at the University of Arizona, the president called for national unity in the wake of the tragedy that badly injured Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona and left six others dead, including a federal judge and an aide to Giffords. "Our hearts are broken by their sudden passing. Our hearts are broken -- and yet, our hearts also have reason for fullness," Obama said in an emotional speech honoring the victims. ...

President Obama spoke at McKale Center in Tucson, Ariz. tonight about the tragic shooting that left 6 dead and 14 wounded over the weekend. People lined up early this morning on the University of Arizona campus to get into the memorial event. At the time of the speech the arena was full to capacity with 14,000 in attendance and an additional screen was set up at the nearby Arizona Football Stadium to accommodate overflow. Attendants were heavily screened before being able to enter the arena. After brief remarks by UA President Robert Shelton, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Attorney General Eric Holder and Daniel Hernandez, the intern who saved ...

The first impressions in light of President Obamas speech at tonights memorial for the victims of the Arizona shooting, and, at least on Fox News, the reviews are overwhelming positive. Charles Krauthammer, Chris Wallace, and Brit Hume seemed a bit uncomfortable with all the hootin and hollerin, but all seemed blown away by the Presidents words. For Hume, the Presidents greatest achievement during the speech was rolling with the punches the audience was really in control of this event, he noted, but President Obama went with it. He behaved as some of his partisans have not, with considerable dignity and grace, he ...
Obama Goes To Tucson; A Paul Wellstone Memorial Redux? Post Date: 2011-01-13 10:28:55 by no gnu taxes

Ah, Barack Obama finally gets the moment the liberal intelligentsia has been praying for: A chance to "heal" the American people after a senseless tragedy, deftly pinned on political enemies. But these healing moments can sometimes - if used carelessly - can wind up pouring kerosene into the wounds. Let's go back to 2003, and the untimely death of hardcore liberal Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone, and his memorial service, which turned into a pep rally for the Democratic party: Gov. Ventura says he was so upset by the partisan tone of the public eulogies for Paul Wellstone that he may appoint an independent to fill Wellstone's seat. Twenty-thousand people showed up at ...

I missed the memorial tonight, but caught some excerpts on the way home from work. I couldnt believe what I was hearing. This was no memorial. This was the left not letting a crisis go to waste. As I tuned in the radio, they were playing a clip of some indian chief-or somebody babbling on about himself, mother earth, medicine men and all kinds of other crap. Apparently, he teaches at the University of Arizona, and everytime he mentioned the school name, whoops and howls came from the seemingly drunken crowd. God only knows what he teaches there. The glee club was just as boisterous for Janet Napolitano, whos Homeland Security goons had the shooter tied to anti-Semitic, racist ...

All I could do when I heard the thunderous applause for President Obama and the wild cheers especially was to put myself in the shoes of a parent who lost a child. If that was a memorial service for my child, I cant imagine feeling like the woos from the audience were appropriate. It left a bad taste in my mouth. Click for Full Text!

(CNN) -- NASA has never flown a manned space shuttle mission. There was no Mars rover. People can make their own currency. From February 2009 through September 2010, someone using the name "Erad3" made these and a series of other assertions -- unusual at best, disturbed at worst -- on the website abovetopsecret.com. Erad3, according to site co-owner Mark Allin, was almost certainly Jared Lee Loughner, the 22-year-old man accused of killing six people and injuring 14 others last weekend, including U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Arizona. The site, Allin said, focuses on "alternative news" and information "not covered by the mainstream media." Allin noted ...

(CNN) - Accused Arizona gunman Jared Lee Loughner was not registered to any political party, and in fact hand wrote "independent" on two separate voter forms, county officials said Monday. Pima County, Arizona, Registrar of Voters Chris Roads said Loughner registered to vote on September 26, 2006. Voters are not required to list a political party, but are instructed to write at least the first three letters of any party they want to be affiliated with. The state of Arizona recognizes dozens of affiliations. Records obtained by CNN show Loughner chose to write IND on one form, and independent (misspelled) on the second form. Roads said Loughner voted in the general elections ...

Updated: The sole black Republican Party district chairman in Arizona resigned from his post in the wake of Saturday's shooting, citing threats from the Tea Party faction and concerns for his family's safety, The Arizona Republic first reported. Republican District 20 Chairman Anthony Miller was not the only party official to resign following the shooting that killed six and wounded 14 others, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) and a federal judge. But Miller had been an especially dedicated campaigner for the GOP, and said he only stepped down in the face of "constant verbal attacks" and other forms of intimidation. "I wasn't going to resign but ...
President Obama to be Nation’s Consoler at Memorial Service Post Date: 2011-01-12 18:51:26 by Brian S

WASHINGTON (AP) Searching for unity out of tragedy, President Barack Obama will honor the victims of the Arizona mass shooting in personal terms and remind those in grief that an entire nation is with them. The president is again stepping into his role as national consoler, a test of leadership that comes with the job. His mission at Wednesdays memorial is to uplift and rally, not to examine political incivility. Set to speak during an evening gathering in Tucson, Ariz., Obama will remember the six people killed in a point-blank assassination attempt against a congresswoman who had been meeting with constituents outside a grocery store. Remarkably, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords ...
Blood Libel: Why Sarah Palin's Reference Has Stirred Controversy Post Date: 2011-01-12 17:07:20 by go65

Sarah Palin's intentions may have been to shift the blame away from herself with her fiery criticism of the media manufacturing a "blood libel," but instead, it's put her in the hot seat again. Referring to criticism leveled against her after the Tucson incident, for using gun imagery in a 2010 election map, Palin said, "But, especially within hours of a tragedy unfolding, journalists and pundits should not manufacture a blood libel that serves only to incite the very hatred and violence they purport to condemn. That is reprehensible." The term "blood libel" has been used historically to falsely accuse Jews of using Christian children's blood to ...
Obamacare as debt-reduction legislaton (To you idiots who think this) Post Date: 2011-01-12 16:37:03 by no gnu taxes

For the past few weeks, Democrats have been arguing against the repeal of Obamacare on the grounds that the program is a debt-reduction measure. The argument is hard to take seriously, so I haven't addressed it, though I've provided links to some who have. But the Dems have been so persistent with this claim that perhaps it's time to analyze it. I see three problems with defending Obamacare as a debt-reducer. First, as I understand it, the claim is based on a ten year window. I don't think even the Democrats are claiming that it will be revenue positive over a longer horizon. Certainly the Congressional Budget Office, on which the Dems rely, doesn't make that claim. ...
