For the month of December things werent quiet as bad as the awful November numbers in Washington State except for the fact that some 36,730 Washingtonians dropped out of the workforce and gave up trying to find a job. The U3 number (% collecting unemployment benefits) came in at 324,270 which was less than November because of a math detail. That detail centers on the number of people LEAVING the workforce (above). The U6 number or the number of folks unemployed including those in the U3 category was 599,195. Things were gloom in King County: 8.4% collecting benefits or 92,170 that means that 186,534 people remain unemployed in the states largest county. In Snohomish County the ...

Glenn Beck Predicted Olbermann's Fall Post Date: 2011-01-26 10:16:52 by no gnu taxes

Last November, Glenn Beck earned a denunciation as one of the worst people in the world on Keith Olbermann's now defunct freak show by predicting that Queef would be dumped as soon as Comcast took over MSNBC, because unlike GE it would be more interested in building an audience and generating revenue than in ultra-left propagandizing and Obamunist rump-nuzzling (Chris Matthews, beware). Hilariously, Olbie presented this as evidence that Beck knows nothing about television. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036677//vp/40326028#40326028 Sure enough, within three days of bureauweenies approving the NBC UniversalComcast merger, Olbermann got the ax as predicted. Beck knows what he's ...

Marines To Train In Mock City As Big As San Diego Post Date: 2011-01-25 12:32:03 by Brian S

A 1,560-building mock city that's roughly the size of San Diego has risen in the Southern California desert. The $170 million Marine Corps urban training center at the Twentynine Palms military base is some 130 miles northeast of Los Angeles. The Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center facility that debuts Tuesday uses mock cities and role players to prepare Marines and sailors for urban terrain missions. The Palm Springs Desert Sun reports the new center expands on a similar training program called Mojave Viper, which launched in 2005 to prepare troops for the war and life in Iraq. ___ Information from: The Desert Sun, www.mydesert.com/
Thomas Jefferson Also Supported Government Run Health Care Post Date: 2011-01-25 10:16:14 by go65

In response to my earlier piece on An Act for the Relief of Sick and Disabled Seamen, the 1798 law revealing that a number of our founders were more supportive of the notion of mandated health coverage and a government run hospital system than some may have imagined, many have noted that it is not surprising that such legislation would have been signed into law by President John Adams, a noted Federalist who serves as a model for much of what todays Tea Party finds objectionable. Their point is not wholly unreasonable. After all, it was John Adams who brought us the highly objectionable Alien & Sedition Acts. However, Washington Post blogger, Greg Sargent, today ...
Police fear 'war on cops' (11 shot in 24 hours) Post Date: 2011-01-24 19:11:33 by Hondo68

A spate of shooting attacks on law enforcement officers has authorities concerned about a war on cops. In just 24 hours, at least 11 officers were shot. The shootings included Sunday attacks at traffic stops in Indiana and Oregon, a Detroit police station shooting that wounded four officers, and a shootout at a Port Orchard, Wash., Wal-Mart that injured two deputies. On Monday morning, two officers were shot dead and a U.S. Marshal was wounded by a gunman in St. Petersburg, Fla. On Thursday, two Miami-Dade, Fla., detectives were killed by a murder suspect they were trying to arrest. "It's not a fluke," said Richard Roberts, spokesman for the International Union of Police ...
Police: Woman Accused Of Hanging Dog, Burning Its Body After It Chewed On Bible Post Date: 2011-01-24 19:07:53 by Brian S

Authorities have charged a South Carolina woman with felony animal cruelty, saying she hanged her nephew's pit bull from a tree with an electrical cord and burned its body because the dog chewed on her Bible. Animal control officers said Monday that 65-year-old Miriam Smith told them she killed a female dog named Diamond because it was a "devil dog" and she worried it could harm neighborhood children. Authorities said bond wasn't immediately set for Smith, who remains jailed in Spartanburg County after her weekend arrest. Officials said she didn't have an attorney yet. She faces 180 days to five years in prison if convicted. Authorities say the remains of the dog ...
Civility…or Servitude? Post Date: 2011-01-24 16:11:01 by Capitalist Eric

In the wake of the Tucson shootings, there has been a new call to "tone down" political rhetoric. Of course, much of the call to "civility" has come from the left accompanied by hateful, uncivil rhetoric which seeks to both politically exploit the situation as well as shut down its opposition. One of the loudest voices for "civility" comes from Jim Wallis and the Sojourners group, which seek to espouse a "Progressive Gospel" in which Christianity is melded with the Welfare State. After the shooting, Wallis wrote that it was "an attack on the soul of the nation," which is nothing less than a declaration that the only Gospel is ...
US Rep Cantor: No Federal Bailouts For State Governments Post Date: 2011-01-24 15:58:20 by Brian S

WASHINGTON -- A top House Republican says the federal government will not bail out fiscally ailing states. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia also says he opposes a proposal to revamp federal laws to let states declare bankruptcy. At a time when most states are running huge budget deficits, some congressional Republicans and conservative groups are suggesting that states be allowed to seek protection in federal bankruptcy court, which they are currently not allowed to do. They are generally opposed by public employee unions, liberal groups and some lawmakers of both parties. Cantor told reporters on Monday that he opposes letting states declare bankruptcy because they can ...
Is the world's largest super-volcano set to erupt for the first time in 600,000 years (Is it Sarah Palin's fault?) Post Date: 2011-01-24 14:29:26 by no gnu taxes

It would explode with a force a thousand times more powerful than the Mount St Helens eruption in 1980. Spewing lava far into the sky, a cloud of plant-killing ash would fan out and dump a layer 10ft deep up to 1,000 miles away. Two-thirds of the U.S. could become uninhabitable as toxic air sweeps through it, grounding thousands of flights and forcing millions to leave their homes. This is the nightmare that scientists are predicting could happen if the worlds largest super-volcano erupts for the first time in 600,000 years, as it could do in the near future. Yellowstone National Parks caldera has erupted three times in the last 2.1million years and researchers monitoring it ...

ST. PETERSBURG - Two St. Petersburg police officers were shot to death and a U.S. marshal was injured early Monday in gunfire that broke out as police tried to serve a domestic battery warrant at a St. Petersburg home. ``Our community has suffered a loss today,'' St. Petersburg police Chief Chuck Harmon said during a somber press conference with Mayor Bill Foster outside Bayfront Medical Center. The St. Petersburg officers became the first killed during service since 1980. Harmon said the wives of both were notified and ``in shock.'' One of the officers had children. Police have not yet released the officers' names. The officers were shot Monday morning after ...

Davis took a bullet in the back. Then the gunman rushed the horseshoe-shaped front desk with his weapon drawn. Sgt. Ray Saati and Officer David Anderson were hit before police killed the 38-year-old shooter. Voodoo economics? Tote up the jobs from Obama's stimulus Post Date: 2011-01-24 13:07:15 by no gnu taxes

Democrats have lambasted Republicans for years for believing in "Voodoo economics." Well, the evidence is mounting that economic superstition is alive and well in the nation's political circles, though it has nothing to do with a fondness for tax cuts. It's instead the crazy belief that the government can spend its way to prosperity for the rest of us. Underscoring this conclusion, the Ways and Means Committee in the new GOP-majority House released a report titled "It's Official: On Unemployment and Jobs, Democrats' 2009 Stimulus Was a Huge Failure." The Ways and Means report provides a number of striking reminders about the predictions the White House ...
Good riddance to Keith Olbermann Post Date: 2011-01-24 12:18:16 by no gnu taxes

Keith Olbermann was never short of pretentiousness. Unfortunately he was very short on objectivity, professional journalism and what real liberal thinking is all about which always starts with the truth. Olbermann had no problem attacking Fox News, Glenn Beck or Bill O'Reilly, an exercise that, given his audience was a complete waste of time and accomplished absolutely nothing. But Olbermann, like most faux liberals in the press spent most of his time behaving like the kind of knee jerk cocktail party liberal that populated Lenny Bruce routines on race back in the 1960's, the "Joe Louis sure is a helluva fighter" school of journalism, refusing to admit, acknowledge or ...
We Are A Religious Nation -- Or Are We? Post Date: 2011-01-24 11:41:56 by Ferret Mike

A journalist once asked Mahatma Gandhi what he thought of Western civilization. He answered: "It's a good idea. They ought to try it". Similarly, we might urge followers of world religions: "Some nice moral principles. You ought to live them." Reliable polls tell us that America is the most religious nation in the industrialized world. More that 90 percent of our population say they believe in God, and that they pray regularly. In his New Testament Epistle, James expressed the Christian view that "faith without works is dead." Similarly, Judaism calls for "mitzvahs" -- good deeds. And Islam requires acts of charity. How do these sentiments ...
Former Secretary of State Backs US Military Cuts As Overseas Operations Wind Down Post Date: 2011-01-24 11:05:05 by Brian S

The US militarys budget should be considered for cuts as current overseas operations wind down, a former Secretary of State under President George W. Bush said Sunday. "As we draw down from Iraq and as over the next several years as we draw down from Afghanistan, I see no reason why the military shouldn't be looked at," Colin Powell told CNNs Candy Crowley on "State of the Union." He continued, "When the Cold War ended 20 years ago, when I was chairman [of the Joint Chiefs of Staff] and Mr. Cheney was secretary of Defense, we cut the defense budget by 25 percent. And we reduced the force by 500,000 active duty soldiers, so it can be done." ...
Liberals: Why Did Olberdork Lose His Job? It Was Bush's Fault Post Date: 2011-01-24 10:42:27 by no gnu taxes

Are you ready for tremendous leaps in logic? Well, when discussing the left-wing in this country there is always a giant gap in thinking, but this takes the cake. By now you know that MSNBC's Keith Olbermann is leaving the network. The exact details are unclear; it is not known whether he was fired, left on his own, or both he and the channel came to some sort of agreement. Either way, liberals are returning to the old stand-by that Olbermann himself helped start: it is all Bush's fault. Now you might say to yourself: 'Wait, how could they say that? Nobody except for Olbermann and NBC know why he was canned. And anyway, Bush hasn't been in office for over two years.' ...
Defense spending not sacred to Tea Party Post Date: 2011-01-24 09:17:03 by go65

WASHINGTON Back home, Tea Party supporters clamoring for the debt-ridden government to slash spending say nothing should be off limits. Tea Party-backed lawmakers echo that argument, and theyre not exempting the militarys multibillion-dollar budget in a time of war. That demand is creating hard choices for the newest members of Congress, especially Republicans who owe their elections and solid House majority to the influential grass-roots movement. Cutting defense and canceling weapons could mean deep spending reductions and high marks from Tea Party supporters as the nation wrestles with a $1.3 trillion deficit. Yet it also could jeopardize thousands of jobs when ...
