Potentially historic winter storm poised to impact 100 million Americans Post Date: 2011-01-31 18:05:19 by go65

A huge and potentially historic winter storm is taking shape over the Southern Plains today. By the time the storm exits New England on Wednesday night, as many as 50 million Americans may see heavy snows of at least 6 inches or dangerous ice accumulations of 1/4" or more from the massive storm, and 100 million will be affected by the storm. A potent jet stream with strong winds will dive southwards over the central U.S. today, allowing a cold Arctic airmass to spill southwards out of Canada. In front of this cold air, a flow of very warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico will surge northwards, providing copious moisture to fuel snowfall amounts that will likely approach two feet ...
Federal Judge Rules Obamacare Unconstitutional -- Good riddance to that shit Post Date: 2011-01-31 15:39:13 by no gnu taxes

Federal Judge Roger Vinson of the Northern District of Florida Court ruled that Obamacare is unconstitutional and the entire law is void. Ronald Reagan appointed Vinson to the bench in 1983, a very fitting present to honor the 100th birthday of Reagan. By my count three Federal Judges have ruled against Obamacare while one has ruled for Obamacare. These rulings taken all together this is very good news because I am told it could fast track the appeals process to the U.S. Supreme Court since the Supreme Court takes a special interest in cases that have been ruled on differently by separate federal district courts. This could take a couple years though for the case to work its way up to ...
Can You Believe President Obama? Post Date: 2011-01-31 14:49:43 by Capitalist Eric

Should we believe our Presidents recent State of the Union statement suggesting that weve made it through the worst of the economic crisis? Two years after the worst recession most of us have ever known, the stock market has come roaring back. Corporate profits are up. The economy is growing again. -President Barack Obama, State of the Union, January 2011 Via The Daily Crux and David Rosenberg The stock market is, indeed, roaring back from well below 7000 on the Dow Jones. And according to a recent Politifact review, corporate profits for 2010 will likely come in higher than those of 2007, before the onset of the crisis. But is it economic growth that drove profits ...
Was 2010 the Warmest Year Ever? Post Date: 2011-01-31 12:48:28 by no gnu taxes

It is widely being reported that, based on surface-temperature data from the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), 2010 was tied for the warmest year on record. What is not so widely reported is that those surface temperature data have been so shamelessly manipulated by climate alarmists that they are entirely unreliable. For a short course in one of the great scientific scandals of all time, go here. There are a number of things wrong with the data produced by NOAA and NASA, but one of the most basic involves the urban heat island effect. It it commonly understood that cities are warmer than the ...
Midwest, Plains Brace For Massive Winter Storm Post Date: 2011-01-31 11:37:27 by Brian S

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- Transportation officials lined up snow plows and utilities prepared for the worst as a blizzard crept towards the Midwest Monday. Forecasters said the storm could drop up to an inch of freezing rain and warned of high winds, whiteout conditions and snow drifts that might reach 10 feet in parts of the region. The National Weather Service said the storm was expected to march from the Rockies through much of the Plains and Midwest, hitting the area particularly hard on Tuesday and Wednesday, before making its way to the East Coast. Bitterly cold temperatures are forecast in the wake of the storm. Early Monday, freezing drizzle made roads slick in northwest Missouri, ...
Clinton Ambassador Meeting: Unprecedented Mass Meeting Of Top Envoys Post Date: 2011-01-31 11:31:11 by Brian S

WASHINGTON Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is convening an unprecedented mass meeting of U.S. ambassadors. The top envoys from nearly all of America's 260 embassies, consulates and other posts in more than 180 countries will be gathering at the State Department beginning on Monday. Officials say it's the first such global conference. The gathering comes at a time of crisis in Egypt that could reshape dynamics in the Middle East, fallout from leaked diplomatic documents and congressional calls for sweeping cuts in foreign aid. Although the meeting has been called to discuss U.S. foreign policy priorities for 2011, officials say Clinton plans to meet personally ...
FLASHBACK! Coming August 31: ‘Direct Access’ Stimulus Grants for the Muslim Brotherhood Post Date: 2011-01-30 20:41:53 by A K A Stone

Think of it as ACORN reborn, with a slice of Jihad on the side. On August 31, this coming Tuesday, the Muslim Brotherhood-associated Coordinating Council of Muslim Organizations (CCMO) will bring 25-30 Muslim leaders of 20 national Muslim groups to attend a special workshop presented by the White House and U.S. Government agencies (Agriculture, Education, Homeland Security, Health and Human Services etc.) to provide the groups funding, government assistance and resources. The workshop will apparently provide special access for these Muslim Brotherhood organizations: the organizers pledge to provide direct access and cut through red tape. ...
Man Gets Six Years For Threatening Letters To Obama Post Date: 2011-01-30 19:57:52 by Ferret Mike

A Denver-area man has been sentenced to six years in federal prison for mailing threatening letters, some with white powder, to President Barack Obama, members of Congress from Colorado and Alabama, and Argentine consulates. The U.S. attorney's office for Colorado says 42-year-old Jay Stuart DeVaughn of Aurora, also known as Jay Paige Edwards, was also sentenced Friday to three years of supervised release. DeVaughn pleaded guilty in August to mailing threatening communications and conveying false information to elected officials. Authorities say he mailed a letter to Obama that was intercepted in September 2009. The envelope contained a plastic bag of white powder and a reference to ...

A California man is in jail on a terrorism charge after he was arrested in Dearborn for allegedly trying to blow up the biggest mosque in metro Detroit, Dearborn officials said today. The suspect was arrested in the parking lot of the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn on Monday, while hundreds were inside the mosque that sits along Ford Road, police said. He came to the city because of its large Arab-American and Muslim population, police said. Roger Stockham, 63, was arraigned Wednesday on one count on a threat of terrorism or false report and one count of explosive-possession of bombs with unlawful intent for possession of Class C fireworks, Dearborn Police said. "He's ...
Hundreds At Anti-Mubarak Protest In Washington Post Date: 2011-01-29 19:11:22 by Brian S

WASHINGTON Hundreds of opponents of Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak called at a rally in Washington Saturday for his overthrow and urged Washington to "stand on the right side of history" and cut off aid to his regime. Amid a sea of Egyptian and American flags and protest placards in English and Arabic with slogans including "Pharaoh no more" and "Overthrow Mubarak," the crowd, estimated at between 900 and 1,000, took turns leading chants in front of the Egyptian embassy. "Mubarak has to go," shouted Ayman Hodhod, standing atop snow-covered security barriers. "America should get on the right side of history and stop giving financial aid ...

A Lancaster, Pa., high school is under fire for implementing a new program that has created separate homerooms for black juniors. In December, McCaskey East High School assigned its 275 eleventh-graders to 19 homerooms led by teacher-mentors. The black students were separated by gender and placed in three homerooms led by black teachers. The other students were similarly assigned to teachers with whom they'd had a prior relationship. All students were allowed to choose a different mentor or to opt out of the program altogether. "We saw the need for mentoring of all our students," McCaskey East Principal Bill Jimenez told AOL News. But news of the program has caused concern ...

One of the primary narratives of the Democrats and the media during the entire tenure of the George W. Bush's term was that the United States was held in historically low regard throughout the rest of the world. This became, after "Bush lied," the second-most frequently repeated talking point. Whether there was any basis for this claim was immaterial; it was a handy cudgel for defeating and humiliating the president. For the past twenty-five-plus years, I have been involved in the international marketplace, having dealt in countries as varied as the United Kingdom, China, and Ghana. Never in that period of time, from Ronald Reagan to Barack Obama, have I found it more ...
Human Caused Global Warming Next Myth To Fall Post Date: 2011-01-28 15:30:22 by no gnu taxes

The two most obvious examples of overreach by the left have been the government take over of the US Health Care system and the cries of gloom and doom from Al Gore and the IPCC from AGW. Sadly, the former issue has a lot process and economic theory behind it, and it wont be until people start to feel the pinch of government rationing (a.k.a. death panels) that we see a lot of clear movement in opposition. But the myth of Anthropogenic Global Warming (a.k.a. human caused global warming) is an easy myth to bust. First off, there has been no warming for over a decade, and we are clearly in a long term cooling pattern. The only warming is found in data adjusted to ...
Warming North Atlantic water tied to heating Arctic, according to new study Post Date: 2011-01-28 15:02:44 by go65

The temperatures of North Atlantic Ocean water flowing north into the Arctic Ocean adjacent to Greenland -- the warmest water in at least 2,000 years -- are likely related to the amplification of global warming in the Arctic, says a new international study involving the University of Colorado Boulder. Led by Robert Spielhagen of the Academy of Sciences, Humanities and Literature in Mainz, Germany, the study showed that water from the Fram Strait that runs between Greenland and Svalbard -- an archipelago constituting the northernmost part of Norway -- has warmed roughly 3.5 degrees Fahrenheit in the past century. The Fram Strait water temperatures today are about 2.5 degrees F warmer than ...
Global Warming: Extreme Climate or Extreme Bullshit Politics? Post Date: 2011-01-28 14:29:50 by no gnu taxes

Early in her ABC World News program on January 21, 2011, Diane Sawyer claimed ABC had consulted "ten scientists" who opined that the "weather extremes" (e.g., a spate of colder, snowier winters in the Northern Hemisphere) were evidence for "global warming" (code phrase for "human-caused-global-warming-from-burning-fossil-fuels"). Evidently, ABC's "scientists" are poorly-informed about natural climate variability and the climate record that shows warming climate brings a reduction in extremes. Early in her ABC World News program on January 21, 2011, Diane Sawyer claimed ABC had consulted "ten scientists" who opined that the ...
The House GOP's Plan to Redefine Rape Post Date: 2011-01-28 14:05:55 by go65

Rape is only really rape if it involves force. So says the new House Republican majority as it now moves to change abortion law. For years, federal laws restricting the use of government funds to pay for abortions have included exemptions for pregnancies resulting from rape or incest. (Another exemption covers pregnancies that could endanger the life of the woman.) But the "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act," a bill with 173 mostly Republican co-sponsors that House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has dubbed a top priority in the new Congress, contains a provision that would rewrite the rules to limit drastically the definition of rape and incest in these cases. With this ...

It is time for an independent investigation of whether or to what degree human activities are creating catastrophic global warming. It should be conducted by scientists untainted by advocacy and uncompromised through receiving taxes or private funding to advance or debunk the theory. Many in the new Congress were elected on promises to re-evaluate global warming claims used to justify Draconian regulations. A team of nongovernment and non-U.N. experts must be established with access to all the raw data, records, adjustments, fudges
and computer codes currently being black-boxed by government scientists, says Robert Ferguson, president of the nonprofit Science and ...

One of the least credible tales to come out of President Obamas recent ideological makeover is the story that he is modeling his presidency on Ronald Reagans. Time Magazine asserted this week that there is no mistaking Obamas increasing reliance on [Mr. Reagans] career as a helpful template for his own. Just to keep this preposterous public relations ploy in perspective, we have compiled a handy list to remind people how little these two men have in common: Reagan: Fostered national pride in the military. Obama: Fostered gay pride in the military. Reagan: We begin bombing in five minutes. Obama: We begin golfing in five minutes. Reagan: Made ...

What happens when the predictions of mountebanks (my favorite word lately) dont come true, and the opposite happens? People stop believing. Thats whats happening now in Great Britain. The Telegraph online reports today on how the number of sceptic Britons has doubled in the last 4 years. Obviously they dont believe the junk science that insists global warming leads to more extreme cold and snow. Sorry, but many people arent that stupid to buy it. So take that crap alarmist science and use it for the next time you have to go. This new scepticism in Britain is based on real-life observation, with people comparing the horoscopes of snowless winters heard ...

Its the 2004-2005 hurricanes all over again. Remember the dire warnings after Katrina that the U.S. was in for more more and bigger hurricanes? We are repeating that news theme with the ongoing winter storms in the East. I have written many times about the fact that the scientists who believe in global warming tend to be the ones who have not studied meteorology or related sciences. We had another of these interviews on NBC's "Today" show. Dr. Michio Kaku's educational qualifications (according to Wikipedia) are as follows: Kaku graduated summa cum laude from Harvard University with a B.S. degree in 1968 and was first in his physics class. He attended the Berkeley ...

Just one day after President Obama talked about winning the future, a report from the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program finds that Obamas failed policies have put the nation even more at risk of future financial bailouts. But the serious nature of the economic and financial crisisand the failure of Obamas Big Government programs to solve itcontinues to be played down by the major media. The Office of the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) issued a report finding that TARPs main goals of increasing lending and promoting jobs and economic growth have been largely ...

WASHINGTON The U.S. economy gathered speed in the fourth quarter, though a touch below expectations, with the biggest gain in consumer spending in more than four years and strong exports offering the clearest signals yet that a sustainable recovery is under way. Even with growth quickening, however, progress reducing unemployment has been painfully slow, and the report on U.S. gross domestic product on Friday is little comfort for millions of unemployed Americans or the Federal Reserve officials on a jobs-creation vigil. The economy grew at a solid 3.2 percent annual rate in the final three months of 2010, the Commerce Department said, after expanding at a 2.6 percent pace in the ...

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the loss of NASA's Challenger space shuttle. Just 73 seconds after the launch on Jan. 28, 1986, a booster engine failed and caused the shuttle Challenger to break apart, taking the lives of all seven crew members. The spacecraft broke apart over the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of central Florida at 11:38 am EST. "On this Day of Remembrance, as we honor our fallen heroes with tributes and public ceremonies, I will take part in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. Across the country, flags at NASA Headquarters and the NASA centers will be flown at half-mast in memory of our colleagues lost in the cause of ...

Following the arrest of five people in Britain in connection with the "Operation Payback" cyber-attacks in support of WikiLeaks, the FBI announced mass raids across the United States in connection with the case. "FBI agents today executed more than 40 search warrants throughout the United States as part of an ongoing investigation into recent coordinated cyber attacks against major companies and organizations," a bureau press release states. Though the bureau did not say if any individuals were arrested during the raids, it did confirm a link between the US raids and the arrests in Britain. The bureau said suspects, if charged, could face up to 10 years in prison. The ...

The Affordable Care Act is designed to provide Americans with affordable, high-quality coverage options while ensuring that those who like their current coverage can keep it. Unfortunately, today, limited benefit plans, or mini-med plans are often the only type of insurance offered to some workers. In 2014, the Affordable Care Act will end mini-med plans when Americans will have better access to affordable, comprehensive health insurance plans that cannot use high deductibles or annual limits to limit benefits. In the meantime, the law requires insurers to phase out the use of annual dollar limits on benefits. In 2011, most plans can impose an annual limit of no less than ...
